moogs1000 · 28/03/2012 22:02

Hi all. Been following the threads since they started but only just making my first post! Congratulations to all with positive news so far and thinking about all who are experiencing problems or with extra worries.
I'm 15 weeks with 2nd baby and like many of u don't feel that pregnant anymore, just look fatter but not bump just wobble!
Do u all have 16 week appointments? I had 12 wk scan but n
ot got another appointment til 20 week scan. did ask about it but apparently I don't have one? also anyone had a csection before? I'm not sure about vbac or an elective one, keep reading info on it but anyone had any experiences of vbac? thanks

leelteloo · 29/03/2012 07:26

Himoogs1000, I couldn't post on here either till after 12 weeks, couldn't cope with leaving early again. Welcome Smile

rightontime · 29/03/2012 08:05

Hi Moogs I had a csection with DS1 and a VBAC with DS2 so may be able to help. Whether you decide for a VBAC or not will depend on your reasons for a CS in the first place. I got to 10cm dilated but by that time DS1 was in foetal distress and he was back to back so labour would have been a little while longer through the pushing stage. It was decided that CS was best. For that reason it was thought that a VBAC with DS2 would be a good idea as there was no reason the same would happen again.

VBAC was quick and easy in comparison and was definitely the right choice for me. Let me know if I can help any more.

gingertessa · 29/03/2012 08:22

I'm 16+5 and yesterday met the MW. All is fine but when I asked if she would listen to the baby's heartbeat with the Doppler she said they don't do that at this stage! I was really disappointed, as it would have given me a bit of reassurance. I'm not really showing although it is my first baby, i havent felt any movements and so I just have to hope everything is ok in there :( has anyone else been told they won't listen for a heartbeat at 16weeks? Roll on 25 April and my 20 week scan

Rusulka · 29/03/2012 10:09

17+4 today and still heard nothing about my 20 week scan.
Considering the hospital think I'm actually 18+4 I think that's a bit appalling, although they did say it would be at 20-22 weeks. Still that means a minimum wait of 1.5 weeks and a max of 4.5, so surely they should have got their act in gear by now? Grr!

Rusulka as FirstTime said I think you have to ring and make the 20 week appointment yourself. They don't automatically book you in for it. That's certainly the case at my hospital. I would give them a ring asap as I tried to change my 20 week scan yesterday due to a family thing we had forgotten about and they didn't have any other appointments near that time and said it would be at least a few weeks later. I'm 17+2 and scan is mid April.

Rusulka · 29/03/2012 13:23

FirstTime and Ellie I asked at my 16 week consultant appt and they said a letter would be in the post. Saying that, I might just give the antenatal clinic a ring and double check...

Rusulka · 29/03/2012 13:35

Hmm. Good job I did. Turns out they hadn't put a form in for me, so if I hadn't chased it up, I wouldn't have got a scan. Tut! Been actioned now, so hopefully appt will come through soon.
How annoying!!! Thanks ladies.

MissCoffeeNWine · 29/03/2012 13:44

Hello everyone. Glad to hear so much heartbeat news. I have my big appointment next week, the one I'm nervous about, should be a scan and a heartbeat and an overall assessment of whether this one looks healthy and likely to make it to term. Very scarey. But glad I'm being seen and assessed at the 17 weeks mark, getting past that with a heartbeat would be a good milestone for me.

I'm definitely showing now which is an all-new experience for me so early. I can do up my jeans but ouch it's not comfy. Being on an exercise ban is not helping I suppose. I have gotten out the more flowy section of the wardrobe after trying to sit through a concert last night with my jeans digging in horribley round my middle...oww. I really hate showing, anyone else not like it?

lurkingmurking · 29/03/2012 15:19

I have everything crossed for your MissCoffee

Can you get some of those bands you put round your buttons to make your jeans a bit looser?

ballroomblitz · 29/03/2012 16:11

Seems to be a lot of congratulations and good news about. Keeping my fingers crossed too for everyone coming up to anxious times.

Hi moogs I'm also 15 wks with my 2nd and have to decide between vbac or elcs. I'm usually one for loving to research health/biology things (I study a related subject) but just can't seem to get the energy to do it yet.

I'm most definately showing and have been for weeks. I had to clear most of my clothes out to store in the attic. Trousers that had fitted me two weeks previous, I could no longer get over my thighs. Tops that I had for ds which were flowy and loose round the stomach and fitted me to term I can see I'm going to be lucky to get another two months out of them. Put on 16lbs already which is shocking for me.

I don't particularly like it myself Misscoffee. My df put a photo he'd taken of me where you could plainly see the bump on fb and I could have killed him. I don't know why it just looks and feels odd to me and I get a bit embarrassed when people mention it.

moogs1000 · 29/03/2012 22:19

Thanks for the welcome. rightontime would appreciate any input really. I had csection as dd was breech and very small with little fluid. Sure I'm going to be bigger this time as am much bigger than last time so far. Just worry with vbac that if there's any problem and end up with csection I'd just wish I'd had one in first place. My recovery was ok last time but didn't have a 3yr old then! ballroomblitz we can mull it over for next few months together. I hate decisions! LOL

ballroomblitz · 30/03/2012 09:10

Funny rightontime mine didn't even mention basing the decision on the chances of it happening again, just talked about the chances of rupture. They are probably saving the basing the decision on previous experience and it happening again talk for later on if I decide to go with csection. I'm a bit like you moogs in that ds was very small with IUGR and while I hope that my size this time shows otherwise against it happening, I know it's too early to tell.

pgreen · 30/03/2012 13:12

Random question.....

I have an achey (very achey) bump (well where a bump would be) just down low by my pubic bone. Is this just "growing pains"? No need to worry about anything else? Thought I'd felt peanut move last night....

Iph · 30/03/2012 16:21

pgreen I had mega achiness between about 15-16 weeks. Mentioned it at my 16 week midwife appointment and she said it was quite common to feel that around then and that I might notice a 'growth spurt'. Sure enough I've gone from general extra fatness to bump-town since then so that makes sense. As always though if you're worried, contact your midwife.

Still thinking of Methe and hoping for the best.
bump4 Any news from your appointment? Fingers crossed for you.

rightontime glad you found the heartbeat, i think that, used sensibly, Dopplars are great for reassurance during this bit of pregnancy before you're feeling regular movements. I never used one before but have borrowed one from work a couple of times this pregnancy.

misscoffee good luck or your appointment this week, hope you are smoothly past this next milestone soon.

pgreen · 30/03/2012 16:58

thanks IPH I'm 17 weeks and really not showing, although I know I'm really thick through the waist. Just put on my yoga kit and actually it might be the start of a bump.

I don't know if anyone else is considering pregnancy yoga but I started last week. I really enjoyed it especially the really long down at the end under a blanket!

pgreen · 30/03/2012 17:16

lie down even

Bakeroo · 30/03/2012 17:25

I really want to start pregnancy yoga pgreen i'm just struggling to find one that starts late enough after work to get to but not so late that I'm starving hungry and tired!
I've just got back from the doctors, got an appointment as was a bit worried I had a urine infection. Have been having some funny gripey pains when I finish weeing(sorry if tmi) and the feeling like something is pressing on my empty bladder once I've been( baby?!) my wee has also smelt a bit funny and has been a bit cloudy. Anyway doctor dip tested my wee and no infection! So all good ( he said I'd done the right thing by checking) but he's going to send some more wee off to the hospital on Monday to check more thoroughly. Has anyone else had these kind of symptoms? He said it may just be a normal pregnancy thing....Confused
Apart from this I am desperate to feel the baby move, am 18 weeks tomorrow and everyone keeps asking me if I've felt it. I hate to say no as want to feel it so much, just not sure I have yet? Grrrrrrrrrr. Anyone else?

rightontime · 30/03/2012 17:26

Moogs The decision for me was an easy one really because I knew I wanted 3 or more children and they get a bit funny once you have 3 CS's with you getting pregnant again. That meant for me VBAC was the simplest option. Also the thought of having a needle in my spine for a spinal block is just awful to me. I hope I never have to have one EVER! And finally I hate the stay in hospital which is a minimum of 3 days if you have a CS. I had to stay in for 24hours with DS2 for other reasons but for me the hope of a short a stay as possible was and is enough for me to try a VBAC.

WRT to your specific experience I don't know much about breech or low fluid volumes etc. Spinning babies website is very good if you do have problems this time with a breech baby and do want a VBAC. No advice re the fluid though, sorry. If you are worried about needing another emergency CS then why not ask if they could tell you early on in labour if they have any concerns so that if doesn't end up being a last minute panic if you do need a CS. You would probably be more likely to end up with one if you say this but it might be a nicer experience.

The choice is such a personal one and I know I made the absolute right choice for me. I also know people who had horrific labours that ended in CS and who have elected for another CS with their 2nd because they could face labour again after the first time. They made the right choice for them. I also know people who tried for VBAC and failed. Some of them are happy they tried and others were only more disappointed that they still didn't get the birth they hoped for. You have loads of time to decide but just don't let anyone push you into a decision you are not happy with.

Pgreen sounds like growing pains to me. Agree with Iph though, ask your MW if you are worried as it is impossible to tell the whole story on the internet.

Thanks Iph I do intend to be sensible about it. Because I have nothing to base my worries on except previous experience it seems silly to go to MW. I am not feeling reduced movement because I can barely feel movement yet anyway and everything else is the same otherwise so is definitely a good thing for me.

Rusulka · 30/03/2012 22:32

Bakeroo I've felt bugger all, and am 18 weeks on Sunday.
Got my MiL staying with us at the mo, so she asks me EVERY DAMN DAY if I've felt Peanut move, and of course I haven't. (placenta at front).

Also, was busting for a pee earlier and managed to make it, but once I'd finished I had an ongoing kind of strainy feel of needing to keep squeezing, which was uncomfortable, and felt like there was a pressure. I'm assuming it's the baby. I've been drinking a lot of water recently due to the hot weather, so don't think it's an infection, but keep an eye on it.

Bakeroo · 30/03/2012 22:40

Rusulka thanks for your reassurance! Glad to know you've had some funny post wee feelings too, maybe it's all just the norm. Hope so.
Funny that your MIL keeps asking too! Isn't it funny that we feel annoyed by it?! Fingers crossed it won't be long although I bumped in to someone today who asked and then said she didn't feel anything with her first until 21 weeks! Hope it's not that long but good to know.
