Too Grin at surprising the mw!! Bet your DH has never got out of bed so fast Grin. I think my sleeping position is helping a little, thank goodness!

Jaggy ditto on the BH, never noticed them first time round. Definitely had them this time. In fact I'd had a few days with none and then I had what I thought was one, and I was just wondering if it was normal for them to die off a bit. That was when my waters broke and I realised that actually it was a real contraction!

Wants3 · 17/03/2012 19:23

Curry consumed! A quick wash up and then we are watching a film.
too thanks for the heads up on early morning midwives, we also live in a bungalow and our bedroom window is next to the front door!
I have been itching to do something baby preparation related today but resisted otherwise I won't have anything to do in the weeks that I am not working! I am planning to buy things for my/baby's hospital bags in the 2nd week of the Easter hols (35 weeks)and maybe start the rinse cycles on the nappies as I need to do at least 6 before using them. I will be preparing the crib once my maternity leave starts I think!
biscuits did your waters break spontaneously with ds1 aswell? I had mine broken both times so can't imagine what my reaction will be if they suddenly 'go' this time!

Biscuitsandtea · 17/03/2012 19:54

Glad you're having a lovely evening Wants Smile

Yes, my waters went spontaneously both times. With ds1 I was sorting out some paperwork to go up in the loft, bent forward to put some stuff on the floor and thought 'oh...' Shock and then it was like a sort of consistent leaking every time I moved. But it was just like needing a wee (without being able to stop it Blush)

With DS2 I just went to the loo and it was like the waters were forced out - this time I was stuck on the loo though as loads came out every time I moved at all. I was stuck there until DH came home to rescue me with clean clothes! Blush

It was my biggest fear too with ds1 that my waters would break - i think I was dreading being out somewhere and them going BlushBlush. Oddly I was chatting to a pg friend just before she was due and it was her fear too, but she went into labour with hers going too (all over her bedroom carpet I believe Confused)

But maybe if you've needed them breaking before, then that's how you'll be this time? Perhaps my membrane thing that keeps the waters in the place, like the rest of my undercarriage, is just made of wet tissue paper? HmmConfused

DreamingOfPeace · 17/03/2012 20:49

crap biscuits, does that mean mine is too?! I had the hindwater break, little bits leaking type of waters breaking first time- woke up %:30am thinking 'sh*t! I wet myself' went to loo, walking back to bedroom, felt another gush and knew it wasn't wee...

DreamingOfPeace · 17/03/2012 20:50

%:30 is an unusual time....5:30am... Blush

Biscuitsandtea · 17/03/2012 21:07

Aww of course not Dream Smile

You've kept 2 babies in there so must have an undercarriage of (flexible and expandable) steel Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 17/03/2012 21:30

I mean you've had 2 in there at the same time obviously, I've not forgotten that you'll have a tally of three in a few weeks Grin

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 18/03/2012 10:54

May I ask a random q a bit out of the blue please? I really to know what contractions, and also BHs, feel like?

Several nights this week I've had really acute back pain, a much more intense and localised pain than the usual ache I have every day. (My SPD and sciatica mainly cause pain in my hips and left leg, so it's unusual for me to have this kind of back pain.) I also have period type pain in my lower uterus at the same time. That's quite intense as well, a constant ache, which makes my uterus feel tight and sore. Despite all this I don't have any contractions as far as I can tell. I've tried keeping my hand on my stomach to see if I can feel some externally even if I can't feel any "tightening" internally, but there's nothing. The two pains are intense but constant, no ebb and flow. The pain lasts most of the night in each case, and I finally get to sleep around 5.

Now BHs shouldn't hurt right? Also, if there were contractions I should be able to feel my whole bump get harder for a short period right? It's just so difficult to tell because my bump is hard all the time. Especially when I'm in pain, it makes me tense up all over and stay tense.

Last night the back pain in particular was worse than previously and I was seriously wondering if I should go into hospital for monitoring to see if there are contractions going on that I can't feel. (I'm only 34 weeks so it wouldn't be a great time to go into labour! Although not the end of the world either.) The baby is still moving around normally tho, so I decided to wait until morning and once again the pain has gone.

I apologise for the essay, and for being so me-centric Blush I'm just pretty worried now and I really want to know if anyone has ever had anything like this before? Would anyone describe their BHs like this? Or does it sound like I could be having contractions and not know it? I'm not sure what to do! :(

I'm glad Wants and DS1 had a good eve! I hope all poorly No Brookers (and healing No Brookers) are feeling better this morning. Did the new (again) Mamas get any sleep last night?

Wants3 · 18/03/2012 11:09

My bhs can be abit uncomfortable at times but not painful and only around the tight bump! Contractions can sometimes be felt in the back but as the pain is constant and only at night could it be sleeping position? I am getting a painful hip at night because I am putting most of my weight on it to get my bump comfortable. As with all things pregnancy related, it's your body and you know if something isn't quite 'right' so get it checked out to put your mind at rest! ( my friends son was born at 34 weeks and apart from being small was fine, just needed a few days in scbu for monitoring )

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 18/03/2012 11:21

Thanks Wants. Due to the SPD I spend most of my day lying down on my side the same way I do at night, I can't sit upright for long stretches without hip pain. So the night time thing is odd partly because I'm in the same position as during the day!

It all just seems so odd. If it ever happened in the day I'd just call the hospital to double check. However calling the hospital at 2 am when I can't feel any contractions and my waters haven't gone seems really silly. Esp with the baby still moving fine.

I just wondered if this could be normal pg aches and pains that I'm blowing out of proportion?

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 18/03/2012 11:24

p.s. Without jinxing myself I'm not too worried about a baby born at 34 weeks. All my Nan's kids were born at least that early (over 40 years ago) and none of my Aunts or Uncles have any probs. Myself and my siblings are all 36 week babies and again no problems. For me 32 weeks was the big threshold. Now it's just finishhing touches I think.

musicalmrs · 18/03/2012 12:12

Scream, I obviously have no experience of contractions (like you!), but for me the BHs result in a very tight bump, sometimes just the lower half but mostly all over. I notice them more when I'm stationary, when they're quite uncomfortable. They tend to happen a lot when I'm walking (too fast, normally - or when going up stairs!), but they're not normally quite so uncomfortable - though I find them more concerning as they can happen quite frequently.

I've also been getting the period pain in my lower uterus recently, so would welcome anyone's suggestions as to what that could be! I also get it in what feels like the top of my legs, which is the same as when I have full on period pain... most odd. Have been having hip/top of leg/lower back sciatic pain for the last week or so too, especially when sitting - but with my back condition that's to be expected I suppose. I'm lucky it's not affected me much during pregnancy up until now.

Anywaay, enough of ranting about me.. if I were you Scream, and were worrying about it, I'd definitely try and call the hospital and be monitored, although I realise that's physically painful for you. It would put your mind at rest though, at least.

32 weeks today! Just started on the RLT, and actually quite like it thankfully! Won't necessarily be able to manage two cups a day during my mad couple of weeks left at work, but I'll try my best - trying the philosophy that some is better than none..!

jenfraggle · 18/03/2012 12:25

Scream I don't really know what to suggest other than talking to your IMW about it.

Musical I've been getting the same period pain as you for the last couple of days and my right leg has been aching badly. I've put it down to hormones as before I was pg I could tell when I was due on as my leg would ache for a couple of days beforehand. It went away when I went on the pill but when the Dr changed me to Cilest I'm sure only because it was cheap it started again. When I told him I was having a bad reaction to it he took me off completely, I only wanted to change to a different one :(

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 18/03/2012 12:30

Thanks guys! So long as the period pain is normal then I'm just going to assume the back pain is a hormonal side effect. I used to get back pain during the first couple of days of my period pre-pg. I really can't feel anything remotely contraction-like so for now I won't call anyone. I'll be speaking to my imw this week anyway, and I don't want to bug her on Mother's day for something that can wait.

DreamingOfPeace · 18/03/2012 14:29

Hi, just to say my bh are very tight, hard, 'squared-off' looking bump, now accompanied by low uterus period pain, quite uncomfortable. Also get some pain in inner thighs ?? . I can literally have 3 in 10 min, but then ease off again. Def bh though. It's uniform tightness too iykwim. So my bump is very hard anyway, but changes shape a little as uterus contracts, babies quiet down, sore, then gone after 30-45 sec. I'd speak to your imw soon as you say scream .

Put new bump pics up :-)

jaggythistle · 18/03/2012 14:46

Yep, my pain goes down my thighs too. Not been too bad today, felt a bit queasy and crap last night, but that's because I squeezed in pudding while out with the in-laws against my better judgement. Blush It was just a wee pannacotta.... Have learned my lesson now - do not keep shoving the food in or I will regret it!

Baby often wriggles a lot after BHs.

Might get some wriggles now as DH was playing with the espresso machine cos we had some new beans so have had a cheeky wee cup. I practically never drink tea or coffee but love a wee espresso.

jaggythistle · 18/03/2012 14:47
jaggythistle · 18/03/2012 14:56

ok, I have given in. am going to upload a wee huge fat bump pic and maybe a cheeky wee DS one too. will prob chicken out and remove them in a bit as I am super paranoid about outing myself. Have even cropped my head off!

jaggythistle · 18/03/2012 15:16

that's an impressive bump dream! :)

jenfraggle · 18/03/2012 15:42

Looking good Dream and Jaggy

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 18/03/2012 16:08

That is an impressive bump Dream!! I'm awestruck!!! Also an excellent pic from Jaggy, your DS is so cute!

I'm so glad I asked you all about the period pains before ringing anyone! It's very reassuring to know everyone gets them! I don't think I've had any BHs yet, but those might be along soon. I've ordered an electric hot water bottle (who knew those even existed!?!) and I'm hoping that will control the back pain enough for me to get a little more sleep. I just need to make it through to the 36 week appointment and then I'll have my cs on the record!! (Also need my fibroids to be out of the way - shift damn you!)

OP posts:
jaggythistle · 18/03/2012 16:11

right come on scream's fibroids, shift to some convenient to cs location immediately. there's a lot of brooking going on...

Oh too, I was trying to post a rant yesterday about crap advice about bf- I was told they can feed for 30-40 min each side if they want when DD was tiny and FFS, she's put on 70g in 3 days, you're clearly doing it perfectly well!!!!!!!! Sleepy after 20 minutes- yes, and?! she's not even reached when she'd be 40 weeks, gah!!!! What a shame she's still a bit jaundiced and they freaked you out so much. My friend's little girl was very jaundiced for ages but it just cleared up itself. I hope her levels are decreasing nicely on mon or tues and it just starts going now. In fact, I will Brook No Argument about it. I find it highly irritating how worried health professionals seem to keep mothers. The best hv I ever saw said her daughter seemed happy and healthy to her but never put sufficient weight on so she stopped weighing her. She advised we immediately do the same (mid faff over DD dropping more than 2 centiles) and avoid all hv's etc so we did and relief all round! Never had her weighed since, bar at her 8 month check Smile

lovely bump jaggy and your ds is gorgeous!! How sweet. I'm getting excited about boys now Grin. I forgot I coul crop and crop head off- oh well. Nothing I post is secret, most is whinging or mediocre nonsense so hey ho Smile

Drains disaster here. As in back flowing loo roll and poo etc etc all over the path behind kitchen and patio area. Disgusting. Drains man been after dh admitted defeat. He also can't fix it- sending in some more heavy duty people tomorrow. Not to use any water til then, or bare minimum- no dishwasher, washing machine, showers etc. Gutted. Manky sh*t, literally outside, and can't wash self/clothes. The trousers Im wearing are all I wear, only thing comfy, outgrown everything else bar one pair of leggings in bigger size but they make my bump itch...and they're filthy. Thats me looking liek a tramp again tomorrow

Loads of period pain type pain this afternoon scream Smile

Hope everyone else having a lovely mother's day Grin

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 18/03/2012 18:21

I know Dream - it's one thing after another! Yesterday the MW said that jaundice can cause brain damage, and today my sister told me that according the NHS website, this occurs in less than 1 in 100,000 babies. I wish MWs would give you a bit of context before scaring the living daylights out of you! Right, I'd better go wake Bean up again. My nipples are all tender and slightly scabby.
