I am having issues with my stitches which are very ouchie Sad. Will bore you with the details later when I have time but just to say Ouch!!! Sad

NinjaChipmunk · 14/03/2012 11:01

good luck to popcorn, farfalla and fishcake for todays appointments. Let us know how they go.
how are you?

biscuits thats sounds painful, can you put anything like tea tree oil in the bath to help with healing? If you have a mw/ hv coming round could you get them to have a look and make sure nothing untoward is going on?

NinjaChipmunk · 14/03/2012 11:04

I wonder how much mortgage we can get if we sell our place...I've just seen a nice house nearish to us which could work quite well and give a bit of a long term project but it's £50K over what we would sell our place for and £75K more than our current mortgage. Since we were first time buyers last time (and I was very pg so dp sorted it all) I'm not really sure how it all works...

jaggythistle · 14/03/2012 11:11

here y'go. I didn't do proper expressing, just hand expressed squirted a wee bit onto a muslin or something to try and slow it down. He did grow out of it. :)

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 14/03/2012 11:36

Biscuits, Maia doesn't quite feed to sleep most of the time. She feeds, gets very sleepy but then when you put her down she quite often opens her eyes and lies there peacefully looking at things and waving her hands about slowly. This is adorable during the day but at night I just want to know that she's safely asleep so I can sleep!

I didn't get the crying thing resolved at the time because after crying for 25 minutes and bobbing on and off the boob, she suddenly fell asleep in my arms and I was so relieved I fell asleep too. Since then I've been shown latching twice more and I think that was the problem. Also, I was trying to do the thing, whatsit called, that Purple linked to recently - is it laid-back feeding? Where you lie back and the baby lies on top of you and finds the nipple herself. It did seem to work at first and it was good because I couldn't sit up too straight, but then she started to fuss more and more and a MW said I wasn't getting enough nipple into her mouth, so she showed me how much I ought to be getting in. Another MW showed me how to feed lying down, and then the community MW showed me how to feed her sitting bolt upright with Maia on a pillow, and bringing her to the boob instead of trying to put the nipple in her mouth. I've been doing that for the last two days and it seems to be working well - she's feeding for longer stretches, between 45 mins and an hour, and then sleeping for good chunks. Last night she slept in 2.5 hour chunks, which was pretty good, I thought. What Pomme says about Abbie choking on the let-down sounds familiar too - yesterday Bean was bobbing on and off a fair bit, so DH took her and burped her and she calmed down again. I also did express a bit to take the pressure off last night before feeding.

I started writing this post at 9 o'clock this morning and then got distracted!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 14/03/2012 11:45

Ahem. What I meant to say there was "so I will post what I've written and then go back and read the new posts".

Ninja, poor you with the sickness! Hope the Brew and toast stays down.

Biscuits, that sounds dire with the stitches - is it feeling any better yet? Do you have painkillers for them?

Jaggy, that link is very useful, thank you. I tried hand-expressing and Mum looked at my milk production and said it's still a bit colostrumy (ie, yellow on top, like cream), so we think the milk's not fully through. The milk isn't coming out with force yet either, so perhaps this is all still to come. Confused

Good luck with today's appts, Farfalla, Fishcake and Popcorn!

PopcornMouseInBoots · 14/03/2012 11:51

I am now officially MW-approved! Hurrah! :o

Apparently the GP should have booked me a scan but seems to have forgotten, so she's sorting one out for me instead, to take place sometime over the next fortnight :)

NinjaChipmunk · 14/03/2012 11:52

brilliant news popcorn you are now officially in the system! I hope the scan comes through quickly. How far along are you now?

NinjaChipmunk · 14/03/2012 11:55

oh dear, what have i started? I should never have emailed the house I saw to dp, he now wants me to organize a valuation or two for ours. Eeek. It might be getting more real that we need to move. And I'm still in my pyjamas. Shock

fishcakefoxtrot · 14/03/2012 11:56

Hello appointment went ok-ish. Growth nicely following curve and placenta flow all good, so big tick for the baby.

However my first bp reading was 157/100- truly awful! Now, my mum had just phoned to ask a ques about the dog but I immediately assumed something had happened to dd (I wasnt joking about my
Mum's bp raising powers!) and I was anxious because it was at the 35 week appointment that things started to go wrong before. So anyway I got sent up to daycare for bp monitoring and after a peaceful 45 mins with my book everything was looking v good. Am back to hospital next week now, which is fine. Just didn't want to get kept in today.

Thanks for the brooking, I think I just need to practise it on myself a bit more!

Looking forward to hearing how all the other appointments go and dream, are you up tomorrow?

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 14/03/2012 12:27

Hooray for Popcorn being fully mw-endorsed! Glad she's sorting out the all-important scan for you as well! The 12 week scan is the first time the baby starts to look baby-like! (Still a bit of a prawn-baby Hmm More recognisable though!)

Also great news about miniFishcake! Good work with the baby-baking Fishcake! Sorry to hear about the scary bp reading, but I'm glad it went away immediately. There are certain members of my family that would definitely generate interesting bp readings if I was ever hooked up to a monitor whilst speaking to them!!

No Brooking for Farfalla's scan!! We want a perfect healthy sac and maybe even an early heartbeat, and we will brook no argument!!

Oooo Ninja exciting house developments!! Keep us posted!!

Too you sound like a pro, working through all your options to get bfing just right. Nice work! Your description of Maia settling herself to sleep is so cute!

Biscuits sorry to hear about the sore stitches. We're having none of this though, there will now be serious No Brooking coming your way, and I fully expect all sore bits to have surrendered and disappeared within 24 hours! In the meantime though, poor you! Try to take it easy

OP posts:
PopcornMouseInBoots · 14/03/2012 12:31

I'm 10+2 ninja :)

Glad things went well (in the end, anyway!) fishcake :)

Far said in conception her scan's at 3.30 I think

Biscuitsandtea · 14/03/2012 13:23

Yay for being mw endorsed Popcorn - hope that scan appt comes through soon.

Fishcake good job on the baby baking - and glad your BP settled down for you.

Ninja - sound exciting re the house!

Too you really sound as though you're getting the hang of the feeding thing.

Ethan has been a bit funny with feeding today - doesn't seem to be waking for feeds and I'm struggling to get him to have anything even if I can get him to wake up. Will see how he goes for the rest of the day but might ring the MWs tomorrow if it's still all over the place. It's like he can't be bothered to latch on, even though I know he can do it and even if it's been like 4+ hours from his last feed. Confused

So, my stitches. I've actually been to the doctors about it this morning because it was so sore down there yet the MWs kept saying the stitches were healing fine so I though it must be something else. Well apparently they aren't healing properly. The stitches are starting to dissolve but the two edges haven't actually joined back together so it's bloody sore and I have to wait for the two raw edges to heal separately. It's too late to re-stitch it because they aren't 'raw edges' any more so wouldn't join up properly. SadSad I have to have antibiotics for it and just it will take another couple of weeks (ouch ouch ouch) to heal.

I feel quite SadSad about it because this was kind of what I feared happening with a second vb. the doctor says it does look like I tore down the same place but I do feel a bit down about it all. I mean I don't think I could have had a CS anyway because by the time the in-laws had got here for DS and we'd got to the hospital I think I was too far along. Sad

And Scream you mentioned DH and being busy - bless him heMs been trying really hard to help but still get bits of work done and nip off to meetings when ds1 is otherwise entertained at nursery or preschool, but this afternoon will be my big test. He was hoping to just nip out while ds1 was at preschool and be back in a couple of hours but things have gone a bit sideways do I will have my first go with both of them after preschool Confused

I shall still find a bit of time to do some serious brooking for Far's scan this afternoon though Smile

NinjaChipmunk · 14/03/2012 13:27

ooh, got a valuation booked on friday morning! excited!

DreamingOfPeace · 14/03/2012 14:30

Oh biscuits, you poor poor thing... This being my biggest fear my heart goes out to you. Sad . I'm sure it will heal fine, but I would get myself referred to the womens health physio and get an assessment etc when healed to help myself be confident I'd done all I can to guard against any future problems iykwim? The mw's kept saying my stitches looked 'great' too, and seemed surprised I was still on lots of painkillers 15 days post-op Hmm. I never quite trust them... Rest up my lovey, and do as little walking as possible! I think you're right, you'd have had to go in sure ELCS was what you wanted saying decisively 'Section me NOW!' to get one in time- I know there's loads of posts on here about people getting to 9cm, or even 10cm (like loopy) and being sectioned, but I know they'll have had an emegency like baby getting distressed, stuck, or the old 'failing to progress' from there. So not like you... ANyway , hope it heals fast, and the antibiotics help.

ninja, ditto, grim being ill like that and so much worse when tired and pg already. I think it's exciting about the valuations Smile Just go for it, and stress about the moving when you sell your place.

too, fab to hear of your great recovery!! DD when titchy tiny did once even sleep 5 hours in the day- not at night though!! I did start waking her every 3 hours though, and then went down to every 2, but we never got longer than 2 hours sleep at night and longer stretches in day- all topsy turvy, so I was trying to fill her up in day time an get the whole day/night thing sorted out.

hooray fishcake, so glad the gorwth scan was good. I hope that was one mother-induced unusually high BP reading and it stays nice and normal at your appointment next week.

My scan is indeed tomorrow. When it will be fine. Twin 2 will be a whopper with no blood flow issues on the scan. Fact

and biscuits I always fed DD to sleep.... til 9 months, then she started falling asleep by herself quite naturally, despite me having been panicking about this rod I was making for my own back etc etc.

DreamingOfPeace · 14/03/2012 14:30

oooh, yes, hope scan is really positive far!!!

Biscuitsandtea · 14/03/2012 15:07

Yes Dream that's what they said about the ELCS for me. I would have to decide before I was in established labour as they wouldn't start one at say 5cm dilated. Obv they can do a CS at pretty much any stage, but for my reasons they wouldn't do one half way through labour - it would have to be something much more serious like baby distress etc. And I can understand that. I imagine getting the spinal in or cutting into the uterus during contractions must be more difficult so I do understand. I was just hoping so much to be proven wrong about further damage. I don't think I'm very good at giving birth! Sad

Biscuitsandtea · 14/03/2012 15:12

And good idea re the women's health physio - I think once I've got everything ok again and dh is no longer having to check the state of my undercarriage twice daily Blush it would be well worth a check up

DreamingOfPeace · 14/03/2012 15:20

you did a fabulous job biscuits*.!!! you've produced 2 gorgeous boys Smile. A lady I've just met at a toddler group is lending me a double electric breast pump to try and buy from her if we (me and the pump!) get on- she had a fourth degree tear with her second birth.....OUCH!!! And had to have further surgery 2 months on for poor healing, stitches not disolving etc. She said she couldn't sit properly for 4 months- with 3.5 yr old and bf baby- what a nightmare. Now thats not made to do it Wink
I'm happy with my ELCS decision now I've read about toos experience, and fishcakes friend. But crap, they did say to me just get in ASAP if you go into labour and want a CS, but I'm worried if I progress quickly- which apparently is more common for twins from the sheer weight on the cervix, esp with T1 head down (as he is) I'll be pushed into VB... (like the pun?!). And if you went into labour and baby was breech they'd section you- I do think it's a bit harsh, saying if you're in established labour its too late, and if you'd gone in positive it was what you wanted you might, might, just have got one. But then, if you'd had no tear, you'd be posting totally differently and I'd be umm-ing and ah-ing some more Wink. We need blinking crsytal balls, that work!! And I'm not always positive I want a CS, I waver, so to go in that sure you want one, in established labour, when you might have had not a graze- I can't see it happening any different either way really.... o don't regret it, or look back and think 'i wish'... hard as it is when you're tired, hormonal and sore. You'll heal (and squeeze!!!)

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 14/03/2012 15:37

Woe, Bean has lost slightly more than 10% of her birth-weight and we've to start feeding every 3 hours, waking her up with a wet sponge if necessary. Sad After discussion with the community MW, we think she wasn't latching properly last night when I was feeding in bed - it was getting so painful I had to squeeze DH's hand as she fed, although it was fine in the daytime on the sofa. The MW suggested getting up and doing all the feeds on the sofa to guard against that. She's just so little that a small loss is a big percentage of her weight. Still, the jaundice is better today, so that's good.

Oh, Biscuits, that sounds awful. Sad Brooking hard for you. I hope it stops hurting so much soon. Has E fed again yet? Hope he starts to be a bit hungrier soon and you can stop worrying.

Ninja, yay for the house valuation - exciting!

Dream, Twin 2 will be a whopper with no blood flow issues. Fact.

Popcorn, yay for being officially in the system!

Fishcake, hooray for good scan, although eek at the BP. Glad it's all ok now.

Right, I'm going for a nap because Bean has to be fed at 5 whether she likes it or not, so I want some sleep now.

Biscuitsandtea · 14/03/2012 16:37

Thanks Dream for your words of encouragement Smile. Ultimately I guess I am where I am now so wishing I'd done anything differently is completely pointless.

My energy is much better spent brooking that it all heals up, and then if there is anything else required dealing with that as and when.

Too don't you worry - Maia will get that weight back on. As you say, when they're small any weight loss is such a big percentage. How many oz did she lose? Anyway, if you can get the attachment etc nailed she'll pile that weight back on. Do you have Lansinoh? Make sure you're using it if attachment isn't always great. I've been struggling to get Ethan to latch on properly today and I can feel it already on one side - must be more firm about not letting him latch on poorly.

The mw has just been though because I rang them being paranoid about the feeding thing and she said his jaundice is so mild we could just go back to demand feeding so I'd only need to wake him if he's gone 5-6 hours without feeding iyswim. Hopefully that'll allow him to actually get hungry before feeding and latch on a bit better? Hope he doesn't leave it 6 hours though Confused

Still brooking hard for news from Farfalla

NinjaChipmunk · 14/03/2012 17:22

too as biscuits says please don't worry, hopefully after a short while of being on the case with regular sat up feedings, it'll all come good. I shall brook no argument for that.
I was also just checking to see if any news from farfalla

DreamingOfPeace · 14/03/2012 17:30

too, I was advised not to feed lying down at first as you can't check their latch so to make sure they're on, sit up initially. I just took my bf pillow up to bed and propped myself up well with pillows n bf cushion and fed like that. By 5-6 weeks old feeding lying down was easy so it'll come. Don't worry!!

No more time, just having 2 min to myself, super super cranky dd.... No idea why. Sent her round garden with daddy (also stressed at work n super cranky, great!!)
