Ohhhh Fliss laminated labels - I have label envy. I would love a laminating machine at the moment. I'm sorting lots of things into boxes and feel the need to label the boxes very clearly (generally so DH will put things back into the correct place).

I'm not quite at the point of labelling (my currently mythical) hospital bags, but I will be writing extensive lists of what is in which bag for DH and where additional supplies can be found at home if needed.

I'm also going with the 'talk about the baby as part of our daily interaction' strategy with DS and am also hoping it will be ok. Hopefully, having his normal pre-school routine continuing will help.

Bearcrumble · 28/02/2012 22:10

Whenskies Lovely to hear your news. Let us know how the 20 week scan goes.

I finally got my nesting urge today (33 and a bit weeks) - DH and I spent a couple of hours clearing out drawers and a big chest where we keep clothes/bedlinen. We got three big bags for the charity shop and three or four to be binned so there's now lots more room for the baby's stuff.

Found lots of DS's muslins and some unisex stuff that she'll be able to use. Unfortunately a lot of the white vests and sleepsuits have, despite washing, milk-sick stains round the neck as he was such a pukey baby. I'm going to have a go at bleaching them.

My mum had DS today and I was expecting them back about 5-ish but I'd just finished all the reorganising and sat down to watch last night's America's Next Top Model (highbrow, me) when they came home at 3.30 so I didn't get to have any rest. I am grateful of course that she took him out but I wanted to have a slump.

DS hasn't had chickenpox yet and was exposed last Tuesday so waiting to see if he has it - incubation period is 10-21 days. A bit irritating but it's better to get it out of the way before the baby comes.

marshmallowpies · 28/02/2012 23:13

WhenDoISleep - yes I saw those vests in Mothercare and they look good, but don't have the poppers at the bottom which is a bit odd...do they ride up if baby wriggles around or stay put?

Another weird thing I've noticed about wrap-around or side-opening vests is that quite a few manufacturers make them in 'tiny' size but not 'newborn' - guess the logic is that really small/prem babies need to be dressed even more carefully, which makes sense, but if they are easier to get on and off, why not make them for newborns too? Oh well...I'm obsessing about this a bit too much I think!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 29/02/2012 10:03

I wouldnt worry about wrap around vests, its not that hard getting a normal vest over a newborns head, at least they keep still (unlike a running away toddler!). Although my DS was incredibly forward, Wink lol stealth boast and could hold his head up at birth! Not sure how common this is, my mum said me and my sisters all did too though?

Been to see the doctor yesterday, got a load of prescriptions while I was there (cannestan for imaginary thrush that I'm sure will reappear before end of pregnancy btw, anusol even though I still have half a tube, hydrocortisone for my eczema and calpol for DS) and she also prescribed me some low dose citalopram for my AND. Been putting off going for a very long time as was told with DS there was nothing I could take, but DH made me go after another particularly rough few days. It seems to be making me feel a little weird, like I've had a drink or two, but we'll see how it is over the next few days :)

notso · 29/02/2012 10:14

Hello everyone, sounds like you have all been busy.

I am nesting like a crazed bird! DH said last night he is scared to sit down incase I declutter him. I'm pleased to get stuff done but it is really tiring, I just want to get as much done as possible as things keep playing on my mind.

Went for a trip with the school family group yesterday to the forest school, had great fun building dens and making a fire, DS2 loved crawling around in the mud too. I was knackered when we got home though and had BH and cramps all night so probably did a bit much.

I think Pedwar has moved but not sure if it's to head down. Feeling most of the wriggles at left side now rather than low down and can't feel a head digging into my ribs anymore. Will see what MW thinks next Tuesday.

spannermary · 29/02/2012 10:51

Hope you're all well and enjoying the 29th!

Well I've set myself the target of getting our hospital bags packed this week - motivated by the fact that we are travelling 3 hours to visit family this weekend for my aunt's 50th party (she's Irish; it'll be LEGENDARY!) and my sis's birthday too. I'll be 35 weeks, so although a smidge early, it's a good incentive.

It's a bit more complicated than I thought though: the list says bibs, babygrows, vests and no quantities - how the hell do I know how many to pack?

And is 34 weeks to early to venture into the murky world of nursing bras? Then I realised I have very few buttoned shirts to BF with, and how do I know what size pants I'll be wearing post delivery? How soon do you shrink to normal size - will I be my 6 month pregnant size - or still my 9 month size?

Who knew it was this tricky?! Still - I shall prevail! (If I can bloody move with my hip like this!)

...isn't the third trimester a treat? :)

Flisspaps · 29/02/2012 11:08

I've bought my nursing bras in my current size and one cup size bigger. Not wearing them until the baby is here though, hate non wired bras Hmm

Take 5 or 6 of each of the baby things in your hospital bag, if you need more someone can go to a shop. You'll probably look 5/6 months pregnant for a few weeks after so take your maternity bottoms, you can wear normal tops (like t-shirts) and just lift them to BF rather than wearing all button front shirts (stick a vest underneath so you don't flash your stomach if that concerns you - top goes up, vest comes down) and take pants a couple of sizes bigger. I'm normally a 14-16 but have s20 knickers so I can pull them RIGHT up over my belly now, tuck the flab in after (and they'll go over any CS wound if I end up with one) and there's plenty of fabric to hold a pad in place after.

Smile
Bananna1 · 29/02/2012 11:14

Feeling quite envious of everyone's nesting instincts - I could definitely do with some! We just have a pile of baby stuff cluttering up one corner of the office, looking decidedly messy!
I think the fact that we have a building site for a house at the moment, with builders in and out, mess and dust, is making me think that any precious energy I expend doing any nesting will all just be wasted.
But do plan to buy some drawers at the weekend so I can put the baby clothes in it instead of plastic bags - that must be a good start right!

Good luck for the GD results La Tristesse

JambalayaCodfishPie · 29/02/2012 11:15

Good morning all!! Any Leap Year Proposals? Grin

Spanner Thats my target for today! Its my day off, and its the only thing I want to achieve! Bought the last of my bits this morning. My suitcase is in the loft though, so will have to venture up there for it first. Im only 32wks but i'd rather have it ready for DP to just grab - he'd bring me allsorts of random stuff otherwise! Grin

notso/Bear Wish my nesting instinct would kick in - I really need to go through all the junk we've accumulated since we moved In July - make room for the baby junk we'll accumulate come April!! :)

OP posts:
digitalgirl · 29/02/2012 14:12

Afternoon ladies!

Have run out of space in my bedroom already, despite clearing out a whole chest of drawers for all the clothes (who knew we had so many vests and babygrows) and an extra deep drawer for cot sheets and blankets. Thinking some of baby's blankets might have to go in DS's room.

But yes, I have this need that EVERYTHING in the house needs to be right. Overdue on the things to do list is tidying the towel cupboard in the bathroom. It's a bloody state and there's all sorts of rubbish lurking at the bottom of it like out of date sunlotion and a thousand free toiletries/makeup travel bags that I save in case we need one to take on holiday.

fliss Good call on the extra large, but secure pants. I have some baggy ones that I intended on using but realised they probably wouldn't hold a maternity pad particularly well.
PS V impressed at your resolve to have a homebirth.

I'm hoping for the MLU, as I am keen to have as little intervention as possible but want to be within minutes of theatre should anything serious need to happen. Got away with G&A and pethidine last time, would be good to try and get through without pethidine this time.

whendoisleep DS (3) seems to have regressed slightly here. Hopin it's down to being ill over the weekend and my mum TOTALLY overindulging him while she's been around to help out. Am expecting his behaviour to get much worse when the baby turns up - but I'm hoping that as he's got his pre-school routine that there will be a bit more understanding. We haven't bothered with any 'mummy's having a baby' books but we do talk about the baby all the time. He does keep asking if it's going to come out now.

Cankle swelling has definitely gone up a notch, so currently sat with my feet up under my desk, but am having to stretch to reach my keyboard. Oh the glamour!

Nordicmom · 29/02/2012 15:34

Hi all! We've got our date finally! Baby will hopefully arrive on 23.4. And not before since we've got lot's to do including going to Finland for Easter ... Feeling very stressed and a bit panicky . Wish we could do this all the normal way like the rest of you. It all seems so complicated .
I'm on my pad so if somebody could please chance my date to 23.4. From the 30.4.?! Thanks

Updated for Nordicmom :)

spannermary · 29/02/2012 16:21

Congrats, Nordicmum - how great to have a date!

...as for your question, Yummymummy, I've not had morning sickness but my hormones over the past few days have been unbelievable. I'm completely questioning everything, and was almost in tears over not knowing whether or not to wash new babygrows. And whether to use fabric conditioner, once I'd decided that I would wash them! (Of course it could be because my silly cat ate lilies this morning and is now at the vets overnight on a drip...he's probably fine but I'm devastated)

Sorry to hear you're suffering...only a few weeks to go. But I know, morning sickness sucks. All the best with it!

Tinwe · 29/02/2012 18:22

Hi all

Feeling bit sorry for myself and tearful today :( DH's been working every hour, either at work or home planning and I'm really missing him. Daren't tell him that as he's under lots of pressure as it is, especially since he's taken on the bulk of DD's care now I'm poorlysick. Also fed up as I can't even cuddle and kiss her as I'm super infectious.

Went to docs today as I took a turn for the worst last night when I thought I was getting better. I hadn't gone sooner as I didn't want to be a "precious pregnant woman" and I know antibiotics can't cure a cold so was just going to wait it out but after hacking my guts up for hours in the night and worrying I was going to literally cough the baby out (plus DH having to sleep on the sofa to get any rest) I decided enough was enough! Got a v thorough check over, antibiotics, told to stay off work for at least another 5 days and lots of scare stories - severe infections risk prem labour so any deterioration in my health (or lack of improvement in 2 days), sudden reduction in baby movements or regular contractions etc etc and I have to see emergency cover/labour suite immediately. It's even more stress for DH as DD came about 2-3 weeks early and my due date is the latest estimate we were given so he's SURE DD2 will come soon. I feel so guilty as I can't do much practically to help or reassure him :(
Digitalgirl/Notso - had a mad nesting day yesterday. Managed to clean the oven, the fridge, the microwave, do 3 loads of washing and lots of financial stuff. Suffering for it now though...
Nordicmum - congratulations on your delivery date! How exciting for you to get a date to plan towards
Spanner - my aim is to pack my bag today too! Hope your moggy gets well soon

Tinwe · 29/02/2012 18:25

Sorry, just seen that was a long post and would've edited it but thought I'd better post it quick before my battery died.

JambalayaCodfishPie · 29/02/2012 18:35

I packed it! And then unpacked it to show DP where everything was. Also showed him where everything else baby-wise was, incase we need spares or if, for any reason, baby comes home before me.

Then cleaned our room, and DDs room - maybe that nesting is coming, just slowly? Ive always hated cleaning! So all in all, a good productive day off! :)

Nordic - What fantastic news! Ive really enjoyed following your story, I'm so excited for you! :)

Yummy I have been retching in the morning again, but its not turned into full sickness - and wont, fingers crossed! Grin

Oh, Tinwe, I really do feel for you, you need to rest up!

Tonight, my plan is a jacuzzi bath, then OBEM while sitting on my exercise ball, my backs starting to hurt because its arched all the time. :(

OP posts:
Flisspaps · 29/02/2012 19:19

Don't feel guilty, the best thing you can do for DH and DD is to rest so you recover more quickly. He's probably feeling awful that he's having to work all the hours he can, and that he can't make you feel better.

You're what, 33 weeks now? That's not too bad, if you do go into labour then chances are that all will be OK. Obviously it won't be ideal, and it would be better if she can hang on a bit longer and let you get better first though :)

Jambalaya Hooray for nesting! My nesting instinct has definitely buggered off again. I was knackered today, so let DD go feral for the afternoon whilst I sat on my arse. Feel much better for doing that, even though the living room was destroyed. Might spend the evening making the family greetings cards for the month so that I feel I've done something useful with the day, and then next week I can do April's - not much chance of getting the craft stuff out next month when DC2 appears...

yummymummyyobe1 Fortunately no return of the dreaded morning sickness here, however my heartburn has returned with a vengeance, my fingers are tingly in the evenings (when they start to swell up), I have delightful cankles and I too am waking in the night needing ridiculously small wees. And then getting back into bed only to need another one by the time I've waddled back along the landing Hmm I might take to sleeping with one of DD's nappies on, then I don't need to worry about getting out of bed.

Got midwife tomorrow, been intrested to see how bump measures although i do think its rubbish how they tell! Be nice if baby is engaged or a least head down. Hasnt been moving much today but just about counted 10 times, must not much room in there now.

Weight gain just under 2 stone now, and i have purchess some mat/feeding bra form mothercare in one size bigger and pants from primari for the hospital, thought id bin them after! They are in a size 18 , im normally a 12/14.

Sorry to those with sickness, im getting so knackered at night -cant get comfy!

I've also yet to pack a bag for the hospital -knowing me I will put it off and put it off until I am in labour this time. I did have one packed from about 36 weeks for DS1, even though he was a planned homebirth. I didn't want to be without essentials in case of a transfer nor did I want the stress of trying to get DH to pack a bag in case of emergency.

spannermary I think I got measured for nursing bras at about 38 weeks last time, but only bought 2/3 for the first few weeks (was pretty much washing every day anyway so it was fine). Then at about 6 weeks, when my milk supply had settled, I went and got measured again to make sure I had the correct size (I'm large of nork anyway so I really need to have the correct support). I will definately get measured again this time at around 38 weeks and am hoping to get measured post-birth again to confirm. On the post-birth size thing, I found I was a similar size to when I was 5/6 months pg, but with a much squishier tummy. I had some soft lounging pants with a lovely big ribbed over bump panel that could fold up or down that I found fantastic in late pregnancy and in the first few weeks post birth. Have got them out again this time and will be using them and my leggings I think. After a week/10 days I found I could wear regular (non-pg) lounging/yoga pants again.

Nordic fantastic news on having a date

yummymummy sympathies on the morning sickness - have you had it all the way through or is this a third trimester return?

Tinwe you don't sound well at all, I hope the ab's kick in and you start to feel better soon. You shouldn't feel guilty at all (if anything your boss/collegue should for infecting you - but I guess that never crossed his mind when he decided to heroically struggle into work). I second Fliss that you need to concentrate on getting properly well for DH and DD and labour. Your DH is probably feeling pretty helpless that he can't magic you well, so doing all he can to help in a practical way.

Fliss heartburn has been constant today - thank goodness for the large bottle of Gaviscon I have from the doctor. I also suddenly have a bladder the size of a pea - I go immediately before we leave for pre-school and by the time we are at the end of the road I need to go again. Thanks DS2, I know it is comfy but I would really prefer if you could try not to lie on my bladder all the time.

Nesting, and the need to have everything sorted is jolly inconvenient. I managed to turn out the junk room off our kitchen today (well most of it) and have unpacked two boxes still sealed from when we moved over 18 months ago, and have relocated all my crafty type stuff, plus the boxes of baby toys from DS and the small box of items I have bought in prep for DS2 into there. Now all I have to do is sort the shelf I have in there with all my larger kitchen equipment (oh and stress to DH the room is not a dumping ground for any old thing he can't be bothered to find a proper home for).
