Scoobysue · 26/02/2012 20:32

Everybody's motoring along now aren't they!?! So exciting to read how everyone's going & that I'm not alone in what I'm going through (ooo that was a bit sick making but I'm just feeling a bit gushy Blush

Am now 33+2, all very scary round about now. Had first bout of panic last night when had lower abdomen pains, back ache & what I believe to be BH Shock I mean I believe it was cos after around 30 mins it all died down and nothing since - phew!! I know now is reasonably ok for DS to be born but I'd rather he was cooked for just a little longer :)

digitalgirl · 26/02/2012 20:37

I'm hoping not to go overdue as my spd is quite bad now. Rolling over in bed is absolute agony, last night something in my pelvis clicked very loudly and getting up this morning was haaaard.

So as unprepared as I feel - mainly because I'm unable to do much myself and rely on dh a lot - I still don't want to be pregnant at the very end of April.

No nursery in this house - we're in a 2 bed and baby will be in with us till old enough to share with DS. However, living room skirting boards are finished! Yay! DH is oiling new wooden floor tonight so all it'll be fine to walk on tomorrow. Baby clothes & blankets have been fetched from loft and two laundry loads are in the laundrette's extra large dryer so I can pack my hospital bag later.

Tried my Moby out and very happy with the fact that I can put it on and pop baby in and out whenever necessary. So much handier than the wilkinet we had with ds!

Feeling really shattered this week. We haven't found a maternity cover for me at work yet and it's starting to get a bit close to the end! Everyone says it's not my problem but it will be when I return to work to an absolute bomb site! My mum is coming easter weekend and my mother-in-law the weekend after (due 28th April), hopefully to watch one beached whale not do very much at all and be loving and supportive. How hard can that be?? Might cry if they start judging the nursery/our preperations.

Thanks Jambalaya!
We might have a few March one, still hoping for a May one ;-).
I'm glad I'm with you lot ... not that I don't like the May-Poppers but I've benefited so much from your 2,3 weeks ahead knowledge Thanks

HollyPockett · 27/02/2012 13:48

Thanks for the new thread :)

I've had the loft insulation installed, fire serviced, shopping delivered and two lots of washing done! Taking half an hour before I tackle the spare room that by the end of this week should be a nursery!!

Then I can wash the Diva's clothes and pack hospital bag!

Phew!

Bearcrumble · 27/02/2012 14:12

My actual EDD is the 13th but they want to do my caesarian a week early so I'll put the 5th as I don't expect they'll do an elective on Good Friday.

holly hope you weren't installing that loft insulation yourself!

Blankets have been put in the wash today. Hoping to have everything laundered in the next couple of days, have already run out of places to put things and having to resort to giant plastic boxes which I hate.

DS still has a rash all over his torso today, after starting on the AB's yesterday. Most unlike him to have it more than a day - think if it's still there tomorrow will take him back to the doctors.

I feel bloody enormous today!

JackieJay · 27/02/2012 16:04

Hi guys - Can I be added back? Don't post here much, but do like reading how everyone's progressing.

Due April 29 (28) London, surprise!

HollyPockett · 27/02/2012 17:03

digitalgirl don't worry, I was on the sofa with my feed up watching the Oscars while two burly men made lots of noise did all the work :)

The contents of the loft are all over the house until we get back up there tmrw, it's driving me nuts!

marshmallowpies · 27/02/2012 17:14

I have a couple of stupid questions...having been given a lot of second hand and nearly new stuff, I showed it to a friend who recently had a baby & now of course I think half the stuff is no good...

  • she advised me to try and find newborn vests that are side or front opening, rather than over-the-head, as trying to get a squalling baby's head into a vest is apparently not fun.
Googled 'side opening vests' to see if I could find anything suitable - nothing affordable that I can see at all (e.g. £9 for 2)! Has anyone found them cheaper than that in any shops at all?
  • Anyone else buying a breast pump/bottles in advance? My friend said she'd got the full Avent pack including bottles, steriliser and pump from Babies R Us on sale but there doesn't seem to be any special offers on there at the moment.

I already have the steriliser from a nearly new sale, and the pump is currently £85 from John Lewis which is cheaper than Amazon - and I have a JL voucher burning a hole in my pocket - just not sure whether it's a good idea to buy the pump now. My friend swears by it so she has me swayed, just would love to know if I can get it any cheaper elsewhere!

Hope i didnt miss anyone then! Grin

Marshmallow I've never even heard of front-opening vests, I've always made do with the envelope top ones, which button under the nappy. :) Cant help with the breastpump stuff either im afraid. :(

The advert for my maternity cover went in the paper today Lorrainbow. It seems really real now. :D

OP posts:
Bearcrumble · 27/02/2012 20:13

Wrap around vests are good when the baby has no head control but you don't need them. Check on ebay for cheap seconhand ones - the Petit Bateau ones are lovely and they often come up cheap as people hang on to them to resell.

Bunsouttheoven · 27/02/2012 20:18

I had a couple of side fastening vests, easier yes but by no means essential. Really not worth seeking out if they are more costly/ you have some perfectly good secondhand envelope neck ones.

Re bottles/pump, I really really wouldn't bother to get these pre baby. All are easily available from supermarkets if needed immediately (which they probably wouldn't be IMO) or can be ordered online & with you within a day . If you do buy you may find you've wasted your money & never use them.

I was bought bottles as part of a present from work colleagues when I had my first dd. They took up loads of space & were never used. Just given to charity shop in the end. Also I only used a pump successfully when I had dc2 & that was purely for milk donation. Smile

whenskiesaregrey · 27/02/2012 20:24

Hello April strangers, just thought I'd pop in and see how everyone was doing (if anyone remembers me). It is 5 months since I left the thread now, and I have my 20 week scan tomorrow. Lovely to hear you all preparing for your new arrivals :)

digitalgirl · 27/02/2012 21:08

Waves at whenskies I'm so pleased to hear you're coming up for your 20 week scan. Hope you're starting to enjoy the pregnancy now.

marshmallow we did fine with regular envelope neck vests. Even with the poosplosions we could usually peel them off downwards so as not to try and pull a pooey vest over ds's head. Ah, memories!

In a total tmi moment - my bump is so big it's properly resting on my legs when I'm sat down now. And my pubic area feels really really fat, like I have fat fanny. Really don't remember this first time round Confused.

spannermary · 27/02/2012 22:46

Hey there whenskies - great to hear from you!

Digital - my bump is getting lower...I'm worried that the skin on skin might start to rub soon, causing some beautiful sores. Nice, eh!
