Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
newmummyvicky · 01/04/2012 20:02

a big congrats to pitmountain another little girl, soooo lovely x x

After my 'show' LAST NIGHT. Which was clear mucus mostly old blood at bit like the start or end of a period,
I couldnt really sleep, then this morning ive been having back ache on and off
most of the day. Now having stomach tighting every 7-10 mins trying to get hubby to time them? its difficult to know if they are real contrations and not B/H?

only time will tell, but hopefully we will have a baby will soon......

spannermary · 01/04/2012 20:58

UniPsychle good to hear from you! I live in Yorkshire, slap bang in the middle of te Pennines, and yep - they've forecast it for overnight Monday headed into Tuesday. It doesn't look like a lot...but it's certainly a change after last week.

Still, I've had a feeling for a while that this baby won't arrive until the 14th (D day+6) so we shall see...

But then again I was convinced he was a girl until he flashed us at 20 weeks!

Sounds like plenty is happening tonight newmummyvicki - 7-10 minutes apart is very exciting!!!

All the best to everyone. Wink

Flisspaps · 01/04/2012 22:30

newmummyvicky forget timing, let your body do what it needs to do. You'll know if they're getting closer together, DH will probably also notice too. Don't worry about letting him know if one is stopping or starting - if this is 'it' then let it happen. Worrying about timing and things can inhibit labour.

Good luck, look forward to reading about our first born-in-April-April-baby in the morning Smile

Bunsouttheoven · 01/04/2012 23:54

Congratulations pitmountain well doneGrin

Welcome thepudding Smile

newmummy I found the biggest indicator that my labour was progressing last time was not the time between contractions, more their length & intensity. For me though there was a marked difference between bh & the real thing. In the wk leading up to my ds' birth I kept thinking 'is this it?'. However, when it really was IT I knew without question iykwim. I did like timing mine as it gave me something to try & focus on.

Thanks for supportive comments ladies re my horrid pre clerking experience. I didn't get their names but I will attempt to seek them out when I'm in. I'd like to say I was strong & assertive at the time but I was more shocked & defensive than anything. Then I came home cried when I told DP what they'd said.

More crying today in fact after having a long day shopping & trying to find high waisted comfy trousers fir post cs. Also buying a gazillion kids presents for the birthdays of family/friends b'days coming up in the next month.

I lost the plot with DP as he has not put the cot up yet, moved the furniture we need to to sort out sleeping arrangements & something to out the babies clothes in.

We have rather buried our heads in the sand about our new arrival & I finally found a bit of a nesting instinct I suppose. Anyway the sobbing did get DP to shift a few bits about but nothing sorted really. Maybe tomorrow, need to get a chest of draws and.. and.....

Bunsouttheoven · 01/04/2012 23:55

That was longBlush

Pitmountainpony · 02/04/2012 03:32

Buns poor you. Listen just to make you feel better our cot is in the garage our car seat needs cleaning and we have boxes of stuff in the sitting room we thought we would have time to sort.our baby goes home tomorrow!!
Can I recommend you take a bristle hair brush and lots of flannels to put cold ice on. The mess they give for pain relief cause a lot of itching......for many.....the only relief for 24 hours was getting my husband to brush me and apply ice flannels.....heaven relief .
Good luck with section....much easier to recover when it is planned I am finding.

mummylivmade · 02/04/2012 06:28

Congratulations pitmountainpony

Bearcrumble · 02/04/2012 08:48

Congratulations Pitmountainpony - hope all is going well.

Thepuddingchef - Sorry to hear you've had a difficult pregnancy - what's been going on?

Buns I hope DH pulls his finger out and gets the cot up and sorts out the furniture this evening if he hasn't already.

I had a nice weekend - a good friend came over on Saturday and DS had a big nap so we went to the pub for an hour (ginger beer for me) and Sunday we had my old boss and her boyfriend over for lunch. DH cooked a roast chicken and I baked brownies with salty caramel pieces in them.

So tomorrow is my surgery pre-assessment and last midwife appointment. Booked in for Caesarian on Thursday. Has anyone having a caesarian written a birth plan? I was thinking of asking if it was possible to have a 'natural' caesarian as done by surgeons at Queen Charlotte's Hospital. There's a bit about it and a video here hackneydoula.co.uk/?p=80.

Emsgale · 02/04/2012 10:17

how exciting all these new arrivals already!
im desperate for labour to start (due on 7th) my dd was 7 days early but this bump is clearly not in such a hurry!

iv eaten a whole pinapple over the weekend although it gives me killer heartburn!
we tried sex last week I may have to try again tonight lol!
any other tips ladies?
im so impatient!!!

Flisspaps · 02/04/2012 10:25

Emsgale my top tip is to not listen to any old wives takes about inducing labour 'naturally'

NONE of it works!

Pineapple, long walks, sex, curry, raspberry leaf tea, castor oil, standing on one leg singing the alphabet backwards - its ALL rubbish.

All you'll do is wear yourself out or end up sitting there getting frustrated that nothing's working, and frustration and stress can inhibit labour. If any of it worked no-one here would be looking at hospital induction for being 'overdue' and all of the things suggested would be completely banned in pregnancy.

Sit on the sofa, eat biscuits and enjoy being bored on your own. Boredom with a new baby, sore nipples and a tattered fanoir really isn't the same Wink

Flisspaps · 02/04/2012 10:28

Oh, and to get the amount of bromelain needed from pineapple you need to eat at least 7 - in one sitting. That's more likely to have you shitting past yourself and the acid will tear your mouth apart long before you manage all 7!

spannermary · 02/04/2012 11:02

Of course, Flisspaps is right but I've been LOVING pineapple lately (and it's on offer in Tesco so I've been chowing down.)

I also went out for a curry with my best friend on Saturday night because she's determined to bring on labour for me, but that was more for fun. I've not had the whole heartburn thing (don't be jealous I've had most other things...except piles!) I've been eating madras and upwards curries throughout the whole pregnancy - it's been a real craving! Which I guess goes to show it doesn't bring on labour - but they've been delicious. I also have no intention of giving up spicy food during breastfeeding - unless baby really reacts badly. Although I might tone down to slightly milder curries for the sake of the nappies. Wink

I'm a big believer that the baby will come when he's ready, but if you can keep your metabolism etc up with walks and ball bouncing, then it's not going to do any harm - as long as your pelvis and hips are up to it.

I'm walking like John Wayne right now, so despite walking to the midwife appt last week - a couple of miles - I can't see myself walking any kind of distance just now.

Emsgale I'm just a day behind you - it's getting close, hey!

balkanscot · 02/04/2012 11:55

pitmountainpony, many congratulations!

I am with Flisspaps on inducing labour the 'old wives' tale' way. Wink Babies will come when they come. A few times I have been wondering if doing the housework will make the baby appear sooner rather than later but then I whacked myself out so much by dusting/vacuuming/cleaning that I thought, frack this, I am putting my feet up (and having another chocolate Easter egg).

Nordicmom · 02/04/2012 11:59

Congrats Pitmountain!

marshmallowpies · 02/04/2012 13:29

Have to have a little rant somewhere, so here goes: jogger on pavement who pushed past me as I was trying to get on the bus....could you not see I am heavily pregnant & therefore moving like a slow loris on tranquilizers not out of choice but necessity? GAH! Angry

laughingGnomette · 02/04/2012 14:21

Congratulations to everyone with new arrivals!

I'm sitting at my laptop willing away the hours - I'm still at work until the end of Thursday and so unmotivated to do any of it.

My midwife seems super-keen to get this baby out on time because he is measuring on the larger size. I'm fairly happy to go down the curry/sex/pineapple route but I'm being booked in for acupuncture/sweeps around my due date (28th) which I'm willing to try but not really sure what to expect! Has anyone tried acupuncture for bringing on labour or know of anyone who it's worked for?

Good luck to all of you with due dates looming.

spannermary - I'm totally with you on the spicy foods side of things, I'm certainly enjoying any excuse for a good madras, even if my due date is still way off!

lizmarshmallow · 02/04/2012 16:07

Matt leave has finally arrived and I've spent the last two hours reading all of the thread that I'd missed. I've mainly been lurking but figured now that I'm off, I can get involved. I have to say I'm a bit bored already, need to wash everything but waiting until DH cleans out the filter in the washing machine. Don't want everything covered in cat hair.

I'm 36+5 now and still feel tiny, only put on about 5lbs but I think I had a lot to loose (the lack of cider has had one good effect!).

Congrats to everyone who's already had their LOs, just starting to get anxious about when it'll be my turn!

I'll try add myself to the list..... wonder if I can manage

Yummymummyyobe1 · 02/04/2012 16:12

Congratulations to the new mummy's.

Currently sat watching bas day time telly and wondering if I am in labour, I keep getting tightening in my bump and feel like poo. Also have strange sensation in my bum like jumps or pulses, that then makes my bump jump. I do hope it is the case can't wait for baby to be born now . xx

Yummymummyyobe1 · 02/04/2012 16:18

Re add me please due 29th with DS1

Emsgale · 02/04/2012 16:47

thanks flisdpaps and spannermary
yes I guessed it was all usless and im very sure the baby will come out when its good and ready I hate being such a moaner!!

im just petrefied of being induced as I dobt want the drip or have to have epidural my last labour started naturally 7 days, early but I didnt progress past 4cm so had sintosin drip but my epidural didnt work it was completly unberable and ended in forceos so just desperate to go into natural labour in the hope I can do it myself this time push the baby out that is!

spannermary · 02/04/2012 16:48

LaughingGnomette the downside is that I feel as though I could fart this baby out with the amount of wind I've got (sorry - TMI!)

Today I have self-diagnosed myself with PUPP as my belly is ridged, hot and red, and has been for about the last ten days. I feel like I've been attacked by a swarm of mosquitoes. Everything else is fine, so although it's realllly annoying, I'm not concerned..

Of course it could just be a reaction to the lycra in the rather fetching cheap leggings I've been living in lately. Wink

Hope you're all well!

Yummymummyyobe1 · 02/04/2012 16:52

LOL spannernanny the thought of farting the baby out. I wonder if there is a medical term for it.

xx

Bunsouttheoven · 02/04/2012 17:35

Reminds me, when I was pg with dc1, my 96yr old lady neighbour (a yorkshire lass) told me before I gave birth. 'just remember lovey, it's just like shiftin' a gert shite'Grin

She was not wrong, it dies feel as though the baby will cone out your bottom. Smile

Lorrainbow · 02/04/2012 17:42

Hello,

On maternity leave so once I stop cleaning I should keep up with this message board better now! Got the sitting room carpet and sofa professional cleaned today, waiting for a conservatory cleaner and a man is coming tomorrow to look at some work to be done in the bathroom. I'm doing 9 months of nesting in 2 days!!

My midwife still can't tell which way up my baby is so we're going into York next week (Tue) to have a scan. If he's bum down I'll be offered a turn and if I don't choose that or it doesn't work they will look at a planned caesarean.

Will talk to hubby about the turn choice... has anyone had one before?

L
