Holly - my cankles are well and truly here to stay: they appeared at the end of week 35 as well... My mum has recommended sleeping with my feet on a pillow, so I now have one underneath them, and one between my legs too!

No chance of intimacy arranged like that...

I'm a planner too, and have been reading The Baby Whisperer. I think there's no problem reading lots, and assessing/adapting as you go along. I also think that just because you read a book it doesn't mean you lose the ability to be discerning and take what works for you whilst abandoning the rest!

We're not idealists, but I like the idea of having some sort of structure, without clockwatching. Obviously not the sort of thing you start immediately, but worth having in the background to consider when we've found our feet a little. I also like some of the practical advice she gives about simple matters (take the tags of baby clothes, set up the changing area early, make sure all bottles and jars are easy to open etc!)

You can tell she was a Yorkshire women!

Today's going to be a difficult day today, as DH is coming back from work at 1pm to pick me up and drive us 200 miles down south...yup Friday afternoon on the M1 and M25 at 36+5, and then back on Sunday afternoon.

So we've got our usual weekend bag, and then all the hospital gumpf, baby seat, notes as well. Hmmm. I'm sure it'll be fine...

Hope you're all well. :)

Thaleia · 16/03/2012 10:41

Congratulations Riamay!!

34 weeks so forever to go .... I've started to worry about the birth. Not much but I give it more thought and the more info I get, the more uncomfortable I feel. Maybe I was in absolute denial before but I have to say: ignorance is bliss. A few girls from my pg yoga class hat 26, 30, 34 labours - that's long! Very long!!

I'm tired today but only have myself to blame as went to bead at midnight yesterday. On the other hand, felt like an adult for not falling asleep on the sofa at 9pm.

Quick question re baby stuff: how many dream bags do I need? I've been given 2, is that enough or do I have to wash them every day and it's better to have 3 or 4? Also, as we're already in April/ May, do we need ti 2.5 tog ones or will they be too warm?

riamay2011 · 16/03/2012 10:50

Hey ladies thought id post to let you no how were doing. We have named her Jessica. She weighed 6lb 1oz. My labour was awful :( ended in emcs as I was hyper stimulating for 7.5 hours which means they were coming with no break and it bloody hurt!!!! Anyway still in hospital hopefully going home today. Hope your all ok x

marshmallowpies · 16/03/2012 11:08

Lovely name Riamay & hope you get to go home today...and that the awfulness starts to fade soon!

Am feeling much better today after being so grotty yesterday. Going out tonight, to what I suspect will be my last proper trip into town (town being central London) before D-day...I think I am done with too much schlepping around on public transport now!

Flisspaps · 16/03/2012 11:13

Gorgeous name riamay2011

Be kind to yourself, sounds like you had a really tough time of it :( take any help you need - and time. Glad to hear you're hoping to be home today, being home can help enormously IMO so you can just process everything in your own space and adjust to your new family Smile

dreamc1 · 16/03/2012 12:11

Hi ladies
Hit 36 weeks today, but since 6am have been having period pains in my back, on and off, now at the front too, again on and off, swing from feeling sick to being hungry, massive pressure on bladder and sometimes bum, also seem to be having a clear out that end (sorry tmi). Feeling really out of sorts. Too hot, too cold. Hoping this maybe the start of things...

digitalgirl · 16/03/2012 14:08

dream ooh, exciting! Could be...could be...

ria good to hear from you, lovely name for your DD. Sorry to hear labour was so traumatic, hyperstimulation sounds hideous, you're a brave brave woman for putting up with that for 7.5 hours. fliss speaks wise words, do be kind to yourself and accept as much help as you can get. And snuggle that DD of yours nice and tight!

thaleia are dream bags like grobags? If so, I think we had just the one that we used for DS and only washed it when he was sick on it. Had luxury of the tumble dryer back then so would dry it the same day in time for bedtime. Otherwise - you should be fine with two. We bought more as he grew, but by the time summer came around he was down to a vest and nappy, then refused to go back into a grobag after that...so am pleased we didn't buy too many.

balkan how did your scan go?

I've just come back from mine. Baby's tummy still off the scale but not as far away from it as it was last week. Head and leg catching up so it's definitely going to be a big'un. Estimated weight is on the 95th centile now, so a little lower than last week. Perhaps my easing off on the cakes has helped, damn - means I should probably continue being healthy. Might weigh myself tomorrow morning to give myself a sharp prod in the right direction. Will find out results of my GTT next Tuesday, still hoping it's not GD.

Nordicmom · 16/03/2012 14:34

Dream u definitely sound like you're having all the sorts of signs of impending labour so good luck although it could be a while ...
Riamay , lovely name . Hope you recover quickly , had an emcs last time so know what it's like. I had a hyper reaction to prostaglandins when I was induced that time but they reversed the reaction with an another drug thank god... It was horrendous !
We only used sleeping bags with my son from 4-5 m when he moved into his cot from the Moses basket . They were great but felt they were too big to use in the basket , he had a cellular blanket or two in the basket and first we used to swaddle him in one when he was a newborn...
Do love the sleeping bags . I thought he felt nice and cosy and secure in it when he went from the small basket into the cot and had no trouble of adjusting to the chance unlike I've heard can happen and we had no disturbed nights because of that. Recommend them definitely :)!

newmummyvicky · 16/03/2012 19:36

it does sound like something dreams let us know how u get on?

Ive been getting presure low down in my bladder on and off couldn't hardly walk round the supermarket last nite. But it did ease off. Baby didnt wake me last nite, but then a 6am i suddenly woke and realise i havent felt the little move for most of the nite! I started to worry and got up the eat breakfast and have a warm bath. he/she did start moving. Maybe they were having a quiet nite? Funny sometimes u want them to stop moving and then you worry when they do!

I think i have thrush, i did think it was normal discharge but its a little ichy.
ill go to chemist tomorrow, are and good creams you recommed i use???????
Hope it clears soon! sorry for to upfront talk lol

Flisspaps · 16/03/2012 19:57

newmummyvicky It should be fine for you to use Canesten, however be prepared for a pharmacist to not sell it to you without a prescription on the basis that you're pregnant.

If you find that happens, then you can either go and see your doctor for a prescription, or send someone else to the pharmacy on your behalf.

HollyPockett · 17/03/2012 08:11

Just catching up on OBEM.... It's the one with the two young girls, I get SO frustrated when they down and don't move and scream "I can't do it!!". I just want to shout back "get up and move"!!!

Would like to add that the Diva is my first and I've never been in labour before Blush judgey emoticon....

balkanscot · 17/03/2012 13:42

The scan yesterday showed that everything was normal. Apparently, the baby is on slightly larger size (no dainty baby for you, said the monographer), but equally, he is not off the chart either (exponential growth is within the limits). No excess amniotic fluid either. Now all I have to do is wait for the blood test results to see if they warrant me being tested for GTT. Although I still think it's the Jaffa Cakes that messed up my dipstick test at MW appt. on Wednesday.

However, I am trying to stay off sugar for the time being. Difficult, as sugar is not only in chocolate/sweeties/such like but also in fruit which I have been scoffing like there's no tomorrow throughout this pregnancy.

I have to confess I don't watch OBEM, really not that interested.

Off to murder some more moths in/around my wardrobe, little buggers have hatched - methinks because my DH (bless him) is not as thorough in hoovering little nooks & crannies - hoovering for me at the moment is pure science-fiction, I can barely lift up my swollen cankles before getting out of breath. Oh, my fitness, where art thou?

LaTristesse · 17/03/2012 17:05

Afternoon ladies...

I've finally started maternity leave-woo! At 37+4 I was cutting it a bit fine, but am now a lady of leisure! Just a shame I can't walk! Over the last week a whole catalogue of nasties have descended, in addition to the GD which I'm getting my head round and managing nicely with my diet, thank you very much.

So now I also have sciatica and a trapped gluteal nerve to add to the SPD, meaning all those advocating going for lots of walks to get baby moving can go jump, I can barely hobble about after DS.

My best friend has gone in to be induced with twins this weekend so I'm glued to the mobile for news, nothing yet...

And I had my first consultant appt since getting the GD diagnosis- saw the main guy's sidekick who was utterly rubbish. When i said I was colostrum harvesting she looked at me blankly and asked if I was having problems with leaky boobs. No, I'm doing it deliberately! I had to explain it all to her. Anyway they threw around the usual stillbirth, placental failure stuff I'd heard about but I managed to buy an extra 2 weeks until the next argument against an early induction. The mw that was in with me agreed I didn't need one either, which was reassuring. Just REALLY hoping the bub puts in an appearance soon...

Congrats Ria and Bushy, top news!

confuzed90 · 18/03/2012 09:28

Congrats ria and bushy!!! We're all starting to have our babies now! Made me feel that little more excited as its actually time! And how fast is march going? I expected it to drag but wow its not at all! I'm just hoping my baby doesn't turn into a mays baby.34+4 today and beginning to feel VERY ready! Although counting down the days till full term! Pineapple at the ready lol

Tinwe · 18/03/2012 11:42

Congratulations Ria and Bushy!

Hope everyone is getting mother's day treats/fuss made of them, including first timers - just because others haven't met him/her yet doesn't mean that you're not tending to your little one constantly already!

Sympathy la for your current pains, I had SPD last time but hardly at all this time which is strange. Exciting about your best friend having her babies almost the same time though :) Apart from you lovely ladies I don't know anyone else expecting...
balkan no sweets/choc for mothers day?! I'm with you re: OBEM, watched part of one episode with DH when pregnant with DD, turned it off and never on again. What will be will be and I'd rather not dwell on it too much.
Nordic hear hear re bags. We've used sleeping bags throughout with DD and would highly recommend them. Best bit is getting DD up to feed and popping her straight down again, she didn't get cold, the process was so quick and she wa straight back asleep
Apologies for not name checking further back - on my phone again.
I'm gearing up for mat leave from wed. Looking forward to having a bit more time at home but a bit worried how I'll cope with a very active 10 month old who screams if she can't crawl free when I struggle tocarry her and get up and down off the floor with my HUGE belly.

Tinwe · 18/03/2012 11:44

Ps, sorry about spelling/grammar in last post, phone is playing up

balkanscot · 18/03/2012 13:36

LaTristesse, yay for maternity leave, from tomorrow I am on annual leave (rolling into maternity leave from 16 April), feels unbelievably good so far - don't have to rush about, don't have to think what clothes to wear, what shoes to wear (cankles, cankles!!), at 35+5 I am so ready to just be at home. Not bored so far.

Just had a phone call from my MW, apparently my blood test shows glucose at 5.6, just 0.1 over the limit, so tomorrow I am going to have the GTT (and the scan on Friday showed everything was fine with the baby although it will be a large-ish-baby), just to be sure. Just looking through the newborn size clothes I have bought so far, thinking, will he fit into these????

Tinwe, I kind of wanted to watch an episode a few months back but DH said there is no point. And now I am actually glad I am not watching it. I don't think it would help me prepare at all.

newmummyvicky · 18/03/2012 18:35

Thanks for that advice flisspaps manage to get the problem sorted in the chemist, had a really nice pharmacist.

I had a bad night again on and off lower pains throught the night, baby seems fine today, happy wringling around! i think it must be brax hicks again, although they are not stomach contractions! must be getting me in gear for labour.
Hopefully which will be next week, dont want to wake till 40wksHmm
Ill be 39wks on wednesday. I use to had my period on the 24th, and i read somewhere that you baby can come in sycn with that???? its wishfull thinking lol.

Thaleia I have 3 sleepbags for baby, i think they 2.5 togs too which will be fine for april/may. But im not putting them in straight away, i think u have to wait till they a certain weight or size? for newborn im gonna have a blanket or do sqadling.

Tinwe · 18/03/2012 20:40

Ooh! Just had a "scare", regular, big contractions where whole belly was rock hard, feeling sick, low down pains and increasing back/hip pain... then just as suddenly they eased off and I'm just left achey. DH is very relieved! Nothing like last time when things started with a pop and progressed quickly but they say every baby is different...

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 18/03/2012 21:16

Tinwe I had a bit of a "scare" earlier too, had a really upset stomach and thats how it started for DS, plus had cramp lower down rather than high up like my Braxton Hicks have been.
Baba is not allowed to come for another seven days though!

My sister gave me the gym ball (and pump!) today, so that is now blown up and ready...

Flisspaps · 18/03/2012 21:31

Most of my aches have been low down, and I keep getting short spells of backache, almost like the kidney ache you get when you've drunk WAY too much! Baby's very wriggly at the moment, and I'm feeling very warm in the fanoir...most odd. I'm convinced my waters will go soon, and have put an inco pad on the bed under my sheet, although in all honesty I don't really expect this one to appear before 42w. Then again, why would I - I have nothing less to compare it too!

At some point very soon, we'll all have these babies one way or another Confused It only dawned on me earlier that my EDD is really only 2.5weeks away as I've been so focused on the alternative date that I've given people Blush

Boomerwang · 19/03/2012 04:38

It could be me soon! I'm having a panic because my waters have broken. I just know I'll be all over mumsnet today.

Tinwe · 19/03/2012 06:23

Good luck Boomerwang, not long now!

JambalayaCodfishPie · 19/03/2012 06:31
