Congratulations riamay!

Very impressed that you would own up to eating five jaffa cakes to the midwife, balkanscot. I'd happily eat twice that many but then would quite likely lie about it to a healthcare professional.

Am also swellling up. Including my lips weirdly, look like I've been for a badly done cosmetic procedure. No rings to take off - never got them to fit again after last pregnancy.

Am off for appointment with consultant tomorrow to discuss 'mode of delivery', so by this time tomorrow I should be either booked in for a section or panicking wildly and looking for a crash course on how to give birth.

Bearcrumble · 14/03/2012 20:41

Good luck Balkanscot - I hope the scan is reassuring.

Just wondering now we are nearing the home stretch what the story was when the rest of you found out you were pregnant this time?

I was in the park with a couple of other mums/toddlers and started feeling sick, I had to go behind a bush and throw up. When I got back I laughingly said "don't worry, I'm not pregnant!" - as I'd just finished what I thought was an early, light period. Having said that, I suddenly wondered if I might be and thought "Nah, but I'll do a test when I get home to rule it out". Of course it was positive and the bleed must have been implantation or just a bit of bleeding like so many people get in early pregnancy. It was bizarre though as DS was an IVF baby and we'd tried so long for him, this one took one shag at the right time of the month the first month I had the energy to check dates (my periods had only returned for 3 months and I was still breastfeeding).

Flisspaps · 14/03/2012 20:47

Bearcrumble We were on our second month of half arsedly TTC. I woke up on the day my period was due at about 2am and felt overwhelmingly sick.

I POAS, expecting it to be negative so early on but wanted to confirm it wasn't something dodgy that I'd eaten or just illness (if I was sick then as a CM I'd have had to close for the day so wanted to prepare to text parents) and was Shock to get a BFP. Not sure why I was surprised, DD was a one hit wonder and it's not as if I don't know how babies are made Grin

Did another test at about 6am, got up with DD and then when DH got up a couple of hours later I got him to close his eyes and put the two pissed on sticks into his hands.

His face was a picture.

Rather sadly, later that day we got a call to say his Nan wasn't expected to make it through the night, but I told him to tell MIL on the phone there and then if he wanted so that she could let his Nan know. He did and his Nan got the news whispered to her before she went :) Apparently she'd asked MIL the week before (after we'd visited her in hospital) if I was pregnant again, seems she 'knew' before we did!

Bearcrumble · 14/03/2012 20:49

Aww, that is lovely about his Nan.

Nordicmom · 14/03/2012 21:12

Congrats RiaMay!!!!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 14/03/2012 21:14

I've taken my engagement ring off, but my wedding ring is just about okay still, am not quite as swollen as I was last time! Check it a few times a day though, just to make sure... Grin

TTC story - We'd been halfheartedly TTC since DS was born, always knew we wanted them close together and knew it might take a while with DS being breastfed. (Although my nan and mum both conceived their second within three months, even though they EBF too, so I did wonder if it would happen quicker). I'd been up to scotland where my dad was working at the time to see my parents, and my period was due the day I was travelling back. It didnt appear, and I recognised the sicky feeling... Even ordered decaf coffee in starbucks on the way! Grin Tested the next day and it was positive :)

Twittle · 14/03/2012 21:46

Hi All sorry I have been catching up on posts but haven't posted for months, would somebody with more computer sense than I have add me to the stats please, I am due on 23rd April and have a now 19mo DS!

I know that big babies were discussed a while ago but I am measuring above the average centile and have been for the last 6 weeks... am getting a little nervous now that I have seriously been overeating and am going to have a seriously big baby that is either going to get stuck (watching One B Every Min is not a good idea in hindinsight....) or it will split me in half Blush! Is anyone else way above the centile, my DS was on the 82nd centile last time and was 8lbs 8oz and that was big enough!!!!

Its fun catching up on how everyone is doing... can't believe there is not long to go now......!!

VintageNancy · 14/03/2012 22:12

We'd been TTC for 9 months and I'd gone through phases of being convinced it wasn't going to happen. But the month we conceived I'd not stressed about it at all and got nicely drunk at my birthday party :D. 2 weeks later I was feeling sick and out of sorts so left work early, bought a couple of Tesco cheapies, and lo and behold it was positive. Did another one at 5.30am to be sure!

Good luck with your gtt and scan too balkan

bear I think I might have mentioned my ttc story at the beginning of the first thread - we'd been ttc #2 since ds turned 1. Had 4 mc's over 18 months. Saw a private mc consultant who put me on a steroid treatment plan for high natural killer cells, got pg on the second cycle of trying. Knew from 10dpo as I got my tell-tale cramping, but tested at 12dpo. The drugs do work!

Flisspaps · 14/03/2012 22:16

Twittle This series of OBEM is not a good idea for anyone to watch, it seems to be all 'lying on your back, epidural in, forceps out' births. Anyone who's never experienced birth would think that there's only one way for it to be done if they watched this! The other series were much better, the first being the best IMO.

I am still measuring 3.5cm over (well, was last week) and have no expectation that this baby is going to be smaller next week. It's way over the 90th centile line, but someone has to be (otherwise it'd be the 100th centile line!)

For info, if anyone else wants to add themselves to the list, feel free - it's just a matter of copying and pasting the list into the 'Add message' box, and then entering your details at the appropriate point in the list :)

Agree that this series of OBEM is so bloody negative! Definately better watching the older episodes on 4OD if this is your first!

I taught my last fitness class today. I think 34+3 is good going, considering its not my only job. I hated catching sight of myself in the mirrors though, Zumba-ing looking like I had a football stuffed up my top!

Have just 3 weeks of work-work left now. It's crazy that some of us already have our babies, makes it all suddenly very real! Confused

OP posts:
Bananna1 · 15/03/2012 09:49

TTC story - Well I wasn't trying AT ALL. Was dead against the idea of any more children at my age - 42, 3 growing girls, just finished my degree. But my husband doesn't have any, so as a gesture I said I was happy to talk about it whilst coming off the pill to prepare my body (been on it 10 years, thought it may take months to resettle), should we decide to go for it and use condoms instead. Was really hoping he'd decide he didn't want any, and after 2 weeks discussion, he came to the decision that being a step-dad was great and three children were enough for anyone! YAY I thought!!
I waited for my period to restart taking the pill. It didn't come, I started to turn down wine (WHAT!!) and feel extremely tired. I did a test half an hour before my daughter's 16 birthday sleepover, and it was positive!! How hard was it to act normally that night!!
We were careless once, 10 days after coming off pill, and I conceived, at 42. How mad is that! But great for us all in the end :)

spannermary · 15/03/2012 12:00

Our TTC tale: We decided to start trying after we'd been married for a year...but my pills finished after 11 months, so we moved it forward a smidge. After 15 years of trying not to get pregnant, unprotected sex was a new one for me! i had a negative test followed by a 'period' at the beginning of August - just before our summer holiday and wedding anniversary, so we knew I wasn't pregnant and celebrated in style...champagne, pate, saunas, hot tubs, and lovely bloody steak - after all, once I was pregnant all that would have to stop The sore boobs, inability to sleep on my front and strange feeling in my stomach? that was just my body adjusting to being pill free. Wasn't it?

When we came home, my friend was over spending the day gardening with us and commented after I'd been carrying myself differently, standing up oddly and expressing a real desire for lamb madras!

So I took a test...

And then, because I told my GP about my stomach cramps and bleeding, I had an early scan, which showed that I was 8 weeks pregnant: a whole 4 weeks further on than I'd thought...hope the little man likes champagne, pate and saunas... Blush

marshmallowpies · 15/03/2012 13:21

Have just had my first real night of feeling not-at-all good, at 35 weeks - I was at my pregnancy yoga class when I started to feel v queasy and unwell, managed not to be sick then and there at the class but had a proper upset stomach when I got home.

Was up and down all night as every time I laid down, I was tasting acid in my mouth - took a few indigestion tablets but they only seemed to give temporary relief. Trying to fall asleep propped up in bed is NOT fun.

This morning I've had a bath and then a small breakfast and seem to be doing OK. Still feeling shattered, though, and meant to be at work this afternoon. I'm working part-time so was hoping to carry on through to the end of March...but not really sure I can cope based on feeling this exhausted!

One really weird thing: I took my temperature last night to see if I also had a fever...luckily I didn't...but my temperature was 2 degrees below normal! (It was 35.8 C last night, now seems to be around 36.5).

Haven't managed to turn up any definitive info online about it, so going to keep monitoring it for next couple of days, and if I still feel not-quite-myself next week, get to the doctors.

HollyPockett · 15/03/2012 15:47

I posted yesterday but can't see it :) baby brain!

Congratulations Riamay and Bushy ! It's so exciting that babies are starting to come. I'm being very impatient and I'd quite lkike the Diva to turn up soon - well, once she's done cooking anyway.

My ankles are no longer. I have cankles. Sad times. Feet and ankles have really swollen the last couple of days, it's not a good look! At 36 + 1 I'm realllly starting to feel pregnant now, the Diva is giving some all day long, it's like a party in there and makes for interesting shapes on my bump.

newmummyvicky · 15/03/2012 17:15

I agree I have cankles too, my legs are bigger due to weight gain. Baby seems to wake me at 2am and 4am now, and I'm getting real hungry, trying 2 eat something healthy like cereal or fruit.

Just wanted 2 say a big congratulations to bushy and riamary. its lovely to have our first April babies:-D

I really want mine now, im thinking next week!

Jellybellyrbest · 15/03/2012 17:37

Hi. Avidly watching this thread!! Congrats to the 2 new mums who've already delivered! Wondering if s'one can add me to the stats as have tried in vain. I'm due 8th April & have 2DD who are 6 & 4. It's so nice to have some moral support on here (even just reading that I'm not alone with some of the symptoms/feelings I'm having!). Going away for w'end where there'll be no wireless, and already looking forward to checking in when we get back! (hopefully still just the 4 of us as 40 mins away from nearest hospital which is not mine!!!!!)

Boomerwang · 15/03/2012 19:03

Have had the worst night ever due to restless leg syndrome. Starting to feel more like I'm back in my first trimester -.- Didn't get any sleep at all until 12 midday today. I feel like a zombie.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 15/03/2012 21:26

Congratulations to the new mummy's.

I thought the final trimester was meant to be the easier one but I am finding the hardest at the moment. Baby likes to stick his bum out of my bump as often as possible, less than comfortable coupled with a lack of sleep and heartburn, leaky breasts and cramp = a very uncomfortable mummy to be.

Baby does not realise that poor mummy has to be in work all day and has an 1hr and 45 round trip everyday. saying that only 12 working days until leave starts and 6weeks and 3days until baby is due. xx

balkanscot · 15/03/2012 22:02

HollyPockett, I am now firmly in the cankles brigade, too. Shock I have always been so proud of my slim ankles. However, since last week my lovely ankles have been a distant memory. :sob: :sob:

I have my "large for dates" scan tomorrow afternoon, hopefully no gestational diabetes.

Last day of work tomorrow. And it's a half day, too!!!! Happy days, I will be able to nap whenever I want!

HollyPockett · 16/03/2012 09:11

So glad that it's not just me with the cankles!!! Not very supportive of me, sorry! They get bigger as the day goes on and by about 4pm I have no ankle bone at all :(

They're back to normal this morning thank God. It's quite bizarre how much my body has changed in the last week. Since hitting 35 weeks I've had swelling, going to the loo a lot and the Diva is all over the place all day, the sleep pattern that she seemed to have developed has long gone!

I bought The Contented Little Baby book this week. I know it's a divider but I like to read a ton of research and ignore it all before i do anything new! I quite like the idea of routines, being a Virgo anal type, structure appeals to me! I wonder if the Diva will agree ;)
