boomer I've never had leaky boobs in pregnancy (or seen any holesGrin) but have successfully managed to bf two dcs until 2.5yrs. Leaking or otherwise will have no bearing on your success. Smile

Bearcrumble · 10/03/2012 10:55

I can get colostrum out if I squeeze them but they don't leak on their own - didn't with DS either. I wouldn't worry.

UniPsychle · 10/03/2012 20:30

Thanks Hotpotpie feel better about my cake and mini-egg munching now.

My next weirdness is I've developed a rash all over my bump and now it's on my lower legs too. Only a bit itchy, can't decide whether I ought to worry about it or not!

As for leaking, pretty sure there's no link between that and milk production. I leaked a lot and early with DS1 but my milk took ages to come in. All leaking guarantees is lots of changes of pyjamas!

Boomerwang · 10/03/2012 23:42

Uni is the rash quite bumpy, like cellulite? I had that on my lower legs along with the crazy itch but it's been gone since I posted about it though.

newmummyvicky · 11/03/2012 18:20

hi
My boobs havent been leaky, but if i squeeze them i can see holes and get a bit off yellow fluid out from them colostum.

My legs seem to have doulbe in size latley and my weight is now 2 stone plus eeeekkk, just hope i can shift it when baby comes! hopefully breast feeding will help. I had a little on my electric breast pump quickly just to see what it was like! didnt feel too bad. hubby was laughing.

We tried sex the other night, its been about two wks since before that. I do worry the bump, but it did feel ok! My friend seem to think sex is a good thing and help you go into labour! i did also tried a hot curry too, but neither worked :(

Im still counting down! I have midwife tomorrow at 38wks, im praying this will be the last one but have a feeling ill be there for the 40 wk one too!

JambalayaCodfishPie · 11/03/2012 18:29

Hello Ladies!

Had my second NCT class yesterday, was every bit as enjoyable as the first - especially watching DP change the 'surprise' nappy! Grin

We all went out afterwards too, and although I'm the youngest, definately feel like we've landed a good group, lots of chat, no awkward moments! Smile

Had a few odd pains today, can't really explain, but i didn't like! Being my second, I wouldn't call it a contraction or BH, but it was DEFINATELY not nice!! Sad I have an appt with the MW on Tuesday morning, so at least its not long to wait until I can ask!

It's been ages since I posted and so much has been said, not long at all for some of you!

Keep well!Smile

Boomer - the rash is a bit bumpy on my legs, less so on my tummy. It's itching more - but then it's been so hot it's like summer here today. Been lazing in the garden looking like a python that's swallowed an antelope.

newmummyvicky - can't believe you're 38 weeks, it makes it all seem so soon. I still haven't packed my hospital bag Blush, clearly still in denial. I have finally managed to haul myself to Boots to buy nappies etc. Spent ages looking for Lansinoh (nipple cream); it wasn't in the Breastfeeding section but in the Treats for Mums aisle along with piles cream Hmm

Jambalaya pains sound most unpleasant, at least being a second-timer you're not worrying about it being labour. Hope they go soon.

spannermary · 11/03/2012 19:52

Ah, piles cream - I'd been wondering what to get my mum for mother's day - but if it's a treat! Hmm

Speaking of which, I wonder if any of us will be new mums in time to get a card next week!

Boomerwang · 12/03/2012 03:21

I haven't packed my hospital bag either :s but I'm absolutely sure I won't be going into labour by the due date anyway. I've got a feeling it'll be about a week after.

How can I 'feel' these things? I wonder if I'll be right. Like I 'feel' I'm going to have a girl.

Flisspaps · 12/03/2012 07:35

DD was born the day before Mothers Day in 2010, clever thing managed to sneak off in the night and bought me a present and a card which was lovely Smile

Not so lovely was that we were all expected to eat our Mothers Day hospital lunch in the maternity dining area, and all of us had to leave our tiny new babies in their cots by our beds while we went Sad

Actually, I've just thought, I'll pack my sling in case I go in again - can take baby around with me then. There was no bloody danger of the hospital food being hot enough to burn if it hit dropped on a baby anyway...mmm, lukewarm processed turkey slices!

Lorrainbow · 12/03/2012 11:57

Hi,

I haven't been following this thread very well over the last week; a bit under pressure at work as they haven't found my replacement and people keep saying to me "Before you go, can you look at..." !! Leaving on 30th March.

I'm 33 weeks pregnant and am starting to feel and get sick again (haven't been sick since 1st trimester) plus going to see the midwife this afternoon with possible SPD. The question I have is - when do you call in sick to work when you feel sick/tired all the time?!? I'm sitting at my desk now, working away but feeling heartburn rise into my throat every now and again... I'm shattered and have pains below when I move... but I can still work?

digitalgirl · 12/03/2012 13:55

lorrainbow perhaps take a couple of days off - and you might find you feel a bit better after a rest. I know with my SPD I find some days harder than others. Last Tuesday I shaved my legs in the shower, which involved standing on one leg for a few minutes - this was such a bad idea and I was in agony for most of the day. However, next day wasn't so bad.

unipsychle I got a rash on my tummy in the second trimester. Doctor advised aqueaous cream and wrote out a prescription for me so I didn't have to pay for it. Might help?

fliss can you put newborns in a sling? I wasn't sure whether to pack my Moby as it says from 8lbs. In all likelihood this baby will be more than 8lbs but DS was 7lbs so if that was the case would I have been able to put him in the moby?

Last week of work for me! Finish up on Thursday!!! Woohoo!

I feel so so massive when I get up in the mornings, maybe because the baby spreads out a bit when I lie down, so getting into a sitting position means it's pushing more into the rest of my body. But can't see this continuing for another 5 weeks. Had a catch up with my NCT friends from when I was pregnant with DS - and they all thought my bump looked massive and much lower than it was with DS. Feels much lower, can't even bend over the sink to wash my face in the evenings.

Hope everyone else is ok - and those on maternity leave already are enjoying the sunshine. Can't believe we haven't had any early arrivals yet!

spannermary · 12/03/2012 14:04

Lorrainbow - I agree with Digital: take a couple of days to relax at home, and see how you feel then.

It's so important to look after yourself. It sounds as though your work is taking the piss a little and not taking into account the fact that you are WELL into your third trimester. They also need to realise that it's time to slow down.

It doesn't mean you're shirking: there's a hell of a lot going on in our bodies at the moment and I think sometimes we take it all a little for granted. And - as many people have said before - you won't get a medal for overdoing it.

Take care :)

Flisspaps · 12/03/2012 14:40

digital I think it depends entirely on the sling.

I've got a babasling this time so should be OK, however DD was over 8lb anyway, and seeing as the midwife is convinced this one is going to be massive then I should probably consider taking the buggy with me instead Wink

If I have to go to hospital again then I'd sooner have baby with me even in a slightly unsuitable sling for a few minutes instead of on an unsupervised ward. DD had an electronic tag fitted for security, (ASBO baby) but it kept falling off her skinny ankle so was no use to man nor beast. Whilst unlikely, it wouldn't have been impossible for someone to have wandered off with her whilst I was eating lumpy mash in another room!

Bunsouttheoven · 12/03/2012 16:03

Such a contrast in hospitals, mine have signs up everywhere saying baby must be with you at all times (in cot, no carrying whatsoever)

Yummymummyyobe1 · 12/03/2012 16:30

DP and I have had a sick bug all weekend oh the joy it has been like a olympic sport in this house, the relay at that. LO seems happy enough though.

13 working days left before leave starts (not that I am counting or anything) .xx

Flisspaps · 12/03/2012 16:42

Lorrainbow If you feel too sick to work at any point, go home.

All I will say is that if you take X days sick leave within so many days/weeks of being due to start your maternity leave then your employer can just start your maternity leave early, but it's unusual for that to happen.

Learn to say no to people as well if they say 'Can you look at X before you go' - just point out that you don't have time. Not having a replacement in for you isn't your problem though - I think mine was found when I was about 36+5, we had about a week to do handover (and train her up to do the job from scratch Hmm) and then I left at 38w. Once you're not there, it's not your problem any more.

Bloody baby has been going bonkers today. It's not sat still for a minute. I am hoping that this is it making final preparations for landing, however tomorrow would me hugely inconvenient as it's DD's second birthday so we'll have visitors at home all day, and as I'll be 36+6 I'll still be a whole 1 day out of the 37 week date set for homebirth to be given the thumbs up.

JambalayaCodfishPie · 12/03/2012 17:37

So..... I have a replacement. A man-shaped one.....

To be fair, he seems really nice. Im sure he'll do great, but, well, its my job. MINE.

And now I have to be shadowed. I hate being shadowed. :(

Ah well....... MW tomorrow!

OP posts:
balkanscot · 12/03/2012 18:45

35 weeks tomorrow and strictly speaking, only 3 days left (whole day tomorrow, 1/2 day on Wednesday, whole day on Thursday and 1/2 day on Friday) before I bugger off on 4 weeks' annual leave, then start maternity leave proper straight after the annual leave, on 16 April, a day before my due date. CAN'T WAIT! On top of feeling mahoosive and my feet swelling to disgusting proportions, I have developed a stinging pain on top of my left foot (near to the part where foot actually joins the leg, as far away from toes as possible, really) - no bruise marks or anything, just this stinging feeling all day long (gets a bit better if I prop my feet up). Can hardly walk and have started taking my slippers to wear at work.

MW doesn't think it's anything serious but the pain has been around since last Wednedsay... May mention it again during another MW appt. on Wednesday afternoon. It's driving me NUTS!

Bunsouttheoven · 12/03/2012 19:09

fliss it's my ds's 3rd b'day tomorrow (& mine!) I am just about to get the dc into bed so I can start making the cake. Part of me is wishing that I'd just bought one. Just want to put my feet up but also have wrapping & balloons etc to do.

yummy hate hate hate sick bugs, hope you all feel better now.

jambalaya from my experience & most I know, once on maternity leave you won't care what is going on at workGrin

balkan def mention it again to midwife, just to be sure.

Flisspaps · 12/03/2012 21:06

Jambalaya I feel your pain about the replacement - I didn't return to work after DD was born, and yet I still talk about 'my job' Grin. It helps a lot that my replacement wasn't as good as me (I've been told by lots of people) and she's recently left, which means the door may be ajar for me to return if I want to.

Buns Happy birthday for tomorrow! I'm currently negotiating with DC2 still, have been having dodgy period-type pains for most of the evening which I am ignoring as best I can. I am not having this baby before 37 weeks. Anything before 42 weeks will be a surprise, but tomorrow is really Just Not Convenient!

After months of wishing that I could go back I now don't feel that I do given that there have been more redundancies announced there, and DH's department of 3 is guaranteed to lose one. He is only there now because someone in another department resigned after DH has been given his redundancy notice last year so they didn't have to , so we hold out NO hope of him staying this year. Fortunately we anticipated this and currently have 19 job applications in, some of which will require relocating. Rather than seeing it as a bad thing, we're trying to look at it as a big adventure and see where we end up! The only thing with having to sell up and move on is that we're not sure if we're in negative equity with our house, and it subsided about 20 years ago so we'd probably have to get the work that was done on it checked and re-certified as still sufficient to prop the old dear up.

Que sera, sera, eh?

newmummyvicky · 12/03/2012 21:46

hi had mw visit today, maybe my last one..... im kind off praying lol!
measure 38cm, so still spot on for that average size baby, well hoping.

Heartbeat was stronge and hubby came with me, and we managed to record the baby on phones. Thought it might be our last change to hear him/her inside.

My mw said things to get your labour in place- Try hand expessing milk sqeeze it out everyday, and sex the man's sperm can get you started.
was a little shock but she explained about the hormones they give in hospital. Shock

Treated myself to a new phone today, well due an upgrade, i got a nokia windows ones. We cant really buy nice shoes and clothes at the mo, so that has cheer me up! Grin

Goodluck to all, leaving work, if your finishing soon- Im really enjoying MAT leave. x

Flisspaps · 13/03/2012 07:14

newmummyvicky if any of the suggestions to get women into labour worked then no-one would go over 42 weeks or go for induction. NICE guidelines say that sex isn't to be recommended as a form of induction as it doesn't work. Yes, there's prostaglandin in semen but only a small amount, the levels in pessaries are more concentrated. You'd need a LOT of sex to make it work!

Labour starts due to a hormonal exchange between mum and baby. They don't know what causes it to happen naturally, but it happens and babies come when they're ready.

I get really Hmm at MWs and other professionals suggesting ways to get things going because we don't need to DO anything, that's the beauty of birth Smile save your energy. Eat cake!

spannermary · 13/03/2012 10:46

Ah, newmummyvicky - how lovely to get a new phone! Mine is knackered and I am quite concerned that I may go into labour and not be able to get in touch with DH. But I've still got 6 months left on my contract, and can't afford to buy it out (and no insurance...silly) so I'll just have to wing it!

Hope you're all feeling good today. I have swollen legs now and feel like I've been on a long haul flight. Hopefully keeping my feet up, drinking a ton of water, and then walking the mile and a bit to the midwife appt this afternoon will help!

Still, I'm well aware there's plenty worse that could be happening right now - and however uncomfy I am I still feel SO MUCH BETTER than I did at 14 weeks!

bushymcbush · 13/03/2012 11:20

[peeks head round door] Hello.

I've been away a while. Some of you may remember me from when I had scary news at the 20 week scan and other complications afterwards.

May I announce the birth of my daughter on March 11th, 5 weeks early, weighing 3lb 4oz. Her name is Martha. She is on SCBU but doing really really well. And she is small but otherwise absolutely perfect.

I'm so happy!
