Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi Lilliana, of course it's not too late. The more the merrier!

sam86 I thought I had it covered with the folic acid. Now I will have to go out tomorrow and get some vitamin D as well.

I also have what looks like a bump but must be bloating. I keep thinking how the bloody hell am I going to keep this a secret for another 6 weeks or so when I'm showing already?!

Nice to see I'm not the only one looking at maternity clothes and prams already. I don't dare jinx it by buying anything yet but I've got my eye on a few things.

tits I hope the test comes back clear. I'll have my fingers crossed for you.

I called the doctors today and they said the midwife won't want to see me before I'm 8-10 weeks so I've made an appointment for the 13th of April. Apparently I have to drop in before then and pick up some kind of pack from reception because it has forms I have to fill in to bring to the appointment with me.

Does that sound right? What kind of questions does it ask does anyone know??

applepieinthesky · 16/03/2012 21:00

Also can't book the 13th off work because someone else from my department is already off so will have to throw a sickie. I hate lying. I'm not very good at it.

DesperateHousewife21 · 16/03/2012 21:18

apple it's your pregnancy notes, they give them to you at the docs now which has changed in 2ish years! You need to fill out a personal info form at the front that's all, name, address, next of kin etc not all that exciting!

Lilliana · 16/03/2012 21:23

Thanks for the welcome Apple and blonder

I forgot totally that I wasn't supposed to drink tea today, but I do manage on decaf ok as I have it so milky I don't think it makes much difference!

Blonder I have no clue about the book but if anyone can suggest one I think my Dh would be interested too.

Apple I hate lying too - I'm also rubbish at it and can't think quick enough when someone asks a question. Can you not just say it is a hospital app for tests / abnormal smear (I had millions of these) or similar unpg related issue and can't be changed?

Sorry if I sound thick but what do I do now? Do I ring gp and say I'm pg or just book an appointment without saying why? Or am I supposed to phone a mw direct?

applepieinthesky · 16/03/2012 21:55

It varies a bit depending where you live Lilliana but it seems most people have been told they don't need an appointment with a GP first anymore.

I just called reception and said I need to make a booking appointment with the midwife. She asked how far gone I am, if it's my first appointment and about going to pick up these forms beforehand. That was it.

desperatehousewife I thought it was going to be more exciting than that. Never mind Smile 13th of April seems ages away but by the time it gets here I shouldn't have to wait much longer for a scan.

OMGBFP · 16/03/2012 23:33

Just bought decaff tea. tastes like leftover water you've boiled veggies in. Either that or my tastebuds have gone haywire which is a possibility as just eaten a margherita pizza and it wasn't very nice.
got some crampy things going on.

WaitingForMe · 17/03/2012 07:08

A guy I work with blogged during his wives pregnancy then published it. It's called "Goodbye pert breasts." I bought it for a dad to be friend and he liked it.

I've got the DK pregnancy day by day book and think it's pretty bloke friendly. I actually chose it over the others as my six (nearly seven) year old stepson loves science and I can use the growth pictures with him once we tell them.

While this is my first pregnancy, DH's two sons spend loads of time with us. I think they'll be happy about it but I feel like I'm pushing my luck given what a great relationship I've developed with them. Hope this doesn't ruin that.

DesperateHousewife21 · 17/03/2012 07:13

I drink pg tips decaff and it's not too bad, it'll never taste te same as normal pg though.

I'm getting my haircut today and going to see FIL to break the news! I managed to pursuade dh saying he'll be a bit put out if he's the last one to know at 12 weeks.

Still have bowel issues :( I think it's my version of morning sickness.

OMGBFP · 17/03/2012 07:34

I was looking at this one www.amazon.co.uk/The-Blokes-Guide-To-Pregnancy/dp/140190288X/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1331969326&sr=1-4 in the shop the other day, looked good. lots of personal experiences rather than facts and figures thrown at them.

This one www.amazon.co.uk/Dad-Manual-Brilliant-Father-Haynes/dp/1844254437/ref=sr_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1331969326&sr=1-5 should be good too as it's a Haynes one, the dudes who do car manuals would probably appeal to a bloke lol

I'm so tired i can't sleep, I have insomnia, was taking diazepam and zopiclone previously now of course cannot take owt and had to stop there and then, not slowly wean off them. D P knows I struggle like mad to drop off yet kept ringing and texting me, then when had just dropped off after he came in last night, (I'd thrown a duvet and pillows on sofa for him and texted to tell him) he came in the bedroom at 2am and woke me up half sleepwalking so half not his fault i know but you aren't exactly rational when dog tired and 2am Angry I ended up on sofa yet again. So sick of this, all the baths and milky drink stuff just doesn't work. Am going to look into homeopathic remedies as I cannot put up with 4 hours sleep a day.

Decaff - this is Asda's own. Will upgrade to something proper asap, it really is awful. I used to have decaff all the time and don't remember it tasting like this!
Woke up and felt nauseous again but still no Envy

DesperateHousewife21 · 17/03/2012 07:39

decaff I agree that 4 hours sleep when you're pregnant isn't good and you def need to rest properly but...4 hours sleep will be a luxury when the baby is here Grin

Kyzordz · 17/03/2012 07:40

I have pg tips decaff too and it's do-able. I still have to have one proper coffee and one proper tea every day but I'm a big tea/coffee drinker, was having about 5 or more cups of each a day! I've cut down massively and it's ok so far :) needs to be done! I don't feel too sick this morning but my boobs are really starting to ache/hurt now :(

TheManInTheMoon · 17/03/2012 07:42

Morning all, was just wondering, has anyone else heard of or had any funny cravings like eating soap, coal, the inside of tea bags, smelling things etc? When I was pregnant with DS smells were what made we feel sick ( especially the MILs washing powder ) and it's already happening again Sad!!! The only thing is my craving was smelling detol ALL THE TIME ( weird I know but I couldn't help it, it was mad ). i REALLY hope that I don't have a funny one like that this time Confused. My MW last time told me that mine was one of the more normal cravings she had heard of so I was just curious what other crazy ones there were that we might be in for lol

OMGBFP · 17/03/2012 07:47

DH did you just call me DECAFF?? Grin

DesperateHousewife21 · 17/03/2012 08:10

HAHAHA!! Yes I did!! Omg in losing it, this baby has got alot to answer for! Grin

OMGBFP · 17/03/2012 08:13

Grin preggo brain :p

Cravings for weirdy dtuff? no not yet but i've gone off a fwe smells

Elizadoesdolittle · 17/03/2012 08:35

Another one for pg tips decafe here. It's the best one I've found and I've tried a lot. Like a lot of us on here I love my tea. It's still not quite the same as a proper cup of tea but it's not too bad.

The dr calculated my due date as being 9th nov. I don't think that's right as she didn't take into account my irregular cycles. Still I'll up date the stats when I'm next on the lap top as all my official docs will say the 9th. I expect it will change again when I have my scan but I guess that could be the same for a lot of us on here. Where I live we still have to see our gp first to register pregnancy. We then get a letter telling us when it's our booking in appointment with the midwife. DH came with me for our DD for that one but remember it was a waste of time him being there so he will be glad to get let off this time round.

Have a good weekend all. Am on a girls night out tonight, going to be fun avoiding the why are you not drinking questions!

funthatisfunny · 17/03/2012 09:23

Hello Newbies! welcome! I am so sorry I can't namecheck you all, this thread is too fast and I just nipped on while I am working!

No cravings for weirdy stuff - dettol does sound strange but then again I think it is quite common! Last pregnancy I crave meat, lots and lots of meat! this time no cravings so far at all, just aversions to nearly everything until dinner time when it all calms down. is funny having DH home as it is our first full day together since we found out a week ago, but because I am 'fine' in the evenings he hasn't really noticed any pregnancy weirdness. Today he was spun out when I refused my eggs and toast though and I think starts to get that I really am pregnant!

I just bought the pregnancy bible today :) It has made me feel really pregnanct for some reason! I had it for my last pregnancy and loved it - then lent it to my lovely friend and won't be able to get it back until April/May - I want it now! So will just sell on my old copy. Can't wait to be able to peruse the piccies and info when I am in bed, in a proper book - not the internet! DP was given 'blokes guide to pregnancy' last time and though he didn't read it I really liked it - it wasn't silly or patronising and was actually true. I think if a woman can enjoy a man-pregnancy book then it has to be a good 'un?! Not all 'blokey' and annoying...

Ah, controversially I am not drinking decaff just because I am preggo. I have not actually seen any proof that caffeine affects anything, the guidelines seem hither and thither, so am not avoiding it. I don't drink much anyway. I have one filter coffee in the morning (yum) and maybe a coffee in the afternoon and otherwise drink decaff but that's habit from breastfeeding. I like co-op decaff tea, I can hardly taste the difference.

got to work. Working all day today then hope to have most of tomorrow off. Am really really tired today. Got up twice to go to the loo last night which is ace; I want the weeing to kick in (and the crying!) then I shall feel properly pregnant! hehe.

I hope you poorly ladies feel better soon and that worries turn out to be nothing.

funthatisfunny · 17/03/2012 09:24

sorry for the typos. I can't see properly am dead tired!

Lilliana · 17/03/2012 09:47

I have tetley decaf and is fine, the cheapy asda stuff we have at work is horrible though - might have to consider bringing in my own.

No cravings or morning sickness here, Sorry to those that are feeling rough, how long was it until you started feeling sick? I haven't had much appetite until tea time and hurty boobs but that seems to be my main symptoms atm.

Thanks apple will call the docs on Monday and be prepared for them to be distictly underwhelmed - don't they know this is the most amazing, exciting news of the year?! Grin

Thanks for the bloke book suggestions, will have a look at them. Looking forward to getting a pregnancy book for me too, I love reading and want to know the ins and outs of whats happening. Which would you recommend? Fun mentioned the pregnancy bible which sounds good.

misslaughalot · 17/03/2012 10:02

I'd be interested in recommendations for a good pregnancy book too! Bring on the suggestions from those ladies in the know!

jaylee89 · 17/03/2012 10:30

hope everyone is well and a big CONGRATULATIONS XXX

Stuntnun · 17/03/2012 10:35

FUN I'm glad to hear you're breaking the caffeine trend because we don't all have to do things the same way. It doesn't sound like you're getting that much caffeine anyway. I think the more hardened caffeine-addicts here are cutting down because the recommendation is to avoid consuming more than 200mg a day (which is two cups of coffee or three cups of tea).

There was a large study that did take into account the confounding effect of morning sickness. It showed an increase in miscarriage rates from 13% in the 0-200mg caffeine group to 27% in the 200+ mg caffeine group. HOWEVER the study acknowledged the limitations that it didn't include women that hadn't reported for medical treatment after MC AND it was only a partially prospective study (meaning that some of the women were recruited after they had already had a miscarriage). I'm sure the 200+ mg caffeine group would have also included people that were consuming up to 1000 mg a day. Ultimately there are so many different factors involved that it's just an educated guess that too much caffeine is a risk factor for miscarriage. Anyone sticking to below 200mg a day has nothing to worry about, anyone regularly taking more than 200mg a day probably has nothing to worry about either but there is an association that us paranoid types are going by and cutting our caffeine intake down.

Right, better get back to studying for my Statistics degree (you could tell couldn't you!)

BTW decaf Yorkshire Tea is pretty good. I got some of that wretched herbal rubbish as well. I'm also still decaffeinating my own tea by pouring the first lot of water away and rebrewing the same teabag.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 17/03/2012 10:36

OMGBFP ? You'll be fine in the flat. I think you could get away with one bedroom until 2 at least.

And on the subject of prams, I have decided I probably will need a double (dd will be 2.9 when the baby is born). Looking at the Britax B dual because I can use it as a single when she doesn't need it anymore.

Detective ? getting signed off sounds like a good idea. I know how awful morning sickness is, I certainly wouldn't have wanted my midwife to be suffering it! And tiredness will make it so much worse.

No cravings here yet. Last time I went totally off meat.

ConfusedMumDotCom · 17/03/2012 11:22

Tentatively knocks on the door to the November 2012 club...

Waves at fellow TWW thread members

Well, I have just POAS (clear blue digital) and it seems that I am indeed pregnant!!! Any room for a late comer to this party? By my calculation I just squeeze in as my estimated due date is 25 November 2012!

Yikes. Shock Still don't quite believe it as DH and I only decided to start TTC in January and for various reasons only managed to DTD once in my last cycle. All I can say is that TWW thread was one lucky thread!

I have promised DH not to tell anyone just yet, but MN is not just anyone Grin

Is anyone else on this thread expecting number 2? The thought of a new born and a 25 month old is beginning to freak me out a bit!

DesperateHousewife21 · 17/03/2012 12:06

Welcome confused and congrats!! So glad we've got more people coming over from the tww thread Grin
