right... so what is [are] the next step[s]?

when shall i see my Dr?
shall i call the midwife at local hospital?
when do i choose a hospital?

its really weird, its not even like i can ask ppl in RL what to do, its driving me crazy.

its like i have two hospitals close to me and 2 SILs each having chosen different ones, but i cant ask them about their experience, or why they chose one over the other

TheDetective · 26/02/2012 23:49

Well for me there is a couple of choices of hospital, but it doesn't matter to me as I am planning a homebirth. So I will just book with my local hospital as I will be seeing the midwives from there. Makes sense to me. Also I don't want to book where I work which is my other local hospital!

I am intending to book directly with the midwife. I checked on my surgerys website and they have a booking number for direct midwifery care. I don't need or want to see the GP, as I will get what I need with the midwives - plus I want to give them the heads up on my plans. I'm choosing to homebirth knowingly against obstetric advice. I want to get them on my side. If I don't, I may consider an independent midwife, but I'd rather not unless I have big problems.

So I'm going to book an appointment with the midwife for the week of 5th March, as I am off work that week. We shall see what happens!

As for choosing where to book, take a look at the website hospital statistics and also look at the individual hospitals websites for more information on the services offered, and things that matter to you - such as visiting hours, facilities, etc.

I'm already thinking of names! Have a long list Grin

Hi ladies... Can I join too?!

Got my BFP last Tues and EDD is 1st November! It was my first month of TTC so am quite shocked but extremely happy and excited!

I've been having AF type cramps since the day I did the test, has anyone else felt like this? It's my first pregnancy so all new to me!

GTbaby · 27/02/2012 13:09

Quick post during (healthy) lunch.

Woke up half hour earlier to have breakfast today. Normally skip breakfast My lil fraggle is already changing my life!

I too had been having af like cramps. %231 for me to. So hope it's normal. But my boobs hurt SO bad! Need a sleep bra I think.

Belgrano · 27/02/2012 14:38

Hi ladies
Can I join? BFP last week. Due Nov 1st or possibly Oct 31st but its my 3rd and the other two were very late so there's no chance this is going to be an October twiglet.
Very excited. Hello to all of you and congrats!

cherryjam · 27/02/2012 16:43

Hello everyone!

My tummy feels massive already, I guess it's just the beginning! Keep testing each morning to make sure line is getting darker - anybody else doing the same?
Just feeling a bit paranoid...

wifey6 · 27/02/2012 16:52

Hi cherryjam....I did 8 cheapy strip tests & a digi test last Thursday & have done another strip test since. Blush

LittleLolly · 27/02/2012 17:01

Well I have to confess... I have just done another test to make sure the line is darker.. And it is haha. But I've only done 3 in total so I think that's not too bad!!

My boobs are soooo sore today and (tmi alert) my nipples are huge! Has anyone else noticed this? My boobs are hurting just by running down the stairs, am having to hold on to them! Blush

GTbaby my extensive googling has told me that the cramps we are feeling are normal so I'm trying to relax. That first scan just seems so far away. I just want everything to be ok and wish I don't feel so anxious and paranoid about every feeling! Does it get easier as time goes on?

wifey6 · 27/02/2012 17:03

Speaking of cramps...I had these when pregnant with my DS...but I am also getting a pain sometimes above my belly button- anyone getting that...or know if that's 'normal'. I don't remember it with my DS.

tomatoplantproject · 27/02/2012 18:56

Hello to all the newbies Grin

I'm still getting a lot of cramps which are very painful, but I've now had a chat to my mum and she thinks she had the same. She's transcribing my granny's diary at the moment and thinks granny was also bright down, which is making me feel a lot better. Crikey though - if embedding pains are this sore how on earth am I going to get through the next few months? Am going back to the hospital tomorrow to check blood levels and they said they want to monitor me in case it is an ectopic pregnancy. I'm still really nervous but fingers and toes crossed it will be ok.

I want to be able to start sharing the excitement with the rest of you guys!

TheDetective · 27/02/2012 19:25

CherryJam Um, nope, you are not alone! I've done a test every day since the 24th! And yes, the lines are getting a little darker each time!!

I'm already tired, so so tired, and a massive increase in appetite. I remember this from 10 years ago, was exactly the same for the first 2 weeks until the sickness kicked in! I worked an early shift today, and usually I don't have breakfast, sometimes have a piece of toast mid morning, but can regularly go all day til 4pm without eating.

Today I have eaten a bacon butty before even leaving for work, a cheese and tomato toastie by 10am, and chips at 2pm, am now sat here while DP cooks a curry, which we have rice, naan and poppadoms to go with.

Shit. The carbs. Do I care....? Ummmm!!

Its insane how early things alter huh?!

Soon as tea has been scoffed, I think I want my bed!

I'm unreasonably annoyed today, as I decided to book an appointment with the midwife for 2 weeks time, and the receptionist wouldn't let me book because I hadn't seen the GP. Even when I told her, look I'm a midwife, I know I don't need to see a GP to access maternity care, she still wouldn't do anything. I'm going to write a letter of complaint and put a copy of the information regarding direct access to a midwife. Idiots. It really winds me up things like this. Why exactly do I need to see a GP? Honestly.... its all about money.

How is everyone else getting on today?!

TheDetective · 27/02/2012 19:48

Oh, I forgot to add, someone asked me if I was pregnant when I was moaning about just how hungry I was! I was like no, of course not!! Blush

GTbaby · 27/02/2012 20:14

well, i have been good.

i have put on quite a bit of weight over the last 6 months, so got thinking today i'm very disappointed i wont see my tummy growing 'properly' for a while as it will just be hidden behind all the fat!

But i'm determined i'm going to resist the urge to 'eat for two' and try and be healthy with what i eat. FAMOUS LAST words lol you can all make me eat my hat when i cave and tell you about all the ice cream i eat.

ive moved recently and have not registered at local GP, so thats my job tomorow and will get an appointment for next week.

my boobs hurt, i want to have a shower but the thought of taking my bra off is horrible :(

looked at a few night tops with support but they are expensive, got to go shopping this weekend ;)

cherryjam · 27/02/2012 20:18

Wifey6 - Glad it isn't just me - I've got 4 more tests, then may (!) stop...!

Hope you are ok tomatoplantproject - how long until you may be able to get more info?

Thedetective - that food sounds amazing.!..I was on a diet trying to lose my previous baby weight - I know dieting is a no-no when pregnant but is it still possible to lose weight when pregnant? During my previous one I had a normal BMI, now it is a bit high.
I would really love a homebirth too, but just don't think it'll be possible unfortunately. Last birth was EMCS (not in labour) - I've never even had a contraction!

Any more lovely symptoms today anyone?!

GTbaby · 27/02/2012 20:36

just bought two jojo sleep bras. not expensive either looking forward to getting them.

Little9 · 27/02/2012 21:04

Hello and congrats to all the newbies. Been having a few cramps the last few days but think some of it is wind!!! Blush Feeling very tired by evening time and keep falling asleep in front of the tv! No other symptoms so far, apart from wanting to eat all the contents of the fridge in one go. Resist, resist!!!

howiwonder · 27/02/2012 21:48

Hi Ladies
can i join you - has taken me ages to find this thread, thought there must be one!

Got my BFP last week and reckon I have a 1st nov due date, just from looking on those online due date calculators (its hard to say exactly as my cycles pretty irregular). Got a GP appt on Thurs.

Have a 2 year DS and so delighted with our news. Puts all those everyday moans and worries into perspective doesnt it?! I've been so cheerful the past few days people will wonder whats up with me!

I'm thinking homebirth too, wanted one 1st time round but family talked me out of it so I reckon this is my chance

wellieboots · 28/02/2012 11:11

Hello ladies, mind if I join you?

Bit nervous and freaked out - got BFP yesterday, due either 31 Oct or 1 Nov depending on which calculator you believe. TTC#1 since Apr 10, 1 mmc discovered at 12 week scan in Dec 10, recovery took a while and started ttc again Feb last year so it was lucky cycle 13 for us, hope that's not a bad omen. I don't have many symptoms but I am hopefully getting a doc's appointment for a bit of reassurance.

lovely to meet you all, I am staying in a bit of denial for now in case it goes wrong again but I will be around now and again and I wish you all the very best of luck!

cherryjam · 28/02/2012 11:17

Congratulations howiwonder and wellieboots! Wellie - fingers crossed for you - you must be thrilled but cautious. It's all very early isn't it? Told parents but not not anyone else so writing about it is a bit strange!

Off to GP on Friday to choose hosp - am preparing for a fight as sometimes they can be very difficult!

Belgrano · 28/02/2012 12:23

Good luck cherryjam, I don't see GP, it's funny how it's different in different areas isn't it?
I can't stop eating - especially Frazzles. Hmm, I will be the size of a bus soon. I had to go and buy some new looser jeans (New Look - £10) yesterday as I appear not to fit into my normal jeans already. Slightly concerned about that! Anyone else expanding early?

HelloBear · 28/02/2012 14:19

Hello ladies and congrats to the new Nov 12 members.

Well I was naughty today, was in mothercare looking for something for my DD and I noticed they had maternity swimwear on sale, well we have a holiday booked in the summer and my dreams of wearing a nice bikini have gone out of the window so.... Yep I bought one but it was reduced from £25 to £7 so I just could NOT miss out on the bargain. Insane I know at only 4 weeks. Won't tell DH.
