Hi Bunnygirl, welcome and congratulations! I'm a first timer too! Got my scan in a week and have those same feelings of excitment and fear! When are you due? I'm around the London area and going to Kingston Hospital, where are you?

trix1 · 07/02/2006 12:22

Welcome Bunny, When in August are you due - do you know yet?

BunnyGirl · 07/02/2006 12:30

Hello! I don't have a proper due date Trix but figured it would be around mid-August (having sat and counted through my diary!). I'm hoping that, all being well with my scan on thursday, that they'll tell me!
I'm just outside London, Strike1 - Ascot-way but I know Kingston from when two friends had their's there and had very good experiences.
I feel a bit of a fraud telling family I'm pregnant coz I've got nothing to show (apart from much bigger boobs! which they've all noticed, cheeky so and sos!). When do bumps appear?!...I've had the sickness, headaches, mood-swings etc and now I would like something to show for it all!

olivo · 07/02/2006 12:44

Hi bunnygirl, and congratulations and welcome!! . I'm a first-timer too!

A bit confused as seem to be getting conflicting advice - just staggered to the pharmacy to be told that I shouldnt have lozenges, and should only take paracetamol under my doctor's supervision!! I wish someone wuld just put out a universal decree on what is ok and what's not!! ( maybe not, they might make me feel guilty about pickled onion monster munch!!I'm obssessed!! )

snic · 07/02/2006 12:51

hi all, i havent posted for a while, was starting to think i was imagining being pregnant apart from being tired i had no other symptoms. anyway had first scan yesterday and now i am totally convinced, new date is now 25th august

trix1 · 07/02/2006 13:02

Great news Snic.

Has anyone else had people say about the fact that if the baby is born in August it will be one of the youngest starting school and if baby is late and is born in September he/she will be one of the oldest starting school a year later. Loads of people have been mentioning this to me, I was just so delighted to be pregnant I had not given this any thought - does it really matter?

olivo · 07/02/2006 13:08

Nice one snic!

Trix, I've had that said as well, but I'm not sure how much it matters. I'm a teacher and although it can be noticeable that a child is young in the year group, IMO, it's not necessarily so! I know stacks of people with August birthdays and it hasnt made any difference to them.

BigHotMama · 07/02/2006 13:16

Congratulations Bunnygirl, its my 1st baby too. I am 14+1 and my belly seems huge but I always had a bit of belly but used to hold it in but cant do that anymore cuz it doesnt feel right so now I'm just sticking it out instead and everyone at work keeps saying you can really tell, I've bought some maternity clothes and boy are they comfy, I might start wearing them all the time .
I think we all go through the same worries that there may not be anything inside of our belly's as I did yesterday until I heard the heartbeat and then I thought to myself thank god its still there, I kept my pg tests and still feel the need to look at them most days just to make sure it wasnt a dream ha!
Snic you've been lucky like me, all I've had is the tiredness and few hormonal moments, no headaches or sickness, so you start to wonder if something's wrong because your not going through the sickness thing like everyone else seems to be going through.
Has anybody got any nicknames for their little bump to be? We started calling ours little baked bean at first but i think its grown since then so am now trying to think of new name for him/her??!

snic · 07/02/2006 13:26

i do feel really lucky not to have had any sickness (and quite guilty sometimes when reading what everyone else is going through). lots of people have said to me about being youngest in school year, doesn't bother me too much, surely that means we have them at home with us for longer?

BigHotMama · 07/02/2006 13:46

Somebody at work has mentioned that to me too and I hadn't given it a thought to be honest. He said they might get picked on due to being the youngest or may not be as forward as the older ones but thats a load of BS as my best friend was born in August and she was one of the clever ones at school and also her 4 year old daughter is an august baby, she was walking at 9 months and talking really well at an early age.
Why have people always got to put a dampner on things eh?
Look at this way, when we have our babies in August, we will be able to take them on nice long walks in the sunshine, their birthday parties can be held outside in the garden because the weather is guaranteed...and we get to have our maternity leave in the nice weather ..now what more could we ask for?

(I must stop writing such big posts!)

CHEEPS · 07/02/2006 13:47

Hi All!
Thought i'd post and let you all know i had my 13 week scan up at Kings yesterday, and everything is fine! horay!! i really feel i can lighten up now and enjoy as i have got over my sickness (touch wood) still as tired as ever but thats a great exuse not to do the housework when i get home from work! scan was fab and pictures were brill.I hope everyones elses are as good!

eve2005 · 07/02/2006 13:58

i'm so jealous, everyone has a due date but me! i was still breastfeeding when i got pregnant and hadn't had a period yet. i have no idea when i'm due!
gp thinks i'm somewhere between 11 and 16 weeks which isnt helpful and the hospital isnt booking me in til 29 march....... arggghhhhhh!

trix1 · 07/02/2006 14:03

Oh Eve - thats really a long time to wait, say if you are 16 weeks that means you will be 23 weeks at the time of your scan. I would insist on a scan asap. If you are 11 weeks you should have a 12 week scan in the next week. Have you got a midwife you could speak to about this?

Great news on the scan Cheeps.

BHM - I agree about all the lovely things about having an August baby, Im planning the bday parties now in the garden, ds is a Feb baby so we always have to book somewhere for him due to the weather. I can just imagine the lovelly garden parties that we can have in August.

BunnyGirl · 07/02/2006 14:05

That's fantastic news Cheeps! You must be sooo relieved! Am still waiting anxiously for mine on thursday but hope it'll be ok.
I think we're all really lucky to be having August babies - think of the fab birthday parties (too right BigHotMama!). I'm a february birthday-person and use to hate having parties in deepest winter becuase you couldn't do as many fun things. Even now as an adult, I hate having a winter birthday!
I don't think being the oldest or youngest in the school year really matters either, as long as they are happy and healthy they should get along fine.

BunnyGirl · 07/02/2006 14:07

Hi Eve - I don't have a due date yet either! I've got my first scan on thursday so hope to find out then. But I figured I'm around 13 weeks....

eve2005 · 07/02/2006 14:18

have to bring daughter to gp for her mmr this week so will have a chat with him then.

i live in galway and the hospital here doesn't do the 12 week scan, booking in is between 16 and 20 weeks but even so that appointment is late. only got the letter yesterday and i'm fuming, especially as i wasn't expecting to get pregnant so quickly and was still bf, am worried as i wasn't taking folic acid and have a history of spina bifida in my family.

eve2005 · 07/02/2006 14:20

hey bunnygirl, you must be itching to see baby, is it your first? how have you beeen feeling? i've been lucky this time, not as sick as with first, think its because i have breakfast with her every morning which i never did first time round

trix1 · 07/02/2006 14:21

Eve - my family are from Galway.

eve2005 · 07/02/2006 14:24

cool, whereabouts? you still in ireland?

trix1 · 07/02/2006 14:27

No, although I did live in Galway for a while when I was younger I am in the Midlands now in England. Where in Galway are you?

BunnyGirl · 07/02/2006 14:29

Hi Eve - it is my first, feel much better now that I did between week 6 and week 10!! Someone said to me that breakfast was really important to ease nausea and its true - I used just to grab a slice of toast as I ran to catch the train but I started getting up earlier to sit and eat properly. It did help! (but not cure it)
I found the MorningWell cd of weird music actually helped the best - bizzare but true...

BigHotMama · 07/02/2006 14:38

Hey Trix I'm living in the Midlands in the heart of the black country a place called Tipton..where are you?

Congrats Eve, have you told your GP about your worries, surely they should allow a scan because of your past history etc? Turn on the waterworks girl, it normally works a treat!

eve2005 · 07/02/2006 14:40

living in knocknacarra, just outside city centre. love it here but wish i knew a few other moms in the area to talk to, only moved here a year before having daughter and didn't really know alot of people.

eve2005 · 07/02/2006 14:43

am planning on it BHM! gp is lovely so i'm sure he'll help. with my first pregnancy the test came up neg even though i was sure i was pregnant and instead of calling me crazy he was very supportive and sent me for a scan the next day, and guess what, i was right!

trix1 · 07/02/2006 14:49

BHM - Im in Solihull - just up the road. Eve - my family are mostly around Kilkerrin which I suppose is good way from where you are.

I do love Galway though.
