2nd trimester woo hoo! 13+1, +6lb and two cup sizes.

Got some disgustingly unsexy maternity jeans from Top Shop today and packed all my nice ones away until I can hopefully fit into them again

Arabica · 05/02/2006 19:44

14 + 4, plus 13lbs, 1 cup size and 1 back size!!

Nbg · 05/02/2006 20:25

Arabica, it didn't effect me at all last time round. Midwifes told me to expect alot of breathlessness later on but nothing.

Have you all been getting measured then?

My boobs are definatley bigger was a 38DD last time round so lord knows what will happen this time.

lunavix · 05/02/2006 20:48

I'm still okay size wise! 34DD and about 9st9 (have lost 2lb short of a stone since becoming pg!)

oh and I'm 11+1 today (happy 11 weeks to you too olivo )

Can't wait to have a bump. I've start spotting again too so just want proof everythings still okay.

Micku5 · 06/02/2006 09:40

Hi.. I was wondering if I could join this thread.

I was on the 'We want to fall by fall' and 'Due September 2006' thread but after an internal scan on thursday at 6 weeks it turns out I was actually 10 weeks pg and my new EDD is 31/8.

Nbg · 06/02/2006 10:13

Oh wow!

Congratulations Micku

What a lovely suprise for you.

Welcome Micku and congratulations!

How is everyone? Still feeling awful luna? I've come down with a really heavy cold so am feeling miserable and sorry for myself - can't breathe and still feeling sick!!

Down to only one pair of trousers that i can fit into, even though I have still lost weight! how does that work?

Nbg · 06/02/2006 10:56

You have my sympathies Olivo. Mine went after 2 days so it wasn't too bad. DD still has it though. Just wish she'd let me blow her nose properly!

I hope you and Luna get rid of this crappy sickness soon.

Micku5 · 06/02/2006 11:00

Thanks.... it was a surprise. At least it explains why I was beginning to show and clothes were tight. I had to dig put my maternity clothes over the weekend.

I showed the scan pics to dd (2.5 yrs) but she wasn't too impressed she wants to be mummy's baby.

Arabica · 06/02/2006 12:23

Congratulations Micku5! Hope your DD gets more enthusiastic about being a big sister over the next few months. My DS (5 in April) is really into the idea of having a baby sibling and has all sorts of plans for it (when it's born it can sleep in my bed, mummy, and when it wants mummy milk it can walk to your bed)

BigHotMama · 06/02/2006 12:44

Morning ladies, Congrats & welcome to Micku5.
I've just been to my 1st midwife app of the day (got 2nd later on) and have decided not to go ahead with the tests for Downs/Spina Bifida. I told them if there was a high risk I wouldnt go ahead with the amnio test as I am prepared to go all the way with the pregnancy and knowing the risks wouldnt change my mind anyhow. Had some blood tests done (scary thinking they are testing for things like HIV etc). Also got info packs on BF and antenatal classes, they even do a grandparent class ha and do tours around the maternity wards. I've also enquired about birthing pools at the hospital, does anybody know of anyone who had a waterbirth? Need to get me more info on this.

14 weeks today - +4lb & feeling great!
(sorry to hear some of you still feeling sicky or fluey)

Am hoping to get my sudden burst of energy this week?...

Arabica · 06/02/2006 14:23

BHM, I know two people who have had waterbirths (one at home, one in hospital) and had very positive experiences.

Nbg · 06/02/2006 14:29

Just had a letter through the post from the Dr I saw at the hospital.

He said I'm going to have to do extra urine tests at the gp's at 24 and 34 weeks because of my previous kidney abnormality.

Do you think I could get away with doing this with the midwife rather than having to make extra gp appts? Seems a bit of a faff when I'll already be providing urine samples at every midwife visit anyway.

BigHotMama · 06/02/2006 15:23

Thanks Arabica, I will find out more on the pro's and con's. Seems like a great way to give birth or even start the labour process to ease the pain a little.
Just been to my 2nd midwife app. and she said I should've been told to cancel the hospital app. I went to earlier but as they didnt check my BP, urine sample or detect the baby's HB it's a good job I had the 2 appointments. I heard the baby's little heartbeat and it was beating really fast..at first they couldnt find it as if the baby was playing hide n seek.
Not going back to work though will have to make an excuse about there being a packed waiting room or something!

NBG why dont you ring and ask them as it seems bit daft you doing double samples? Good luck!

Nbg · 06/02/2006 15:38

Lovely to hear your babies heartbeat isn't it. Don't go back to work have the day off!!

I don't know who to contact tbh. Don't want to call the midwife as it's not that important and I'll see her in a couple of weeks anyway.
Just been chatting to dh on the phone and he's told me to ring anyway as I'm having problems with my sciatic nerve. I'm getting an awful pain in my bum and leg and because I had physio in my last pg the midwife said shewould refer me straight away if I had probs again.

Arabica · 06/02/2006 16:16

NBG, sciatic pain is ghastly, hope they can sort you out. I get this (not pg related) and have found alternating cold pack (bag of frozen peas) with warmth (hot water bottle) every 30 mins or so is very helpful.

olivo · 06/02/2006 16:19

I've been getting sciatica too nbg - didnt realise there was anything you could do about it - will ask when I go to the hospital next week. I would phone your mw about the urine samples - they wont mind, I'm sure.

Still feeling rough ( moan, moan, moan, -sorry!! ) but have come home to comfort myself with plenty of pickled onion monster munch. not sure they're the best cure for swollen glands and a snotty nose but...

Strike1 · 06/02/2006 17:39

Ohhhh I'm with on the pickled Onion Monster Munch Olivo...well all crisps really, I'm obsessed! Not so good for the healthy eating plan, but they leave me feeling well enough to eat some healthy stuff afterwards. Sciatic pain is the worst, but I find gental exercise like yoga actually helps. My old yoga teacher was very good at giving the right exercises for the problem. Does anyone know if you can do normal yoga classes after 12 weeks, or does it have to be pg yoga? As long as you tell the teacher of course.

Still feeling a bit rough, mostly headaches. 11 +4. 1 week today till my first proper scan, but I then have to wait another 2 weeks to see the midwife for the first time!

kitegirl · 07/02/2006 08:20

Nbg you have given me your cold . poor you and your sciatica, I had that towards the end of last pregnancy and it was hell (ds was lying on a nerve and could not walk for pain). I went to see an acupuncturist and he cured it in one sitting. hope you get help for it.

Ds was up all night just for the hell of it and is now cranky and tired, as am I, and I just want to go to bed for the day. When is the supposed amazing burst of energy going to appear? I'm waiting! I have a million chores reserved just for that!!

BigHotMama · 07/02/2006 09:11

Morning all, I'm still waiting too Kitegirl for this 'burst of energy', when I told the midwife I'd read this in my book she smiled and said she doesnt hear of many pg women who get energised? So, I'm resigning myself to the fact I'll be falling asleep early every night, my hubby has the TV on till late in the bedroom and I am starting to get really irritated by him! Mind you he does tell me off for snoring so I suppose he's getting his own back on me ha!

olivo · 07/02/2006 09:19

Morning everyone! so, Are you sayng I shouldn't hold my breath for a burst of energy? I too was counting on that to get the chores done!

Have had to take the day off work today - I hadn't realised how much I usually rely on stuff like night nurse and decongestants when I have a cold normally! I'm soooo bunged up! Keep worrying that I'm going to sneeze or blow the baby out - my stomach muscles are killing me!

only 3 days till my scan - getting nervous!

trix1 · 07/02/2006 10:36

Try and not be nervous about your scan Olivio.

I too had sciatica for the last couple of months of pregnancy when ds was lying on a nerve and I tried everything to get rid of it and nothing worked until I went to for accupunture and it worked after the first session so although very expensive £40.00 for half an hour it was money well spent, I just hope I dont get it this time round.

I went back to the doctors yesterday because of my headaches (due to the progesterone tablets) and she signed me off work for two weeks, I could tell my manager was not happy when I phoned him. Yet they now about the previous m/c I thought he would have been ok, but no, never mind I have more important things to worry about.

I find that I sleep about 10 hours each night and a couple of hours in the afternoon

I am 13 weeks today and really hope that I get some more energy soon.

Arabica · 07/02/2006 10:55

Strike1, depends on the type of yoga you're doing, the studio where I do yoga only has a few classes open to pregnant women, as many poses are thought to be unsuitable or need to be modified and I think the teachers have to have done a special pg training. Iyengar doesn't think pg women should be doing yoga, apparently!

BunnyGirl · 07/02/2006 12:11

Hello everyone! I'm new to this - Nbg kindly suggested I join coz I'm due in August with first baby.
Got my first scan on thursday, so I sympathise with you Oilvio, I'm really nervous! Especially after a 'friend' told me there's always a chance there's nothing there...I hope there is! I had about 8 weeks of sickness (but touch wood, haven't had any for the past week now - hurrah!)
I've been struggling for energy too Trix1. I could sleep all day if I didn't have to trek in and out of London every day to work.
Hope everyone's ok. There are some horrible bugs around and I work with students who seem to be harbouring an awful lot of illnesses...
