I know freddysays, I can't believe how many bugaboos there are around here (Stoke Newington, N London). There's no way I could afford to spend £500 on a buggy! I do think it's worth getting a decent one, however, especially if you are prone to back ache and/or would like to be able to push with one hand. We had a cheapo 3 wheeler (£75 new in 2001) and it was really hard to fold, took up too much space, had no room for shopping and DS grew out of it really quickly. It was smooth to push and a nice bright red but that's about it. Then bought cheap Mothercare umbrella stroller which knackered my back. This time around I want a Quinny Buzz as it's easy to fold. However no way am I buying anything until baby is safely here as I am too paranoid!

BHM, to answer your question, what I miss about pre-parenthood is spontaneous nights out with friends/hours spent browsing around bookshops/having firm boobs and no tummy/having spare cash. The best bits are my relationship with DS which makes all the above worthwhile (although sometimes more so than others).

kitegirl · 03/02/2006 18:23

hellooooo....
had a nuchal scan today, was so worried that there would be something wrong, what with the luck we've had recently, but all is good, 1 in 3300 risk which is brilliant! So relieved, phew.

I asked what the earliest has been that he's been able to tell the sex and he said, can you believe it, that he could tell me with 70% certainty right there. Of course I made him tell us - he thinks that based on the angle of the genitalia it's a boy. A boy!! I have one already! I give up - it's 20 years of smelly sports equipment and mess now. I've been outnumbered.

And, I am 6 days further along that I thought I was, now 12+6 and new due date 12/8 (I'll race you Nbg!!)

Off to have dinner with my girlfriends, might even treat myself to a glass of wine now. Hope you all have good weekends xxx

Nbg · 03/02/2006 18:40

OMG KITEGIRL!!!!! (Girly screams)

A boy a boy a boy!

I can't believe they told you!!!

Omg!

Thats soooo lovely

That will be 2 snowboarding champions in the family then

and your on for that race

trix1 · 03/02/2006 18:56

Kitegirl - I cannot beleive they could tell you so early - fantastic. can you sort of tell from the scan pictures I am going to go and analyse mine now.

The thing I missed the most when ds was born was being able to do nothing, also being able to make last minute decisions to do something. The first 12 - 18 months is hard but for me its just got easier and easier the best is having a fantastic little boy who is so adorable (if cheeky)

Arabica · 03/02/2006 19:31

Am amazed they could see it! Incredible.

saralou100 · 03/02/2006 19:51

to all you rhesus negative future mummy's out their who are unsure about this anti-d thing!!

anti-d mops up any red blood cells left behind from a rhesus positive baby, which could cause problems in your future pregnancy's... your next baby could be attacked by special anti bodies you make causing them to become anaemic, this could in turn cause other health problems for the baby...
and yes, it does hurt!!

lunavix · 03/02/2006 20:47

Hi everyone! well done babylily and also kitegirl, can't believe they can tell so early.

I'm feeling so peeved today and I've been an arms reach from making a phonecall to the doctors and shouting... I was telling a friend (an everyday kind-of friend as in I see her lots!) about the morning sickness pills, and it turns out our other close friend's SIL who was due the same time as me has lost her baby, and it's been put down to these drugs. I'm gobsmacked. They were apparently not going to tell me because they didn't think I'd want to know about people mcing but the minute I mentioned the pills she told me.

I can't believe it. I've only taken four thank god, but I'm in total shock. So now today I've thrown up 7 times and am sitting feeling sick but I am NOT touching them again.

Argh.

Anyways, I've bought a ton of maternity clothes (even though I'm not optimistic till my scan weds) and we'll probably start buying bits around 4/5 months or when there's a sale. I need a new double buggy and two new single ones... dh is having a fit!

Act, out of interest, what buggies came out bottom? And what about doubles?

Nbg · 03/02/2006 21:00

Oh Lunavix, how crap!

Fingers crossed this sickness will pass naturally very soon for you.

kitegirl · 04/02/2006 05:53

oh poor you lunavix. you must feel absolutely miserable, how crap, but chucking out the drugs is probably the right thing to do. Have you tried homeopathy or acupuncture? I've had acupuncture whenever there's been something wrong with me and it's always worked immediately, the crazy chinese doctor completely cured my sciatica when I was last pregnant and my tosser ex-h's IBS ages ago when nothing else worked.

Re - telling the sex, I have no idea how he could tell, he was looking at the bones where the girl/boy bits are going to be formed, I couldn't see anything myself. I can't think of any boy names, I had my girl name ready. I'll be coming to you all for help later!

olivo · 04/02/2006 11:38

lunavix, sorry to hear that, I also think you're right to ditch the tablets. I know you've probably tried lots of stuff but have you tried the Avent sleep-easy essence - can be used on your pillow at night and on a hanky or whatever during the day. I've just bought some today as I'm still struggling early mornings and later in the evenings - not actually being sick, just nausea and dry-retching!! Might be worth a try. By the way, happy 11 weeks!!

my scan date has arrived, after all my worrying, but dh is out and made me promise not to open it till he comes back - I keep wondering if i can steam it open!

Had a sneaky look at some things in boots today but restraining myself for a while!

hope you all have a good weekend.

olivo · 04/02/2006 14:39

Hurray! My scan is on Friday afternoon, and also now got a mw appt the next monday afternoon (work are going to love me ). Quite excited now!!

Nbg · 04/02/2006 14:40

Nice long weekend for you then Olivo

pucca · 05/02/2006 08:25

I finally managed to pick up the heartbeat with my doppler last night only managed to listen to it for about 3 seconds as found it then little bu**er darted off lol.

How is everyone feeling? I am actually feeling quite good now, sickness seems to have gone (touch wood!!) but i can't bring myself to take of my sickness bands yet (don't want to jinx myself lol)

trix1 · 05/02/2006 10:37

Good morning, Pucca you should find it easier as the days go by to pick up the heartbeat. Im starting to feel a bit better, Ive read that by 14 weeks you tend to be over the sickness and tiredness so just 10 days to go.

Im excited to be going into the second triemster on Tuesday - yipee

I have a day of house work planned today, so I need to get of the computer and get started - its such a mission.

olivo · 05/02/2006 11:14

Hi everyone! Glad to hear that people are feeling better - gives me hope as I approach 12 wks! still feel quite nauseaous mornings and evenings but not as bad as some so I cant complain! I have a friend who is due in April and is still really feeling under the weather.

Having a 'smug' morning today as dh has a hangover - normally I'd be joining him!!

mistressmiggins · 05/02/2006 11:24

hi Trix1

only just seen you on this thread

so pleased for you

xx

Nbg · 05/02/2006 12:46

Woohoo

13 weeks today

Hello 2nd Trimester!

Pucca, you may find you might start to feel movements in 3/4 weeks so the doppler will be alot easier to use.

I've got my next midwife appt in 2 weeks so I'm looking forward to hearing it again and for a bit longer

Nbg · 05/02/2006 13:26

Oh and I really want to eat Crunchy Nut Cornflakes but the damn things have peanuts in!

Grrrrrrrr

trix1 · 05/02/2006 14:52

MistressM - Many thanks (MSN me if you fancy a chat)

NBG - I read recently that unless you have an alergy to peanusts of dp has then its ok to eat peanuts in pregnancy, has anyone else seen that?

Nbg · 05/02/2006 14:53

Well I'm asthmatic and I think the general advice is to stay away just to be sure.

olivo · 05/02/2006 15:24

trix - I have read that somewhere too, but like nbg, I'm steering clear, as both me and dh are asthmatic and I also have lots of other allergies (though not nuts). Intend to ask mw about it when I see her though, as I'm hanging for peanut butter on toast!!!

Nbg · 05/02/2006 15:27

You can have every other nut going just not Peanuts.

Dh tormented me with them when I was pg with dd and I thought that if I ever came pg again I wouldn't be so uptight about food.

Ha!

One of the mums at playgroup has a ds who's allergic to nuts and the reaction he has from them is frightning. If someone eats them and touches him it can be fatal.

Arabica · 05/02/2006 19:23

Here's advice about eating peanuts . I have asthma too but don't like peanuts, so making DS' favourite peanut butter-topped toast is not at all tempting!

Arabica · 05/02/2006 19:25

Other asthmatics, did being pg affect your asthma last time around? I seemed to have lots of extra hospital appts when pg with DS but this time around they don't seem interested!
