Not yet Boopert - but had it really bad last time when pregnant with ds did not get it til about six months. The only thing that eased the pain was accupuncture.

BigHotMama · 03/03/2006 09:09

Morning everyone, hope your all well. Welcome and congrats to Sheona, I've just counted 34 august ladies on our list now, could it be a record?
I'm not actually sure what sciatica is or feels like? Is it an all over thing or just pain in certain places?
I've been having an achy bump a few times but just put that down to growing pains / stretching skin etc.
Can anyone tell me is it safe to eat Philadelphia cheese? Had some yesterday and halfway through scoffing somebody said I shouldnt be eating soft cheese? I thought it was only the blue-vein/mouldy types?? Shock

trix1 · 03/03/2006 09:21

Good Morning all, BHM, Sciatica is a shooting pain that goes down through your bum into your leg, it affects your walking and general mobility. horrible pain. i would have thought Philadelphia cheese was ok though.

34 of us wow and ive just been thinking that we are now hurtling toward the half way line.

melsy · 03/03/2006 09:28

Wow 34 of us !! & i was told April & September were the busy months for having babys !!! Im finding it hard it keep up with you all !! Sorry if I dont get to acknowledge everyone!

Hello PF2 & sheona.

17 weeks now , getting near to countdown the other way soon !!

eve2005 · 03/03/2006 09:29

hey boopert, you're not the only one, i have sciatica even when i'm not pregnant and it's already starting to give me serious grief, woke up in agony yesterday and had to kick poor dp out of bed to get dd up as carrying her when it's bad has me in pieces.

doctors over here don't do much to help you though, was told last time that there was no point refering me when i was preg as it wasn't preg related, they'd be able to help more when i was at my normal weight again, got preg before i got around to having it properly checked out though!

BHM- sciatica is really sharp pain in the lower back and down into your hips and bum. feels like your nerves are on fire. well thats what it's like for me anyway.

jayjaybaby · 03/03/2006 09:34

philadelphia is fine bhm ive been on there web site as i had same conversation with dh is anyone trying to find work and hitting a brick wall constantly this is seriously getting me down

trix1 · 03/03/2006 09:39

Jayjay - Are you getting interviews but not getting the job as you are pregnant or jut not getting interviews?

jayjaybaby · 03/03/2006 09:44

both and its doing my head in and im getting quite depressed to be honest have never ever being out of work b4 have been turned down by two mini market stores and five hairdressers letters along the lines of you are currently not what we are looking for or my personal favourite you are unable to perform tasks to a suitable level this after i was asked if i could lift a 4 pack of lemade bottles id answered im sure with the correct lifting training and a risk assessment im sure they would be no problem Angry and Sad

eve2005 · 03/03/2006 09:48

that sucks jay jay, same thing happened to me with dd1, got pregnant right at the end of college and never did manage to get a job. the boredom is the killer.

jayjaybaby · 03/03/2006 09:59

thank god for mn or i'd have gone mad but its the whole now im not working do i want to go back to work to make the whole do i stay on part time or full time after as a hairdresser you dont make loads would cost me more than working due to crap wages

trix1 · 03/03/2006 10:06

Jayjay what about temp work.

I suppose they see you are pregnant and think they dont want the expence of having to pay maternity leave so dont employ you. Its not supposed to happen but Im sure it does. Where abouts are you?

Nbg · 03/03/2006 10:11

Welcome Sheona Smile

34 has to be a record surely!

Boopert, have been suffering with sciatica for the last few weeks now. I had physio in my last pg and when I was at the midwife last week, she referred me again so I go next Wednesday.
It is awful pain, I find it gets me when I've been stood too long or sat uncomfortably but either way it's painful and makes you walk like something out of the circus, lol!

I heard from Kitegirl last night and she is fine but busy as it is her ds's birthday tomorrow, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Grin

PurpleT, how is your mum doing?

kitegirl · 03/03/2006 12:16

hi everyone - wow, only left it for 3 days and there are 300 new posts and more new members... hope everyone is feeling ok. I am still knackered ALL THE TIME and getting awful headaches. Trying to feel the baby move all the time and getting paranoid when I don't feel anything for a couple of days. That's motherhood for you... Smile

just been to my yoga class and all this talk about labour and birth is making me a bit edgy! In one way I am looking forward to it but still nervous (because I fundamentally don't trust the NHS). I have decided to give VBAC a go though, because the yoga is sooooo good, we did these amazing breathing exercises today with sort of humming/chanting that are supposed to help you labour. That and all manner of drugs of course Grin.

DH has been in the US all week so I've had to deal with ds's early morning meltdowns on my own. Plus my mum, dad and sister are arriving from Finland for the weekend IN TWO HOURS, it's ds's 2nd birthday tomorrow. I am breaking out in hives as we speak, in anticipation of the running commentary that is going to grind me until Sunday evening when they finally leave. (I am an avid participant in all 'toxic mothers & families' threads). And I cannot even reach for the drink now to calm me down which is what I would normally do. The calming yogic breathing is really going to be put to test now... Smile

am off to Heathrow now for the pick-up, deep breaths...

sorry for the outburstBlush was on mn when i got that call so posted immediatly. it makes me so mad though, last time i was pregnant i was under the same obstetrician and i didn't see him once during the entire preg. the hospital here is a joke.

poor thing lockets, i've done it a few times recently when dd throws a tantrum i end up crying too! at least we can blame it on the hormones!

sorry again for the outburst all, will take deep breaths before i post from now on!

BigHotMama · 03/03/2006 15:30

Thanks JayJay for re-assurance I'm gonna buy me a big pack of Philadelphia now!
I really feel for you on the job front, I was out of work last year for 2 weeks had 10 interviews with only one offer, I think if your already out of work it seems harder to get a job! If I was in your position I'd have to go back to temping... I have 2 jobs at mo so will find it hard when only getting my mat pay!

Eve, I just cant catch my breath with what your experiencing with your appointments! Its so wrong! Angry

Sciatica sounds horrid, I havent experienced anything like that (yet!), why do we suffer with so many niggles throughout pg? These men will never understand what us girls go through!

17+5 today Grin

Have good weekend everyone and hope some of you are feeling better soon!! x

purpleturtle · 03/03/2006 17:25

Different kind of back pain for me - my sacro-illiac (sp?) joint plays up terribly throughout pregnancy. I'm already waddling a bit. In some ways it sounds quite like the sciatica the rest of you seem to have got - a pain in the hip. Terrible at night, because it hurts to turn over. I felt like I woke up every time I tried to turn over last night. As the bump gets better I'll be getting out of bed in order to get back in facing the other way!

Nbg - thanks for asking after my mum - she's doing a bit better. They've changed the plaster on her leg for some kind of metal brace or something (haven't seen it) and she's allowed to put weight on it now too, which helps with keeping your balance, obviously.

I could hyperventilate about twins too.. you're a brave woman. When I had a scan at 7ish weeks, I saw a sac... with two things connected by a cord. I nearly fell off the bed! Turns out one was baby the other was yolk(?) sounds gruesome.. they looked identical though! I said to dh, in that second I REALLY knew how I'd feel with twins lol! I do mind twins though so I know it's just lovely!

Awww sorry for everyone with sciatia, sounds nasty.

Welcome to new people too.. are we the largest antenatal group?

freddysays · 04/03/2006 10:32

Hey Kitegirl, I am going to try and crash your yoga session. I am going to send my dp into SoupDragon today to get some info. You make it sound very much worth it. Good luck with the family coming. I too am doing something equally risky. I am off to Cornwall with my ds1 and my mum for a week in a cottage she is renting. Although I love her very much she doesnt stop talking and now I am havign to ask myself why. THe idea is to have a relaxing time but unless I get my mother filter on immediatly I run the risk of being very tired and work down by tales of everyones elses lives!!! I think I will have to excuse myself for lots of naps and get her to take ds1 for lots of lovely long walks alone..I sound really mean and I dont want to be ...

Anyway, I will focus on not having to work and having childcare to hand all day long and actually some of the banter can be fun Wink

Have a great week all! i hope you all get the good feelings, antenatal appointments and kicks you desire!!

jayjaybaby · 04/03/2006 11:03

thanks for the advice from everyone i've tried to get on with several temp agencies but it all ends the same with nothing i really feel for you scaticia suffers its horrendous i suffer with u.back pain so ive heard wot u get is 300x worse i think ifelt the baby move yesterday im 15 /5 so im not sure

Nbg · 04/03/2006 11:50

Hi everyone.

Ok I am freaking out this morning so I need a bit of reassurance.
When I woke up this morning I felt my stomach and I could literally feel the baby! There was nothing else there at all just this little lump (well I say little!) right in the middle just level with my belly button. I called dh in to look because you could see it as well.
He thought it was quite normal but it totally shocked me.

Do you think this is normal?
I think I'm going to start a thread as well cos I am just so freaked out by it!

PT, sacroilliac pain is what I had last time round. The physio gave me a fantastic support band which really eased the pain. I think some midwives provide them now so it could be worth enquiring about. Glad to hear your mum is on the mend too.

Jayjay, don't get too disheartened by the job thing. There will be someone who wants you Smile

and Kitegirl, good luck this weekend!

purpleturtle · 04/03/2006 11:53

Well, I've given in and put a pair of maternity jeans on today. They're over-the-bump ones, and they come up to my boobs! At least I'll be warm. Smile

Baby is definitely getting wriggly. I can cope at this stage, but when they get bigger I do find the whole movement thing a bit weird. I'm always glad when they're on the outside, and my body's my own again.

purpleturtle · 04/03/2006 11:57

Nbg - crossed posts there. I don't know about seeing the baby - hope someone else does. Can you still see it?

I've seen a physio in both previous pregnancies, so I'll have to try to remember the exercises they told me to do. I have a terrible posture anyway, which doesn't help. I do have an elastic belt for when the bump is a bit better. Just trying to decide whether to get the MW to refer me for physio this time round.
