Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pommedechocolat · 16/02/2012 15:59

Fishcake - That makes my PILS behaviour post dd look positively normal! I'm all set for things to be different with them this time too. We're the most important people to the baby post birth so therefore by default we're the most important people!

Wants3 · 16/02/2012 17:08

Just heard from my sister. Baby needs to have an operation in the next few months(before 7 months because the risk gets higher):(

pommedechocolat · 16/02/2012 17:20

Oh wants I'm so sorry to hear that I hope your sister is doing okay.
At least they have diagnosed it and know what they need to do though I guess?

Biscuitsandtea · 16/02/2012 17:22

Oh Wants I'm so sorry to hear that an operation is necessary. Will be keeping everything crossed that they're taking really good care of your Sis and Oliver.

Feel free not to answer this if you don't want to, but how did they know something was wrong? At least they've caught it and can deal with it before the risk increases, although of course no operations are good with babies Sad.

GOSH is amazing though so I'm sure they're in the best hands.

Wants3 · 16/02/2012 17:31

biscuitsMy sister noticed a ridge on his head straight after birth, midwife said it would go down after a day or so, it didn't so various doctors looked at it. One said it's fine, the plates hadn't fused, leave it until he is 2 the next one referred to gosh because he thought they were. Really glad she got a second opinion! I am hoping that they might be able to do the op in a nearer hospital as she has 2 older children and no transport of her own.

Biscuitsandtea · 16/02/2012 17:33

Well thank goodness she stuck to her guns and persevered Wants - Mummy always knows best!

Is she a long way from London? Maybe now they know what's required they'll be able to do it closer to home?

Wants3 · 16/02/2012 19:23

She lives on the south coast so it's a bit of a trek on public transport. She has got friends up there she could stay with but as the girls go to school she wouldn't want to disrupt them too much! We will just wait and see what they say for now.

Biscuitsandtea · 16/02/2012 19:25

Gosh that's complicated Wants. Would her girls perhaps be able to stay with school friends? It's so hard to balance everything - hope they can resolve it all quickly and in a straightforward way xx

Wants3 · 16/02/2012 20:08

Unfortunately I am unable to help as even though I am about 35 mins away it would be really difficult to get through rush hour traffic to get them to school and get back for work. They are with their dad ATM but he can't have them term time. It will all work out I am sure!
Talk about ups and downs, just found out my step brother is expecting a baby in July so what with my step sister and me in may means my dad and smum will have 3 grandchildren within 3 months!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 16/02/2012 22:25

Oh no Wants :( Obviously we will brook that he will be just fine!

Pomme I am very jealous of your sweep. I neeed one. 37 weeks tomorrow, this baby needs to come out! Any tips greatly appreciated.

Fishcake I think it is you with the scary mother?! :o :o How on Earth did you cope!
Is it also you who is graduating? Or was it Wants Will you be pg or bf and needing a black dress because I have seen quite a few nursing ones in my trawling of the WWW. Apologies if I have mixed this up I can't go back to check!

Biscuits you can definitely have my cat. Wormed, fleaed, chipped and deballed. Catches mice, vomits up digested corpse and then licks the floor where it was! Bleurgh. Cats and pregnancy do not mix.

Biscuitsandtea · 17/02/2012 04:57

Right well I seem to find myself awake at stupid o clock again so thought I'd pop a little post on Smile.

Now, to just remember what everyone has said all day.....

Wants brooking like mad for your wee nephew xx

Pomme how exciting about your sweep. Well, not exciting when you read the description (owie!) but you know, exciting that you might have your baby by next weekend. And yours could be any time too Purple Grin. So so excited to see the next hat trick of brooking babies arriving along with Too's. And then I can have my turn too :)

Fishcake I am still Shock about your Mum. You and your DH are both complete saints to have got through that visit unscathed! It can't possibly be more stressful than that moving house with a newborn so I am in absolutely no doubt you'll be just fine! Smile I can't believe your Mum tried to tell DH he wasn't needed and to 'make use of his PL' by staying with a friend! I know she's your mother (so don't want to speak out of turn) and I'm sure she has many redeeming qualities, but really, that can't have been her best week's work Confused

Was it you Fishcake who commented on my early morning posts? Sometimes, like tonight, I just can't get back to sleep after I've got up to go to the loo, which is just a pg thing. But other days, the posts at about 5-6am are mainly because DH gets up super early for work so quite often I'm awake then. I do sometimes get up between 6 and 7 if I want to be 'up and at 'em' before DS gets up (normally about 7-7:15) but as the pg goes on this happens less and less. So I might have been awake for a while but then DS will come and get in our bed when he wakes up and we'll snuggle / read stories until 8 ish at the moment.

Mind you I find I spend so much time snuggling with DS at the moment I'm not sure how I'm going to fit a baby in - its like a full time job!

Oh and I almost always post / read on my phone or iPad so I'm not actually up and at the computer or anything Smile

Mouse wise - Can't see us getting a cat or anything. Neither of us are really pet people I'm afraid! Instead we have a man from the council coming Confused. I did heaps and heaps of cleaning yesterday and should get it finished today. Also did an enormous (heavy Sad) supermarket shop to replace everything we'd chucked out (in a quite possible total over-reaction!). I've bought gazillions of airtight containers and still need more. Fortunately there is no 'evidence' of them having got into any of the food but I am taking no chances and this house will be mouse proof!

We live near a river (as in at the bottom of our garden) so I can imagine this might not be a one off Sad.

Good lord though I did a lot yesterday. For someone who struggles to get one useful thing done a day normally! I cleaned the kitchen, mopped and swept all the downstairs floors, cleaned the bathroom floors (had cleaned the rest of the bathrooms the day before), cooked a double whammy pasta meal so I could freeze half, collected DH's car from the garage, did an enormous shop and sorted out all the containerising of the food, 2 loads of washing. I was so tired by the time DH came home!

And I've got a similar list for today too Sad

I wasn't a v good parent yesterday though Blush. My in-laws nipped round so I could go to the supermarket without DS (I knew it was going to be a heavy shop - I didn't need him making the trolley 3 stone heavier! Grin). But basically from the time I got back from the shop, at say, 2? I basically left CBeebies on and just left him to it Blush. Now in my defence he's got this same cold as me and is pretty tired, but won't really go for a nap as he's not used to them now. And within not very long he'd laid himself on the sofa and looked for all the world like he might drop off to sleep. He did in the end, but probably after an hour or two of goggle boxing Blush. No way I would have got it all done though if he'd not been asleep Confused

My FIL kept hinting that we should be buying some nice humane traps for the mice, but I just don't feel I have time on my side at the moment. With an imminent baby and DS I feel I just need it gone. I also wonder if I trap them alive and keep letting them go, won't they just keep coming back? I guess you'd need to have closed up all the holes but even so?

Oh and Musical - chocolate Philadelphia? Honestly, I think it tastes ok - I had some on toast for lunch. However, (a) my toast had gone cold before I got to eat it and (b) I can't actually taste anything due to a combination of a stinking cold and my pseudo-burnt tongue Sad. I will report back again when I have some sense of taste return!

I'm forgetting everything else now so will have to re-read the recent posts!

Am hoping Hawthers and Farley and co are all getting on ok, and that Scarlet is coping with those pesky builders!

Biscuitsandtea · 17/02/2012 05:05

Oh and this one is going back a bit but Popcorn - my mw also booked my scan in at the booking in (at 8 weeks) like Dream's did, which seems a nice efficient way to do it but I've read threads on here where people have had all sorts of things to do and all different systems in place. So, i was just meaning in my post yesterday that if you're not booking in until 10 weeks you'd hate to find out you were in one of these DIY PCTs! Smile

jaggythistle · 17/02/2012 06:56

Eek you've all been so busy, it's taken me ages to catch up!

brooking lots for wants3's nephew. :(

re the Bavaria beer - I've seen the lager one pretty much everywhere and it's pretty good too. the wheat beer I've seen mostly in Asda. :)

sounds like good news on the recent scans, looking forward to all the imminent babies. they'll be coming in waves like the bfps did soon. Grin

i slept a bit better last night as i listened to my natal hypnotherapy pregnancy relaxation cd before bed. i think i slept through a bit of it and babyjaggy was jumping about like mad and distracting me, but i feel more rested today. :) i think i just did nice calm breathing when i woke up instead of stressing about not being asleep.

I'm looking forward to the birth preparation one, i thought it was 30 weeks to start listening to it, but leaflet says 30. do you think it'll matter if i get impatient and start a week or 2 early?

i even got up a bit early and had my shower. DS still asleep hence me having time to post!

DreamingOfPeace · 17/02/2012 08:42

Urgh. Dd up 3-5 night before last and 1:30-4:45 last night. WTF do I do?! I'm so exhausted now :-( plus friends for weekend and baby signing this morning. And I think dd has our man-flu now.

She'd love a cat. I'll check I can keep three children alive first though.

Can't do any more now, but yes fishcake, lack of fluid squeezed out of lungs etc with CS.

Urgh. Suppose best get ready for signing. Need to wear dd out so can rest when she naps later

NinjaChipmunk · 17/02/2012 09:45

gosh all you tired people I do hope you get some rest soon.

I'm pissed off. I'm going for a meal tonight to celebrate my friends birthday, 4 of us going and it has taken about a month of planning dates to get it sorted as we all have kids. DP is also going out tonight with a mate to something he has tickets to up in town. Our babysitter (ds's room supervisor at nursery) has just texted to say she's ill, was off work yesterday and today and is v sorry but has to cancel. She's trying to find us someone else but I'm not feeling hopeful. She has offered to have ds at her house (not a good idea I think as I won't be back till about 11.30). I don't know what to do. I think dp should cancel his night out as he goes out far more often than I do but I feel a bit mean thinking that. Bugger. I've been looking forward to this for ages. What shall I do????

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 17/02/2012 09:52

I have mice too, Biscuits. Every time I think the sodding things are gone they come back. The landlord sent round someone to block up as many holes as possible, but there's still one behind the boiler which he couldn't reach, and I think there must be one under the kitchen sink too. I wish we could have a cat, but the dog would eat it. The dog is hopeless at deterring them - they chewed the blanket in his bed! Grr. I got so angry with them that I needed to buy proper killing traps. There weren't any humane ones left in B&Q the day we went trap shopping, and I couldn't bring myself to wait. We did try poison but they seemed to eat it and not die - dragged the poison box around the base of the cooker! Besides, I was afraid we would poison the dog by accident. I live in the middle of nowhere surrounded by fields and woodland, so unfortunately mice seem to be inevitable.

I am in awe of your cleaning list. I didn't think it was possible to do that much in one day!

Dream, ugh, that sounds exhausting. Can you nap while she does?

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 17/02/2012 09:55

X posts, Ninja. I think you should go and DH should stay! Is there anyone else who can babysit? Parents, siblings, other friends? Or can you share a babysitter with one of the friends who is going out with you tonight? Take DS round to one of their houses? Good luck - am Brooking that it gets sorted and you get to go out!

OP posts:
NinjaChipmunk · 17/02/2012 10:00

parents and siblings live too far away and its my nct friends who I'm going out with, my work colleague who has also offered in the past has a poorly 2 x dd so she can't do it either. I'm hoping dp will man up by lunchtime and offer to stay home. Grin

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 17/02/2012 10:20

I think I forgot to congrat and welcome Munx in my last post? Very sorry! It's great to have you with us!!!! Excellent rat smacking!!!

Sorry to hear about the sleepless night Dream, I'm still No Brooking for this issue to resolve itself long before the boys arrive! Your poor DD, I hope she gets back to feeling 100% soon.

Wants sorry to hear about your DN, but it's great that they've caught it (thanks to the persistence of your sister!). No Brooking my hardest for the surgery to be straightforward and for your DN to make a swift recovery! Kids are so resilient. My DH spent the first 6 months of his life with plaster casts on his legs, it must have been so stressful for his parents but now he doesn't even remember it and it has no impact on his life. Your sis and DN will get through this and then forget all about it!

I'm trying to keep my posting to a minimum at the moment, I'm not in a suitably positive mood to contribute good things to our lovely thread! I will keep my dark and twisty thoughts to myself, and post more frequently once I regain my good humour!

NinjaChipmunk · 17/02/2012 10:22

scream if you do need to talk can you start another thread? I don't like to think of you with dark twisty thoughts! You know we'll support you if you need it.

pommedechocolat · 17/02/2012 10:24

Agree with Ninja scream - post away with what you're feeling.

Purple - I posted a thread in Pregnancy asking for tips to make sure sweep worked but no answers yet! I'm on rlt but think that's more about uterus being effective in labour not starting it. Last time pineapple and curry did nothing, though I prob will have curry on saturday!

Wants3 · 17/02/2012 10:36

Thanks too for your DH's direct debit :) I am sure Oliver and his mummy will really appreciate it!
I have just given my microwave a good clean and put a load of washing on so I feel I am done for the day, little and often is my motto! I am in awe of biscuits accomplishments. A bit of nesting going on there I think :) I had a sudden thought that the steam sterilizer I bought recently wouldn't fit in the microwave so I had to unpack it and check. It does! God job because it was reduced to £10 from £26 and I paid with Tescos vouchers!
I have been having a lot of bhs recently, about 6 in 2 hours on weds, luckily I was at antenatal group and midwife reassured me it didn't mean my baby would come early ( I don't remember having them previously). I will just have a really toned uterus by the time I go into labour and baby will just pop out :)

Biscuitsandtea · 17/02/2012 10:48

Ah wants, not so much nesting as trying to stop the mouse from nesting!! Grin

I really am not a fan of achieving so much on one day cleaning.

Whilst I was moaning mentioning this to my mum yesterday she said 'oh we'll the exercise must be good for you' Hmm

Errr, thanks!!

Too I think the river at the bottom of the garden is going to be our own supply of mice Confused. Still the council mouse man seems nice and has put some poison under the kicking board and some in the cupboard - just need to get DH to fix the cupboard shut so DS can't accidentally get to it, although it's in a proper tamper proof box and everything, I just want to be belt and braces about it!

Ninja, for what it's worth, I think if it comes to it you should get the night out and DH stay at home. As you say he goes out more now and once we've all got our babies we'll be stuck in at night for a while. I wouldn't be shy about pointing this out! Grin

Even now my mum will ring in the evening and if DH answers says 'is she in?' Like where else am I ever at night?

Dream am really keeping everything crossed that this is just a little blip on the sleeping through front, which could be down to DD coming down with the man-flu cold. Hope she's back to her general line of improvement soon.

Off out, hopefully, for a child free lunch with a friend today - hooray Grin

musicalmrs · 17/02/2012 11:14

Biscuits, good luck with the poison - sounds horrible though :( We had a cockroach problem (!!!!) when we moved into our last flat - left behind by the previous tenants. A poison man came round and sorted it very quickly.. but it was horrific :(

Very impressed by your mammoth cleaning! I was exhausted with my mammoth clean on Wednesday, and it wasn't anywhere near as mammoth as yours!

Ninja, I'm with everyone else - you should get the night out! Have you been dropping not so subtle hints? Grin

Scream, please do feel free to talk to us - here or elsewhere.

Dream, hoping for your sake that it's just a sleeping blip :(

Just had my 28w blood test - rewarded myself with a creme egg. Obviously just to replenish the lost blood etc... Wink I've had a horrible thought though! It's ok for all of you who are due imminently, but my due date's May - what am I going to do without creme eggs from Easter onwards?! Maybe I'll have to stock up in the post-Easter sales... but I'm terribly afraid that I'd just eat them all and still be left with none!

Final day of HT, so I should really get on and do all the rest of the work I've been avoiding. It's in a pile beside me, and I've still not started any of it.. ooops!

PopcornMouse · 17/02/2012 11:21

Thanks Biscuits I'll see what comes in the post, hopefully it will explain :)

Ninja I agree, you should go out - it might help, if you're planning on BFing, to "remind" DH that once you pop you won't be going on nights out very often? :o

I am slightly freaked out by the thought of a nurse's hand in my fanjo pomme (how does she reach, for starters?!) but I suppose bigger things will be in there soon! Blush :o
