Hi all,i got my nuchal scan on april 6,just before i turn 13wks,the woman doing the bookings told me all tests are done between 12-14 wks,now im confused as i thought it was 11-13wks,can anyone shed some light on this?

Annelouise · 18/03/2006 09:55

HI

Went to the MW on thurs for the 1st time and although it's not my 1st I found the whole thing very overwhelming and ended up crying my way throught the whole appointment! I couldn't believe the amount of books/leaflets she gave me I must have a whole rainforest sitting on the shelf now but if I try to read them I get overwhelmed again so am building up to that! Got my scan date thrugh today for Fri-can't believe how quick it came through-just looking forward to that now to reassure me everything is OK-have been totaly paranoid that although I've been fine something is wrong!

sparkly1 · 18/03/2006 12:45

I need to whinge. I'm sick of being sick. I wake up and there is a 20 second window where I wonder if I'll feel the same and that's if being sick hasn't woken me up during the night. I can't take much more of this, I really can't. I'm essentially stuck at home because of the fear of being sick when out. It's not an unfounded fear since I can't eat without being sick. I try not eating and I'm still sick. I'm fed up with it. My stomach hurts, I have a constant headache, my throat is sore. My dr said the other day that I only had a couple more week. Well thanks for that. Surely there must be something somone can do to help. I've tried ginger, I've tried eating the boring bland food, I've tried everything. I'm just :(

booge · 18/03/2006 13:52

sparkly1, I can only offer sympathy as I only get nausea not sickness. It sounds like you're having a dreadful time. When I was reading up on it I found this on \link{http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/en.aspx?printPage=1&articleId=260\NHS Direct}

"If you are vomiting a lot, the antihistamine medicine, promethazine, may help. There is no evidence that it will harm your unborn baby."

I hope you start feeling better soon. I'm 12 weeks on Sunday and although I still feel sick alot of the time it has eased already.

marthahm · 18/03/2006 16:24

hi everyone. we all seem to be getting progressively more sick apart from a few lucky ones like majormoo. i am clinging to your message, majormoo that it's improving as gets closer to 12 wks. am also becoming increasingly emotional. dh took me out for breakfast to help with nausea. a little girl at the next table started crying because she'd got lost at the party her father had just retrieved her from-and guess what...embarrassement of all time i started crying Blush excruciatingly embarrassing. everyone started looking at me like i was a sandwhich short-including dh who nearly fell off his chair.
on a more serious note, i am increasingly worried about my job. i'm self employed but have a 1 day a week contract with the charity i work for. unfortunately my contract is up for renewal in september. october is the busiest month at work and when we get all the new recruits in. if they have the oppurtunity they will not keep the job open. they have a terrible rep on this, having fired a receptionist the day after she had told them she was pg. my boss is in on thursday and will have to be told as he will notice otherwise. i wonder if going back one day a week at 3 months is insane? it might help persuade them to keep me on. greatful for any advice

Annelouise · 19/03/2006 10:04

They cannot sack you just for being pregnant and there is no way I would consider going back at 3 months however if you don't get paid more than £75 a week for that 1 day you have no right to maternity leave any way. But as a self employeed person you can claim money back from the government you need to get in touch with your local DSS for all the facts there are also some useful websites that tell you all your rights-I will try and remember to look these up tomorrow for you.

On the sickness front a tip of the dy the other day was to pierce a lemon with your nail and smell it-anythings worth a try if your feeling that bad!

marthahm · 19/03/2006 12:34

thank you annelouise, positive news. can they not get rid of me if my contract is up for renewal though?

wuzzlefraggle · 20/03/2006 09:42

hi ladies, just a quick post to check that every1 is doing ok...how far is every1 along?????
Im 9 weeks today and have had my appointment for my first scan etc through for the 20th april (aaaages away lol.)

take it easy every1 xoxoxox

Gemmitygem · 20/03/2006 10:29

Martha, I would consider going back 1 day a week. Anyway, TELL them that for now, so they keep you on, and then you can always change your mind. It's disgraceful that they sacked someone for being pg (specially if they're meant to be a charity!!). If they behave badly to you, I'm sure your talents are better employed elsewhere.. anyway keep us posted.

wuzzle: I'm 10 w 3, so 12 weeks looming. saw heartbeat at 8w so felt more assured. Still feel knackered and bulging in the evenings.

Has anyone considered buying one of these mini dopplers with headphones? I saw one on the Net which cost 48 pounds, and it said you could hear the heartbeat from 12 weeks. I would find that really reassuring, so thinking of getting it..

Still stressing about the birth but my SIL said it's common to obsess in the 1st trimester because you've nothing else to focus on. hmm!

totallyfloaty35 · 20/03/2006 11:29

Im having probs at work too.im a therapist and rent a room on fri afternoons, the clinic owner keeps going on and on about whether i have organised cover yet as she must have the rent from that room.Im only 10wks pg.She been asking for last 2wks.Its really getting on my nerves and i feel really pressured and stressed

whiffy · 20/03/2006 12:09

Gemmity - I bought one of those listening things a couple of years back and it never seemed to work. But they may have got more accurate since then....

Scan on Wednesday and getting very apprehensive. Now I'm vomitting for England so still feeling v pg, I have turned those incessant worries to nuchal folds and stuff....

paow · 20/03/2006 12:17

Hello all,
I'm really sorry some of you are having trouble at work. Make sure you get informed on the Work and Pensions website about your rights and also make sure the employers stick to your contract's terms and conditions.

I am 9 weeks tomorrow and also feeling very emotional, things getting a bit much.
On saturday we went out for lunch with some friends and on my return I felt really faint, it was horrible.
DH is getting a bit fed up of staying in a lot (specially cause it's still winter) but doesn't want to leave me all alone, specially cause of the MC last year.
Oh well, I can't wait for my scan in 3 weeks time, lucky girls who are having scans already.

Has any of you joined the NCT? I got all the info in, looks wonderful, I'll def join after my scan.

Take care
P

marthahm · 20/03/2006 13:36

hi guys, thanks for all the info re job. have read my contract which makes no mention of maternity stuff. i have found out though that in theory all pregnant employees are entitled to at least 18 weeks leave and i would get up to 29 weeks having worked there for more than a year. still, am waiting for a legal advisor to ring me back tomorrow so will let you know...
i am 10 weeks and 3 days today and feeling sicker than ever.

paow i am finding things a bit much too, we went out to dinner with friends on friday and i felt like a lemon, not drinking, knackered and with an undigestible tummy. hoping not to have to go out til this bit's over, although i think my dh is also getting a bit bored.
totally floaty i sympathise, am a therapist too and self employed, there's enough pressure already without anyone adding to it.

has anyone heard the theory that being pregnant with a girl makes you sicker?

here's to hoping we all feel better soon

nowanearlyNicemum · 20/03/2006 13:53

hi girls,
sorry haven't been posting much.
like sparkly, I seem to have my head down the loo all the time. so much so, that I went to see my dr and he gave me some tablets to take. I hate the idea of medication so we talked about it for ages but I was just soooo sick I didn't know what else to do. Anyway, I just took them for one day and it seems to have broken the 'cycle' of throwing up. I still feel nauseous but I haven't been sick for a couple of days - it's amazing.

sparkly, you really need to get someone to listen to you. it's just so grim isn't it?

totallyfloaty35 · 20/03/2006 19:37

have just swapped my nuchal scan apt,was supposed to go st thomas's on april 6th,but will be 13wks then and im far to impatient,so having private one at goring on 29th march.Very nervous as husband not back in country til mid april so will have to go on my own.
Midwife apt on friday, was told they will do all my apts at my house so im pleased as hate sitting in hospital for ages. With 1st dd consultant "forgot" i was there and left for the day and no-one told me for 2 hrs even though i kept asking how much longer!!!
Sorry to hear so many of you are feeling awful, have you tried acupuncture? works well on some people

sparkly1 · 20/03/2006 20:17

TF35, can you take a friend with you? My scan is on Thursday but it's just a dating scan. Nobody has even mentioned nuchal fold scan so I'll ask about it on Thursday. Still feeling hideously sick. I've been to the dr who had little sympathy for me. Just have to tough it out apparently. All food is hideous and I used to love food. Only 2-3 more weeks, right?

3kids · 21/03/2006 06:48

Hi everyone, Not feeling to good got rushed to out of hours doctors in the early hours of sunday morning after not being able to wee for over 6 hours! nowanearlyNicemum · 21/03/2006 09:46

poor you 3kids - that sounds grim.
hope you're feeling perkier very soon - I'm sure the scan will lift your spirits!! :)

Annelouise · 21/03/2006 10:24

A useful website to check to get the rights fromt he employers side is www.hmrc.gov.org. This is the inland rev website. Often useful to get it from their point of view! Will need to type into search maternity rights. Had to tell my employer today but luckily he is alright.

sunnyside · 21/03/2006 11:59

Hello ladies I'm a newbie but have been lurking a bit! I've got my scan today at 2.50 and I'm so scared that there'll be nothing there. Had m/c last July and can't allow myself to hope....

marthahm · 21/03/2006 12:29

welcome and good luck sunnyside, how many weeks are you?

sassy1983 · 21/03/2006 16:13

Hi every1. Been lurking for ages and decided its time to join you!! I'm 22 and pg with 1st. Due 15th October, I'm 10 + 2. Been very nauseous but not actually sick, got sore boobs and so bloated I'm nearly busting out of all my clothes... the joys!! Got first scan on 3rd April, can't wait. Happy pgs!! :o

sunnyside · 21/03/2006 17:21

Thanks Marthahm. Feeling much better now that I've seen a hoppy bean! I'm 10+3 according to scan so fingers crossed now. I'm also feeling really nauseous and have got a thumoing headache so I'm off to bed while DH goes to collect DS from MIL... what an escape!

marthahm · 21/03/2006 17:34

lucky you sunnyside. i'm 10 + 4, so almost the same. Hi Sassy ,i've got my scan in 2 weeks too. slightly anxious that everything will be ok but also really looking forward to seeing the baked bean. the thought keeps me going through the nausea. i keep reading the messages from everyone who feels sick and still has to cope with other children-makes me think i'm a bit of a wimp just having to look after myself...
on the work front-have just found out for definite i'm stuffed in terms of maternity leave. because i'm self employed and my contract has nothing in it re maternity the legal advisor for the osteopathic association (like a union in a way for us osteopaths) has said i've got no chance. will see what i can do on thursday when the big boss is there. am resigned to losing the job. at the end of the day, i'd much rather have a baby than keep the job and hopefully i'll be able to re apply for a job there when i'm ready to go back.

nowanearlyNicemum · 21/03/2006 19:32

that stinks marthahm.
you've got the right attitude but I just can't believe how unfair it is on you. fingers crossed your boss is understanding.

welcome sunnyside, great news about your scan

welcome to you too sassy1983, hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy

:)
