Tigerlion, about the exercise. I usually swim 3-4 times a week so am keeping that up so far.

Met up with my friend tonight who is 11 weeks pregnant. She's 40 so is going for a private scan next week (a nuchal fold scan - could that be it?) to establish risk of downs. Then if that is high she will have amnio. She has a young partner (he's only 28 - lucky her!) so wonder if that will make any difference. I have no idea what tests I'll need this time around as I'm considered old apparently (will be 35 when baby born). Her boobs are enormous and sore so I guess I have that to look forward to. One boob is causing me much agony all the time already. I may go to the doctor because I'm not sure it's right.

I plan on resting lots this weekend and can't wait to go home from work tomorrow night. I need lots of sleep!

Gemmitygem · 03/03/2006 03:04

Tigerlion: I'm doing step aerobics about twice a week but not overdoing it, slowing down if I get too knackered, and doing an hour long gentle workout (stretches, lunges and back exercises) at home about twice a week, and feel much better after exercising.. want to strengthen body a bit to prepare for when the baby weighs heavier. I find swimming on my front feels horrible now so stopped. But before pg was doing about the same, so I guess it's what you feel comfortable with and what you're used to.

Whiffy and paow, glad I'm not the only one who's bloated in the evenings! Grin. DH calls it 'food pregnancy' but that's unfair!

3kids · 03/03/2006 07:14

I feel soooo sick today. From the second my eyes opened. Blah. And I think I'm only 6 weeks so have about, oh, 6 more weeks of this to go. I don't know how those of you with small age gaps manage. My dd gets herself up, dressed, sorts her breakfast (even offers to make mine!). If she didn't we wouldn't have got out of the house the last few days!

Still waiting news of scan date

Gemmitygem · 03/03/2006 08:24

3kids, well done on being 10 weeks! I'm 8 weeks today...

Poor sparkly; hope you feel better soon!

Keep your fingers crossed for me tomorrow morning; am having an early scan tomorrow, a bit worried as haven't been in a hospital here yet and don't expect the latest equipment but at least I know the doctor is nice; she's a friend of my colleague.

For those that have had early scans, do you need to have a full bladder?

sparkly1 · 03/03/2006 08:29

When I had an early scan when I miscarried last time I went with a full bladder but then because they couldn't see anything I had a transvaginal ultrasound so didn't need a full bladder. Not very helpful info, is it!

I hope the scan goes well tomorrow - will be thinking of you.

Gemmitygem · 03/03/2006 08:34

Thanks! I don't think transvaginal ultrasounds have come to Kazakhstan yet, so I'd better drink a gallon and hope they can see it on the abdominal!Wink

wuzzlefraggle · 03/03/2006 09:20

Salsamama - i hope that you have a healthy and happy pregnancy :) i should be due around the 23rd Oct (if my calculations serve me right lol), so very close to your date.

Sparkly- i know what you mean about boob pain...mine hurt like mad!!

hope that every1 else is doing well :) xox

nowanearlyNicemum · 03/03/2006 10:02

morning ladies,
inlaws have taken dd out for a walk so I thought I'd just nip on here and see how you're all doing.
I've started feeling fairly nauseous in the morning, and worse in the evening. So that's fun. Not nearly as bad as with dd though so if it stays like that I'll be happy.
Gemmitygem, yep, you'll be needing a full bladder for that scan. It's soooo mean when they press down on it and you're thinking - Do you want me to pee all over the couch or what?
How old is your dd sparkly1? She sounds like a complete star!!

Gemmitygem · 03/03/2006 10:20

Just rang doctor, and she said it'll be a transvaginal scan (gulp!) so not to drink.. I'm now panicking about the local standards of hygiene... but I suppose at least they'll see more/ more likely to see heartbeat?

On a completely different tangent, have any of you done the Chinese gender predictor, and did it work? it's at www.pregnancyweekly.com/pregnancy_information/chinese_calendar.htm

The main thing is not to forget to add 9 months to your age. According to it, I'm having a boy..
But if it's so accurate, why are so many unwanted girls born in China?

sparkly1 · 03/03/2006 10:20

My dd is 6 so very self-sufficient! She's going to be so excited when we tell her as my closest friend is pg at the moment and dd keeps going on about how she'd like a sister. Ok, so the fact she only wants a sister is a problem but I always try to say you can't pick so if I did have a baby she might get a brother! I'm not bothered either way - I just want a happy healthy one of either sex.

At work feeling rubbish and am not telling anyone till after my first scan (whenever that may be). Don't think anyone will notice because it's not like I'm a skinny minny in the first place.

wuzzlefraggle · 03/03/2006 10:21

ok ladies, i have a little question...

im going to see the MW for the first time on monday (according to my dates i should be seven weeks) eventhough i told the receptionist at the docs that i could guess how far gone i am by counting from the first day of my last period, she still said it was best to book me in so the MW could tell me how far gone i am etc. what does the MW actually do/need/etc at the first meeting?? might sound like a silly question, but i honestly have no clue (firt timer :) )
any help would be very very greatly appreciated xoxox

sparkly1 · 03/03/2006 10:22

Gem, just a thought, if you're worried about the hygiene quality. Take a condom with you and ask them to use it on the transvaginal bit. I'm sure they won't take offence. Maybe fib a bit and say you're easily prone to thrush or something?

Gemmitygem · 03/03/2006 10:23

that's a REALLY good idea..
I think I'll do that, thanks!

twinkle183 · 03/03/2006 10:53

Hi ya ladies, just got in and this morning managed to crash my car in to a road sign... I don't know what happened??? I just lost control of the car I guess?? i now can't stop crying Sadat the moment I am so shaken up and embarrassed that I did it.

wuzzlefraggle on your first appointment they usually just like to fill in details like the first day of your last period, family history, test you pee and take blood to test for your blood type, check your iron levels and then she'll give you a bunch of leaflets. I hope that this helps you!!

totallyfloaty35 · 03/03/2006 11:02

Gem,they use condoms over those scanners anyway, feel queasy still, its just costant.
Ihave my mw apt on 24th,i will be 11wks by then,so bit worried about getting my nuchal scan on time.

whiffy · 03/03/2006 11:02

Gemmity - I used to have T-V scans all the time in South Africa - was the norm there. They ALWAYS put a fresh condom on them in SA so they wouldn't bat an eyelid if you brought one in...good luck!!!

Wuzzle - I had my MW first meeting yesterday. Was a riot but mostly because she came to my house, and the cleaner (who just so happens to be the local gossip and is also barmaid in local pub) kept trying to eavesdrop on conversation so I kept havign to shush the MW every time she mentioned any pg-related stuff loudly. What a nightmare. Anyway, Wuzzle, first meeting is just where they take notes on past illnesses and stuff and then provide you with useful bits of info such as 'best not to drink/smoke/get high' (duh, could never have worked that one out..). On the plus side they also run through food/drink to avoid, likely symptoms, what the MW/dr process is in your area, whether you have thought about which hospital to have baby in etc. They also have details of all the good PG classes in your area - yoga/aqua natel stuff etc. So nothing to get bothered by; worst you'll get are a few embarassing questions about your history in terms of STD'd and the like. Of course just how embarassing those questions can be will I guess depend on how much fun you had in your youth Wink

wuzzlefraggle · 03/03/2006 11:04

twinkle, i hope that you are ok!! bugger the road sign, just make sure that you are not hurt or anything xox i hope that u start to feel a little calmer soon. dont worry, every1 has a bit of a bump sooner or later xox
and thank you, it was a great help :)

whiffy · 03/03/2006 11:05

OH Twinkle you poor thing! Given that we're all prone to crying at the moment anyway you must be in floods with everyone thinking you're over-reacting and stuff. Grab some camomile tea, breathe deeply and remind yourself that these are exactly the kind of things we will all be doing over next few months and will all be laughing about for years to come.

Car will be fixed in no time, you'll find this something to laugh about for years.

Sending you {{{hugs}}}

wuzzlefraggle · 03/03/2006 11:06

and thanks whiffy :) the help is very much appreciated. wow, i bet that your first MW appointment was 'fun' then lol Grin the gossip was proably having a field day!! i hope that you have a healthy and happy pg xox

twinkle183 · 03/03/2006 11:07

Your welcome I'm sure that I'll calm down soon. Thanks for your well wishes. Smile

Gemmitygem · 03/03/2006 11:14

Poor twinkle! What a horrible shock... Please look after yourself and take it easy today, have a choccy bar and a sit down.. Hope it's all OK.

Have you lot also been crying over nothing and feeling like you're about 13 again? Awful!

Thanks for condom advice whiffy and totallyfloaty... I'll let you know how it goes. I've written down a big list of Russian vocabulary, just in case I need to use words I've never used in everyday office chit chat, like 'cervical mucus' and 'sexually transmitted diseases!' If all fails I'll just point and groan Grin

riley3 · 04/03/2006 00:30

Sparkly - keep us posted re your 40 year old friend. I'm in same boat (40, I mean - although my DH is a older than her DP at 35 Wink). I'm also going for a nuchal but I get it on the NHS just as part as my normal care. I had one for my last baby when I was 37 as well. It will be part of my 12wk scan which is the first scan I will have had. Wish I could have had an earlier one like so many of you seem to have had but no one offered me and I didn't think to ask!

Twinkle - hope your heart rate has slowed. I have actually been absolutely terrified of doing the same thing and have been extra careful since being pg although I didn't relate the 2 things till I heard your story!

cece · 04/03/2006 07:11

riley

I am booked in for scan inculding Nuchal on 19th April. I am a bit worried as I am 39....

sparkly1 · 04/03/2006 08:51

What age do you need to have the nuchal fold scan then? I'm 34 so will I get this? I think it's bad that NHS care varies so widely and that my friend can't get hers done as part of routine care. It's costing them £180Shock

Gem, hope your scan went well this morning. Update us when you get a chance.
