Evening all!
Congrats to all the other Monday scanners!
Ellybett - sorry you had such a crappy sonographer. Very
for you.
Well, had my scan this morning. Drank my 2 pints of water 2 hours before (water had been in the boot of the car over night and was very cold, so that wasn't fun)! We got to the hospital about 25 mins before appt time and DH dropped me off and went to park the car. At this point I was dying for a wee. Practically as soon as I sat down, the sonographer called me, 20 mins early! I asked if I could wait for DH so she said she'd come back for me. In the end, a different sonographer called me - 30 mins after my appt time! I was so desperate for a pee I just walked in and said to him "please be quick, I'm desperate for a wee!" He was quite pleased with this as said he prefers to be quick but usually feels he has to spend lots of time for people to see baby - my response was pretty much "get on with it man, times a-wastin' and my bladder can't take it".
Scan went well, all measurements average and it's a boy! I'm so pleased as we were both hoping for a boy. He behaved impeccably and was much more chilled out than the first scan, so easier to measure.
Then, waited to get called by the midwife and then consultant. An hour later..the midwife tried to take my blood pressure with one of the auto sphygs (which I never get on with) and it nearly took my arm off at the elbow with the pressure before it gave up. Rather worried, I watched as she hooked up the manual one, thinking I was guaranteed a high reading now. But no! Blood pressure still spot on!
Finally, saw the lovely consultant who said everything looks fine and I broached the subject of homebirth as my community midwife had said early on it wasn't recommended because of my weight and I'd need to discuss it with the consultant. Consultant said it was too early to discuss really, would do it at the 36 week appt (which is what I expected, but midwife had told me to discuss with her at this appt) but that if all carried on the way it is, she can't see why I couldn't have a home birth! I am absolutely over the moon. I know this isn't a guarantee - my blood pressure needs to stay okay, need to avoid any protein in wee, need to have an okay GTT and baby growth needs to stay average, but now I feel like I'm being treated fairly and on an even playing field; the decision will be based on health rather than pigeon-holing me based on my weight. I can't begin to tell you how fantastic this makes me feel.
Anyway, sorry for the essay - I'll leave you all in peace now!
