Yeah, I'm a bit Hmm about that. We'd been trying for 11 bloody months and now people comment that we must have just got excited about the royal wedding...admittedly they don't realise how long we were trying for but still... Biscuit
My daughter is NOT in ANY WAY the "excited" product of a horse marrying a fop.

Yeah, we'd been trying for 9 months and we just happened to conceive over that weekend!! I should add it was when we'd given up on our clean living ttc lifestyle and taken up drinking again! :)

addictediam · 20/01/2012 14:13

We weren't ttc as such, but it had nothing to do with the royal wedding. We had recently moved in to a new house and were decorating our bedroom and bathroom while trying to still 'live' in there, I told dh that there would be no sex until at least the bedroom was finished as I couldn't deal with living in a building site any more. The bedroom and bathroom was finished pretty sharpish and I was so greatful we got a little carried away :o. I hasten to add, we had discussed having another, but were thinking of ttc in maybe 6-12 months time!!

But yes, when people found out, they assumed it was because of the wedding Hmm

Karmanna · 20/01/2012 14:38

:o, addicted - nothing like a sex ban to get things done!

Yeah, I'm a bit confused at why people think it's because of the wedding - we didn't even watch it! More to do with the long time off work as it was around Easter too!

BigHotMama · 20/01/2012 14:43

We were planning to start ttc on our holiday in July but obviously got caught early which was a shock but a fabulous shock. Never bothered going back on the pill after ds and used the pull out method near ovulation time but obviously I must've got dates wrong on that night or maybe I was pissed not sure?

Think most mat wards are struggling with January demands as keep hearing scary stories my hospital are refusing lots of labouring women.

DawnOfTheDee · 20/01/2012 15:11

Me and DH were going to start ttc in the summer of 2011. As we were still using protection in April we know exactly our date of conception....it was Grand National day (insert your own joke here...Grin). Won some money on the race as well......a good day all in! Wink

I'm 41+6 now. Have to ring hospital tomorrow to see if we can go in for induction...depends how busy they are...and from stories I've heard they are very very busy. 4 of the girls in my nct class were booked in for Jimmy's but ended up at LGI instead.

supadupapupascupa · 20/01/2012 15:13

erm our conception WAS due to the copious amounts of champagne drunk at the royal wedding party we went to Grin we went on holiday the day after so we were just in 'that' sort of mood Grin

Fryn · 20/01/2012 15:28

Ha! Loving the conception stories! We'd gone to Croatia using those lovely 3 days hols to get 10 days or whatever it was, I'd just persuaded a reluctant DH to try for DC2, he thought it would take at least as long as it did with DD1 (8 months), but unfortunately for him, after a few too many glasses of Croatian wine, DC2 was our holiday souvenir! It does mean that DH keeps suggesting Slobadan for a boy.

oiesha Grin horse marrying a fop! Love it.

Just seen the midwife, who looked blankly at me when I said I was booked for a homebirth, and more so when I said I'd been told the community midwives (ie her and her team) were supposed to be covering the coming week until the homebirth team officially start on 1st Feb. I guess it's lucky that I've packed my hospital bag just in case...

Anyway, she didn't even bother to check if I'm engaged, and thinking about it, didn't even feel my bump - she just looked and said baby's average size Hmm I know midwives are quite amazing and know stuff, but really, from just looking?? Oh well, just hoping G2's still head down as I really have no idea!

DawnOfTheDee · 20/01/2012 15:34

Fryn - love Slobadan for a boy...that's brilliant. You could always chuck it in as an extra middle name.....

I suggested Aintree for a middle name for ours but my DH was having none of it...oh well

Grin
Karmanna · 20/01/2012 16:36

:o at Slobadan and Aintree! DH wanted our boy to be called Beck which I quite like, but with Barker as a surname it sounds a bit like Boris Becker!

laylasmummy09 · 20/01/2012 16:47

Ha ha love the conception stories, my DH went away for a stag weekend on the day of the royal wedding and he missed me Blush we had been trying but after 2 miscarriages it was the last month I was willing to try as I'd counted 9 months on to DD starting nursery and I'd have gone back to work, we thought we had missed the window as I got loads of negative pg tests and I'd decided it was fine we would be happy spoiling DD but when af still didn't turn up I saw doc who told me I was pregnant, I was soo happy it was the best gift DH could have bought back xxx

Capybara · 20/01/2012 16:56

Just thought I'd add my voice to the chorus of still-mums-to-be :)

Today is my due date (!) There have been some signs of action: baby has definitely dropped, and I've had some show(s?) this week (Wednesday and yesterday), but had a sweep on Monday, so might just be due to that. I find the not-knowing quite difficult - keep complaining to OH that I feel like an unexploded landmine - who knows when it (I) might go off!

Otherwise - Parsley, sounds like you've had a terrible time :( Really hope the long wait comes to an end soon.

shonnomanom · 20/01/2012 18:22

Loving the conception stories ladies. We had been ttc for nearly 3years and was actually Desperate Housewives inspired. I had watched a rerun where lynette and tom were slicing up their sexlife by dtd everyday for a month. A month wasn't practical as I was going to visit family down south for a week. Needless to say I'm now sitting with baby Charlie sleeping in my arms Grin

However we did poas the day after the wedding...

Some Thanks for you lovely ladies x

Karmanna · 20/01/2012 19:14

Argh!! Getting increasingly annoyed with people asking for news. I don't mind family and close friends asking, but I've had a colleague today who sent me a 'No baby yet?' message on fb and when I didnt reply straight away she sent me a text! Just felt like telling her to F off but I'm too polite. She's not even someone I get one with particularly well, and to top it all off Ive just had an email from Pampers with the subject line: 'Your newborn' Angry

You'd think if they know so much about pregnancy and babies they'd know that a big proportion are late!! Grr...

Sorry, rant over!!

Well kazabian rocked and smurf danced like crazy but no signs so off to bed!

ghosteditor · 21/01/2012 08:10

Oeisha that sounds promising! With my first real contraction (the painful kind!) I had to rush to the loo to clear things out - most unpleasant! What I also didn't expect was how much bleeding I would have leading up to full dilation - still not sure if that was just me but there was quite a lot!

Wishing squeezy thoughts to the rest of you - late pregnancy is so so unpleasant! My heartburn is gone completely and I've enjoyed bending down to pick things up, but due to hospital stay haven't actually worn shoes yet!

ghosteditor · 21/01/2012 08:10

Unfortunately we're still in hospital as my BP isn't really responding to meds and is spiking very high still. They've now doubled my dose which seems to be helping, but causes the most crippling headaches - just what a I need with a new baby and on a boiling hot noisy ward. I'm desperate to go home and am convinced I'd do better there!

Jools was less of an angel last night and just wanted to feed/be held constantly. They're officially anti co-sleeping at the NHS so I'm not supposed to have her in bed with me, but at 4am with no sleep I caved and put the bed sides up, squished myself in a corner, and put her in the middle. She's so much happier now and I've slept a bit too. Much safer than risking being squashed by an exhausted mummy who's passed out, I think...

Hopefully the review of my case won't take until 7pm today - there might be tears if I can't go home...

Oeisha · 21/01/2012 08:56

So, no change here...other than a terible nights sleep thanks to the bloody wind.

ghost Stepping Hill had cots that could clip to the side of the bed. Not quite co-sleeping, but you'd def. be closer than with the usual fishtanks on wheels style ones! They didn't seem to be 'as standard' but were available. Might be worth an ask/go!?

Hi everyone

Well after 8 days of being overdue, 10 hours of labour and another emcs - my gorgeous little boy arrived on Tuesday 17th Jan! He is called Joe Alexander, and is very lovely! Got home on Thursday, but struggling with breast feeding -it's bloody agony!

Will catch up with rest of thread later, congratulations to any new mummies!

ghosteditor · 21/01/2012 08:58

Thanks oeisha, that's good to know, will ask. That's what we're going to use at home anyway!

ghosteditor · 21/01/2012 08:59

Congratulations buzz! That's a lovely name - hope you're recovering well!

Oeisha · 21/01/2012 09:03

Morning all.
Congratulations buzz, and welcome Joe.
I was at the hospital for just over an hour last night, not too bad, turns out I'm very sore and inflamed down below, were not sure what's causing it, possibly thrush. have to wait on swab results and probably end up on antibiotics. This pg malarky is just glamorous!

Ghost hope you manage to get a side by side cot

Moobee · 21/01/2012 10:07

Welcome Joe and congratulations Buzz! Thanks

Ghost - I had the same problem - she wanted to be held all the time and after such a wait to be induced and a 24 hour labour, I was exhausted. Every time I blinked I'd start dreaming.

The JR helped me put the sides of the bed up to make it a bit safer. The Wallingford unit had things that tucked under the mattress and formed a wall at the side of the bed. They were good but I don't think JR have them. Take opportunity to sleep whenever you can and I hope your blood pressure sorts itself soon.
