Oi I was just changing minimopsy there and was reminded of something you said a little while ago-she has a fat round little belly and tiny bandy legs!!! Aww so cute though all snuggled up.

aethelfleda · 11/01/2012 05:34

Feed time again!

mopsy, totally get the concern re washing space: I have no dryer and use a trusty clothes airer at home. One babys worth of cloth naplpies including overnights makes a half load of washing every other day.what i'd recommend if yoi're keen on the idea is a compromise that works well when drying apace is limited called "part-time nappying". This is dead simple; your baseline is normal disposable use for overnights, trips away and when you are waiting for your nappies to dry. Every time you use yoir cloth ones you've "saved" using a paper one. If you only get 6 nappies that will do one day, then wash em in the evening, they will dry overnight on the dryer. Getting 10-12 nappies will do you two days worth and then washbevery second day, just use disposables for overnight and til the cloth onesnhave dried again. .tThere are lots of differerent brands, shapes and types of nappies, I think you' d do best with a small numner of two part nappies like motherease onesize or terry cotton "little lambs " depending on babies shape and your budget: pM me if you'd like to chat specifics so we don't clog the thread? Don't buy a ton of any one make as people will try to sell you bulk packs but you need to find the brand that fits minimopsy well by getting a few diff ones (I can link you to different trial packs/tryout sites).

OiMissus · 11/01/2012 05:39

Just done feed 2, and he filled the clean nappy just as I was buttoning him up... Next!
Still bandy legged but can push himself up to assisted standing. He's so strong!

msbuggywinkle · 11/01/2012 08:33

Morning!

Thankfully, everyone slept well last night...I went to sleep at 9pm, Miri woke us once for a nappy change and milk (she has stopped pooing at night now, goes twice in the afternoon).

mopsy and figgy great that you are both feeling more relaxed about mixed feeding!

Plan for today...relaxing on the sofa as we have a busy rest of week!

KateM77 · 11/01/2012 09:36

Anyone got a spare haddock knocking about?

Why do men think that telling you to calm down will actually make you calm down?

Had an awful night with DS. Had the whole feed, burp, grizzle routine on repeat from 9-10.30, 12.30-2.30 and 3.15-5.15 last night. Then DD woke at 7 and DS again shortly afterwards. I'm exhausted and think I had every right to stomp about a bit at 3.15 after so little sleep. DH briefly rousing from snoring to tell me to be calm was not helpful!

Just hope I'm not too tired and grumpy with DD today, who has been an absolute angel on the whole.

Sorry for 'me' post. Needed to vent.

DeckTheHawthersWithBells · 11/01/2012 09:41

DS born 28 December 7lb 4oz. Is that all I need to add?

Hmm had other thoughts but cimpletely forgotten them. Oh I vote for metanium. Re settling, we swaddle but also rock, juggle, sway, swing, beg. Anything.

Haddock for SPa who open mouths without engaging brains.

SoTiredoftheWheelsontheBus · 11/01/2012 10:07

I've updated my stats on the other thread - sorry it took me so long!

figgyand chinchilla - I have a moby wrap too. I've used mine out of
the house a coupleof times, but feel that ds is quite high up in it (using the newborn hug hold). I know it says you should be able to kiss their heads, that means they are at the right height, so he is, but then it feels as if he's not secure in the side bits - it's only the middle section pulled up that seems to be supporting him. I've looked at the videos on you tube, so think I've got the positioning right - how are you finding it? I also find at the moment that for longer walks I prefer using the buggy, as I can lean on it, but use the wrap for shorter distances.

DS had a monster feed last night, from about 7.30 until 10.30, then the little monkey just sat and gazed around without going back to sleep. I put him down in the moses basket and I got all of 20 minutes sleep, before he started crying again at 11.30. Thankfully after all that milk, he only woke up once after that, so I'm feeling more human this morning. Still haven't managed to have breakfast yet, but am showered, dressed and got ds1 to school without too many tantrums this morning.

I've been using Kamillosan (sp?) to hold off potential nappy-rash issues, but have been given some Neal's Yard baby cream as well, which smells really nice.

My local surestart centre is starting baby massage classes next week, so we're all signed up for those. I did a massage class with ds1 when he was a similar age, and massage made up part of his bedtime routine for ages. He still likes to have his back stroked when he goes to bed now, usually when we're talking about his day.

We've had more success with ds2's bathtimes since we've discovered that puttinghim in the bath with his big brother means that he's so busy watching to see what ds1 will do that he forgets to cry

MissRee · 11/01/2012 10:30

Am exhausted... 30 odd hours from first cx and STILL no closer to meeting baby. They've definitely ramped up a gear now and are massively painful and lasting more than a minute but because they're not "regular" (i.e. I can only say 3-5 minutes), the hospital don't want to know yet. I'm to phone back when they're clockwork to every 2 minutes Sad they don't even want me in for my induction now as I'm already contracting.

I'm EXHAUSTED.

mopsytop · 11/01/2012 11:30

Poor you MissRee, that sounds pants :( have you tried a warm bath? I found it a bit helpful but it depends on the individual I guess.

Mum and Dad just left, so feeling a bit sad. Won't see them for weeks now as they live in Ireland. Hopefully mum can come over again in late February or early March. I have really really wished I lived at home since having minimopsy. All my siblings are there too & my sis is due with her first in 5 weeks. Wd be so fab to be close by :( not an option to move home though, especially given the dire economic situation over there.

AnAirOfHope · 11/01/2012 11:42

Morning

(I'm so tired, i need sleep, i'm grumpy)

I wanted to stop bf last night as i just had enough - but i'm more posative now!

Hope had wind and was awake feeding and crying all night finaly going to sleep at 6am Sad

I'm using bert bee bum cream for nappy area and sudocrem for son's eczma. I have not tackled Hope's cradle cap yet Sad

Dishwasher here yay Grin

AWomanCalledHorse · 11/01/2012 12:29

Just a quick 'me' post before I read through the thread; Can I add Infacol to the milk instead of giving it from dropper??

OiMissus · 11/01/2012 13:10

^MissRee it may not feel like it, but with every cx you are a little bit closer to meeting your LO. Chin up, he/she is firmly on her way!
air congrats on the dishwasher! I've been in this rented house for 6 days now, and my hatred of washing up has been reconfirmed. And because I'm at home and DH is working, then all housework belongs to me. Yawn.
I've kept my cleaner for the 2hrs a week though. Grin She's coming today. I've not touched the ironing. (I hate ironing even more than washing up!)
I've just settled LO so will make a start on the work from yesterday's meeting. And a coffee.

Mmmmcheese · 11/01/2012 13:39

I hope seven and kristy are ok, not heard from them for ages.

BeeMyBaby · 11/01/2012 14:27

missree if it gets too painful to cope with at home then you should just phone and insist on going in - I never timed contractions with DD1 and just insisted on going in, and for DD2 they were 4 mins apart when I couldn't take it anymore (45min car journey to hospital). I;ve never heard if having to wait till they are two mins apart before letting you go into the hospital, is it very close to you?

I've been using my moby round the house but tried using it in town with a giant baby bear suit and it did not work at all, so will stick to the bjorn when outside until a) the weather improves and bear suit is no longer required; b) DD2 gets taller and bjorn starts to hang her by her crotch whereas she is in a nice sitting position at the mo

I've updated the stats thread for hawthers, LMF, mopsy and benny.

Please again, could others add their stats to this thread which I will add to the stats thread myself, or directly to the stats thread.

NorthernChinchilla · 11/01/2012 15:56

Well, sacrificing the chickens obviously worked (as well as bf'ing a very unhappy little man bloody nigh-on constantly for 12 hours, that may have had something to do with it- his upset insides were actually of use, IYSWIM) as pink booby has gone.
I was dreading it not improving aethel as I think the anti-bs are what upset LO and would've been gutted to take more, so am so glad I didn't have to go to doc's.

And my vote would go for 'trouble with dribbles', loved that episode, who doesn't- tribbles are so cute?! (Realise that's probably going to be 'everyone' Blush )

Oi, think everyone's covered the settling stuff, wish I knew too. Boob and more boob is all that works here...am trying dummies here and there with a little success- but the total look of disgust it appears he's giving me when he works it out is something to behold!
And on that note- why oh why will mine settle, awake, for about half an hour on his cold, plastic change mat on the floor but scream blue murder instantly in his nice, comfy moses, WHY?

You're brave going by plane figgy, that is going to be some journey, but I have every faith you'll manage.

Have tried moby a couple of times now- think a problem I'm going to have is because LO is so bloody long, he feels a bit too big for the newborn hug hold, but is too little for the general hold. Not sure what the answer there will be, but it's only my first go so will keep on trying.

msb- is the 'not pooing at night' thing something to do with either bed sharing or bf'ing, as I was commenting on our sprog not doing this to DP just this morning?

So sorry to hear you're in pain and not yet actually in hospital and going for it misree, and only hope it'll kick off properly soon.

msbuggywinkle · 11/01/2012 16:16

chinchilla no idea, I don't think it is as the other two both did it later than Miri!

jigglebum · 11/01/2012 16:31

My settling technique is to feed too! seems to work without fail! dh does the walking round, cuddling thing and seems to work better for him. tbh she is not a massive crier. we've had no success with a dummy as yet but agree with whoever said it helped their elder one to be a good sleeper - ds still has them at night and is asleep in minutes generally and looks forward to going to bed to get the dummy.

we are slowly having some success with the moses basket so not having to co sleep all night now. freya still feeds ever 2 hours on average but with the bottle dh gives her at night i get one 4 hour stretch of sleep if i am lucky.

feel sorry for the number of disrupted feeds freya gets - I have to pop her off the breast all the time to sort things out for ds (eg when he needs the toilet) anyone else have problems with this? sure it does not help her tummy troubles.

good luck missree.

stats -dd freya - 7lbs, born 11/12/11

aethelfleda · 11/01/2012 16:41

Missree, if you're really incomfortable and can cope with

aethelfleda · 11/01/2012 16:46

Missree, if you're really incomfortable and can cope with Potentially being sent home again, ring the hospital back and say they are regular and ramping up and you really need to see someone. They are not allowed to refuse to see you, they can't tell how much pain you're in, and some ladies contract more regularly than others. Seriously, if younare feeling grotty ring them back again. At least then they can examine younand tell you if things are starting to dilate (and ifntheybare kind they might sweep you again to encourage things a bit). Oh and take two paracetamol before you ring, then you can truthfully say you've taken paracetamol and it's not touching the pain. Good luck hon, you're getting closer to meeting baby!!

OiMissus · 11/01/2012 17:28

We've not heard from MissRee since 10:30am, I'm guessing that MiniMissRee may have arrived - or is in the process of arriving. :)
Pom pom pom pom pom!

aethelfleda · 11/01/2012 17:51

Ooh lovely oi, I didn't spot the timing of that post- hooray!

also, well done northern for feeding through the sore boob, hope it's all settled now.

I have a sinking suspicion I may be up all night with DS: he's pooing like a trooper and seems rather hungry..,

LittleMissFlustered · 11/01/2012 19:36

HOME!

OP posts:
NorthernChinchilla · 11/01/2012 20:15

Yay, LMF, so glad you're home, shake those pom poms for yourself as well!

And let's all have everything crossed that it's working out for MissRee at the moment, and that we can shuffle over to post natal any day soon Smile.

Thanks aethel- it was not a pleasant experience, and having it combined with LO screaming for hours and DP returning to work was the pits- although in light of what others on this thread have been through, nowt in comparison. Hope your DS gives you some peace overnight, or at least a few hours of unbroken sleep...

Also (she says touching wood, clutching a rabbit's foot and searching out black cats, not to mention waving lucky pompoms) it does appear that it was the anti-bs to blame for LO's gastric screaming as it were. It stated that you couldn't touch alcohol for two days after you'd had them, ie. that they'd remain in your system for a while after you finished them. I had the last ones on Monday, and today he's not had any problems, after five days of unhappiness.

DeckTheHawthersWithBells · 11/01/2012 20:17

Massive pom poms for lmf. Go home, shut the door, take the phone off the hook and ignore everyone. Hope you enjoy the newly discharged waltz where you merely enjoy walking around your house holding octoboy and marvelling at having no wires, tubes or cabling attached. Much love h x

aethelfleda · 11/01/2012 20:21

Yay for LMF!! wonderful news and enjoy Octoboy and your DCs too xxx
