Just checking in

Sat in a and e with mini hawthers who may have an infection. He's had a lumbar puncture, chest x ray and loads of bloods taken already. Trying not to shit myself too much.

P.s. hope anyone didn't think I agreed with tinsel's fil. I don't but have a similar twat of a fil so can sympathise with her as have been on the receiving end of the same kind of bullshit

LittleMissFlustered · 05/01/2012 08:51

The only thing any of us assumed was that you'd been on the receiving end of similar family twattery Hawthers

I hope you're out of A&E soon and that all's well. Miniature fluffy pompoms for the mini-man:)

No change here. Disliking the fact that every time I stand up I have to lean on something to get my balance and let the downward pain and pressure reach a level of equilibrium. Kids and inoff out to do some odd jobs today, but I may swing them past a playbarn at some point as they're crawling up the walls too bless them!

Hawthers Thinking of you and hope MiniHawthers is better soon and it's nothing to serious.

As for co-sleeping Sky slept most of the night in her Moses basket. When she didn't want to anymore, she either sleeps on her tummy on my chest or in the crook of my arm!

She's just done an epic puking tho!

hopeful1 · 05/01/2012 10:04

Oi - congratulations on the move, wow what an incredibly busy time for you

Msb - would love to go in to labour naturally but they said it would be very unlikely!

Hawthers - so sorry to hear mini hawthers is unwell, I hope everything comes back negative!

LMF - I am with you on the uncomfortable stakes, I have 10lbs of weight resting on my cervix everytime I stand upGrin there is nothing glamorous about pregnancy Blush

Sitting at hospital having my glucose tolerance test which I thought was a simple blood test turns out is a 2 hour processSad

msbuggywinkle · 05/01/2012 10:12

hawthers lots of sympathy, we had this with DD1. She did have an infection, but dealing with it was simple, 5 days of antibiotics sorted it out and then we were back home. Make sure you take care of yourself too, as hard as it is to think of anything but minih. Can you get someone to bring food in for you?

OiMissus · 05/01/2012 11:20

Heartfelt sympathies hawthers and minih. X
msb you aren't so far from me, so where's this decent weather for playing out in?! we've had torrential rains and winds all night and this morning.
Good luck for the Tenacious Trio! Pom-poms are ready and waiting.
Right. Kitchen sortage next. Smile

LittleMissFlustered · 05/01/2012 11:34

hopeful did they not warn you about the tolerance test? Evil f them if not. It's a pain in the rectum, and a trial on the stomach as the sugary water is vile!

Blowing good here, but bright. We've braved town and are having sustaining coffee/hot chocolate before we tackle trouser shopping:o

oi it buggered off as soon as we stepped out of the front door! The wind is too much for DD2 to stand up in again now, fence panel is down again and is being blown around the garden!

My garden has been totally trashed by the winds, I will have to start again when the weather gets a bit better!

MissRee · 05/01/2012 12:15

Ooh you ladies who had sweeps, will I need to stick a sanny pad/maternity pad in my handbag "just in case"??? Blush

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 05/01/2012 12:19

We had Sky weighed today and she's now 7lbs 8oz so 3oz more than her birth weight Grin

DP has made me a lovely jacket spud with melted cheese & chilli on top for lunch yum yum.

KateM77 · 05/01/2012 12:25

Thinking of you hawthers

Good luck to Hopeful and MissRee (and yes, take a pad wwith you to the sweep)

Oi pleased the house move went well

and

Been to GP. My cervix looks fine and healthy, but as suspected my vaginal wall has dropped slightly. The GP has referred me to hospital, and they will decide whether they need to do a repair or not. Meantime I've got to keep on with the pelvic floor exercises.

On the plus side it's all going well with the kids. After a few days of being unsettled and not wanting to be put down or sleep in his moses basket, DS suddenly went back to it from yesterday evening onwards, so I had a pretty good night and have been able to play with DD this morning without having DS attached to me in one form or another :)

HoneyLovesChristmasCake · 05/01/2012 12:55

hawthers so sorry to hear about mini h; I am cringing at the thought of a lumbar puncture :(

Oi congrats on the move...does this mean you finally get to unpack your lovely nursery furniture?

mmm don't know about how safe it's considered but I regularly fall asleep with Rocco on my chest because I'm nursing laidback now to try to reduce fast let down & I'm trying to keep him upright after nursing to reduce trapped wind & he's nursing so much at night right now so there's rarely enough time to lie down before the next feed.

Not really helpful but I feel perfectly safe sleeping like this with him as I have a firm grip even when sleeping & I wake if he wriggles even a little bit & I'm exhausted so I think I'm sleeping as deeply as I'm able. As for the tummy lying; I think though I may be wrong that them lying on their backs has more to do with keeping their faces unobstructed by bedding than anything else, after all babies are meant to be put on their tummies when they're awake to help with their development.

Mmmmcheese · 05/01/2012 13:16

I'm in hospital with DD too :( suspected bronchiolitis. I took her to the GP this morning as was worried her breathing was a bit fast, convinced I was being a neurotic mum, but GP sent us to hospital and we'll probably have to stay in 2+ days. Luckily we're staying with my parents so DS is happy with them. Can't believe we have more illness to get through though7!

DD is doing ok, they were worried about her oxygen levels as she is finding breathing hard work but so far they're not low enough for her to need any oxygen. They're also threatening her with a feeding tube as they want to make sure she's getting enough but so far I have convinced them she doesn't need it as although I need to wake her to feed, when she does she is now pretty much draining my boonb and has lots of wet and dirty nappies so I really don't think its necessary. Obviously if she needs one that's fine but I am concerned they only want to give her one so they can tell how many mls she's had, and not because she actually needs it.

hawthers hope it turns out to be nothing serious.

honey that makes sense about the feeding and makes me feel better about it.

aethelfleda · 05/01/2012 13:37

Oh no hawthers, poor you and mini-H. Hopefully by the time you read this the docs will have some reassuring results for you, hope all is clear (or they find a cause and start some treatment for mini-H. Good luck!

honey, no-one knows exactly why backsleeping is better: it just seems to be in the grand scheme of things. Its more the squashing risk with co sleeping which is why occasionally a parent will be drunk/drugged and roll on their child, the risk is higher if sleeping in non-flat areas like on a sofa or chair.

I got an extra hour before lunch as Albert decided to nap. Yay! Though I've asked if the midwife can check my stitches as things are a bit sore down there and I wonder if it's getting infected

aethelfleda · 05/01/2012 13:40

Oh no mmm, not you in hospital with DD too! Hope it all passes smoothly, you're clearly a sensible mummy with good "spidersense" about your LO.

aethelfleda · 05/01/2012 13:45

And just to clarify as I think I was a bit unclear earlier: the whole sleeping kn back is safer thing is for a baby you are not actively watching, i.e. a baby in a cot or where you are asleep too. It's completely OK to have baby lying asleep on their tummy on you for as long as you like if you're awake/alert and can keep an eye on them. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression.

DeckTheHawthersWithBells · 05/01/2012 13:55

mmm so sorry to hear you are staying st the bha' pleasure too. Hope your dd improves rapidly.

Mini h is now hooked up to all sorts (o2, ng tube, cannulas in both arms, sats monitor and apnea mat). They suspect an infection although all results clear. Iv antibiotics seem to be perking him up but means at least a 10 day stay. Dh very upset. Me too

Figgygal · 05/01/2012 14:11

Sorry to hear some of you ladies are back in hospital with little ones I felt bad enough last week in there because of weight loss but at least all I had to do was top up with formula. Hope they take great care of you and you can get home soon.

Danny slept from 11-4 then 5-9 last night soooo needed to catch up on some sleep bless him for arranging it. Been to MW today and they've discharged us as he's back over his birth weight and doing fine. There's still no sign of an increase in breast milk so although we still breasting and expressing fir calories he is still dependent on the formula. I am going to go to local BF group next week speak to HV there and should hear from own HV soon hopefully they can advise further as to how long should continue with the feeding regime part of me thinks anything he can get is better than nothing then I think it's so little can it actually be of any benefit!

Both MWs I saw this morning were talking about contraception with me .........it's really not going to be an issue for a while.....a long while scared of Idea following stitches and tear.

bennybenbear · 05/01/2012 14:39

Hope the little ones back in hospital progress well and you get home soon.

Glad the move went well Oi.

We're still struggling with feeding here, had midwife out again today. figgy sounds like we trying a similar routine to you- breast, express, formula. I've only done it for 24 hours but I am shattered and struggling to cope. It takes 2 hours out of every 3 so I have had hardly any sleep or time to eat let alone enjoy playing and spending time with the little man. My production is not increasing and am getting less and less when expressing. Think I am going to have to give up and mainly formula feed with breast top ups where possible or for comfort. It's been such a hard decision but he needs to get enough calories to grow.

HoneyLovesChristmasCake · 05/01/2012 14:40

((hugs)) to mmm & hawthers

Thanks for the info on tummy lying aethel I'm hoping the night nursing will calm down a bit soon as I'm getting a stiff neck from holding him still all night & I'm sooo tired. I think we may be going through another growth spurt though so hopefully this will pass.

Figgygal · 05/01/2012 15:15

Benny I've been doing this since he was 4 days old he's now 14 days with no improvements. DH is trying to support as much as he can by doing the bottle feeds so I can express but it's hard with the sterilising and bottles and angry baby screaming at me as he gets so frustrated on the breast. I'm giving it until he is a month old and if still no improvement then am going to admit defeat Sad

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 05/01/2012 15:30

Mmmm Sorry to see your back in hospital with DD. hopefully you'll be home soon.

mopsytop · 05/01/2012 15:31

benny and figgy I'm in exact same boat. Want to continue as long as poss but it's so time consuming.

Really sorry to hear about having to go back into hospital with your babies. I hope they're ok. How stressful and upsetting :(

BeeMyBaby · 05/01/2012 16:25

So Hawwa has had a cold and cough with lots and lots of mucus so after thinking I was home free with BFing it has significantly gone down hill in the last two days and my breasts feel empty and I'm not getting my usual leakage. Yesterday she was feeding for 7 hours (with maybe 15-30 mins between feeds at most with her grizzling or crying as I needed a break and to tend to DD1) which also meant that she had 7 hours of awake time - which ended with me giving her 8mls of formula and her vomiting it back at me, which was then followed by 5pm-10am of sleeping, waking for about 3 mins to make a pitiful attempt at feeding then back to sleep for 2 hours. I phoned the HV who was nice but not all that helpful, but did say I didn't need to give formula as she is still producing wet nappies - anyone else's baby had mammoth awake sessions? She refused to sleep even when I took her in he pushchair for 45 mins (had to try to feed her in the middle of it because she started to cry). Also, after having bleeding on/off since my lochia stopped, I now seem to be having my period OUTRAGED Does anyone know if this can reduce milk production?

DH and DD1 are off on holiday to visit his family tomorrow so I think I might start expressing after each feed again to try get my supply up, but I'm finding it too hard to express just now whilst looking after DD1 as well (who we have almost finished potty training in the last week, woo!).
