Morning!

missree hope you a snuggling a newborn now!

aethel in our house it is Mummy and Daddy being there that prevent the bad dreams!

lmf great news, hope today goes smoothly and that he is home soon.

Well, here the quest to get the creatures out of the house on my own continues! Didn't work yesterday so we made plaster of Paris models, painted and baked instead...today I will be attempting to go to home ed group!

MissRee · 10/01/2012 08:32

Still getting cx but they seem to have slowed now... thats nearly 7 hours and counting!!! Hospital said to call back when they're every 3 minutes and lasting 60 seconds.

Just showered, put bags and car seat in the car and currently waiting for DP to fetch me a bacon sammidge Grin

LittleMissFlustered · 10/01/2012 08:58

mopsy the cuddledry towels are like an apron and attach around the neck so you don't get wet when taking baby out and no need to hold the towel in your teeth etc. Its better for first time mothers as those on second babies will have got the nack but I still find them very good as I was terrified of bathing DD1 at first (she was over 6 weeks old before I plucked up the courage to bath her on my own) and nervous again with DD2 so it jut helped my confidence as it was one less thing to think about. SIL was also nervous bathing her DD1 so I thought it would be useful for her DD2 as well. Its not necessary and a normal towel will obviously do fine but as I said, if bathing a baby terrifies you (baby + water = very slippy) then its excellent.

missree are the cxs getting more painful though?

lmf thats really good news, do you have any idea how long he will need to stay in scbu for?

Mmmmcheese · 10/01/2012 10:26

I got 5 hrs sleep last night! That might not seem much to some of you but compared to 2/3 hrs its amazing!

I have a question: DD often gets agitated when she's tired and wants to sleep and makes mouthing movements like she does when she's hungry. If I put her to the breast she will suck half-heartedly but I have a really quick let down so she ends up having to swallow quite a lot of milk and if she's already had a full feed she ends up being sick. I actually bought some dummies yesterday thinking this is what she wanted but she doesn't seem to like them (yet anyway). Does anyone else have this problem?

I think it was air talking about dry skin? I really like Waitrose bottom butter - its only £2 or so a tub and is only made from olive oil and chamomile, nothing else. It seems to clear up dry skin on babies really quickly.

Also. I tHink someone mentioned nappy rash the other day? We experimented loads with different brands when DS was teething as it gave him acidic poo and nappy rash, and we now swear by Bepanthen. I think its amazing stuff. DD was a bit sore the other day and after one application all the redness was gone. Hope that helps someone!

Figgygal · 10/01/2012 11:15

I'm off to my BF group at midday and then HV this afternoon I need a kick up the arse with the BFing had a screaming boy this morning because he was so hungry which has given me a headache and 40 minutes of hand and electric pumping has rendered about 5ml of milk, I've had enough now. Sad

OiMissus · 10/01/2012 11:35

Morning! Good luck MissRee, so happy that you're cx's have started before induction. Fingers crossed that all goes well.
In the old house we had one night where Ali slept for 6 hrs during the night. But that hasn't happened here yet. Still, he's not so bad. We went to bed at 11, and he woke for feeds at 1:30, 4:00, and 7:30, and he settled quite well in between. I'm a bit worried that I'm so used to his grizzles, grunts and cries (and tired) that I'm beginning to sleep through them. Not good!
He's fed on the hour since 7:30... But I've just got him to sleep - and I have a visitor from work due in 20 mins. Perfect!
(11:30 - am showered, hair washed and dried, baby bathed, dressed, fed and settled, kitchen tidied, washed up,... Impressed! I've got to get to this stage before 9:30am - but I only bathe him every 4-6 days).

AnAirOfHope · 10/01/2012 12:39

Good afternoon everyone

we are all up washed and dressed and house cleaned - SW called at the time she should be here to say she was not coming!

Hope is still ill and was up from 10 pm till 3am feeding/sleeping waking and screaming then repeat then slept from 3am til 7am and awake till 10am till now. So 4 hours sleep not bad normaly its only 3.

I'm excited about our new dishwasher i have lived her for 7 years with out one so its going to be so good. Now i need to save up for a 12kg washing machine Grin

Good luck Missree
Thinking of you LMF hope son gets better and is home soon.

AWomanCalledHorse · 10/01/2012 12:55

Dh is back at work today, he's been gone an hour; eleven more to go (not that I'm counting)!
Although to relieve the bordem of having a child stuck to my lap DH is buying me either a tablet thing or a netbook (this laptop is waaay too big to balance on bed), has anyone got one of either they could recommend?

MissRee, my pompoms are still a-shaking!
Oi, glad DS calmed down in time for vistor!

MissRee · 10/01/2012 12:57

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaah they've all but stopped SadSadSad

aethelfleda · 10/01/2012 13:11

Oh, how annoying for you missree: but they will probably start up again this evening, hopefully progressing. Every single contraction is preparing you for labour now so keep yourself as comfy as you can, maybe a short walk this pm if you can manage it, and hopefully you will be well prepared. Often if you have pre-labour, even if you get to the induction appointment, all you need is a single pessary and whomph, off you go. Lets hope it all kicks off later!!

KateM77 · 10/01/2012 13:47

Hi all. trying desperately to keep up with the thread but struggling to find time between looking after the two kids.

Good luck MissRee hope things start naturally before tomorrow.

Hope baby home soon LMF sounds like there's been progress

Dry skin: I was advised to use olive oil on baby, and I use Oilatum junior cream on DD when she needs it. For nappy rash I use Bepanthen, which can be used as often as you need to. Be careful of using Sudocrem too often as it can thin the skin (or so I was told by DD's nursery)

DS weighed at HV clinic today. Firmly on 91st percentile and now 10lb 15oz at 24 days old. DD was 3 months old before she weighed as much!

Discovered how very far baby poo can travel across a room when uncontained by a nappy, and just how much of it there can be to clean up!

Had a mild panic when I got a letter with results of the heel prick test. The MW had said we'd only hear if there was a problem but it seems that's not the case as thankfully all results normal :)

aethelfleda · 10/01/2012 14:08

Hi kate: I think someone at your nursery was getting confused between sudocrem and steroid cream (like hydrocortisone, used for flareups of eczema). Steroid creams do thin the skin if they are used too often or for more than two weeks at a time. But sudocrem is a barrier cream (zinc oxide based) and doesnt have any steroid in it. Here's a link to sudocrems own website that states there's no limit on how much you can use it. sidocrem website

DarcieandSkysmum · 10/01/2012 14:59

Will have a good read later but so excited - DP & I have just booked our honeymoon we're off to St Lucia Grin for 11 whole days child free!

Sky has a rash all over her body and seems very grizzly so we are off to docs at 4:40 Sad

HoneyLovesChristmasCake · 10/01/2012 15:34

Hi all! Hope you're all well today...not too tired!

Good luck MissRee I hope things progress naturally for you soon.

Baby skincare: I'm using Cowshed or Burt's Bees products as they're organic, paraben & SLS-free; I'm very happy with them especially the Baby Bee Diaper Ointment.

Had a serious wobble yesterday which I now think was due to sleep deprivation but at the time felt scarily like the onset of depression. Feeling much better today though; Rocco fed easily last night (for the first time in almost 2 wks) with no tears due to my let down & was fast asleep shortly after 11. However, I was still awake at 1am (& shed a few tears of my own) due to insomnia rearing it's ugly head....how can I be so tired & yet not fall asleep Confused I just couldn't clear my head with MIL's funeral on Friday & worry about my mental health.

I managed 6-7 hours of sleep somehow (broken up with bfing & nappy changes obviously) by not getting out of bed 'til 11am & things do look a bit brighter thank goodness! Terrified at the thought of getting PND as DP would clearly be no help at all...everything he said to me made me feel 100xworse e.g "I thought you'd be in your element by now, not like this"; "you're really struggling aren't you" ; " you do still love DS don't you?" & best of all "maybe you should give up BFing, maybe you just can't manage it"

Anyway, doesn't matter now, I know he meant well...I just needed to vent a bit :)

Had a bath with DS today which solves the problem of how to wash when LO insists on being held constantly...it was ace; he seemed to like the extra freedom of a big bath & managed to push himself up to BF :) I'd better go & get ready as we're supposed to pop around to neighbours house for a Brew

Sorry for the mammoth mememe post...once I started typing I couldn't stop Blush

AnAirOfHope · 10/01/2012 16:49

Honey - sending you a haddock for your DP - tell him he needs to be more supportive.

Darcie - congrats on honeymoon. (We went to Disneyworld and got married in the Wildrenes Lodge Hotel as we are just big kids at haert Blush)

BeeMyBaby · 10/01/2012 17:19

would it be possible for everyone who hasn't yet, to update their stats on the other thread so when we start a postnatal thread we will have all the birth dates as maybe the first or second post. It would also help to see who are active members (so could lurkers do this as well) as there are so many who joined the thread but have been too busy to carry on etc. Sorry if I seem bossy, don't mean to be, just thought it would be a nice way to start the new thread.

BeeMyBaby · 10/01/2012 17:24

or you got stick details in this thread (again sorry) as I have more time at the mo and can update the other thread, names stilll in the due date section are figgy benny awch mopsy darcie aethal and we need to add in missree when the time comes. Obviously LMF and Hawthers have more important things on their minds so I'll do a search later for their baby birth dates.

DarcieandSkysmum · 10/01/2012 17:39

Sky has picked up a virus of some sort which has brought her out in a rash Sad Dr said need to keep an eye on her esp her weight and her alertness. hoping it will pass soon x

BeeMyBaby · 10/01/2012 17:42

*or you could tick details...ugh major typos

Darcie are you going to get extra HV visits then to keep checking her weight?

BeeMyBaby · 10/01/2012 17:43

ugh - stick details. I'm not going to try correct myself anymore, just too many mistakes. You get the jist.

NorthernChinchilla · 10/01/2012 17:58

Any new thread with a Trekker title is good by me- personally am torn between long-time love of Jean-Luc Picard and adoration of the new film Smile.

HLC it does seem like your OH has not got the best way with words... Certainly this week, with the funeral coming up, just try to go with the flow- stay in bed and sleep/bf all day if needs be. You don't need the strain, and as long as your LO is thriving you'll be fine.

We had the worst start to our first week at home- at 10pm on Sunday night we were fine, by 11.30pm I had raging mastitis, felt like death, and LO set off on a 3 hour screaming session. Couldn't believe it could come on so quickly, and did not realise you sort of got the flu with it as well.

And poor wee man has been howling with the trapped wind; it went on til 2am, and as I felt so unwell was not going to bed share, so we both stayed up till 7am when I handed him over to OH (we'd got a couple of hours between 4 and 6) and I got a couple of hours kip.

Monday was therefore spent in bed til 6pm, feeding and sleeping and nothing else.

Today has been better, thank God! Have showered and managed housework, and sprog slept 12-6.45 (but then has only slept for 40 mins during the day, hence lack of MNing, grrrrrrr).

Moby wrap has landed, so will practise with that- figgy, how're you getting on with yours?

misree, I really hope they start up again, but at least you'll have a baby by the end of the week whatever happens (trying to be positive for you!)

And am trying not to be jealous darcies, that sounds amazing!

And in keeping with our fabulously glamorous lives at the moment, I'm off to massage pink, slightly lumpy boob!

DarcieandSkysmum · 10/01/2012 18:01

Bee I'll update the other thread when I'm not on iPad. Also our local child health clinic is up at the school so can get weighed there weekly x

NorthernChinchilla · 10/01/2012 18:01

And have added self to the list bee
