I love mine bee! and it's double layer makes it waterproof! Ali was enjoying a naked roll about on the towel, on the bed after a bath, and decided to pee... The towel held it in a little puddle, the bed remained completely dry! Am so impressed! (please excuse product endorsement. Promise I don't have any interests in the business!)

aethelfleda · 09/01/2012 18:44

Ever, oi? well, you don't have to, of course!!

Saw the midwife who was happy with DS's weight and feeding, looked at my bits and basically said it's not infected, just cone apart slightly, to sit it out wuss, just take painkillers :(. Trouble is I've got acreally tender bit that I think is over-granulated and am on max doses of ibuprofen & paracetamol. Codeine spaces me out and diclofenac makes me nauseous... So am grumbling, hope it gets less sore soon.

AnAirOfHope · 09/01/2012 19:03

aarrrr Aaron is driving me nuts. He is just not listening to us and is being so naughty right now. He is waking the baby by screaming at her! He has managed to trip and catch her with his arm, he has hit my DH and jumped on him and now he has taken his top off ( the only bit of clothing we could get on him).

I think its his age, the new baby, he is over tired, ill and kept in doors so he does not make anyone else ill. So i know why but its still hard to keep my cool around him right now as i had no sleep and i'm grumpy too. All this equall more bad mummy guilt for me as i just want him to be well and happy and nice to his sister Sad

Also after seeing the houspital feed me as i'm bf my DH has got the idea in his head and is stuffing veg and fruit down me! Yeasterday it was chicken with 5 different veg and tonight it was veg soup with fruit and youget for desert. He has even gone out and got bf vitamin tablets! I think he is worried about his DD Grin

Question: Hope has cradle cap and Air has a spot of eczema (both have dry skin) - what does everyone else use on their childrens dry skin? The nurse in hospital told me that johnsons was bad for dry skin but i dont know what else to use!

aethelfleda · 09/01/2012 19:21

air: dry skin is slways worse with frequent bathing as it strips off the natural oils. So only bathing twice a week is an effective way to reduce dryness. Avoid soaps and bubble baths containing SLS ( the thing that makes bubbles in bath products).
Moisturiser wise your GP can prescribe an emolient like e45, diprobase or unguentum to put on dry skin daily if there's actusl eczema, and theres an eczema-safe bath additive called oilatum you can use in the bath (careful tho as it makes them slippy!!)

aethelfleda · 09/01/2012 19:23

(we use e45 intermittently if the DDs get dry patches, but not all the time as they don't actually have eczema.

aethelfleda · 09/01/2012 19:29

air Here's a link about how to use moisturisers if you have dry skin/eczema. link

AnAirOfHope · 09/01/2012 19:52

Thanks for the advice & link.

jigglebum · 09/01/2012 20:45

not looking forward to tomorrow and weds - we are having our kitchen ceiling plastered and a door knocked through to the dining room. It is going to be chaos and no kitchen for 2 days. we are currently clearing the kitchen out (well dh is as I am feeding). Of course it should have happened last week when I was at my parents but didn't.

builders should finally be finished at the end of the week (though I am not holding my breath!) 4 weeks over schedule. then we need to strip out the kitchen, paint it etc and fit a new kitchen - more chaos. Lack of sleep definitely makes it harder to deal with. looking forward to when it is all finally done.

aethelfleda · 09/01/2012 21:13

Wow, good luck jigglebum : microwave meals and sarnies it is then?

BeeMyBaby · 09/01/2012 21:16

Oi my SIL also tested the towel with runny baby poop and again, nice and waterproof (and the stain came out in the wash beautifully).

BeeMyBaby · 09/01/2012 22:19

just realised that we haven't heard from Missree since she said she was having pains this morning. Has anything been decided for the name for the new postnatal thread which may need to be started very soon?

MissRee · 09/01/2012 22:50

Sorry to disappoint Bee but I'm STILL here... just catching up before bed Sad one more day til induction. Was hoping this full moon would work it's magic but no luck so far Angry

aethelfleda · 09/01/2012 22:52

OiMissus · 09/01/2012 23:03

December 2011 - Bring out the Brie, Booze ...and Boobs.
Or busters.
What a great word. Grin

mopsytop · 10/01/2012 00:36

Hi all. MissRee really hope things starr moving tonight on their own.

Just had over 3 hrs sleep as my habana did the pre- midnight shift. So if I get two more two hour stretches will be great! But he said she's been feeding on and off allevening analysis grizzling and won't settle- usually she settles down around now so fingers crossed!

V. headachy-I try and drink loads of water all day but had a glass of wine at dinner and got abad head. Any time I try have a drink this happens even though it is only the one. Maybe it is dehydration from bf/expressing in spite of all the water?

Hope all poorly babas well on the mend now. And I hope we all get some decent sleep tonight!

mopsytop · 10/01/2012 00:40

P.s. Is a cuddledry towel different to a normal baby towel with corner hood? I have several of those but not that brand. Don't know if mine are bottom-explosion proof!!

jiggle good luck w kitchen, hope it gets done fast!

AWomanCalledHorse · 10/01/2012 02:27

benny, bloody typical! Just bought a massive bottle of olive oil for baby! Thanks for letting me know about the grapeseed oil.

MissRee, we're in Bexleyheath, unfortunately Grin still out for you.

Our LO has a mix of 'hoodie' & old hand towels, I strip him off & wrap him in one for feeding/some nappy free time each day, tbh I don't really like the baby specific towels, but the hood part comes in handy as a wipe/glove when feeding!

Air, we're putting sudocream (well, boots own brand zinc cream) whereever LO has a sore spot/dry skin, it seems to be doing the job (no idea if it's the right thing to do)!

mopsytop · 10/01/2012 04:00

Hello middle of the night feeders! I wonder how many mums around the world are up in the dead of night feeding their babas? It's nice to think we're in company!

My head's got even worse, I guess I need to be drinking even more water than I already am-this bf/expressing is clearly a thirsty process! Annoyingly once I get a dehydration headache I can't just get rid of it by drinking more water. Or it takes hours. I guess I just need to be way more careful to drink a lot all day and also clearly - alas, alack - avoid alcohol. It seems extraordinary that only 1 small glass could cause a headache but it's happened a couple of times now. I guess if I haven't drunk quite enough water, it just tips me over the edge into dehydration. Boo though!!

MissRee · 10/01/2012 04:02

Defo get that post-natal thread going, seems that the final baby us on her way at last Grin

Been having regular painful cx for over 2 hours now, lasting 30-40 seconds and varying between 7-4 minutes... gonna jump in the shower shortly.

Glad I repacked my hospital bag yesterday now Grin

mopsytop · 10/01/2012 04:17

Ooh exciting MissRee - good luck, hope you have as speedy and pain free a labour as is possible and meet your baby soon!

aethelfleda · 10/01/2012 05:08

Yayy misree, how excitng!!! Loads of and let us know how it goes!! V happy for you xxx

Hope you and octoboy are doing OK lmf (((hug)))

Hate ro tell you mopsy my friendly night feed buddy, but even obe unit of booze gives me headaches when I breastfeed and two gives a royal hangover! It's to do with the fluid balance I think. Half a unit (querter glass wine/half a beer) is ok but hardly worth it!

aethelfleda · 10/01/2012 05:14

Oh and gave just had some in-bed conversation with DD2 while I was feeding DS (he gave me a 3 hour stretch from 1.39-4.30 tonight, but otherwise feeding on and off with a variety of grumbling).

Dd2: Mummy, I had abad dream, it was about a big trapdoor inna castke and I want a cuddle. Do beds make dreams or do people make dreams? I like this bed, it makes better dreams than my one .
4year old logic is marvellous :)

LittleMissFlustered · 10/01/2012 05:14

at the ready MissRee Hope its speedy and goes well:)

Sorry I've been AWOL folks. It's been a weird couple of days.

Octoboy is out of the nicu and down on the scbu now. I've just done a pump session so I've more milk to take in for him. Have done the dishes too. And filled the bin and put it out. Going to do the laundry next. Am not letting myself leave the house before 7:30 as that means by the time I get to the hospital the nurses will have done handover already.

Fingers crossed today goes as well as yesterday did.

Hope everyone else is having a good week. I'm sorry I'm not keeping up very well, but I'm using my phone and only check in every now and then.

Thread title idea for those of you with a Star Trek soul:

December 2011: bravely going forward, pausing only when we nurse...

Any yes, you will be humming that all day. It's life Jim...

Great to hear LO is improving *LMf+ and good luck with the housework.

My brain likes puns at stupid o'clock in the morning:

How about Dec 2011: There's Kling-ons on the Starboard Breast?
(no offence to those who are FF, but I liked Star Trekkin'!)
