Marking my place.

Thanks LMF hopefully your bubba will be here soon.

PLU epic post Grin

Wondering how I can get Sky to feed for longer in the night as the last few nights she's seemed rather grizzly. Shes on infacol, and don't really want her to have a dummy. It's getting her settled in her Moses basket after a feed that's the problem.

PludolphTheRedNosedReindeer · 04/01/2012 17:43

Ha, got the last word!

Tho' you madesure to get tge first wod again here, LMf!

GLAD TO HEAR A BOUT THE tooth..

(sorry to shout - typing one- and left-handed!)

msbuggywinkle · 04/01/2012 18:27

Can't help with settling in basket darcies but for feeding longer, breast compression is the 'go to' technique, switch nursing when the flow slows and she starts to get sleepy can help keep interest going too!

lmf love the title!

Marking place.

LittleMissFlustered · 04/01/2012 18:50

It suits my mood. I feel all stabby down below this afternoon. Had a nap while the kids watched a film and woke up feeling horrible. It's gone now, unless I'm sat for too long then stand up too quickly.

I'm going to adopt the nickelbabe word for the lower regions to amuse myself. Underbeneathsies. Go on, keep a straight face. I dare you:o

I'm keeping a straight face

Home! Am sore as needed some stitches but managed to avoid an episiotomy as they don't do them in water births. Albert's been very well behaved but that's cos I'm a hippy wuss and cuddle babies constantly, now need to dig out the moses basket sheet to try to get a few hours if i can. Last night I only had a couple of 45 minute dozes as he kept bringing up mucus and choking, so I couldn't switch off and sleep. Hopefully that's all out of his system now: I am going to be left to it til day 5 apart from pne phone call as with baby no 3 our local midwives say they are "handsoff" unless help is needed.

mopsy, we will hopefully be using washable nappies soon but I wait til
The meconium has cleared as it's really gunky to get out of terry fabric, we will probably start next week if I'm not too knackered. When going the washing isn't too bad: one half wash every second day and I use a drying rack with nappies/muslins one day and clothes the next.

LMF and Hopeful, are continuing for you (who's the third person waiting? )

HoneyLovesChristmasCake · 04/01/2012 20:10

Truly epic Plu I attempted a catch-up post like one of yours over xmas but the computer ate it Grin.

My return to MN has more to do with DP's return to work than feeling the worst is over. Wink Still, knowing that I'm doing everything I can to help DS with my fast let down makes me feel better so I am v grateful for all the advice & tips even if they don't always work. I think he cried a little less last night but it may just have felt that way as Rocco & I went to bed really early so DP would get a decent sleep.

KateM77 · 04/01/2012 20:20

Congrats aethel Pleased to hear you had such a good birth and that you're home already

plu loving your work on the epic catch-ups!

Well, I survived day 1 on my own with both DC's Grin It all went surprisingly well, with only a few minor crises and tears (mine) along the way. I don't suppose every day will be as good, but I feel better able to cope now. Not only did I get us all up and dressed, and make Dr appointment (tomorrow morning), but also made it out for a walk and to the shops. Mum came over after work this eve to help out and typically wasn't needed as DS went down for a sleep without being held for the first time all day! She also bought lots of M&S food that'll be easy for me to just chuck in the oven for times when DH isn't back early enough to cook Smile

Ah yes, sorry, did see that but brain is total mush.

Right, beeb changed, fed, burped and swaddled
(please don't puke!) and attempt to settle number one of several million...

aethelfleda · 04/01/2012 21:21

Well done on the first lone day Kate, it's such a good hurdle to get over. dH is now on 2 weels working-from -home pat leave so I
Have a fortnight to work oiut how the helll to sort out BFing and the school run (which will be a school waddle in all probability)...

MissRee · 04/01/2012 21:24

I'm the third!!!!!

Feeling decidedly grumpy today... COME ON BABY!!!! She keeps trying to come out my bellybutton, I'm sure.

First sweep tomorrow... Fingers crossed it does something Grin

Figgygal · 04/01/2012 21:28

Reliving the "fun" of childbirth watching one born every minute......there might be something wrong with me Grin

PludolphTheRedNosedReindeer · 04/01/2012 21:56

No 2nd hand to continue "proper" update, but just want to say that all the later poppers on our thread have been very good natured in their patience and support. Smile

LittleMissFlustered · 04/01/2012 22:20

plu If you'll forgive the Disney crap:

we're all in this together...

Yeah, that's about as much as I can remember and I am so not breaking out the selection of HSM CDs my daughter owns to get the rest. You get the drift though? Wink

And those of you with older girls can now try to kill me for infecting your head with that particular earworm. You know you love it really:I

I'm off to see what irks the cat. It's sat mewling at the ceiling in a very pitiful manner. Stupid animal.

Night all!

NorthernChinchilla · 04/01/2012 23:06

Hello, brief place marking.
We're back from our week-long, 600 mile round trip Northern Odyssey. Have managed to read the thread, but not post, as it's been sodding frantic rather busy.

Will update when I get a chance over the next few days now we're home-wanted to send support to those having tough times and full-on mutant haddocks to HVs, PILs and others making people upset!

Mmmmcheese · 04/01/2012 23:40

I am attempting to settle a very grizzly and snotty DD inm her moses and its not going well. Really don't want to resort to her sleeping on my chest this early in the night. Does anyone know if it is safe or not and what the risks are? I suppose one risk if that she is sleeping on her tummy and not her back.

After her epic all night feeding she's now gone down to about every 3/4 hrs which is great but having upped my supply she now isn't draining each boob properly which is leaving me full, sore and giving her green poo as she is getting mostly foremilk. Any suggestions? Don't really want to express as that will just keep my supply too mucj for her. I guess it will sort itself out on its own?

I'm also impressed with how well you late poppers are coping - I would be climbing the walls!

plu good to have you back! DS's chickenpox is no longer infectious so we are at last reunited as a family. DS loves his baby sister and gives her lots of sloppy wet kisses! Very cute

hopeful1 · 05/01/2012 00:35

Hello to missree!!

Went to hospital today, cervix firmly shut so could not do sweep or break waters! Can't be induced due to previous cs so booked in for cs on Friday! Also have to go back tomorrow to get tested for gestational diabetes, bit late now!!

Aethel - glad to hear all is going well

LMF - hope your twinges turn in to something soon

AWomanCalledHorse · 05/01/2012 03:40

!! hopeful, good luck for friday, bit Hmm at them leaving the test so late!

HV came round today, lovely lady (YAY) & DS is up from 7lbs 1 (3 days after birth) to 8lbs 4 (2 wks old)! Grin

cheese, glad the chickenpox is cleared up!

aethelfleda · 05/01/2012 03:48

Ahhhh, night feeding, how I have missed you...
Apart from my lovely SIL, who came for a sneaky peak at Albert and reminded me that her babies went 4 hours overnight between breastfeeds from day 1 (she was otherwise lovely, anyway) thinhs are the usual knackered newborn blur chez Aethel. Albert is latching beautifully but does Not want to sleep anywhere but on Mummy's cleavage (sound familiar, anyone?!) so has
Objected to the moses basket Experience as of yet.
I did sometimes co-sleep with the DDs but when they are teenies I get the odd worry twinge about it (what if DH rolls overoves
Duvet/the DDs invade etc etc) so it's a combo of guilt versus knackeredness for me. Joy. mm whem I get a mo I'll tru to find you some cosleeping info, generally them sleeping on you is fine if you're awake but not if you're asleep as they may slide off in a random direction IYSWIM? Most cosleeping mums lie on their side forming a protective "c shape" around baby, isially turned away from any DP in the bed. It's generally safe as long as you're not drunk, high, a smoker, or using loose bedding that could get over babies head.

Good lick with the sweep missree, 50% chance
Of labour withon 48h if it worls! Shame you couldn't have
One hopeful but try not to be too down
About the closed cervix it really isnt that predictive of a delay getting into labour , once your labour signals start it will enlarge and some people go from 1-10 very quickly, it may be you!!

for all three of you and hope those
Stanby pajns are a good sign LMF, and that your cat is intact!

Yet another feed done with a suspicious farting noise from baby at the end. Nappy check in a don't-you-dare-wake-back-up kinda way.

aethelfleda · 05/01/2012 03:51

Oh and gotta love it: DH woke up in between snoring bouts to complain "this baby's louder than the other ones!" (i pointed
Out he really isnt, but its been a while
So he's forgotten!! I feed on cues to minimose crying so think DH os being a wuss. Oh well, thats the downside pf BFing. At least A is maling a
Good effort. Night girls...

aethelfleda · 05/01/2012 06:22

Hey, he managed one hour (!) in the moses basket! Tht's a result...I think...
Now being kept awake by the high winds. Hope everyone else is getting sleep pf a kind, now just need a half hours doze... And a top-up of painkillers... And I'm cool! (that's from a great Larry Miller Sketch
Called the Five Levels of Drinking: youtube clip . )

OiMissus · 05/01/2012 07:53

Morning all, marking place, all going well here - but I need a pad and pen to try and respond to all the posts I've missed!
Congratulations aethel on the birth of the wonderfully named Albert. At last!
We finally moved house yesterday. It was supposed to happen onthe 3rd but the removers let us down and said they could only pack on 3rd and move on 4th. DH had to work yesterday, so my parents helped out. It went really well. And now someone else owns "my" house ( but I have £60k profit in my bank account - sales anyone? Grin)
(joke -I hate sales!)
Anyway, I better get out of bed, our new fridge could arrive any minute. Rubbish night sleep. Banging radiators all night, and very loud stormy winds sound even louder in the roof of our rented dorma-bungalow!

msbuggywinkle · 05/01/2012 08:17

aethel hope you got some more sleep!

For those who are worried about bed sharing, the analytical armadillo has sensible things to say on the new guidelines (when I had 1&2 the HV was giving out safe bed sharing advice).

hopeful are you hoping to go into labour before Friday? Either way, out for you!

mmm it will adjust itself in a few days, in the meantime you can try expressing a small amount for comfort, cold cabbage leaves, or you could wake her up a bit more often during the day.

As we are finally having a semi-decent weather day, I will be taking the DDs to the swings this morning so DD2 can run off her energy in an enclosed space! Have a couple of very boring errands to do too so hopefully the DDs will run off some of the wildness!
