Been out all day. The 'bowling ball in my bits' sensation has increased to 'sodding painful interludes' over the day. So. That would be onset I assume. Let's see if anything happens tonight shall we? Gear up those pompoms ladies, I might need them.

LMF crossing fingers for us both!

Just had my sweep - very uncomfy now but 1cm dilated, cervix down to 1cm long and soft and baby fully engaged Grin she made me bleed quite a lot tho so glad I asked about taking a pad!!!!

We shall see if this works now...

MissRee · 05/01/2012 16:58

Question for those of you ladies BF... did you have colostrum before you went into labour? I've been curious about this but haven't had anything so far and can't squeeze any out... does it only come through after the birth or am I going to struggle?

OiMissus · 05/01/2012 17:51

hawthers you must be going thru hell seeing your baby in hospital like this. ((hugs)). (whenever I think about Alistair's 2nd day in the world having to have his op I still cry).
Pompoms awaiting MissRee and LMF!
And yes, I did get colostrum before I gave birth (nipple tweakery to try to bring on labour). I don't know if it's any indicator of future bf success. My milk came in on day 4, I think. And now at day 26 (and just earlier) I now drown my LO with the amount of milk that squirts out. If he goes longer than 4 hrs between feeds, my breasts become big, tender and hard.
-who was it who'd got their period? My lochia reduced, then went more brown in colour, but then for the last 3 days it's been fresh bright red blood. I wasn't sure if it was period or not...
Those bf-ing... Sorry if tmi... Like any new mum, I take a keen interest in my baby's faeces colour. But should mine be black?? Tis very odd but it's been like this since 2 days after the birth.
Am knackered after all the unpacking over the last 2 days. My back is broken. And Alistair wants to feed again...

LittleMissFlustered · 05/01/2012 18:53

Pain doesn't seem as strong at home, but that may be because I'm not trying to herd the kids about and am within striking distance of a kettle. Not started noting times yet. Can't decide what to do regards kids. A friend could have them tonight, but parents can take them for a couple of days. But, mum's at fat-class (her words) and won't be in till about eight, then need to eat and then the forty odd minute drive here. Just worried that it's my third and it might kickoff quicker if it does decide to get going:(

Sorry for rambling. Intermittent pain and lack of sleep doesn't agree with me:)

Hi everyone

I have been in hospital with Hope who has Bronchiolitis caused by the RSV Virus.

She was sleepy then was sick after three feeds and the a rash on her head and chest so i called ooh dr, at 3am we was sent to hospital and kept in in case she needed feeding tube or oxangen tent.

Breastmilk rocks - as she is bf she was waking every hour and feeding for 5 mins - 20 mins at a times all the time and managed to keep it down or most of it. They tried to canalize her but failed 4 times and then give up and wanted to see how the bf was going first before givin fluids.

She is now home but i have had no sleep and son has the same thing as we are all contagues for 3 weeks Sad

Hope is alert and feeding well and i'm so impressed by her as she only cried when hungry and having needles in her.

All the nurseing was so impressed with how chilled out she is - just like her Dad Grin

She is doing better each day so hope she will get over it soon.

Off to catch up!

msbuggywinkle · 05/01/2012 19:10

bee my DD1 was like that, her ability to stay awake was impressive!

missree no indication at all of bf success, the colostrum will be there, it just doesn't come out easily before birth for some women.

for lmf and missree

There is something wrong with my back...I felt as though I had been kicked in it for about a week after birth, but we are almost four weeks on now and it still aches a lot if I'm standing or walking for a while and my lower back has horrible spasms a couple of times a day...doctors tomorrow for me I think!

AnAirOfHope · 05/01/2012 19:14

Also even tho we are ill and had no sleep the HV is still coming out to see us tomoro! I told her no need but she is stilll come - i think you were right the make you have depression.

Also the Homestart person said "Are you fine or are you just lieing and saying your fine, as being a parent is hard!" (Being a parent is hard - no shit, really, who would have thought that Grin this said on 50 mins of sleep in 48 hours when looking after a very sick 5 week old baby Angry lol

So when i say something its ignored and when they do listen i'm lieing - i just cant win with these people.

I dont have PND with Hope but all their involved i'm suprised i dont have depression!

OK sleep deprived rambling rant over Blush

aethelfleda · 05/01/2012 19:19

Oh no, it's totally bronchiolitis season isn't it! Glad you're home now air and big hugs to mmm and especially hawthers, hope baby is off all the tubes asap and you are all home soon.

And lots of Including a special nightshift for LMF, missree and hopeful. if you get bored overnight do post as I'm sure I'll be up feeding DS who's decided he's totally a boob man.

Midwife kindly visited today after I rang and wibbled about my stitches: good news is she thinks it's all fine (she wrote "NAD: reassured" in notes which is medical speak for anxious mother but I don't care cos she was more objective than I could be). I was worried cos after Dd2 I had an episiotomy whih got infected and the whole wound broke down, so obviusly anxious to avoid a repeat performance. She also checked Albert and was quite concerned that he has a tongue tie: I can see he has, but he's latching on really well

aethelfleda · 05/01/2012 19:25

And I can feel that really deep central tug you get when they are well latched, his ears even wiggle, and my milks not properly in yet. So I'll see what his weight does, but I don't want to subject the poor boy to a tongue-tie-snip unless he really needs it.

How's everyone else doing? Good luck to all of you with awful feeding fatigue, and hope you can get to a solution that works for you and your LO's. We'll all get there (and get some sleep) eventually!

DeckTheHawthersWithBells · 05/01/2012 19:34

aethelfleda · 05/01/2012 20:52

Oh no Hawthers, so sorry to hear mini-H is in ICU. Hope baby is quick to respond to treatment and that they work out what's going on. Under no circumstances feel you have to update us but DO know we're here to support you and if it helps to post please please do: I'm likely to be on here overnight thanks to my internet addiction small nocturnal feeding creature. make sure you a)eat and drink something and b) try to get a nap at some point, even if it's brief xxx

bennybenbear · 05/01/2012 20:55

Wishing you all the best hawthers and praying your little one gets better soon.

NorthernChinchilla · 05/01/2012 21:16

So sorry to hear of all the ill little ones at the moment, hope they're on the mend air and mmm.

ICU is both a terrifying and reassuring place hawthers- I've spent a very long time as an onlooker in there, and seen them work absolute miracles. I cannot imagine how you must feel with your baby in there, but sending you all the best.

NorthernChinchilla · 05/01/2012 21:29

aethel- will probably see you for some one handed posting overnight...

We had an excellent week up North- really pleased we managed the journey with only one stop each way with a two week old and post CS.

If there's any greater pleasure than introducing your new baby to adoring grandparents I don't know what it is, sooo lovely. The wee man behaved beautifully, cheerfully slept on all the visitors, and charmed everyone. But seriously- we had so many people wanting to come round we had to schedule people in half hour slots over three afternoons!

Today's been rather pants however as a wisdom tooth issue (gums get all sore and inflamed) meant rush to dentist's on our return and some hardcore anti-bs. It's made me fret as they can both give the baby the runs and make my milk taste bitter. I'm really concerned that he'll reject the breast, and if that starts to happen I'll ditch the drugs and take my chances.
But also means I can't share the bed with the baby tonight, as the first day of anti-bs knocks me out- fell straight asleep on the sofa after the first dose, so won't take any chances tonight.

So he'll have to try going in his moses- which he won't- as I kip on sofa: hence see you on line tonight...Sad

Hope you're feeling a little better about the feeding issues benny, mopsy and figgy- as you say, the key thing is getting them fed, and given your posts you've all gone above and beyond in your bf'ing.

KateM77 · 05/01/2012 21:35

Hawthers big hugs for you. Having a sick baby is the worst thing in the world to have to deal with, as you know from DS1, but you will deal with it and will stay strong for your little one. I'm not very good with words, so just want to reiterate what aethel said.

Mmm and Air hope your little ones are on the mend soon

for LMF

BeeMyBaby · 05/01/2012 23:32

Hawthers please keep us updated when you are able, have they found out what is wrong with him yet?

Air Surely the very fact that you have just been in hospital with Hope shows that you are coping well and not just curling into a ball as the HV seemingly keeps implying?

Go LMF go! Baby time!

aethelfleda · 06/01/2012 00:26

Good morning... Well, kinda... Hope there's not too many thread mums up. Just comoletely failed to get DS settled in moses basket and stitches stinging like hell... Then noticed the diclofenac tablet sitting on side that DH brought up for me 2 hours ago. Distracted, moi?! Suppose it shows they are helping and not just placebo effect!

Ds lovely but totally confused by my milk starting to come in. Burping is a foreign country to this LO, and moses baskets are just a fairy tsle for babies who don't behave. No wonder so many cultures co-sleep, the babies like it better!

aethelfleda · 06/01/2012 01:15

Oh dear, DS just latched, got milk instead of colostrum, and panicked.
BURMA! bless.

DeckTheHawthersWithBells · 06/01/2012 02:46

Farley is stable and starting to be fed my ebm by ng tube which means my old bitch friend the breast pump and I have become intimately reacquainted. Joy.

F seems to be holding his own with a small amount of o2 and a whole lot of finger crossing. Thanks all for your knife word and please continue to keep us in your prayers.

MissRee · 06/01/2012 03:44

Ohhhh it seems to have started... rather painful tightenings that feel like they're right up high in my fanjo, around my back and I can defo feel them moving bump too. Haven't timed any yet as I'm trying to rest through them.

Come on LMF let's have these babies today!!!

Mmmmcheese · 06/01/2012 04:04

hawthers so glad he is stable. Do they have any idea what it is? Great news that he is getting ebf though, if they were really worried they wouldn't let him eat. Totally understand your feeling about being back in NICU and back omn the pump! After our experience with DS not sure how I would cope if DD had to go to neonatal.

DD is doing well and has started waking more often for feeds now, which is a good, but exhausting, sign. Is it possible to be so tired it makes your teeth hurt?! Sounds weird I know but ALL my teeth have toothache at the same time!

LMF and MissRees - hope things are going well and we get a baby announcement soomn!
