Here's the new thread ladies!!!

May this one bring some BABIES!!!

ghosteditor · 22/02/2012 15:48

Ps I may have mentioned this before but the reason I have the tea tee oil is that it was recommended to me for post-birth. A few drops in a bottle of water every time you pee for the first week or so and it's much less stingy, especially if you have stitches like I did! Best piece of advice I've had from MN Grin

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 22/02/2012 15:48

Pps you pour the water over your bits, obviously, not drink it!

ghosteditor · 22/02/2012 20:53

Cripes, did I break the thread with my stitches chat? Grin

Carlitawantsababy · 22/02/2012 20:58

Yes ghost microfibre backed inserts are fine. Wow on the 4 hours, good going. Thanks for the tea tree tip, I'll pick some up! Grin the thought of stitches scares me more than anything! A Blush question for all of you with babies, do antenatal appointments involve internal examinations at any point of do you not have those till you're in labour? Would prefer to be prepared.
I had a call from my new midwife today, she sounds really great, moved here from exactly the same place in London as I did! She's coming to my house tomorrow to do my ante natal check and book me in! Grin

Kayzr · 22/02/2012 21:03

Carlita I only had them in labour.

I was told to put salt in the bath for the first 2 weeks and try to have a bath every day even if you are just in there for 10 minutes. I did with both boys and the MWs said I healed very quickly.

ghosteditor · 22/02/2012 22:45

I liked the salt baths too, but found it hard to make the time - I usually prefer to shower anyway.

I wondered the exact same thing about internal exams but the only one I had before labour was when I was admitted for bleeding at 27 weeks. I was, shall we say, prepared and tidy for my late pregnancy appointments but I only had internals when in labour. The one from the doctor where they made me switch to my back was sooo painful the bastard. It was the only time I cried out during the labour.

As for stitches, well, they're a bitch. I even pushed slowly to give myself a chance, but still had some minor tearing. The anaesthetic was painful as you're so tender after the birth, and I found it hard as I tore in two places so had to endure it twice. Having said that, I had no pain relief at all at any point so I really felt it! Water births massively reduce tearing, which is what I wanted but couldn't have due to my PIH. But it really wasn't that bad, I promise. And at least while I was being stitched I could stare at my beautiful new baby!

Grin thanks guys, good to know!

aBundanceOfTime · 23/02/2012 10:17

Oops I had this written out last night and forgot to post!

Oh yes squirty bottle of warm water with a wee is very helpful! Didn't know about the tea tree though, good idea that. Also, if you lean forward to touch the floor it stops the flow of wee going over your 'bits' Grin
I did salt baths every day too, with some lavender oil thrown in for good measure Smile

Carlita I had some internal examinations when I was overdue with DS and none with DD (had her at 39 weeks).
I'm rather well acquainted with stitches now, large internal tear with DS and two decent sized external with DD, both times I've found that once they're done it's fine (with the help of some thick maternity pads for cushioning!). If you need any, have some gas and air for the anaesthetic, it really helps and make sure they give you lots of anaesthetic - that's what I did this time round and it was infinitely better than with DS. I had more trouble with my graze than the stitches though so don't worry too much Smile

trope · 23/02/2012 14:37

ooh stitches scare me silly too! Local anaesthetic doesn't work very well on me (slight dulling that wears off really fast), in fact I'm yet to find a painkiller that does work, so the idea of being stitched up without pain relief is daunting!! Here's hoping I have a stretchy fanjo!! Wink

Thanks for the tea tree oil tip for weeing & nappies! I already have some kicking around so that's super handy to know!

Internal exams scare me too (i'm such a wuss) - good to know you don't necessarily have to have lots! I'm planning on putting in my birth plan/notes that I want as few a VEs as possible and them all to be done by the same person, unless absolutely essential that someone else takes a look.

WRT newborn nappies - I've got a big stack of muslins and I found a video online that shows a good way to fold them to use on a newborn as a nappy, if the shaped ones are too loose/leaky when the baby is small! So I figure i'll stick a bunch of those in my hospital bag as a back up! I got sent some disposable liners as part of the nappy set I got, so may use those in the first few days, while the meconium works it's way through, so I can try and avoid horribly staining the nappies/muslins too badly!

MammaInTheMaking · 23/02/2012 14:41

AUBERGINE! 25 weeks :o

trope · 23/02/2012 15:49

Yay! congrats Mamma As uncomfortable as it can be, I've really enjoyed from 25ish weeks - the wiggles and the way the baby responds to the outside world - it's just amazing!

Was trying to remember who was due when, so have pulled the stats from upthread as a reminder (and added in details for the two already born!) Sorry if I've missed anyone - have added babybrain and toddle in at the end - so they can add their stats if they want to! :)

In other news, I think fuzzy might be starting to engage!! Those of you who've been through this - how did it start/feel? I've had killer braxton hicks the last few days and have felt very uncomfortable with fuzzy up under my ribs making breathing quite hard. Today, my bump is lower, the movements are reduced/smaller and there are more low down than normal and I can breathe much easier. I already walk with a funny waddle so it's hard to tell if i'm more cowboy-esque than usual! Looking online, first timers can start to engage around 33 weeks - but it seems awful early? Will ask the midwife when I go in for my BP check on Monday, but am impatient and curious and want to know right now!! Wink

trope · 23/02/2012 15:49

oh - and i've popped some more scan pics up on my profile - managed to get it to work! :)

Kayzr · 23/02/2012 15:57

I know have a large papaya. Last week was an average papaya Grin

MammaInTheMaking · 23/02/2012 16:12

Gorgeous pictures Trope esp the one face on!!

Kayzr · 23/02/2012 21:09

Love the pics Trope Grin

I've come to moan and cry Sad

My nose is so blocked its horrible. The pain across my cheeks and across the top of my nose is insane. The painkillers I was given takes the edge of it but doesn't get rid of it.

I struggle to swallow because it's so blocked and nothing is clearing it at all. I'm going to try and get another appointment tomorrow or buy one of those baby things you get for clearly theirs noses.

babybrain3 · 23/02/2012 21:13

Oh kayzr you poor thing Sad ((hugs)) hope it clears soon

ghosteditor · 23/02/2012 21:32

Oh kayzr I've had this recently too and it's awful. Can you get hold of some menthol crystals from the chemist to dissolve in hot water and then stick your head over the bowl? It helped me as I can't take sudafed due to bfeeding.

OP posts:
Davinaaddict · 23/02/2012 22:09

Ok - I started this post last night and already there are loads of replies! So I'll probably miss something out. Confused

I love Babar ghost Grin I bet Jools loves it too. Good luck with the reusables - hope they work out for you. I'll be sticking with disposables I'm afraid

Well done on the weight loss both of you - hope mine is as successful Smile. Although if it's anything like last time, probably not. It took me around 12 months to lose it, which wasn't too bad, but of course not that long after that I got pregnant again!

Sorry your PGPs still playing up Carlita Sad Glad your DP is looking after you.

Poor you babybrain & your DS Sad It's always worse when you can't give cuddles - makes you want them even more Sad Hope the results come back really quickly.

Hi Mamma - congrats on 25 weeks! Sorry you've been ill as well Sad but glad you're feeling better now. I've given up on all the comments now - no-one could make up their mind about whether I was bigger/smaller so I smile, nod & ignore Hmm

Good catch up trope Smile Love the top & fleece. I'm trying not to buy much anything until we locate the missing bag of DS's 0-3 months, so I can see what we actually need. Plus we're skint at the moment so can't really afford anything until payday this week Confused I'll keep my fingers crossed for your rheumatologist and I'm sorry it doesn't sound too promising for her Sad Glad to hear fuzzy us doing well - only 7 weeks to go! Grin Lovely scan photos too Smile

Oh gosh Kazyr that sounds horrendous! Hope you feel better really soon Sad

So we found the missing bag of baby clothes today, so just to wash it all now then to sort it all out - think it might be a busy weekend again. I could do with just sleeping but not much chance of that with a loopy 2 year old Grin
Crap nights sleep again, after an hours power cut resulting in all the house alarms nearby, going off twice zzzz I'm hoping tonight will be better.

Thanks for the stitches info ladies - I'm burying my head in the sand trying not to worry too much about things like that as I'll have a baby in less than 4 weeks Shock

On a positive note, no more trips to the office from now on - I'm officially a home worker Grin Apologies for any typos etc - too tired to proof read Blush

Carlitawantsababy · 24/02/2012 07:46

Wow, lots of good tips on here, thanks everyone, still terrified of tearing but hey ho, I guess no one wants to! I have completely failed on the perineal massage so far too so haven't exactly helped myself Blush.
trope a friend of mine uses muslin nappies with his 13 month old still, say they're the best for them and he can easily carry a whole stack of them around with him as they're so small and lightweight. I may buy an extra pack when I get my tea tree oil, thanks for reminding me! Smile glad fuzzy is doing so well and it's exciting he has so much hair, we saw some on the 4D scan. Great scan pics! Getting really close now! You sound like you're feeling a bit better, are you? Thanks for re-posting stats too, I like to know where everyone is! Hope you find out if fuzzy is engaged, that's very exciting! My midwife wrote on my notes yesterday 5/5ths palpable which from googling I think means not engaged at all yet but I've had no problems breathing and only the occasional kick to the ribs and bump generally low so don't know if I'll be able to tell the difference? I guess maybe it'll make the PGP worse again when it happens?
Congratulations on your beautiful aubergine mamma! I too gave up listening to comments about my size in the end as everyone kept commenting on how big I was yet I was measuring spot on average at my appointments, i think people just forget how big women get when they have another person and tgat person's luggage inside them!
And congrats kayzr on your large papaya! Sorry you're feeling so rotten kayzr, that's miserable, I hope you can find some relief.
davina hooray for being a home worker and well done for getting this far! Good you found the baby clothes you were looking for! Boo for the crappy alarms going off in the night, not what you need right now! Wow that you'll definitely have a baby in 4 weeks! Shock !
So my new midwife came yesterday and she was really lovely, totally brilliant. Turns out not only did she live a few streets away in London (25 years ago, she came here for a weekend once and never went back) but she also (until last year) had the same breed of dog as me which is very lucky as said dog decided the midwife was great and spent most of the appointment draped over her shoulders (yes, literally) Blush or sitting next to her on the sofa with her arm around her! It's a better system here as there are 5 midwives who cover hastings for home births (in London they all took turns) so they are people who have an interest in home birth and natural birth. She was very encouraging about the pool and using tens and about hypnobirthing so I really really hope we get her for our birth, it'd be amazing! Baby is doing well, still head down (phew) as I thought, lovely strong heart beat and bump measuring 37cm, am 36 weeks today. I think he'll be a chubby little baby from the feel of him Grin
4 weeks to go! (take note baby, that's at least 4 weeks, no coming next week okay as far too much to do, no later than 5 weeks though okay?)

Davinaaddict · 25/02/2012 06:31

Morning ladies. 38 weeks today and baby is as long as a leek Smile I'm not having a good day so far as baby seems a bit subdued today, although I'm trying not to freak out just yet as I've not been awake very long. Also, there's not much room in there these days, so that's probably got a lot to do with it. I'm going to pop downstairs for a cold drink of lucozade I think. Also I'm going to have a very lazy day, even though I've got so much to do. I think I need the rest after a very busy week - just a shame I can't sleep. But thinking that I'll go snuggle up on the sofa and watch some catch up tv until the boys get up.

DS was so lovely with bump yesterday - he thinks we're having a girl, seemingly, as he likes to cuddle 'baby sister' Grin We asked him earlier on in the week if he thought it would be a baby brother or sister and sister seems to have stuck. I hope he's right, otherwise that might get very confusing when baby is born!

Wow - small world Carlita Glad you have a lovely midwife and baby is doing well. Love your instructions to the baby on just when to make an appearance too Grin Fingers crossed that baby was listening! I didn't have any breathing problems first time round either, although at 36 weeks, DS was still breech which may have had something to do with it. I think it's very likely that your PGP will get worse, if your experience is like mine (and I don't have PGP). This one likes to bob up and down quite frequently, which is not unusual in second + babies apparently. But, boy do I notice it when baby has dropped! I get lots of pressure and a bit of pain at the front, and it's really hard to get into a comfortable position Sad But not long to go now Smile

Hope you're feeling better today Kazyr

Oh I meant to say thanks for reposting the stats too, trope even though I'm slightly terrified about being next on the list Grin

And in the time it's taken me to post this, bump seems to have woken up so I can stop worrying for a bitSmile Still going to have a lazy day though! Hope you all have a lovely weekend Smile

babybrain3 · 25/02/2012 08:00

Good luck with the lazy day davina I've got to go shopping for a dress to wear for a wedding that were going to next weekend in Scotland.... Not looking forward to it much as its one of dps old workmates and the only person I will know is DP. Also won't be drinking obviously, and envisage being very tired after the long drive up there. Sad

Can someone add my edd in for me please? It's 3rd October, although I think it will be born at the end of September as my other dc have both been early... Guess il just have to wait and see!

In other news I Dont feel quite so sick anymore, which I am quite relieved about really-I do still have enormous very sore boobs and have that 'pregnant' feeling so I'm not too worried Grin.

Still not heard from a midwife yet though.... 8 + 3 today. I'm going to leave it til next week and then call the surgery. The leaflets they gave me said you should be seen between 8 and 10 weeks, so I thought I would have had an appointment date through really... Hmm I guess there's no rush!

Carlitawantsababy · 25/02/2012 18:10

The boy is as big as a watermelon! ??

Kayzr · 26/02/2012 10:35

Hello,

Still not much better here. Holding out for my doctors appointment tomorrow. I can't hear properly now so I really need them to do something.

I have just ordered my sling. I went for a Kari Me one in the end. There are just too many to choose from but I thought if I don't get on with it then it can go on ebay and I can get another one.

Apparently the baby is the size of an ear of corn now.

It is pirate week at DS1's school so I need to go and make a treasure map with him. Should be good fun.

Davinaaddict · 26/02/2012 11:39

Thanks babybrain I managed a good lazy day yesterday, thanks to DH. So back to trying to get organised today Confused So much to do in the next 13 days! How did the shopping go? I hope you managed to get something nice. Glad to hear the sickness is easing off Smile

Hooray for the watermelon Carlita

Sorry to hear you're still not better Kayzr Sad I hope the doctors sort you out tomorrow. That was my thinking when I got my Kari-Me as they had a good resale price on eBay at the time. I do like mine even though I only used it twice, but I think it will definitely come in more handy this time with a 2 year old as well Smile Enjoy making the treasure map!

babybrain3 · 26/02/2012 17:22

Would anyone like one of my vanilla cupcakes with pink icing that I made this afternoon?? ??
