Ooooh exciting news addicted, green and giraffe! Hope all goes well for you Grin

Day 4 for me being overdue... done all my housework so just chilling out and waiting. Got some niggly aches but they're more period pains and so ridiculously mild I fear I may be imagining them Sad

A week today til induction... sigh

fishandlilacs · 04/01/2012 09:57

sho yes her induction date is 12th jan but she is going to dig her heels in a bit I think-she diesn't want to be induced this time at all. 11th is my due date-i aslo dont want our children to share a birthday. I can't really explain why but i just don't.

shonnomanom · 04/01/2012 10:03

I know exactly how you feel fish. Iv had 2 rules in this pregnancy, no birth on Christmas Day or Twins Day. Avoided the first one nicely but the Twins is a strong possibility.
Dd goes back to nursery on Monday so I would really like baby to be here before that. I was told to expect induction for around the 9th or 10th, it will get booked today. Fingers and toes crossed that this baby copies its big sister and is home by said booked induction. Pretty please!

Oeisha · 04/01/2012 10:19

Morning all!
SQUEEE!!!! Babies are on their way! Good luck all!
...though not mine. I'm in denial about the whole thing today. Despite MW appt.
Still got a friggin headache with flashing lights too.

Emailed parents (well everyone) lastnight about what we want to happen for the first week or so, and they've taken it surprisingly well, though part of the thinks they'll just ignore is anyway.

Am concerned/amazed by this thread. 3 days of no movement and she's only just going to get it checked out today... Hmm Don't know how she hasn't totally lost it and had some major melt down.

Anyway, off to MW I go...

addictediam · 04/01/2012 12:26

Unfortunately this illness has won and all pains have pretty much stopped. I've been dozing on the sofa all morning (with the door closed and cbeebies on and our living room is baby proof before anyone thinks they should call ss :o) and am still exausted.

Hope all the other labouring ladies are still going and getting closer.

TiaDalma · 04/01/2012 13:18

Hi Ladies ...
I am a bit late for an antenatal thread I know, but wondered if I can join anyway? Grin
I am due on Sunday 8th with my first. I am having a boy (Found out at 16wks at a gender scan ... was being slightly impatient!)
Slightly jealous of the ladies who are having newborn snuggles, and the ones who are nearly there! I haven't had any signs that DS is on his way, apart from BH's. I get them when I need a wee, anybody else like that? Probably just me being weird!
I shall stop waffling on now ...

fishandlilacs · 04/01/2012 13:48

welcome aboard Tia. Not late at all, theres still plenty of time to get to know everyone. I get bh's when I need the loo too. I think they happen at other times but i notice them more then.

Oeisha · 04/01/2012 13:59

Welcome tina Grin

I've noticed some HBs (we sometimes call them Higgs bosons) when I need to wee too.

MW is a little concerned about the headaches (as my BP is up 20 diastiolic and about 15-20 systolic) and has made me promise I'll go in if I feel unwell or get any other PE symptoms, especially epigastric pain. They're going to see me next week and just take it from each appointment. Abi's heart rate was a little up too, but not by much, and she had just been bashing about a lot.

Other than that, Abi's about 3/5 engaged still, which MW was very excited about, and managed to actually have her bum in bang on the right place today. Looks like I'm on track for a 8lber if she goes to 40wks! Grin

Oeisha · 04/01/2012 14:00

errr, tia not tina. Headache must be worse than I thought.

abeautifulbutterfly · 04/01/2012 14:30

Hi ladies - hope you G-Girls (Green and Giraffe) are well on the way now, if not holding your LOs already! :) Zoe, how's things?

Nice to see so many new peeps so late on as well.

Well, I went to my chosen hosp today for the first time for monitoring (standard procedure here, once a week from 38 wks and I think every other day after 40 wks). Was lovely to hear LO's heartbeat - and I walked in and the MW said "Oh! Welcome back!" That was so nice - the last time I saw her was 6.5 years ago when giving birth to DD2. She remembered me straight away and even remembered that my DD1 had been such a huge lump Shock Smile. That was why I wanted to go back there - I remember all the staff being lovely
BUT there is major renovation work going on there, supposed to have finished at the end of 2011 but it's still going on. The delivery suite is shut and the AN wards have been converted into delivery rooms - instead of 4 there are only two, they are connected, cramped and dingy. The delivery rooms I was in before were spacious, with wall ladders, beanbags, birthing balls etc, for now there is nothing like that...
The door into them opens straight off the main corridor, where the workmen are working (main corridor stinks of cig smoke) and random people wandering around... She said if there are lots of women coming in there is the AN ward, but I can't imagine being on the AN ward waiting on a room coming free. I am pretty vocal in labour Blush and I would feel so embarrassed mooing and groaning in a 4-bed room (no such thing as screens in PL!).

SO, for the first time ever I am willing this baby to stay put till after her due date. The MW said they are hoping it will all be finished maybe even in 2 weeks, so I have a chance (DDs1&2 went 8 and 9 days over). But am going to go and have another look at the other hosp just in case - can't imagine giving birth in those conditions, though am really torn because the staff are great, and vvv. pro-BFing (not the case in the other place).

Sorry for such an epic but I am so gutted...

ghosteditor · 04/01/2012 14:52

Welcome tia!

butterfly, you poor thing! I don't think even the best midwives and care could encourage me to give birth in the middle of a building site, not with smoke and building noise and random people around. And your state of mind will have a lot to do with the whole experience - you certainly don 't want to feel inhibited! I guess you could call them to find out how busy they are before you go in? Good luck!

I made some lists today in the hope of getting stuff done, and it seems to be working! I even finally managed to buy a nappy bin today, which was the last main thing to buy - it's just a small pail with a lid as we'll be using disposables for a bit and then reusables, but it made me happy!

Any advice re breast pumps? Apparently I should have this already, though I thought I had some time. I guess since I'll almost certainly need one I may as well buy it now... Am guessing the Medela Swing is the pump of choice? Anyone happen to have a big Tesco nearby? I hear they sometimes have them at £45!!!

supadupapupascupa · 04/01/2012 15:29

medela swing for me ghost

Sad butterfly

welcome newbies Grin

mummyzoe2012 · 04/01/2012 15:37

hi all pains still here, looks like very very slow labour! had a spicy chilli for dinner and pains are slowly picking up a bit now. just had enough now want regular pains!

on other news, could do with a little bit of chearing up. my mum had clots on her lung about 6 months ago and is undergoing tests to see if its effected her heart and is prob going to have to go see a heart specialist. her right lung was starved of air for a few weeks and they are questioning if she will need a op to try and help it recover. so am a bit worried about my mum now.

Sorry to post that on here just needed to get it off my chest.

fishandlilacs · 04/01/2012 16:49

Oh MZ sorry about your mum. Such a worry.

Hope labour picks up for you soon xx

Wormshuffler · 04/01/2012 16:57

Fingers crossed for your mum zoe. I'm ready as I will ever be for tomorrow. Been feeling tearful about it all day, basically scared about the op and the baby being ok, now turned into excitement. I'll try and update from phone if signal allows but won't be putting on Facebook until after the dcs know what we have had . dd 12 would find out if on fb.
Best of luck to all you labouring ladies x x

fishandlilacs · 04/01/2012 17:08

Re breastpumps.

I haven't bothered this time. It's a bit of a worrying niggle but I didn't get on well with mine (avent) last time at all and could never express very much even after ages pumping. I figure if I need to I will hand express this time.

MissRee · 04/01/2012 17:18

Good luck for tomorrow worm Smile will look out for an update from you!

I have my first sweep tomorrow at 40+5 and am starting to get a wee bit nervous about it hurting - ridiculous really considering I'm not at all worried about labour pains!!!

Is it normal to be this overdue, not at all uncomfortable, still sleeping like a trooper (apart from a pee break half way) and not even a whiff of any HBs/Plug loss etc??? I feel like I'm destined/doomed to go all the way to induction next Wednesday Sad

Of course I'm grateful that I don't feel like a whale, that I'm not massively uncomfortable and that at least baby is wiggling loads and still obviously healthy. I just don't want to be induced...

SlightlyScrambled · 04/01/2012 17:21

I'm the same Fish. I was convinced by others that the pump was required on my first baby. Turned out that DH didn't care too much about feeding, he had plenty of bonding time in other ways and it was just so much easier to put baby to the breast. I'm awfully lazy in some ways.

I have heard good reports on the medela swing though.

Very excited and envious of you Green and Giraffe. Best of luck!

You too, Worm. Sending positive birthing vibes out to you.

Wormshuffler · 04/01/2012 17:31

I just called up bupa on the off chance and apparently will get £150 per night stay plus £100 for new family member bonus!

addictediam · 04/01/2012 17:54

I am so stupid ladies I've just worked out why I've been so down and tired for the past few days (today being the worst). I have an under active thyroid, but due to this pregnancy my endo specialist wants to wait until I've had baby to put me on drugs when my levels will be more stable. So I'm controlling it with food (avoiding foods that block the thyroid and eating more of thoes that encourage. But with this baby brain when i started to get tired just after Christmas I thought I'd increase my iron levels by eating more iron rich foods like brocolli, sprouts, spinich. Can you guess what these foods also are? Yep that's right thyroid blockers so the more tired I've been getting the more I'm eating, the more down I'm feeling and getting even more tired. How stupid can someone be! Still now ive identified the problem, hopefully I can rectify it. looks like a trip to tesco to stock up on encouragers for me tomorrow.

Dh needs to turn off the electrics (meaning no WiFi) so will be back later (as long as I don't fall asleep while putting dd to bed)

shonnomanom · 04/01/2012 19:16

Just a quicky just now, will catch up with the day once dd is in bed.

nanny has posted on FB that she gave birth this morning. No team colours mentioned

ghosteditor · 04/01/2012 19:29

Wohoo nanny!

And addicted, great that you've solved the mystery - don't feel silly, it's kind of counter intuitive to think iron rich foods would make you feel worse. Hope you regain equilibrium soon.

Thanks for breast pump advice ladies...

Am foolishly watching an awful American show called Maternity Ward - OBEM will seem tame compared to this!!! There was just a little girl born who was named 'Heaven Mylove' I think Hmm

ghosteditor · 04/01/2012 19:32

Good luck tomorrow missree!

Still no signs here, boo. But my mum just told me that the first sign when I was born was her waters breaking, and the same with both grandmothers re parents.

Still watching the rubbish maternity ward show - there's a woman who's struggling to deliver a big baby and they claim to have tried everything, but the poor woman is flat on her back, no wonder she's struggling!!!!! V cute baby though Wink

ParsleyLion1 · 04/01/2012 19:38

Good luck tomorrow missree and worm :)

Congrats to Nanny Thanks I think she is Team Blue

fishandlilacs · 04/01/2012 19:40

Congrats nanny. wooweeee :)

I have updated stats list-have started taking EDD's off those who are here, if no one minds. It's just easier to see that way.
