HaveALittleFaith · 02/09/2012 19:33

Yes my sister even has an unused breast pump I can use. I'm hoping as he comes along to more MW appointments and they promote BF he'll realise how important it is?!

CamelKnees · 02/09/2012 20:33

Evening ladies

I am temporarily upright (lots of lying down this weekend to try and stem the ever worsening nausea. Urgh) so can type without fear of dropping my iPad on my face.

Hope everyone is ok.

cake v impressed with the baking? Any bread left???

dot how exciting re interior wriggling! I can't wait til all that exciting business begins. My absolute Fave bit of my pregnancy with DD was the first time I discovered that if I pushed her protruding little foot/elbow/knee/whatever it was back in that she'd sometimes push it back out. AWWWWWWWWWWESOME

faith you are not BU. when the time comes he will be glad he can't get up every 2 hours during the night because you're BF..... Also once he's sat through antenatal classes and appointments etc he will know how important it is. Tell him you'll think/talk about it nearer the time (on the basis it's not worth arguing about for the next 34 weeks) safe in the knowledge that you will BF.

blonde sorry to hear about the insulin disappointment. Sounds like they're really looking after you even if it's not what you'd have wanted.

HaveALittleFaith · 02/09/2012 20:59

Sorry to hear you've been suffering cam. I've had nausea but no vomiting today. Find it a combo of oddly reassuring and Blardy annoying.

Excellent idea I will go with well it's something I would really like to do but we'll discuss it down the line. Yes I will have 6 months mat leave so he will be at work and I bet he won't want to do the feeds through the night then! I did say bath time can be his domain when he gets back from work while I cook dinner (I bet by then, I'll enjoy a bit of time doing something non-baby related yes?!). It'll be fine.

CamelKnees · 02/09/2012 21:03

Delegating bath time is a fab idea. Yes these babies are very much wanted and will be loved to within an inch of their lives, but oh the sweet relief of being able to hand them over to daddy after a long day of baby business...... Good plan faith

cakeandcava · 03/09/2012 09:18

Bread was very good actually - maybe this is the start of domestic godessery in preparation for going on leave...

Faith you're definitely not BU - probably a good idea to leave it for now, he will be exposed to a lot of breastfeeding information throughout the pregnancy, especially if you're going to go to NCT or other classes together -hopefully he will come around. But even if he doesn't, don't budge, it is so important. You can start expressing after a few months once you've established breastfeeding, and then he can join in.

blonderthanred · 03/09/2012 09:29

Faith I had a similar thing with TBI - he wanted me to start expressing immediately so he can feed, whereas I want to make sure the breast is established first. However several months down the line he's a lot more clued up and happy to do it 'my' way.

Sign him up for the weekly babycentre emails, lots of tips and advice as well as fun for him to read up on how the baby's developing. They are for men and women but the main bit is addressed to the woman so TBI calls me every week to say things like: "my uterus is the size of a grapefruit!".

FriendofDorothy · 03/09/2012 13:43

First day back at work and I am fucking knackered!

HaveALittleFaith · 03/09/2012 13:54

I'm knackered too!! I'm getting a holiday end of September before u change roles. I need a week at home to sort the place out!

cakeandcava · 03/09/2012 17:31

Feet up and get some rest both of you!

I'm starting NCT classes tonight. Quite exciting! Not really sure what I'm expecting -some nice people that may become friends would be good. A bit of advice on pain coping techniques. And I think it will be really good for Mr Cakes -he's been supportive and happy, but a bit distant from the whole thing, and I'd like him to know a bit more about the actual birth process.

Hoping it's not going to be too heavy on the hippy woo -I know NCT is pro natural birth, and yes that's what I'm hoping for, and yes I do have a certain tolerance level for woo, but sometimes it can go too far. Was reading an article on delayed cord clamping yesterday, which was excellent and quoted lots of scientific studies. Then it went on to discuss the benefits of burning the cord off with a flame, which apparently "brings the yang qi from the placenta and the fire energy into the baby". That's where it lost me...

HaveALittleFaith · 03/09/2012 18:15

I have returned (after dropping the car off - brake pad symbol popped up yesterday eek!) and walked home. Cleaned the bathroom (because ew) and mopped the kitchen floor. So I am rewarding myself by collapsing in a heap while MSB takes himself off on a bike ride. Lazy tea courtesy of my cooking frenzy last week :)

HaveALittleFaith · 03/09/2012 18:15

Oh and pliz to explain about this NCT malarkey - I haff heard about it but dunno what it is?

CamelKnees · 03/09/2012 19:36

Hello fellow chubsters Grin

I am more tired than I care to mention. First day back in work after 2 weeks off and am just TOO tired. I literally could not keep eyes open at my desk today. This had better pass or they'll be writing me off as narcoleptic. [small aside re a friend of mine who is narcoleptic. I've never known anything like it. Met her at work about 10 years ago when in a meeting with me and one other person she FELL ASLEEP! I was Shock and trying very hard not to laugh. I was new back then and the other person who was used to Jo just carried on as if nothing was happening. It was hi.larious.

Hmmm so yes I'm zonked. I've booked my NCT refresher courses though. cakey hope you enjoy yours. I found mine v informative for both me and the mister and not too woo (no placenta burgers or similar mentioned). Also made some great friends and we still get together once every month or so with the kids 2.5 years on.

faith they're a charity that promote natural child birth and baby rearing. They do great antenatal classes which truth be told I'm sure cover most of the same stuff that the NHS ones do, but where I live you can sort of guarantee that the NCT classes will be frequented by married couples in their 30s where as the NHS ones are a bit more errrrr gritty if you get my drift. They also do nearly new sales which are fab for picking up any second hand bits you might want. Have a little look here

LauraPalmer · 03/09/2012 21:25

Am I still allowed in these parts? Things have been sooooooo busy and I don't spend much time at the computer anyway but I think I'm all caught up now 2 weeks later...

Dory that external movement must be wild! I can't wait for that stage.

Right now I'm bumping out a bit but mostly relying on my incredible, amazing, I really love it so Doppler for morning and night heartbeat checks. It's quite reassuring but I'm ready for some consistent kicks.

Started antenatal yoga tonight - was a bit skeptical at first but it was full of useful info, lovely bumps and just the right amount of woo.

I've signed up for our NCT class, too. TOM didn't do it the first time around (they just did a quickie NHS thing) and we're both excited. He tried to organise it for me as a surprise but I saw it on the browser and wanted to have a say in the schedule!. Sweet intention, though.

I'm pretty set on BFing, too, Faife. I think you've got a good plan set up to convince the man to come around!

Not much else going on here other than work (& my countdown to Mat leave.) Oh yes, and I'm exhausted and hungry all the time. Grin

HaveALittleFaith · 03/09/2012 21:39

LauraPalmer..... LauraPalmer. Hmm that seems to ring a bell! Wink
How luffly to see you! Glad the Doppler is giving reassurance. I was thinking of doing preggers Pilates in the village since the gym is out (abdo pain) now the weather is drawing in.

I'll look into NCT but it's a bit behind the times here.

I've ended up watching OBEM it was on after Hart of Dixie and had the oh my Gosh I've got to give birth thought Grin yikes! The OH is a total knob! I like the idea of home birth but MSB isn't keen. Apparently first babies are higher risk so maybe next time Wink

blonderthanred · 03/09/2012 22:41

Hello LP, glad all is going well. The yoga is good isn't it, I always get a bit grumpy at the beginning but by the end I feel so much better. I always say that I hobble to the class and then skip back.

My teacher wasn't too wooey but went off to have her baby and her mum took over the class. Her mum has a bell of mindfulness. Hmm

blonderthanred · 03/09/2012 22:41

(that was meant to be italics)

FriendofDorothy · 04/09/2012 08:21

Hurray! We are on our way to court to buy a house!

HaveALittleFaith · 04/09/2012 08:46

Hooray! Grin

LauraPalmer · 04/09/2012 08:51

Grin @ bell of mindfulness

Good luck at court today - what a wonderful day it is to buy a house!

I haven't ever watched OBEM (too scared?) but I've been enjoying the Midwives on iPlayer.

Today is the day we tell TinyTOM about becoming a brother...

LauraPalmer · 04/09/2012 08:52

Obviously the house/court message was directed at you Dory!

queenrollo · 04/09/2012 09:04

another absent member here. I've been feeling a bit like a hermit, not very communcative and trying to stay off the computer as I can waste way too much time on it otherwise.

17 weeks yesterday. Midwife appt tomorrow when I need to tell her to tell the hospital to bugger off and leave me alone. I have lots of questions for her......

I've had a return of morning nausea here, and HOLB is working from home today because he's full of cold. I've been nagging him to use his steroid inhaler for days because he's been coughing again (previous serious chest infection means he always gets them, last one took months to clear up)......I'm going to kill him move into the spare room if it gets as bad as last time.

cakeandcava · 04/09/2012 09:26

Hurray Dor! Hope it all goes smoothly :)

Queenie sorry the hospital is bugging you -can you just ignore them, or are they making things awkward?

LP that's so sweet -how are you going to tell him?

NCT class last night was really good actually! I'm impressed. Teacher was excellent, and not at all judgmental or too heavy on the woo. The other people in the group seem nice (vair true about the whole 'married middle class couples in their 30s -but then I guess we are that too Blush) And we got our first taster of baby product placement gifts courtesy of a well-known washing powder brand...

queenrollo · 04/09/2012 09:46

at my 12 week scan they referred me because of my low BMI. Registrar agrees that I am healthy and it is my natural build but wants me to have growth scans anyway.
Because my DS was born at 35+5 by their dates (37+5 by mine and I know when I got pregnant) they want me to have monthly vaginal swabs, urine tests and cervical checks.
It's all unecessary, I mostly object to them trying to TELL me I have to have them. And also being TOLD if i get to 40 weeks they will see me to book an induction (didn't like it when I pointed out I was entitled to expectant management), then TOLD me I need to see the consultant at 36 weeks for permission to have a Home Birth. (didn't like it when I pointed out I am legally allowed to have my baby where I want)

And which consultant have they placed me under? The idiot I had formy fertility stuff, who I am in the process of writing a complaint about to submit to the Customer Care division.

I have absolutely no problem with tests, investigations and Cons led care if they can provide me with sound clinical reason for needing them. But basically this is because 1/they are covering their backs and 2/ this consultant is known for being a control freak who really likes to 'manage' his pregnant ladies.
I feel this is even more so with me because he gave me the surgery that enabled me to get pregnant and probably wasn't happy that I cancelled the follow up appt with him and discharged myself from his care to take up Community Midwife care instead.

HaveALittleFaith · 04/09/2012 10:22

Hello all. I'm so tired. Recurring theme I know. What to expect when you're expecting says the stress on your body is similar to mountain climbing. Feels like it! My job comes to an end at the end of the month and I'm struggling to find any enthusiasm because of this and pregnancy tiredness. I'm working at a snail's pace! I can tell I'm tired, my dyslexic habits keep popping up. I keep muddling up your/you're.

queenie I hope your MW is kick ass tomorrow and fights your corner! Nice to see you around again.

Glad the NCT was good cakey. You're probably right about the PESH demographic. I hadn't really thought about it before!

FriendofDorothy · 04/09/2012 10:34

Hurray! We now own a house. Now all the hard work starts!
