Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
HaveALittleFaith · 30/08/2012 17:18

Hey PESHies!

Yes I would like to use reusable nappies. My sister used bum genius nappies and said I could utilise her supply. As long as they're washed at a high temperature it'll be hygienice.

Well I have met my midwife. Is she is luffly! Best thing was according to her scales my BMI was 29! Grin my fasting blood glucose was ok too.
Pliz tell me to talk better care of myself though. I had a busy morning and haven't really eaten that much Confused I need an arae kicking to look after me and the baybee better.

blonder glad the party was fun. Hope your appointment was ok this afternoon.

Honesty drizz my overwhelming symptom is exhaustion. I am so very, berry tired. The nausea isn't too bad if I eat plenty of protein.

HaveALittleFaith · 30/08/2012 17:29

Oh yes and they confirmed today they won't operate until 'after my pregnancy'. Which doesn't surprise me but is unfortunate because obviously I need lots of pain killers. Made a doctors appointment for next week to get advice on medications.

blonderthanred · 30/08/2012 18:20

Appointment didn't go as well as expected. Long wait, then nurse saw the high reading this morning (7.8 which is the upper limit for post-food) and said I'd have to be put on insulin and referred me to the doctor. As had only paid for an hour in car park had to go back out, tried to phone TBI but no reception, got rained on, cried quite a lot.

Back up to see doctor (actually 3 doctors), they said as the other readings had been ok, I should check it tomorrow and if it was high again I would have to come back and start insulin.

Also got in trouble for not eating enough carbs as there were ketones in my urine. Feel a bit pathetic and teary about the whole thing. A few weeks ago my midwife described me as a "nice healthy pregnant woman", now I feel like it's all going wrong. It's all so rushed and I feel like I've lost control. I wanted to avoid the insulin but don't want to do the wrong thing for the baby. The measurements are fine and so is my BP.

Sorry to be so wah me me me but I am feeling a bit scared.

HaveALittleFaith · 30/08/2012 18:49

Oh :( blonde, what a rubbish appoitment. I think it's quite drastic to suggest insulin after one high blood glucose reading. I hope it's lower again tomorrow. It's clearly a tricky balancing act with the carbs! Obviously it would be preferable not to insulin but if it's going to be the best thing for you and baybee you'll make it work. Is TBI looking after you now?

I have had to tell MSB to look after me more! I feel blardy terrible - bad head, really tired so it's an easy tea and I've made him help with sorting it.

blonderthanred · 30/08/2012 20:09

Thanks Faith, I am torn between my instinct to go along with all medical advice but also wanting not to be rushed into anything that doesn't quite seem necessary (esp as I've had conflicting info at each appt). TBI came to meet me at work and is cooking dinner. I feel better now I'm home.

Sorry you are feeling so rough, you really must take extra care of yourself after everything you've been through.

HaveALittleFaith · 30/08/2012 20:20

I completely agree - take the advice but cautiously!

I am in bed! I reaped the benefit of pre-cooked dinner - just defrosted the chilli and we had jackets. Yum yum! I made MSB help though. Once dinner settled I showered and washed my hair while I still had the oomph. It needs drying but it's progress. :)

FriendofDorothy · 30/08/2012 21:34

I am home, bathed and on my second load of laundry.

I am sorry you had a shitty appointment blonde. I think it is sensible to get another reading tomorrow but the reality is that insulin may be the appropriate treatment. It doesn't mean you have done anything wrong, I guess shit just does sometimes happen.

I continue to menkul about not feeling much movement. I have a GP appointment tomorrow which is for a 24 week check. I hope that I will hear a nice healthy heartbeat. I continue to feel quite fatalistic at times :(

In better news, it looks like the house will be going through on Tuesday :)

HaveALittleFaith · 30/08/2012 22:12

I told my MW today we are super paranoid about the baybee just because it took so long and she spoke along the lines of that being perfectly understandable. Here's to a good thumping hb at your scan! Brilliant news about the house. All the craziness sorted out then?

HaveALittleFaith · 30/08/2012 22:12

(sorry at your appointment) maybe you should get a Doppler too? MSB googled them and said for 20 quid we should get one further down the line as reassurance!

blonderthanred · 30/08/2012 22:41

Dor I'm sorry you're still not feeling much movement (but you are feeling some now, I hope). Did you say if you had an anterior placenta? That seems to make quite a difference.

Faith I hope you're enjoying your new mattress...

FriendofDorothy · 30/08/2012 22:55

I think my notes said that my placenta was left lateral. i just think I am deeply insensitive! Unfortunately it just feeds into my paranoia!

blonderthanred · 30/08/2012 23:19

The list of things to worry us is neverending. Hope your appt goes well and your baby gives the doppler a good kick.

FriendofDorothy · 30/08/2012 23:21

Thanks. I know I sound like I am whinging, but it is just worrying me!

blonderthanred · 30/08/2012 23:25

You don't at all. I win the prize for whinging today anyway Smile

HaveALittleFaith · 31/08/2012 07:01

dor and blonder this process is scary enough for most people but with our backgrounds, every little twinge/symptom/lack of symptom is terrifying. Getting it out here is just like therapy!

The mattress is awesome. MSB is still skeptical but the back pain he's had for a fortnight is settling down Wink

lovesLemonDrizzleCake · 31/08/2012 07:48

I see there is a competition going I can join in too, whinging is GOOD. No symptoms, but a bout of thrush coming on and the only thing that usually helps you can't take while diffed... :(

Really hope the baybee is doing just fine in there, dot and you'll feel reassured.

And blonde the GD is a pain. Wise things have been said by others, good luck with getting it all under control, one way or another.

Yay for sleeping well faif! He'll come round, eventually!

blonderthanred · 31/08/2012 11:10

Blood was 8.1 this morning so looks like I am on the insulin. Called the nurse as instructed but no reply so left message. Mum & TBI both want to come to the hospital so they know what's meant to be happening too. Which is kind of nice although also makes me feel about 14!

I have quite a bad history of anxiety and depression (hence the late start for baybee-making in the first place) and I can feel myself slipping so I can understand their concern though.

I can live with the insulin if someone will explain to me the implications for the birth process so I can get my head round it, in terms of induction, IV drips, pain relief etc. I know they can't definitely say but I need to have an idea of the options and I'm worried about movement being restricted. Unfortunately they seem to be "between" diabetic midwives at the moment and the consultant and nurse are more focussed on the medication.

So no let up with the whinging I'm afraid. Ooh thrush Driz that is not nice esp when super sensitive from all the extra hormones and blood. Have you got a bowl of yogurt you can sit in?

Look forward to hearing from Dot...

cakeandcava · 31/08/2012 11:26

Oh Blonde, I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's shitty. I don't know very much about diabetes, but I would think that going on insulin, although it might feel like defeat, is the best thing to do here. Insulin is naturally produced in the body, so it's not really a foreign drug to your system, and if it can keep things under control, and make sure your baby doesn't get too high or low glucose levels in his/her blood, then that sounds like a good thing.

It doesn't have to mean that you will get induced, although I realise risks are higher. If the baby is still measuring fine, and doing well, I would presume they'll let you just get on with things? I really hope you get someone to talk you through it properly very soon.

Hope everything goes well at your appointment Dot. Great news about the house!

And lems I think bio-yoghurt is still allowed...

blonderthanred · 31/08/2012 12:12

Thanks cake, I don't know what I would do without all you guys.

They said on insulin they will pretty much definitely induce at 38 weeks as there is a high risk of the placenta failing or other complications like pre-eclampsia. I think that seems fairly standard from looking obsessively on hospital websites. I can live with that but I'd like to know what it entails. On the Metformin it would have depended more on how I/the baby was doing. At this stage I just want it all to be over and the baby to be on the outside of my body. I am so scared of failing it before it's even born.

Anyway after all the drama and urgency they now haven't returned my calls... So I am sitting at work and waiting (I'm meant to be in charge so I probably should do some actual work).

FriendofDorothy · 31/08/2012 13:27

Oh blonde so sorry that you are feeling like that. I guess the only consolation is that it sounds like you are going to be well monitored (if they ever get back to you that is!)

My GP appointment was really good today. I heard healthy heartbeat and he was wriggling away. The GP was quite unconcerned (in a nice way) about me not feeling much movement and said that everything looks fine. BP was fine to low-ish but nothing to worry about.

All good. Still pisses me off that I have to pay nearly £50 to see my GP tho!

After that we went to the bank to transfer an obscene amount of money to our advocates for the house deposit, fees etc. A friend has just listed her flat for sale in Leeds for less than the amount of money we transferred today. Scarey!

HaveALittleFaith · 31/08/2012 17:46

:( blonde. How rubbish. But it's not about you not doing things right, if just that your insulin production is up the spout. Makes sense to add in what you can't make. I understand you want to understand more about the process when having the baybee. Perfectly reasonable!

Glad it's all good with baby FOD! Must be reassuring for you.

Did I tell you my BP was 90/60 yesterday?! Must eat better! I have decided to go with my stomach/taste buds. I don't want sweet stuff (my previous Achilles heel) so I have bought plenty of Philly and crackers to snack on. Yum :) I also got the vitamin D the midwife said I needed.

blonderthanred · 31/08/2012 18:40

Hurray for beautiful heartbeat Dor! I am so pleased and hopefully the GP's reaction about the lack of movement has reassured you, worth £50 of anyone's money. Have you much else to sort out with the house still?

We all seem to have low BPs! Mine is always low-ish, about 100, and it's been slightly higher during the pg but not much. Make sure you all eat sensibly now. Bung some salt in your dips Faith.

Been back to the hospital to get the insulin. I just have to inject it before breakfast for now. She said that breakfast was the most common problem because hormones were more active then (odd). Also have glucose gel in case I go hypo. Was a bit depressed but have come back to work and tidied office and feel much better now. Thank you all for nice supportiveness. TBI making nice anniversary dinner for me to go home to once I have done the last few bits of work that need doing this week.

Blissful day of nothingness planned tomorrow.

HaveALittleFaith · 31/08/2012 18:44

You sound a bit better blonde, which is good. Dinner sounds nice! What's he cooking?

I'm sure the crackers and Philly are chocca with salt!

dor if I had to pay £50 every time I saw the GP I'd be skint! Confused Do you have to pay for the midwife? What about having the baby?! I'm really pleased the house is going through for you. Such a scary time handing over big wads of cash!

FriendofDorothy · 31/08/2012 22:34

We basically have to pay for primary care on the island. The actual cost of seeing a GP is just over £60 but social security subsidise it by about £20 (I think) and then we have to pay the rest. We also have to pay to see nurses and for blood tests etc.

It is free to see the midwives and obstetricians as they are secondary care but we do have to pay for the GP to sign me and baby out of hospital post-delivery. Think that is about £97. It's a complete con!

HaveALittleFaith · 31/08/2012 22:48

We whine about the NHS but where would we be without it?!
