I did a reasonable amount of moderate gym work in my first 8 weeks.... since then I have done bugger all because I had those bleeding scares. Don't think it had anything to do with the amount of exercise I was doing tho!

bugs if you aren't comfortable doing it then don't. I sat on my arse on my sofa for most of the first 14 weeks, I didn't even have morning sickness as an excuse, the headfuck element was too much for me to even do very much at all. If you want an excuse to dodge the raindrops and go to work in the car then you have a perfectly good one! Don't feel obliged to continue with something that is making you nervous just because it is considered to be risk free.

Itwasonastarrymole · 11/06/2012 18:38

bugger (hello!!) I ran a ten km 'funrun' at 27 weeks, after continuing to run all pg until then, based on the whole 'carrying on what you were doing before is fine, but don't do new stuff' philosophy. I did have a fair few wobbles along the way, thinking that I would never forgive myself if something happened, and trying to balance that with staying relatively for a biffer 'fit and healthy'. I always felt so much better afterwards, and actually had energy, so I took that as a good sign to keep carrying on. Not saying don't stop if you think it's not doing you good, but if it makes you feel great, then all these things help the positive mind set.

Itwasonastarrymole · 11/06/2012 18:40

Sorry- started writing that about 1 hour ago, and took me so long in between football that I've kind of crossed posts a billion times, Blush

My understanding is that exercise is good, won't cause a mc, but if you have old blood or a sensitive cervix you might have a little blood, however this is normal and not related to baybee-stickage. It could also happen from sex or even just day-to-day walking about.

The others are right, just follow the philosophy of carrying on a level of exercise your body is used to, but listen when your body is tired or achey and rest. I was totally unfit lazy caah here too so docs advised to take it easy until 2nd tri, now I'm swimming and yoga-ing which is fun and feels good.

cakeandcava · 11/06/2012 19:53

I think unless your hobby is skydiving whilst smoking crystal meth, there is actually very little you can really do to cause it to go wrong in the first trimester.

Do what feels ok, but if your body is complaining, stop doing it. I've not done much exercise, but I walk to work, 30 minutes each way, which I suppose is something. I intend to do this as long as I feel up to it. Hoping to get onto a yoga course soon though.

LP (hi!) I hope that's cheapies you're pissing on -if so, go on, you're continuing in time-honoured ESH tradition Wink

Just popping in to mention that I laid at the Whittington Jewels and have nothing but good things to say about them! I very much wanted a water birth in the mw-lead birthing centre but I picked the busiest day of last year to labour and it (as well as the delivery suite, labour and triage wards!) was full. A labour ward birth was bottom of my list of things I wanted, but it was a great experience with a fabulous midwife who coached me amazingly. We were very well looked after. Birth centre is amazeballs (we had a tour just before due date and were extremely impressed)

Lovely to see an active PESH thread again. Good work BESHes!

Truffkin · 11/06/2012 21:02

Sorry, that took me an age to finish and had missed menkulling posts Blush Everyone else has said it already but it bears repeating Bugs; unless your hobbies are parachute jumping whilst snorting tequila, you aren't harming your baybee. Cake carrying is a different matter altogether though Grin

LauraPalmerish · 11/06/2012 21:13

Shit. Does this mean I've got to give up mud wrestling and smoking opium?

Today I am pregnant.

LauraPalmerish · 12/06/2012 09:47

I'm feeling ver ver green around the gills this morning...too bad I've got so much work on at the moment. Would rather lie in bed all day. Not sure where I'm going to pluck the energy from to complete today's & the rest of yesterday's tasks.

How's everyone else?

queenrollo · 12/06/2012 09:56

having a wobbly moment. When I got pg with DS i didn't worry at all. I was utter overflowing excitement right from the off. This time I'm just wishing the early weeks away so I can have a scan and see that everything is OK. We've not told a soul, and I'm finding that difficult because there are people I want to share the news with. We told a handful of close friends at the beginning of the year and felt awful when we had to tell them it had all gone wrong.
My boobs still hurt but seem to have settled down. I'm trying very hard to be positive. DH and I have barely talked about it, I think because we don't know what to say right now.
Have emailed my Consultants secreatry this morning and going to see GP on Thursday morning. I'm supposed to have an early to scan to rule out ectopic.

cakeandcava · 12/06/2012 11:57

The time leading up to the first scan is massively shit, and there isn't really much to do except slog through :(
Early scans are a good idea I think -although ruling out ectopic sounds scary. We paid for one at 8+3 and it was really good to get some reassurance after the previous mmc -but the 12-week date still loomed a bit even at that.

I have a random question for the second-time differs and those further along on here -how do you manage to cut your toenails towards the end? I was doing it yesterday and already bump is squeezing a bit uncomfortably towards legs -do you just give up on anything leg/foot-related and grow hairy talons?

queenrollo · 12/06/2012 12:52

towards the end I had to get my then p to cut my toe-nails! and lived with hairy legs....but it was July and hot and I was so uncomfortable I didn't really care how unkempt I looked!!

actually cakeandcava you've reminded me that with DS I found out I was diffed just before Christmas, so had the excitement of that and New Year to keep me going. Once I'd been to the GP and was waiting for my booking in with midwife and 12 week scan i felt completely underwhelmed. My sensible head tells me all is going to be OK, but having had a chemical pregnancy at the beginnng of the year I've constantly got that in the back of my mind.

CurlyCasper · 12/06/2012 13:00

I have come to moan. I am grateful to be diffed and all, but having the shits for a fourth day running is not fun. My second born will suffer for this... one day. Talking of scannage, I had a scan already in the pipeline for other gynae issues. It's abdo and pelvic, and happening in just over a fortnight. I am hoping that although it's not in the obstetrics department, they'll have a check on my baybee. I reckon I'll be 7 weeks then, and I got to see MiniGhost at 7+5 and she was visible as a little jelly baby, heart beating etc.

Morning all,

Hope you're doing better curly -have you tried eating lots of fiber (ah, the joys of helpful pregnancy advice -do tell me to stuff it if necessary) -apparently it regulates things towards normality?

bugs part of me wants to say hope the queasiness isn't too bad, but another part says bring it on! I was seriously queasy from about week 5-6 until week 13-14, and although it was horrid, it was also kind of nice and reassuring (with apologies to anyone suffering from hyperemesis).

How is everyone today then?

queenrollo · 13/06/2012 11:06

have head from the Consultant secretary who has said if I wish I can have Beta HCG test to confirm pregnancy and then they will calculate from the levels when I will be 6-7 weeks for early scan to rule out ectopic. OR I can simply present to my GP to be referred to Community Midwife for ante-natal care. The NHS isn't very joined up is it!!
I've emailed back accepting the offer of early scan but asked her to clarify if I still need GP referal to CM or whether my Consultant will do this instead. I have no desire to be under this Cons for the duration!

queenrollo · 13/06/2012 11:07

heard

laurielou · 13/06/2012 12:02

Hope you get the scan date through soon Bugs. It's a horrible wait. It will be worth it though.

Sounds like you are pleased to have made the decision about the cycling which will give your body as much rest as it needs while keeping fit on a lower level.
