hello, much better news today ,both babies have put a little weight on,the bigger baby will have her feeding tube out tomorrow if she has gained more weight when they weigh them in the morning. The reason they didnt want to increase top up is because they would then feed less from their mum,so it all makes sense. My sister much happier today, but i dont know if my brother still wants to go on Sunday. A breast training person has been helping my sister with different techniques for feeding them and it has been very helpful to her.So not so worrying today.

mummylin2495 · 17/02/2012 21:12

bigboobsatlast i just read your last post and wanted to just say that a friend of mine gave birth to twins at 35 weeks. They wanted her to have a c section but she was adamant she wanted a natural birth. She got her own way,but they were delivered in theatre just in case of an emergency. She and her babies were fine

claireinmodena · 17/02/2012 21:51

Bigboobs well done on finishing work! I know it sounds early, but a twin pregnancy is so much tougher on the body, its hard to believe until you try it.

Rednellie I'm so happy for you about the new ob and twin a turning, I hoped til the very last min and hated having a cs. I started crying in theatre when i realise they were about to cur as that meant it was really happening... Anyway, I'm now nearly 10 days pp (tmrw) and Have started feeling human again. I still have swollen feet, but they're not as massive. And ny oelvic pain has begun to subside (taking its b!*y time though!).

At iur check up on wed the twins had not put any weight on, so we had to go on a fatening up mission for 2 days, feeding every 3 hrs and expressing to check intake rather than breastfeeding durectly. It di give results though as they have out on weight and hospital peads was happy Grin

I am slowly increasing the breastfeeds abd I am amazed I 'm feeding them both on the one breast! Emma had a bit of a boob strike fir a few days, but I'm more stubbirn and now shes happy to take the breast and bottle.

They are very good in that they fall askeep by themselves, and only fuss if hungry/need burping, uncomfortable. In many ways they!re easier than dd1 who would bot tolerate to be put down anywhere, but be held!

The hospital has been our only outing, but we had much headturning and a few idiotic comments.

They are so cute and fubnily dtb looks like dd1 while dtg is dd2's spitting inage.

Bb3 I'll try to put a couple of photos, I'd rather not make them titally public do need to work out what I can do.

Hope you're all well, I keep reading and following your news but its hatd to find the time, what with ny other 2 daughters!

Mummy I'm glad to heR things are improving fir your sisters babiies

Giod night!!

goingmadtrying · 17/02/2012 22:04

excellent news Claire and well done on the bf :)

rednellie · 17/02/2012 22:57

Yey, brilliant news all round! Thanks for everyone (is it just me who gives flowers as a congratulations, rather than as 'thanks'?)

claire, you are a super star and I am so pleased you're getting to breast feed. Told you you could do it with the one! And never forget, when you express you don't get out half as much as when they feed so always take that into consideration. So glad they're putting on weight. Brilliant news.

mummylin, am so relieved! Your sister sounds like she's had a very stressful time and am really pleased she's getting some support. I hope you get to go see them soon.

bigboobs - 26 weeks seems to be fairly common amongst all us lot for finishing work. I am reveling in having my Mum here (poor woman hasn't even had the chance to recover from jet lag and I've got her doing the laundry) as toddlers are pretty manic. Also, re: VB versus C-section with twins - I really do think it depends on the OB you get on the day. I've come to accept that if my two are still in their slightly peculiar positions and my doc isn't on call I will be having a c-section as not every doctor is comfortable with delivering twins vaginally/breech births. It's a hard one, and I think even more so than with a singleton pregnancy you just have to prepare yourself for every eventuality. I mean, last time round I planned a home birth, with no pain killers and a physiological third stage. OK, I managed one out of the three (no drugs), but it was still a pretty low key birth. This time round I know there'll be lots of machines that go ping, but I also know I can deal with that and at least now I feel in control and am able to get accurate information.

Right, sermon over! Grin Am off to eat more biscuits...5 ikea chocolate biscuits is fine in one sitting, right? Right?

bigboobsatlast · 18/02/2012 19:22

Just popping in quickly.

Going mad, looked at all my notes and reports but can't see where heartbeat is recorded. Will try and make a note at this wks appt!
Watched OBEM. Cried eyes out!

Hope all mums and babies are well

goingmadtrying · 18/02/2012 21:18

thanks Claire just curious??

also have had a scare tonight my nephew who i saw on Monday looks like he has chicken pox!!! i was with him for no more than an hour and didn't pick him up but what are the risks?? I've had chicken pox before also worried now as although the boys have had it dc1 didn't get it very bad??? really worried after googling it

mummylin2495 · 18/02/2012 22:32

One baby had tube out today.the smaller one still has hers and is still getting top up feeds.Hopefully in a few days things will be much better. My sister is much happier today. Tonight she has sent me a little video of them to my email but i cant open the damn thing. I am not going to kent tomorrow ,my brother cant make it.

BB3 · 19/02/2012 06:43

Yay mummylin that's great.

And Claire well done! Sounds like e&r are doing brilliantly.

Dream I've had three nights of crappy sleep and I'm not heavily pg and I am actually the most miserable zombified mother possible (poor dh). How on earth are you doing it?!

Rednellie - you sound so much happier under new ob, will you be on epidural etc if you have a vb?

Sorry if I've missed anyone out, I'm a miserable zombified mother on an iPhone!!! Xxx

rednellie · 19/02/2012 14:01

goingmad - I can't remember what the exact guidlines are re: chicken pox. I think if you've had it you should be ok...someone with more knowledge needs to come along. dreaming is quite good on this sort of stuff...wish I could help more.

Yey mummylin, great news, but I am sorry you wont get to have cuddle. I'm sure you will soon and it must be great for your sister to have such lovely support.

BB3, my new OB is happy for me to labour at home for the first bit and not site an epi until I'm about 8cms. I've been told they can site it and give a test dose, but then leave it wear off unless they need to top it up for any, ahem, manipulation. Watching OBEM though, I was wondering if she did it all sans epi - I know she was eventually asking for one, but it looked like she was feeling the OB's hand when he was looking around for baby B? They never give you enough detail on OBEM. Anyway, I'll also have to have monitoring and an IV sited as well, so all in all there'll be a lot more tubes coming out of me. I'm feeling confident about it though as once I got transferred in with DD I had the monitoring belts on and an IV sited, but still managed to move around a lot on the bed. Also, I think having an epi this time round wont be so bad as at least I know what pushing felt like? However, all depends on baby A moving his little foot out of the way. Got my last scan for a while on Wednesday so yet again hoping for some movement...I'm almost 35 weeks. Can't believe it!

DreamingOfPeace · 19/02/2012 14:51

DD has conjunctivitis in both eyes and the cough/cold and her chest is really rattly and a bit wheezy again. So, of course, she's not sleeping well again. DH did have her all night the night before last (so I've had one un-DD-disturbed night in 5), but then he was knackered last night and wasn't even waking up when she was crying, even when I stomped out of bed muttering 'FFS!' quite loudly!!! So I'm also joining the miserable zombified mother club Smile. It's annoying as she's in full mummy-mode and very, VERY clingy with me, so I struggle to put her down- I had 2 of those moments when I was creeping out of her room, after having been sat there a good while, and both times I'd thought she was definitely asleep again and as soon as I was out of sight the crying started.... gutted! I couldn't not go back as she's both ill, and my friend was the other side of a stud wall to her! The night before it was only taking dh 20 minutes to re-settle her to my 2 hours last night- bah. Could have been coincidence but I'm sure it's better if he does it. Anyway, enough of my constant, continual, mind-numbing whinging about sleep.

My friends did come, though one went again as she was ill too and is spending the weekend in bed at home now- me, jealous?! They'd arranged a massage for me though- and at home so it was perfect, I didn't have to leave little DD, really lovely thought of theirs.

goingmad, my DD had hand foot and mouth quite badly before Christmas, and I'd taken her to the GP for her chest and to see if it was chicken pox. He did think it was and was concerned about me having had it even though I said I thought I had but we thought we remembered it but when my mum said we'd had it we were way too little to remember. He looked twitchy then, but I then finally remembered I've had shingles too (ie definitely had chicken pox) at which he totally relaxed and was not at all concerned for me or babies- if you've had it, you're fine. If you're not sure, they will blood test you (as he was going to before I remembered the shingles). So I hope your DS1 has also had it too and no-one in your household gets any lurgy!

rednellie Y Y Y to 5 biscuits. 2 for you, one for each baby, one for good luck. I'm currently on a at least one Creme Egg a day habit. Selling them so buying 2 is cheaper is just unfair, I can't restrain myself, plus biscuits and various junk... my resolve to snack more healthily hasn't really happened at all yet. Someone who had twins in Lancaster hospital recently- they're 8 months- has said she had hers without an epidural- not what I've been told at all. However, the new twin birth policy has only been around for literally one month, so maybe it's changed. The whole reason for big policy change at our hospital trust is too-high rates of maternal and foetal mortality and morbidity so if they say new policy I shall assume it's new and improved and go with it!

Anyone got any ideas for rib pain? Getting unbearable. I know thats a silly thing to say, as I'll have to bear it, but I am wildly uncomfortable, can't really lie on a side any more, get out of breath on my back, and nothing seems to really ease it... Any suggestions?!

claire, how wonderful you're bf both babies. You and the others with their babies are inspirational. Keep up the good work!

mummylin, wonderful your sisters twins are doing better, great one tube is out.

Right, off to get on with what I'm meant to be doing which is ordering some cotbed sheets for the boys when they arrive (in the good old spirit of be ready and they'll wait til term!) xx

mummylin2495 · 19/02/2012 15:09

Even better news today ,they may be able to go home tomorrow providing weights are ok .They are now 4lb 10 and 5lb 5 oz.neither are up to birth weight yet though. But at least its going the right way now. I have bought them the cutest little outfits and can wait to see the babies. My sister sent me a picture of them both snuggled up in the blankets i made for them with a little caption saying ," night night Auntie Lin" was very sweet .

goingmadtrying · 19/02/2012 18:53

rednellie & dream thank you for the responses, I've spoken to the mw office this morning who advised me to contact the gp tomorrow to see if they can check whether when my booking in bloods were done they checked the immunity to chicken pox, apparently they sometimes test as a routine??. i also spoke with my mum who said i had it quite badly as a child and may even have had it twice, ds1 did have it before but not many spots, so hoping he doesn't get it again.

mummylin great to hear the babies are doing well fingers crossed for home tomorrow to:)

feeling a little better i am going to ask the gp for another sick note so that i can have a week of good resting with the boys back at school and hopefully they should get the blood test results back. have a good week everyone :)

BB3 · 20/02/2012 04:11

Rednellie - Blimey 35 weeks that came around quick!

Mummy, that is fantastic news. Just great.

Going - you should be fine but worth checking and also taking that extra time off.

Dream - I'm with you on clingy kids I've got three kids with eye infections and colds and ds just wouldn't go to sleep last night. I finally had to drop my grandfather home and the lovely little monkey was asleep within 2 minutes with my mum Angry he wanted me but at the same time didn't want to sleep while I was there and completely playing up for me. He won't go to anyone else if I'm here but actually is better behaved and calmer when I'm not around.

I've been up since 2am with girls and they have just gone back to sleep I'm trying to decide if I should sleep for an hour or two before getting up for work or whether that will just make me feel worse xx

DreamingOfPeace · 20/02/2012 08:41

Urgh, think I'd go for the extra hour or 2 sleep but its not great either way BB3! And i believe its impossible to get those drops into their eyes. Me and dh working together fail!!

Another bad night night with dd here. And gaviscon seems to have stopped working for my reflux/ heartburn which makes nights even more unpleasant. Very jealous of your 35 weeks rednellie . I hope this is a phase I'll get through but i can't imagine another 6 and a bit weeks of this... Sure BB3 said there's a point around 30 odd weeks of hitting the wall and then it gets easier again?! Hope you're getting miles more rest with your mum there. How's dd? Is she sleeping any better?

How long now til next scan goingmad? Definitely try for another week off. It only gets harder, you really do need to look after yourself (& that's from someone who in hindsight breezed through her first pregnancy and expected to do the same, twins or not, now...)

rednellie, I watched OBEM. I think she did it all without one as she asked too late and they said it wouldn't be working in time?? Looked very painful for those bits but not for that long, depending how true to time OBEM is- I spoke to a mum where they spent 45 min trying to turn her twin B and couldn't, then delivered breech and she said it was excruciating!! (They were 3&4 for her and labour so fast no time to get epi in- she had a CS date too!)

Teds77 · 20/02/2012 12:15

Sorry for lack of personals but just wanted to pop on to reassure goingmad. I came into contact with chicken pox at 10 weeks but midwife/Dr/fertility clinic (some IVF drugs suppress your immunes) were all very reassuring about it as I'd already had chicken pox.

You are more than likely immune and even if your immunity wasn't tested at the booking in bloods then don't stress because, effectively, it doesn't make any difference now (I say that to reassure though I know it may sound a little blunt). I was advised to just keep checking for symptoms (flu-y/temperature/any spots etc) and to go to the Dr immediately if I suspected anything.

I know that it's hard to be calm (I got very flappy!) but if you've had it you really should be okay xx.

mummylin2495 · 20/02/2012 12:22

Great news, they have all gone home this morningthanks for taking the time to ask about the babies, good luck to all of you expecting soon

DreamingOfPeace · 20/02/2012 14:33

Hello teds, lovely to see you!

I've finally peeled DD from her perch on my bump and she's napping (this child, the one who can't go to sleep at night and I spend hours with/on landing for, lets me put her in her sleeping bag, read her one story, quick cuddle and down wide awake at naps btw- irritating, no?!) so I really need to join her. Her eyes are rank, and she's coughing a lot.

Just like your DS bb3, she's really, really clingy with me, if I'm in the room she won't sit with anyone else and read a book etc or be held by anyone else, but ok if I'm not there. She's learnt more signs- she can sign bird, spider, toast, wash my hair, where is it, listen/listening etc. She still doesn't have a word, but when she signs 'cheese' she tries to say it too- sounds a bit like 'eeezse' but I wouldn't recognise it without the sign iykwim. So I'm impressed so far. Plus she burst into tears when the lady signed 'all finished' at her last session, so she clearly loves it! Thinking of you working hard in Londona after virtually no sleep Sad Hope you feel ok-ish.

Today i am so uncomfortable I'm almost hoping for them to be early. (I do mean almost- still determined to get to term, even tired and grumpy). My cough is seriously challenging my pelvic floor- holding out so far but reminding me I'm not doing enough exercises.... Blush and my bump is sore- pulled all my tummy muscles coughing. boo!

Wonderful baby news mummylin

Right, I'm procrastinating. Off for a rest.

rednellie · 20/02/2012 19:15

We're all good here - getting some sleep (sorry!) with Mum here. Not sure she is as she's the room with DD!

Went out for a big girlies night/baby shower. It was great fun, I've got such lovely friends here - they made me a necklace where they each put a bead or a charm on it so that they can all 'support' me at the birth. Sounds a bit sappy written down, but it was amazing to get and made me all weepy. Again.

Hope everyone starts getting better DC's and more sleep. (Btw dream, what symptoms did your DD have for hand foot and mouth? Apparently someone at nursery has had it and I'm a bit suspicious of some of DD's spots...)

DreamingOfPeace · 20/02/2012 21:20

She had huge, obvious spots which mostly became blisters covering her nappy area, legs, arms, wrists, hands, not many on her feet, 10 blisters/ ulcers in her mouth. None on her torso. Came on quite suddenly from a mild rash the night before to full spottiness with 24 hours. Oh- and not sleeping, of course!!!!

Poor little thing didn't nap long without being on me (great!) and hasn't really been put down all day. I'm so knackered, but I'm really struggling to sleep even when she's not demanding me.

4 more weeks maximum rednellie Envy

rednellie · 21/02/2012 02:45

I could go to 40...Grin

Just waiting for ya dreaming, keeping a seat warm...(and slightly damp)

BB3 · 21/02/2012 11:01

mummylin - that is really fantastic news!

Dream - bless dd, all my three have conjunctivitis, cold and coughs and it's a nightmare - I do think this is the worst winter of illness in my lifetime, I've never known it just go on so long. How many weeks are you now?

DreamingOfPeace · 21/02/2012 13:27

This winter of illness just won't end, I agree BB3!! All I ever post on here is 'dd is ill' Smile . I'm 31+5. It's crawling, probably as I'm so tired and sore.

rednellie · 21/02/2012 16:40

After doing so well we've finally hit the illness wall - DD's got hand foot and mouth and I've got a horrific cold.

I'm going back to bed. It's just not worth even trying to stand up straight today. Yuk. Sad

DreamingOfPeace · 21/02/2012 20:29

Oh what a shame rednellie. It is incredibly unfair to have a horrific cold on top of a twin pregnancy... I empathize from my bad cold/man flu position too. I hope your dd doesn't suffer too much with the hand foot and mouth. Normally its not as bad as my dd had apparently (nobody told her it was a mild viral illness- she suffered big time!-) but when dh caught it he agreed and said the blisters on his hands hurt like hell coming in from the cold- he was feverish for days with it too, like dd so don't be surprised if she gets miserable after she goes out in the cold. Thank goodness for calpol!!! And for your mum, who I'm guessing is on childcare. Good job she's there.

My dad visited today- I had my hair cut. Went to the tiny village hairdresser as i couldn't be bothered going into town. I would say I was the only person there under 80, literally (client wise!). Felt a bit out of place and not sure I'd go back but 200m from our house is a bonus!! Then I was feeling so rough I went to bed, and even managed a nap (maybe my 10th ever- falling asleep is not a talent of mine, irrespective of tiredness). I'm getting some shooting pains in my back and down my right leg Sad . Very intermittent, so maybe baby's position related but absolutely stopping me in my tracks... I feel sorry for everyone around me, I'm so fed up with it all at the minute!!!

How is everyone else getting on? reds, skitoo, bigboobs?

Hope you're off and resting goingmad- is your annual leave/ mat leave sorted for 28 weeks now?
