Sorry, phone playing up...
Betting I have them at 33 weeks . I couldn't believe she said it, betting on prem babies that'd be in special care stupid old bag . She really needs to engage brain before she opens her mouth- same as your mum at nursery. Twins just seem to gather unwelcome comments... Good luck with the 'official' changing of OB. It is such a different system there to the nhs.

mummylin, hope those babies still fattening up. Are they checking its not CF with the salt? They're probably not but i can't think of anything else to do with salt and babies! Anyway, here's to nice big babies.

Hope yours were fine at their check too Claire and also putting on weight. Plus that you didn't spend hours in a hospital corridor! Are they doing any better between feeds at night? How are you feeling?

I can't shake my cough and cold and am.really tired... And I keep reading things about birth and worrying myself. I'm desperate to avoid another tear and policy at our hospital is I would have to have an epidural, have to have syntocinon up after twin one's birth and have to be monitored. Sounds like a recipe for stuck on the bed, instrumental delivery and tearing to me, especially as that's what happened last time. I did ask if i could have the epidural sites but no drugs unless needed but certainly didn't get a definite yes- she said 'not really'. Now I'm betting i go into labour just before my CS date and panic!!! I am not very brave about this giving birth to twins business...

Hope you've got your feet up goingmad .not sure how in half term, but still!

goingmadtrying · 15/02/2012 11:31

mummygreat to hear babies putting on weight' hope their doing ok today

rednellie stupid woman good comeback from you though so hopefully she won't mention things again!

im not having a great day just spent an hour crying on the phone to my best friend, bless her she's so lovely :) its so hard cause i find carrying twins a constant worry and its so hard to share that worry with anyone :( had a bit of pink cm earlier and some strange pulling pains just hoping its stretching and stuff, why can't we have a window inside so you can just see everything . sorry for the me me post just feeling down :(

hope hour all having a better day x

rednellie · 15/02/2012 11:49

Oh goingmad hugs for you. And you must let yourself rely on your friends and family, it is a worrying time. We're all here too so you can say all the really irrational/mad stuff that's bothering you. xxx

dream - midwife could easily palpate both babies. Mine are so obviously separate I can practically do it myself. Baby B (or maybe A now, who knows) is still head down and in my pelvis and Baby A (or maybe B!!) is still head up. I'm just hoping he's got his foot out of the way. I'm doing lots of hip opening exercises to give them room, but seriously you can see Baby A's hand pushing my belly button up and then Baby B kicking me in the ribs. So weird and cool.

Regarding birth for twins - they can place the epi and give you a test dose just to make sure it's working. That way it's there if they need it for baby B, but they can let it run out so you can feel what you're doing/move around beforehand. Also, dream, remember they will be smaller than DD (even though ours seem to have not got that message yet, I'm sure they will) and this is your second pregnancy/labour therefore the chances of it being absolutely fine are much higher. I'm not pushing labour on you as I totally understand your reasons for being frightened, I just wanted to tell you all that as hopefully it'll help make you feel better?

I've done the deed and changed OB's so am feeling much more positive about the whole thing. Also, it means I've changed to the hospital which has the better NICU etc so all in all I think it's the right decision.

Hello everyone else - hope you're all OK!

mummylin2495 · 15/02/2012 14:09

babies have lost more weight despite being in hopital and having formula by tube and breast milk.My sister has asked if they can give them more but the hospital has said no.She is seeing the doctor this afternoon and will want some answers. My sister said the nurses are not concerned about the weight loss ,but of course my sister is. She has not said anything about dehydration yet today. She has sent me a picture of the smallest twin and i actually think she looks quite poorly.I am praying it is nothing more than the feeding which is wrong.

BB3 · 15/02/2012 14:47

dream, I also not pushing CS on you but you sound petrified of a vaginal birth, which is stressing you out (like you haven't got enough to worry about carrying two babies!). I think if you are really worried about it and would prefer a CS, your DH and consultant would both support your decision.

Rednellie, good luck with opening those hips

Mummylin, IMO babies in hospital with tubes etc ALWAYS look very poorly when actually they are not as bad. Ds looked like he was dying when he was in with bronchitis. I do hope that is the case with your sisters girls. What weights are they now? Your sister can request to see a doctor at any time so she doesn't have to wait until he comes round in the afternoon to get answers. Am keeping everything crossed for you.

mummylin2495 · 15/02/2012 20:07

No doctor has been round because they are very busy with prem babies today ,or so they said. The babies will be weighed again tomorrow and hopefully there will be an improvement. I may be able to go and see her on sunday ,one of my brothers has said because he has monday off we could actually go up and come back on sunday as he has no work the next day.I hope we can ,we will tell her dh but keep it secret from our sister and hopefully it will be a nice surprise and will cheer her up a bit too.It would also mean i would get to hold the babies !! its not definate yet but its a possibility.I think dh would be ok on his own for a day and family are on hand if he fell or anything like that. Why does everything happen at the same time ?

DreamingOfPeace · 15/02/2012 20:17

This is the problem bb3, I'm a wuss and afraid of a bad outcome for me or the babies. I work with a lot of cerebral palsy twins- admittedly the vast majority with CP secondary to prematurity but the odd birth trauma twin 2, plus said colleague with crash section too late to save twin 2. And i really want an intact perineum if possible! In my head the odds are bad and being told its most likely to be fine doesn't seem to help?! If i go into labour before 35 weeks I won't get a CS as better for babies to go through labour and vb (fine, if it's better for them I'll have to get on with it) but I reckon if i go into labour between 35 and 37+6 they'll try and push me into a vb (excuse the pun!). Which if its fine I'd probably end up pleased about, but the fear of it not being wouldn't/ won't go... Even if they're a bit smaller! A good friend had a third degree tear with a 6lb 4 baby- reckon my baby elephants could well be that :-) . It does help thinking they'd be smaller though at 36 ish weeks. I can't find my stop-mentalling-and-have-a-vb CD from last time so might have to reorder and see if it works again. (I can't believe how pro vb and absolutely determined not to have a CS I was in labour first time round!)

Stopping at last from that self-obsessed note- Hooray your twin B (or ? new twin A) is still head down rednellie! Glad you're all good to go with your new OB.

mummylin, I hope bb3 is right about it looking worse than it is. Hope both thriving soon.

goingmad, you poor thing. As a worrier too I know its so hard. I was even more mental earlier on (hard to imagine I know) and as has been said on here before, its because once you know you're carrying twins you're desperate for them both to.be just fine. As yours will be, I hope your next scan hurries up for some good reassurance for you. I was scanned at your stage for spotting and strong braxton hicks and both fine- maybe they'd do a quick scan with your symptoms before your next 'official' one?

rednellie · 15/02/2012 21:58

dream, is it possible for you to book an appointment with a senior midwife at the hospital to talk through your concerns? I think you've been left emotionally and physically scarred by your first birth and it might do you a world of good to sit down, go through what happened last time and work out the best plan for you this time round. I mean, it's not like it was even that long ago so it's not surprising it's all so fresh in your mind (and body). I really want you to be able to get some sort of closure on it all - try and think about how positive you felt after your last scan?

mummylin, thinking of your sister, it must be very frustrating for you to not be able to go to her.

I'm having a crap day. Sad. DD seems to have been picking up on all the vibes recently and has been having a hard time - one minute she's sweetness and light, the next she's awful. And she's started waking at night which she hasn't done since she was tiny. So basically we're all knackered and pissed off. I think I'm reaching that stage in the last trimester where you just want to murder everyone! Grin

BB3 · 16/02/2012 06:51

Oh goodness I'm up early with Edie-may (5am start!) and am using the time to clean the house do the washing and catch up one born every minute. I'm not doing it again, am in floods! The twin mummy did very well but the other lady got to me the most xxx

BB3 · 16/02/2012 08:35

Mummy, how are the girls this morning?

buonasera · 16/02/2012 13:38

BB3 I was fascinated watching the twin birth on OBEM! My OH asked me if it had swayed me from wanting a CS (he wants me to have a CS) but I don't think so - even though hers went very well it still looked like there was a lot of stuff that could've gone wrong for the second one.
(With the other one it was schadenfreude all the way. Yeah, it does hurt really a lot doesn't it? She looked like one of those fluffy ones that would talk to you like you were a 3 year old who didn't want to eat his porridge if you yell through the pain or don't push hard enough - so I hope that's given her food for thought :))

mummylin2495 · 16/02/2012 13:41

The biggest baby has put on 60grams and the smaller one 20gr.she is only weighing 4lb 9 oz even with that little weight gain. The smallest one also now has a swollen eye and they could not take her blood this morning for some reason, they are going to try again.I dont know the total weight of the bigger one yet.they said they will not increase the top up feed they are giving ,i suppose they have their reasons for this, but dont understand it.My sister said she is feeling very low.She was still waiting for the doc when she text me.I do hope i can get there on Sunday.I dont have anymore info on dehydration issues nor do i have any info on small babies eye.The birth weights were 5lb 15 and 5lb 5 oz.Its very worrying.

DreamingOfPeace · 16/02/2012 14:38

so, I have OBEM recorded- will it add to my stress or not if I watch it?!

what position are your babies in now buonasera? Do you even have a choice currently? I'm leaning heavily to CS but the caveat is not if I go into labour before 35 weeks as VB so much better for them then. Which obviously I'm not doing anyway Smile. Still worried if I by any minute chance did between 35 and 37+6 though...

bb3, superhuman!! I knew it! House cleaning at 5am Shock

mummylin, how worrying for your sister, hope they do both keep gaining now and she sees doctor soon.

Blooming DD up 3-5am. I can't sleep anyway, and have a cough and cold bad enough to be termed man-flu (but not proper flu!). Gah.

And got to nip into town now to do some jobs- get this stuff for the hospital bag to prevent prem labour Grin . hmm. I'd rather have a rest but I'm also really keen to just get it done....

BB3 · 16/02/2012 15:26

Dreaming I would watch it, it's not scary x

goingmadtrying · 16/02/2012 15:39

yes definitely watch it, i was really worried but it gave me a good idea of what may happen, there was more risk with number 2 but actually all worked out ok even though breech x

bigboobsatlast · 16/02/2012 19:22

Hello all. Apologies now for a short and selfish post.... had scan today and thankfully all ok with babies. But I saw a different consultant as my usual one on holiday.... and he was surprised that i had been told c-section was the recommendation and vb had not been offered as an option. Now I am so confused.... I thought the decision was out my hands but now appears may be not....

Goingmad what have you been told?

Sorry again for me me post. i finish work tomorrow so I will have more time to chat with you lovely ladies. x

rednellie · 16/02/2012 20:39

bigboobs, I can't remember (double baby brain) what the reasons were behind you being offered a c-section...Let me know and I can do a bit of research for you if you want? A lot of it is down to different staff/hospital policies/litigation/medical culture as well as actual physical need for the woman and children. I got told by my ex-OB that breech twin birth was totally unheard of and out of the question and no one would do it, then I met my current OB who is more up on the research and she was totally happy with offering me a trial of labour. Of course, there are often VERY good reasons for having a section...it's just good to know what the options are and why.

Right, am off to download OBEM, can't wait. Having better day today and my Mum's coming tonight so I'm feeling very very positive.

DreamingOfPeace · 16/02/2012 21:56

bigboobs hooray for a good scan! if the CS was because they're mcda I thought there was a small risk of acute TTTS with a vb but according to one of the TAMBA threads (think its called 'decisions about birth' Or something- I've been reading all info on twin births possible!-did you join TAMBA?) its actually a very low risk. So some consultants are totally happy with mcda vb but some lean more to CS. Maybe. I'm tired with shaky memory today! Definitely read something on it on TAMBA website though.

rednellie, these children... The half second changes of temper I'm finding hard to deal with too in these whale-stages for me! Sure it'll pass, and anyway your mum will be helping now. Yay! I can't believe dd was up 3-5am again... She had done so well and slept through for a week, but just as I was daring hope the phase had passed... I don't know if seeing a mw would help me. I know why all the decisions around my first birth were made- I insisted on waiting 30 hours minimum to see if I'd go into labour, they said my cervix was hard, posterior and closed so 'unfavourable' even after that but wanted the drip straight up. I persuaded them to let me try a prostaglandin pessary for 6 hours first to try and get my cervix more favourable for induction (did bog all but make me contract irregularly every 3-10 min for hours but i tried) then went to full synto drip etc. I didn't give birth on my back, I insisted on minimal epidural and remained able to walk throughout (anaesthetist impressed!) I just coped badly and tore badly and healed slowly and had nightmares about it for months!!

goingmad, hope you're feeling a bit better about things today.

Not dared watch OBEM yet. Too tired and ill today.

goingmadtrying · 16/02/2012 22:15

bigboobs was told that type of birth would be dependant on positions etc but definitely no vb discounted at this stage, infact not even mentioned the cs word!!

dream thank you a little better :)

i have mw tomorrow so hoping she can reassure me a little

sorry for quick post im off to bed x

buonasera · 17/02/2012 08:08

Dreaming, OBEM's probably fine, hers was more straightforward than most of the singleton births!

I'm 27 weeks, going in for growth scan next week so hopefully will get some chat then about birth options. I've said before that I'd favour CS unless they can give me some very good reasons for VB - I don't care about recovery times etc, only issue is avoiding something catastrophic (after a history of recurrent MC, still expecting disaster, despite the problem being identified and fixed...). So I'm slightly hoping that twin 1 will be feet down next Tue... she was head down at 21 weeks (twin 2 was breech) but the buggers turn somersaults on a daily basis so who knows where they are now...

goingmadtrying · 17/02/2012 13:18

hi everyone :)

hope your all doing ok? how's the babies mummylin hope you manage to get over on Sunday

bigboobs hope your feeling ok today, silly consultant for causing you concern, hopefully your normal consultant maybe able to explain why they are thinking differently Hmm

dream how are you doing is dd sleeping any better? did you manage to watch obem?

rednellie hope you having a lovely time with your mum and enjoyed watching obem :)

had my mw appointment this morning she was lovely and listened to all my concerns, she was a little Shock that consultant had been so negative and said it was no wonder i was worrying, she measured my tummy just to show that things were moving along and i measure 20cm already she also very kindly listened to the babies hb which were easy to find :) the first one was 145-150 and the other was slightly slower, feel a bit better than i did :)

for those who know what their having how does those hb sound in comparison to yours?? cant wait to find out what they are :)

DreamingOfPeace · 17/02/2012 14:20

urgh. DD up 1:30 til 4:45 am... I am beyond exhausted. She's caught our man-flu. And has 2 grotty eyes.

Started OBEM but I don't know why- I should be in bed. This is the one weekend we have plans- I have 2 friends coming to stay. I should be looking forward to it but I'm so tired I'm dreading it.

Hope claire and mummylins sisters babies are all doing ok.

buonasera, I wish my twin 1 was head down! They were at 20 weeks, then the other was at 24, then both blooming head dpwn at 28 weeks!!! Should have been rednellie's babies or someone half capable Wink

I have not got enough energy to write any more. I'm off for a lie down!!

rednellie · 17/02/2012 14:48

goingmad - my two boys have hovered between 130 -150 bpm ever since we started listening to them. I 'think' anything between 120 - 180 is normal? But I'm not totally sure. I remember last time my mw changing her mind what sex my DD was each time she listened to the heart beat...Really glad you had a nice reassuring appointment and that you're measuring well, you're doing great and you'll get to see them soon!

I saw my new OB yesterday - man she's so lovely and so COOL. Anyway, twins are same position - baby B is head down and almost lower, but A's still got his rather large feet in the way. So...nutter than my OB is she's booked me in for an version...she's been doing more research and says it's not unusual for twins and there is precedence, also Twin A is so almost out of the way, it's almost like they just need to lift his bum up and he'd move. I am starting to feel a bit like I'm moving into the hinterland of twin pregnancy care, but she is also so matter of fact I know she wouldn't blink an eye at just whipping them out if they needed to be. She measured my bump and I'm now 48 weeks - how did I go from 41 weeks to 48 weeks in 3 days? Grin Think one of the boys had his elbow sticking up which didn't help.

Haven't watched OBEM yet - was picking Mum up from the airport, so I'm going to watch it with her tonight. She's never seen it, I'm pretty sure she may get as addicted as me!

(PS dream a) you're not a whimp, silly billy and b) hope you get some rest and have a lovely time with your mates)

bigboobsatlast · 17/02/2012 20:26

Ok, this is the third time I have written this bloody message! Don't know whats going on with m/net!
Thank you very much for all your replies re c-section. I definitely was told by Doc at the first time I saw him that 'c-section at 36 weeks' and there wasn't really any other option given - he said that there c-section reduced the risks and I could push for (excuse the pun) a vb but he would advise against it. So I have assumed that the choice was out of my hands and I have not given it another thought... but now it seems that there may well be options so I will have to have a think and look a few things up... it may not as clear cut as I thought. I will speak to doc about it in a couple of weeks anyway and let you know!

Rednellie, so glad a change in doc is having such a positive effect on how things are progressing for you. And has your mum arrived now? I hope she is spoiling you. And yes, our DDs are the same age - so much fun but quite a challenge sometimes as well!

Goingmad, glad you had a good mw appt. When my mw first listened to babies heart beats she said it sounded like I was having one of each .. I then reminded her that they were identical! Their heart beats are also a bit different though. At my scan yesterday I asked the doc if they still looked like boys (you never know!) and he said 'oh yes' and then printed me off a piccy that clearly shows testicles and willy! Still only me, DH and my Mum know though - it will be a surprise for everyone else. Are you going to find out what you are having?

Dream, have a good weekend with your friends and let them help you out round the house and with DD. Sleep will get better - it has to ! (thats what I keep telling myself!). I felt sick all day today coz I was so tired after being up half the night with DD.

Claire and Mummylin, how are the babes doing? getting bigger and thriving I hope. Look forward to reading an update from you both.

Not watched OBEM yet but DH is out tonight so planning on watching it after 'enders!

Hello to everyone I have missed :-)

I finished work today - thank F*@k! I could not have done any longer - and I am only 26 weeks - ridiculous! I am mostly looking forward to Wednesday when I get to stay at home and DH will be at work and DD will be at nursery. Is that bad?!

Have a good weekend everyone

goingmadtrying · 17/02/2012 20:45

hi rednellie thanks yes we will.be finding out im hoping for pink but hb seem to indicate blue!!!

yay bigboobs for finishing work im definitely on countdown!! i wonder why your consultant pointed you that way, i was speaking to one of the mw at the hospital and she was all for a vb so definitely explore your options, what are your boys hb??
