claire, that sounds thoroughly frustrating. What a numpty the sonographer was! I've heard of not wearing nail polish for operations (so they can check you nail bed for oxygen levels), but a BRAZILLIAN?!? Are they serious? OK, maybe shave of the top bit, but the whole lot? Why? Are they just being mean? (Can you tell I've never had one? Grin)

Anyway, you're not deluded to keep wanting T1 to turn, and they might, you never know, but at least you're all booked in and know a bit more than before. I hate waiting round in hospitals though so I feel your pain.

BB3, thanks for all your lovely posts, I'll be thinking about that image of your two hand in hand for a while. I had my friend over this morning who is one half or identical sisters and she has such an amazing relationship with her twin. It really is something special...

Right, off to swimming and then growth scan this pm. I'm quite excited...

DreamingOfPeace · 23/01/2012 20:22

Evening all,

I have had a long, loooong day with a grizzly, clingy, grotty DD after a long night with her and 6am start. Gutted- recently after bad nights she's been sleeping in til 8:30am. I took her to the GP so now she has an inhaler to use before bed to see if it helps the night coughing. I am currently on the Bedtime Battle, GROAN , actually back to the standing up, crying, shaking cot barrier etc exactly as it was before all the Landing Vigil Effort and improvement (plus she had a really early nap so not that problem either).

So here I am, back on the sodding landing going 'shush shush shush' and mumsnetting. And what have I messed up? Her inhaler. Read the instructions way, way too late, and washed the spacer quickly, but it has to be dry otherwise the inhaler stuff will obviously just stick to it and not get into the baby. I did put it on a muslin on the radiator, but it wasn't happening... Plus she's got a rash all over her torso and back and arms- I'm hoping it's just viral and won't turn into chicken pox...

Tomorrow morning I'm meant to be taking DD to a twins group at a children's centre- typically the one least convenient for me, but its only every two weeks and its the only one round here, and I rang up and asked if it would be ok to come and pick some twin mummies brains on how to lift 2, how they positioned them for feeding, etc- the practical things it might be useful to have someone in front of you for, and she said she'd check the 'good' mums to talk to would be coming and she'd ring me if not- so please don't let this rash look worse or pox-y in the morning and please let DD be chirpier!!!!! (and for gods sake go to sleep baby!!!)

So enough of the self-absorbed rambling...

claire, sounds rubbish about the hospital- they can take an astoundingly long time to achieve not much. I've never heard of or been warned you have to have a brazilian for a CS, or heard of the laxitive- can't be crucial, after all, you couldn't do any of that before an EMCS... Wonder if BB3 or quempin or raven who had planned c-sections can shed any light on 'normal' policy here? Still, they're both ok, you're booked in and it's done, thats the main thing! Fancy some head down stairs gymnastics type turning ploys like renellie?!

how was your scan today rednellie? Hope they're both growing well, looking forward to hearing what positions they're in now.

bigboobs, I haven't got any liners or anything yet. I do have fairly minging cosytoes that were sent with the ABC everest (think/hope they just need a good wash) but don't want the babies sweating and over-heating in summer. The sheepskin or lambswool liners I've looked at vary but are around £40. So fine for one, but £80 for two!!! Plus can't decide which is best, whether it's worth spending a bit more etc. They'd probably carry on using them for the whole time they're in buggies- meant to stop them sweating sat on the artificial material of pushchairs in summer, but what's worth spending and what's excessive and un-necessary?! The biggest worry with the movement for me is that it varies a lot- like you, I mostly get movement on the right, and my last scan the baby on my left was breech. But I do vary a lot in how much I feel on the left, from some quite big kicks and wriggles some days, not miles less than the movements on the right, to nothing, or virtually nothing which can go on for ages until I'm tormenting myself with terrible images...

I'm so looking forward to them being safely here, I think it's the feeling of being so lucky to be a twin-mummy-to-be that I keep thinking something will go wrong.

Hello lilyni, hope your scan goes well tomorrow- will you tell us if you find out the sexes?! I tried to put you on the stats list...
And good luck for the other two scanees for tomorrow!

(sorry, essay length, but what else is there to do on a landing?! Wink )

BB3 · 23/01/2012 20:56

Dream - crikey you're doing so well, poor dd, I hope the inhaler works tomorrow for you. Has dd settled at all? Fingers crossed. We were back at the drs today too - ds' infection has now gone into the other lung he's back on antibiotics but if he's not clear in two days he has to be admitted to hospital again Sad

Claire - brazilian? Ah no - they shave you a few cms down (before surgery if you havent done it yourself) so they can get a clean cut. No metal, no jewellery, no make up, hair spray, nail polish or chemicals of any kind and and you take a tablet to remove your stomach acid on the morning of surgery (but they dont seem to care a huge amount about much if it for emergency cs, I didn't have the acid tablet). No laxatives at all, can't understand why when there is no pushing in that area Wink. Still you're all done and ready to go and babies only have to stay put for two more days! I personally wouldn't go anywhere near a waxer whilst pg (pain is massively intensified because of the hormones) I just blindly neatened it all up with a bit of help from dh so there was a clear area under the panty line.

Rednellie how did this afternoon go?

Linyl, hope 20 week scan goes ok.

I'm looking for a second buggy for travelling abroad with the girls and for using in the uk with ds and dn and I'm trying to choose between the mountain duet and the out and about nipper - I can't remember who on here has tried what but any thoughts? I'd really like something for less than £500 but I don't want a stroller type thing ideally as the girls are still quite young.

DreamingOfPeace · 23/01/2012 21:14

Oh I'm so sorry BB3, ignore me complaining over nothing when your poor DS is a million times worse. DD just has some virus, not a nasty bacterial chest infection. I hope hope hope his antibiotics work and he doesn't have to be readmitted.

The bestbuggy website claire recommended is really good. rednellie has just got the Duet and loves it, but there's a thread on here I read today slating it- the mum has put pics of the problems up- like sun getting in her sons eyes when reclined through a gap in the back which is just how the sunhoods are etc etc. I think it looks great, the Nipper gets great reviews too, and I've heard good things about the baby jogger city mini double (which I've bought) but obviously I've never used it (I have and love the single though). Folds like a dream- it fits in our smallish cloakroom cupboard now which may be good for travel?! Definitely golds smaller than the Nipper, we looked at one in our local baby shop. Or oes the BJCM count as a stroller?! I hope not, as it's what I'm hoping to use this summer with mine to get them to sleep in it, huge sunhood assisted, and take DD to the playground etc

DreamingOfPeace · 23/01/2012 21:24

oh CRAP!!! it's my wedding anniversary today, DH just got home from work and said Happy Anniversary and may have card or present or both (surely not both, he's generally hopeless?!)

eeeeeek!

rednellie · 24/01/2012 03:20

Stupid boys have only gone back to being bloody breach. I'm actually (completely irrationally) pissed off with them! I know, I know, I should be grateful, but DD's birth was so amazing I feel like I'll grieve if I don't get the chance to go for a VB. That might sound completely insane to some of you, and I am only talking of my own experience, but honestly her birth was the best thing I've ever done, it's like a drug that I want to try again, I might not get another chance. Oh, I hope they turn so at least I can give it a go...

On the plus side, they're measuring on the 50 centile for singletons for their gestational age!!!!! Which means I'm carrying two 'normal' sized singleton babies in one body. Sonographer kept asking how tall me and DH are. They're going to be giants...

rednellie · 24/01/2012 03:45

Btw, re: the duet. dream, that thread is a bit out of date - I read it too and lots of those features have been adjusted now on the duets coming out. I think that lady gets them early to do reviews for the bestbuggy website. There is no hole that lets sun in etc...

Pros:
-moves like a dream, easy to use one handed even with heavy toddlers in it
-slimmest side by side on the market, you go toward doors convinced you'll come a cropper and then sale on through...
-very simple construction so no fiddly bits to break, I feel confident I could fix most things on it.
-can be used from birth, even without carry cots (apparently several other brands are compatible - i.e. the P&T and Bugaboo Bee cocoons, but check that!)
-great sun hood, with extendable bit
-decent bag underneath
-folds in one motion, and it fits into relatively small car boots - we've got a stupid saloon car and it seems to take up as much space as DD's old single pushchair!
-not that heavy, again, DD's single pushchair only feeds a tad lighter
-fits two car seats on the frame (you have to buy adapters separately)
-compatible with a scooter that can attach as a buggy board, or be used as a toddler scooter (the Freerider, again, has to be bought separately as is the way of these things...)
-fits on buses (even in London, so I've been told)

Cons:
-expensive and brand new so no second hand deals, yet
-can't face the kids towards me, which I really loved for DD
-slightly annoying to put the break on, but not that bad
-when you put the seats upright from flat there's excess material which you have to sort of push back behind the seat
-my DD hates the storm cover, but then she hates any kind of rain cover so am not sure that's something against the duet per se! She gets her claustrophobia from me...

That's my summation so far, I'm sure I'll find things that'll annoy me/please me as we use it more with the two new babies. Hope that's helpful BB3, and also hope little DS gets better soon, really don't want you to have to go back to hospital. xxx

DreamingOfPeace · 24/01/2012 04:43

I'd still get one rednellie, love how narrow the Duet is, and even when pg with dd I had a hankering for a mountain buggy... Before I knew it was twins was looking at their new 'plus one'. I'm convinced! Maybe when twins bigger n there's some second hand. BJCM double folds one handed and has great sunhoods and is a decent side by side but much wider at 76cm. Think the monster buggy is 74cm!!

Oh those boys of yours!! Turn round rednellies twin one and stop giving your mother grief plenty of time for that . I really hope he does... Mine were both over 50th centile for singletons last time, will see what they're doing now on Thursday. Good for us growing baby elephants :-)

Bit of 4am mn-ing for me, dd up every 1-2 hours tonight. Think I've overdosed on gaviscon already n still suffering plus oh, the rib pain!! Stopping me sleeping between her wakenings. bb3, hoping Karahan feeling ok, sending him get well soon wishes

claireinmodena · 24/01/2012 08:50

bb3 Sad about your ds, I truly hope the antibiotics work and he doesn't need to be admitted again, poor little soul!lilyni

Hello Lilyini good luck with scan today!

BB3 I have also been given a tablet for the stomach but I have two for the night before and the morning, I think the laxatives are in case a more "aggressive" surgery is needed, i was always given them for my 2 GA surgeries in the past.

I don't have have wax, I can also use cream, but it is the "whole area" though, as if I could reach down there, think I will need dh's involement on this one Blush, bet he won't be pleased Grin.

Dream so sorry your dd is playing up again and not feeling well, you must be shattered. Just what you need in pregnancy!

rednellie I am soooo with you on the cs front! My first delivery was fine, but the second I just loved, and the moment I pushed dd2 out I couldn't stop thinking "I have to do this again", so I completely understand and feel totally cheated of my last birth experience... (I know FOR SURE there aint gonna be no more babies around here!!).

add to that the idea of being cut open (again! even if for different reasons). I wanted nothing to do anymore with drips, catheters, scars, etc etc,

but you still have some time (how many weeks are you?)

Have been reading the spinning babies website? I am going to try the frozen pack thing this week, haven't done it before as wasnt sure where t1's head was, but now I know I might just try it... you never know.

At the end though the babies' health is what matters and I am sure we'll forget all about it as soon as it stops hurting.Besides I suppose I should consider myself lucky to have had two good births as you hear so many horror stories and people being truly traumatised by the whole process, that I really shouldn't moan (but I still do Grin

This morning a lovely friend of mine is taking me shopping for last minute baby things, she also has twins, so I'm really looking forward to that.

Take care everyone!

claireinmodena · 24/01/2012 08:54

ps

good news about babie's weights though rednellie!! HOw many weeks are you now?

BB3 · 24/01/2012 09:17

Morning,

Dream how's dd? Having a poorly child no matter how serious is awful (and dd has had a tough time of it) bit the one thing that makes ds' easier is that he sleeps (a lot) so I don't know how you're coping with it all on so little sleep. On the slight plus side when dd is better and sleeping through and the twins arrive, them waking every three hours will be easy in comparison!

Claire / rednellie I too was traumatised at not having natural birth, not because I enjoyed ds' but I felt like cs was cheating, and not as good for the babies etc, in the end I think my fear of it made it seem do much better when it actually happened as my expectations were so awful, the reality was much better! Fingers crossed they turn for you though but don't be too disheartened by it, once your babies are here, you won't mind which way they came.

Thanks for advice on buggies think the one thing putting me off the out and about Is the fold down mechanism and size - we have the single running buggy here for ds and it's gigantic folded down (bigger than the donkey!). I'll pop into jl and have a look again and see.

Ds has woken up much better, his cough is horrendous but he has more colour and life in him, fingers crossed it lasts xxx

goingmadtrying · 24/01/2012 12:40

hello ladies :)

no time to have a proper catch up but hope your dc's are better today dream and bb3 its awful when there poorly :(

I've been for my scan today all good babies were moving so much and waving!!! they are 60mm now so have almost doubled in 2 weeks, they are feet to feet at the mo. they said i look like i have a small fibroid which could explain the bleeding??? though they no concerned and will check it again next time. my mil loved it and was amazed by how baby like they are and so developed :) was her birthday so she really enjoyed it,

just off for lunch with a friend, have a good day Grin

DreamingOfPeace · 24/01/2012 14:11

Fantastic scan news goingmad!! Hooray! Glad your MIL liked it too, they grow so fast its astonishing.

bb3, glad ds is slightly better, at least coughing it up a bit... Fingers crossed he keeps improving. I agree that choosing (I know you had no option) CS seems like cheating, and the easy way out in lots of ways. Date planned, not exhausted from a long labour when babies arrive etc etc despite the recovery... And risks of breathing problems with the babies etc are higher with CS. The whole birth decision scares me.

My dd is ok, just coughing a bit and off colour but I'm sooo tired- up every hour or two til 3am, then up with her til 6am-once calpoled and seemed ok again she was just wide awake and wouldn't lie quietly anywhere and howled and screamed if left, then finally went to sleep for a couple of hours in bed with me. And now she won't go down for a nap (which I'm desperate for!) so I'm on the landing again... She's torturing me with the sleep deprivation!! I don't dare hope the twins will sleep 3 hours at a time, certainly not the same time- dd never did...

Claire, my dh would (will!) be horrified if roped into lady-gardening, but needs must! I must look at this website, good luck getting him to turn! I do think it'll seem less important once its all over and the babies are here and you're recovered from whichever birth. Not that that helps in the slightest in the buildup to it...

Lilyni · 24/01/2012 14:58

Hello again.....

goingmad - glad everything went well at your scan - great news!!!!

rednellie - hope your little ones turn for you .... glad they are doing so well, great that they are the weight of singletons

dreaming - cant imagine how tired you must be - hope your dd settles soon for you and you can get some rest

bb3 - hope your ds gets better soon

my scan went really well today thankfully - had been so worried something would be wrong. both babies are doing well and the scan was very clear. looks like we may be having some pink in our house - both look like little girls. Will take a bit of getting used to after 3ds!!!!!!

goingmadtrying · 24/01/2012 15:20

wow congrats lilyni pink would be fab :) good to hear your scan went well to, how many weeks are you? :)

skitoo · 24/01/2012 15:52

Hello all, do you have room for one more please, well 3 really Grin.

I'm 24 weeks now and am braving it over here after meeting a few of you briefly on the pregnancy thread. It's been a bit of a rollercoaster getting here after some losses and finally a successful ivf treatment, which was most unexpected - it shouldn't have been a shock to see 2 in there but it really was!!

Have had a very quick skim through the thread and looks like there's been lots of lovely new arrival news, congrats Smile, and lots of others at various stages.

Looking forward to catching up with you all and hopefully some hand holding as we mental our way through (hope I'm not the only mental one!)

DreamingOfPeace · 24/01/2012 15:52

Oh congratulations lilyni! Two little girls, how wonderful. Girls are lovely (although people keep telling me boys are easier-we'll see!). Such a relief when the 20 week scan is ok, it felt like a big hurdle out of the way to me :-)

DreamingOfPeace · 24/01/2012 16:00

Oh skitoo, I'm your hand-holder for full scale mentalling!!!! Wink We're so close too, I'm 28 weeks on Thursday so only 3 weeks difference. Worrying already about Thursdays growth scan. Congratulations again on your twins, it seems a hard road to get there through the pregnancy, not to mention the worries, but it'll all be worth it! And its nice on here, the worries do seem fairly universal so there's lots of handholding and reassurance about. Do you know whether you're expecting boys or girls or one of each? Did you say on the other thread they're DCDA or am i wrong? (Distinctly not firing on all cylinders today, yawn)

rednellie · 24/01/2012 19:21

lilyni and goingmad - great news about the scans. Glad everything is progressing well. goingmad, what a lovely birthday present for the MIL - it is amazing for other people to be involved in the process. I'm always surprised by how fascinated people are by the scans because there are two of them. Although with my two now all they look like are squidged up bits of limbs, the sonographer keeps telling me what I'm looking at and I just nod and grin!

skitoo - welcome! Lovely to have another twin mum with us. I never though I'd feel such solidarity with a group of people on a forum, but this thread has been amazing.

I'm 31 weeks just now, so still time to turn, and I know that it doesn't matter, in the end. Thank you for all your kind words. At least if I do train as a doula (have been thinking about it for a while) I'll have had experience of both sorts of labour!!! Got to look on the positive.

claire, you made me chuckle about getting DH to help with the grooming - I asked mine if he'd help me tidy up the other night. I'm going swimming a lot with DD and have no idea what vision of loveliness I'm exposing all the people at the pool too. He looked confused, mortified and then just laughed. A lot. Not sure how much help he's going to be...

PS dream, did DH give you an anniversary gift? How'd you manage it?

rednellie · 24/01/2012 20:14

claire - I've been doing the inversion thing on the spinning babies site, also tried the sifting or whatever it's called. Unfortunately DH is rubbish at it and just giggles uncontrollably. I'm attempting the chiropractor tomorrow again, if DD lets me....I'll try anything tbh!

DreamingOfPeace · 24/01/2012 21:02

Good luck with getting out of the house without dd and to the chiropractor tomorrow rednellie! Turn baby, turn! Dh brought lovely flowers yesterday. Luckily he let slip that as it is his and one of his colleagues wedding anniversary on the same day as this late meeting where they are never home before 9 and often not before 10 a bunch of the other gp's felt bad and got the flowers for them to give! So even though he swears he was going to get some on the way home anyway I felt less bad.

I'm incredibly tired and want to go to bed but guess who's not asleep?! Last day at work for me tomorrow Smile

rednellie · 24/01/2012 22:47

I've cancelled chiropractor- can't find anyone to babysit Arianwen. Sometimes, living in a foreign country miles away from your family and friends sucks. A lot.

Right, off to have a nap and to attempt to stop feeling sorry for myself. Wink

(dream, can't believe you've managed to keep working, whilst baking twins AND having a poorly DD who's not been sleeping. You're some kind of machine! Props go where props are due.)

rednellie · 25/01/2012 18:56

Where is everyone? Hope you're all ok - you're never normally this quiet...

DreamingOfPeace · 25/01/2012 19:47

It has been spookily quiet today. I've just been busy at work and literally got home and launched straight into the bedtime battle. Claire, those babies better not have arrived before your husband's back?! athough he should be back now, no? And where's everyone else? I'm guessing raven, tabby and quempin are a bit busy...

That's rubbish rednellie, what a shame to miss a second potential chiropractor appointment. did you always want to live in Canada for a bit, or was it a good job offer or transfer for your dh that moved you out there? I'm also curious about this with Claire, especially when she said they might move somewhere different entirely. What do you need to do to have these more exciting lives?!

Isla only went to sleep at 9pm, but also only had me up once for less than an hour so i feel much more rested (if still blooming tired)! Though sleeping is getting harder and harder with the rib pain (and heartburn). I dread to think how bad it'll be by the end. Definitely worse on the left so maybe he's still breach? Could well be a head under there. Will see on my growth scan tomorrow, which of course I'm not at all worried about....

What do your boys think about baby sisters lilyni ? Or are you waiting to tell people?

Dd loves being put in the top seat of our triple buggy which seems to live in totally blocking the hallway. she's on eye level with me and will have a great view so I'm even cheering up about such a huge buggy! (But go to sleep child, go to sleep...)

claireinmodena · 25/01/2012 20:41

Hello I'm still here!

I am making the most of my freedom while it lasts. Took dds to school and later one the teacher told me dd2 went up to her to let her know that I'd dropped them off. Poor little soul, they've been ever so good, but I'm sure they need gheir mum back in full form and a normal life again. Only it's going to get worse before it gets better...guiltguiltguilt

rednellie so sorry you couldnt go to the chiropractor. I know what it means living abroad and far from family. (by the way dream we went to the uk to have a year abroad and it turned into 10 years, 2 children, buying a house, Grin...then he was offered a good job back in italy and here we are...)

I had my hair cut today, it was desperately needed! I figured it could be my last chance in ages!

I have felt better though, I think my muscles need to get used to all the extra weight all in one go instead of doing it slowly over a few months! I cant believe how much I am eating at the moment, despite having heartburn and bad digestion! I do hope these babies come sooner or I'll be the size if a warehouse!!

dream I dont know what yo say to you, its so awful not being able to sleep. You have my sympathy. Biscuit
