Congrats enraha and wowwa Grin

So exciting!

TheWicketKeeperIsDown · 01/02/2012 10:10

Congratulations to the new mummies! Lovely news!

I'm really uncomfortable now, but just hoping the Wee Yin stays in place long enough for me to get organised... Off to the midwife in half an hour to see if it's lying any more normally (ultrasound if there's any doubt, apparently).

Xavielli · 01/02/2012 10:17

Congrats woowa!!

littlemonkeybix · 01/02/2012 10:21

Aww congratulations woowa

I can't believe just how many boys we have!! I'm wondering now how many of the babies already popped were known... and how many were surprises.

TMI alert

Today I had quite the lower abdomen pain... I thought poopains (sorry!) then toilet stop did not help... and I got a little bit fearful!

Anyway, pip did some punching and dislodged some trapped wind and a little more of the goods (ahem!) and pains subsided. I still felt a bit squiffy for a good few minutes... so am hoping it was just a one off, and not a) that bloody bug b) labour pains starting off.... I'm only at 35+2 and still in chuffing work!!

Car is home, all fixed up.... so that is a piece of good news to share... and tester pots on the wall in our bedroom... painting extravaganza to start imminently! I WILL have a bedroom and nursery before pip arrives... I WILL

deardear · 01/02/2012 10:31

congrats woowa and enraha. there are alot of boys on teh bus and mine will be one of them as well when he arrives. they must have put something in the water!

monkey that sounds just like me. I had amazing wind yesterday and had to keep scraping my foot on the floor in the pub where i work to make it sound like it was that lol.

have a quiet baby this morning. slept really well last night. got to sleep quick and only got up at 130 and 530 for a pee. was a bit worried when i woke up as baby didnt wake up for a bit which is unusual. he has been moving since so just a lazy day i think.

the pains in my very lower abdomen are getting worse and worse as i go on. DH was quite wrried last night as i was yelping in pain while sat talking to him in the kitchen. no MW appt this week as there is no clinic due to a change over in MWs but have one on Tuesday so will be interesting to see how much he has dropped. Was 3/5ths last week.

Think i have nearly decided i will finish at the pub next week :( i dont want to but its half term the week after and then i am due the week after that and really dont want to put landlady in the posiiton where i am pulling a pint and my waters go! It will empty the pub pretty quick although its full of farmers lol

PDog · 01/02/2012 10:43

Congratulations enraha, looking forward to hearing all the gory details when you get chance.

Congratulations woowa. Sounds like a positive experience and you didn't need to wait to be induced. Hope my labour goes th same way.

I've been awake since 3.30am so am shattered. Just chilling on sofa but really must pack my hospital bag - all these early arrivals and possible contractions are making me nervous.

Saw consultant yesterday. All fine, she thought baby might be breech so sent me for a scan. Bubs is head down as I thought but it was nice to get another glimpse and DD with me so she got to see for first time. Sonographer said feels like head is well down and towards the back so it was probably shoulders the doc could feel rather than bum.

Bad news is she said I would need cfm. I am still a bit Confused as to why but planning to stay at home as long as possible and then argue when I get to hospital. She recommended a managed third stage but said I could ask to wait a few minutes before cutting cord, providing baby is ok.

I'm hoping bubs stays put for awhile yet but wishing contractions for those t want them.

37+1 - full term yeah!

madeindevon2 · 01/02/2012 12:06

pdog
why did they say they wanted you to have cfm? my MW said they woudl try get me to have cfm but im really not wanting that....

hermionejgranger · 01/02/2012 12:43

Lovely news Woowa - congratulations - and what a fantastic name! Doubt there will be another in the same class :) So pleased you didn't have to be induced and I'm also very heartened to hear that the TENS worked so well for you.

I'm currently trying very hard not to scratch the nasty rash on my tum - Dr Google of Images suggests it may well be PUPPP - rang MW yesterday and she said to book an appointment with GP - have one tomorrow so will see if I can get some antihistamine or topical aqueous menthol to alleviate the itching. Hands and feet a bit swollen today as well so am largely vegetating on the sofa! Ooooh time for lunch now, though!

EsmeWeatherwax · 01/02/2012 12:54

Congratulations Woowa another boy on the bus! Glad you had such a lovely experience.

Congrats to ou too Enraha hope you're home and happy!

I've never actually announced this on the bus, only the fb page, but I had my son, Alexander Thomas Iain, on Monday 23rd Jan, he weighed 7lbs 14oz, was born by elcs, and we're all fine and home safe and sound!

phlossie · 01/02/2012 13:21

Congratulations, woowa. SO pleased that it went so well after all the scans and worry. And I'm glad you found your lovely Biblical name - it's fab! xx

Lots of boys!

ZhenThereWereTwo · 01/02/2012 15:07

Congratulations Woowa Thanks

Pdog and MadeinDevon you do not need to consent to cfm if you do not want it. I am going for VBAC this time, hospital policy is to cfm, but I am refusing. You have to consent to any treatment, so if you don't want it don't let them railroad you. Write in your birth plan that you do not consent, if they go against your wishes it is then assault!

You can always change your mind at any point if you are worried about baby during labour, but you will find it harder to argue to take it off once it is already on. There is research to say that cfm is no more effective than doppler at preventing deaths of babies, see this Cochrane study, but it is associated with increase in interventions and caesarian sections.

madeindevon2 · 01/02/2012 16:06

Thanks zhen. Yes I've read this. Also going for a vbac and also hospital policy for cfm. I'm just unsure what to do. Fetal distress was just one of the reasons I had a cs before and as much as I don't want cfm I worry.... It's such tough call isn't it.

PDog · 01/02/2012 16:51

Thanks zhen. Not sure what to do yet as don't want to put baby at risk so will have a look at the link.

Devon - she couldn't really tell me other than I am classed as 'high risk' and it is hospital policy to monitor in these circumstances. I have a blood disorder than puts me at a higher risk of developing blood clots. This does not affect the baby so I don't really understand the need for monitoring. I had an uneventul pregnancy and labour with my first but I was monitored in labour. I wasn't told about this beforehand so just went along with the advice at the time. I ended up giving birth in stirrups on my back, which was very different from the active birth I wanted. Really hoping to avoid that this time.

ZhenThereWereTwo · 01/02/2012 17:48

Fetal distress can also be picked up by a doppler, they should be using it every 15 minutes through a contraction in the first stage and every 5 minutes in the second.

I am refusing as I want my midwife to be focused on me and baby, not a print out and also last time I had cfm, they didn't even notice my DD's heart rate had decelerated (MIL did) and they kept leaving the room and coming in just to check print out.

Also babies heart rate more likely to decelerate if lying on back due to poor blood supply and invariably monitor does not work properly in any other position as when you move they lose the trace.

Xavielli · 01/02/2012 18:47

I had to have cfm because of the OC, I was up walking around the room and bouncing on a ball with it on so no need to be strapped to a bed. After a while I was moving so much that they put a little clip on babies head.

ZhenThereWereTwo · 01/02/2012 18:58

Glad you managed to have a belt and line on your cfm that allowed so much movement Xavelli. They also sometimes have telemetry cfm now, which is wireless that might be an option at your hospital, so worth asking (they do at mine, but it tends to go missing!)

Mine kept slipping and line was quite short so it was ball or bed and in the end just bed as the trace was not consistent enough.

I would consent if baby's heart decelerated on doppler, but not if there are no concerns as last time DD was fine before cfm, but heart rate dropped during pushing on my back, as being on back had got her head into a bad position.

QueenFee · 01/02/2012 19:20

I had the clip on babys head too as we kept losing the trace. We also now have waterproof monitors so you still have a water birth.

I am hoping not to have cfm this time though.

CoffeeOne · 01/02/2012 19:20

Congratulations Enraha and Woowa! Wonderful news!!

PamBeesly · 01/02/2012 19:31

Congratulations woowa Thanks

woowa · 01/02/2012 21:25

Thank you all! i'm glad you realised he was a boy because i didn't actually say it!! i've now said to three people, "no, not Raphael..." Entirely our fault fir choosing a v unusual name!

On CFM. i was told it was a possibility, on being admitted, told it was compulsory. Was quite upset but in no mood to demand my rights. It was a bit annoying as it kept slipping (i either perched on bed edge or walked about for whole time), but in the end it was concentrating on keeping it picking up heart beat, listening to the heartbeat, watching the trace and using the tens which got me through each contraction and the hours in there! nice distracting things to look at and think about. so not all bad!!

just bf-ing the boy. so fun!

x

phlossie · 01/02/2012 22:19

I had a telemetry cfm, which was amazing. I kept active throughout. Did get a bit annoyed at everyone looking at the print out.

Lovely to hear from you, woowa. It makes me so look forward to meeting my little person!

xx

QueenFee · 01/02/2012 23:23

Glad I was right in my assumption! Whoops that could have been embarrasing! Where is his name in the bible? (you did say it was biblical didnt you?) I love biblical names. And aww to the newborn bfing snuggles.

I am sort of secretly hoping that all the boys on the bus so far mean I am having a girl. I don't really mind but I know dd and mil really want a girl.

hermionejgranger · 02/02/2012 04:21

Yy fee... i think I'm secretly hoping for a girl too although i think that Bert is a boy... Feeling guilty much already in case of disappointment at birth? :-(

FundusCrispyPancake · 02/02/2012 09:24

Congratulation enreha, woowa and esme (I am not on FB) Thanks

A girl would be lovely, my family and DH's are full of boys so it would be nice to even things up a bit! However, people keep telling me I am having a boy because I am all 'out the front' Hmm.

Yesterday evening it felt like baby pancake was trying to chew his/her way out of my cervix! DH was looking really worried at my squeals but then I had a peaceful night and nothing more today so far. Does anyone know if it means anything? I saw the midwife yesterday and she said I was unlikely to pop before my due date (20th).
