Hello, my name is Becky and I have just got my BFP after TTC for 5 months with 1 MMC a month ago.

I noticed that no-one had started a August 2012 antenatal club so thought I might start one here. Welcome to all!

Here are my stats;

Harmonyb23 (23) Due date 19/08/12 DC#3

Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong, I've never started a thread before!

Has everyone had the dates for their scans now? I'm 11+4 and still haven't heard anything. I don't think it's that time sensitive as no NT scan here, but they do all your booking in bloods at the same time. Do they need to be done by a certain time?

I just want to make sure everything's ok, be able to tell people and make sure it's not twins! 3 under 2 would be too much for me!!

missduff · 26/01/2012 16:51

Lig I think a lot of people want twins and if I did find 2 blobs after the initial shock I think I would be happy.
For me it's just the childcare side of things that would worry me the most, 2 kids in nursery would be my whole wage so I've no idea how we would manage financially but I suppose you just manage and find a way.
Still praying for just one blob tho Smile

missduff · 26/01/2012 17:00

chocchip I've had my scan date. Is it just the booking in bloods they are doing? I don't think they are time sensitive as that's to check things like blood group, iron count, HIV etc but I think the bloods that they do for down syndrome are.
In my last pg they did booking in bloods at the scan and then tests for down syndrome at 16 weeks. But this time it has changed, they did bloods at booking in last week and then they'll do down syndrome bloods at NT scan at 12 weeks.
So basically it depends what bloods they are doing but I don't think it should be time sensitive

Chocchip88 · 26/01/2012 17:06

Thanks missduff I have an appointment with my midwife at 16 weeks for the quadruple test for Down's so the others should be fine. I'm do excited every day when the post arrived (saddo!) but the appointment letter is never there! Maybe tomorrow.
Hope everyone is feeling well x

Chocchip88 · 26/01/2012 18:48

I think talking about the wait made me more anxious....Just booked a private scan for Saturday! I bet the nhs scan letter will come tomorrow with a Monday appointment! Ha!

ruskiewicz · 29/01/2012 10:10

Am only 10+2 and saw midwife last week, will probably be a bit before scan date comes. Got to go to the hospital for bloods on Tuesday as she couldn't get any from me at booking in appt.
Was a bit blinded by all the info and form filling, not to mention the piles of leaflets etc. Felt slightly freaked out when I read (in some of the literature) that you spend around £3000 on baby stuff at the beginning. Really? That ain't gonna happen - we've got a house move to fund and my current income is a bit erratic (temping).
Having said that, can't wait for 3 month scan to (fingers crossed) go OK. Am already sneakily looking at cute clothes etc. Although I managed to leave the '1000 Baby Names' book on the shelf at the library yesterday... Anyone else struggling to stay sensible?

missduff · 29/01/2012 11:40

Ruskie i didn't spend anywhere near £3000 although you easily could do if you really wanted to.
The main expense is the pram but you don't have to go getting a top of the range one, chances are you'll only use it for about 8 months and then get a cheap light buggy anyway.
I would say get the essentials and remember that if you then decide that you want something then you can go and get it. Pregnant women are very very heavily targeted by advisors and don't believe them when they tell you that you can't live without their gadget.
Eg unless you live in a big house you won't need a baby moniter, never under estimate the power of a newborns cry!

missduff · 29/01/2012 11:40

Sorry that should read 'targeted by advertisers' bloody iPhone

Deafworm · 29/01/2012 13:21

Ruskie you don't need to spend anywhere near that amount, think about your priorities, breast/bottle feeding cloth/disposable nappies pram/sling etc then look around within your budget. eBay is wonderful even for new baby stuff, I'm eyeing up prams on there at the moment. This is dc4 but we've never had a proper pram and I've wanted one since dd1 and it just wasn't something I could afford or wasn't practical with 2 under 2. Take all the lists with a pinch of salt. Buy minimum baby clothes as often friends and family will buy lots out of excitement and if they don't you can always shop online or take a trip out when it becomes an issue!

I sort of fell off last week had a busy week with assignments and conferences and feeling utterly bloody fed up already, still sick and bloated with little appetite most of the time. It's become apparent that all of that is made loads worse if I exert myself one day the next I suffer so I'm spending lots of time sitting around which isn't me and is driving me up the wall. I cant even study effectively because when i am sitting round im trying not to doze off. I've honestly never come anywhere close to this in terms of early symptoms. My scan is on Thursday and I'm almost thinking it better had be twins to make this something that makes sense but at the same time I don't want twins, the thought of 5 under 7 terrifies me and would go down like a lead balloon with family. sorry needed to get that out!

Chocchip was your private scan yesterday? How did it go?

missduff · 29/01/2012 15:38

ruskie just another small point to make - about 50% (if not more) of what baby wears will be baby grows and vests which they will probably never be seen in, other than by you and OH of course.
Therefore don't waste money on buying the really cute boy/girl vests and sleep suits. Yes when they are new born and you will want the nice ones but after that you might as well just get plain white ones which are a fraction of the cost.
It probably took me about 3 months for me to realise that hang on, I'm buying the nice ones and he just wears them to bed, what's the point?

Deafworm · 29/01/2012 16:21

Oh and outfits on newborns are a nightmare, with dd1 we were given a lovely outfit, pretty vest, denim skirt and lovely tights, so one day we decided to wrestle her into it, and dressing a newborn in anything involves wrestling! About 20 minutes after we'd finally succeeded the midwife turned up to weigh her and after then wrestling her out of it again, we decided baby grows we're the way forwards for the foreseeable, mine have all lived in baby grows till 6 months and this one will too, soooo much easier! Rompers are fab in summer too, dd3 is a June birthday and lived in them her first and second summers

Chocchip88 · 29/01/2012 16:30

Yes, had scan yesterday, all was good! Heart beating away, legs kicking and I'm sure it waved at me at one point! They measured me as 12 weeks so due date 11th Aug. Still doesn't seem real!
As for money spent on the baby, last pregnancy I literally couldn't spend anything! I tried but kept freaking out! I think I had bought 2 vests and a mattress for the crib by the time DS was born. We were extremely lucky in that we were given (second hand) a pram, car seat, crib, cot and loads of clothes! All you really need is somewhere for them to sleep, something for them to wear and a way to get around. Everything else you can get as you go along. I think we've had the cheapest baby in the world, although I'm sure he'll make up for it as he gets older! The most we've spent on any item was a sling which we got when he was about 4 months, I did a lot of research and we still use it a couple of times a week now he's 15 months and 28 pounds! So my advice is DON'T PANIC about the money side of things, free cycle is also worth a look.
I think we are going to have a big expense with a double pushchair this time around though!

Deafworm · 29/01/2012 16:49

Glad to hear it went well chocchip, congratulations

ruskiewicz · 30/01/2012 19:22

Thanks all for the advice... had a sneaky look in Next today and thought the white babygros looked fine. I agree re. just needing pram, bed etc. No doubt we'll be bombarded with presents nearer the time too.
Will have to rein myself in - buying stuff is fun. But better to have less stuff and more money to do things like, you know, eat. Only kidding, it's not that bad. But why oh why oh why did I take voluntary severance from my cosy, overpaid job in Manchester Uni when I could have gone for redeployment? Mind you, getting pregnant wasn't in the plan at the time.
Anyway - IKEA have decent furniture and it's not expensive. And I've seen a half-price pram on the Mothercare website that looks good. Am not averse to secondhand either...

Deafworm · 01/02/2012 12:57

How's everyone doing? It's my scan tomorrow and having been to a coffee morning I go to regularly with friends who know there's been lots of joking about twins so I'm now nail biting again!

It's so hard not to get carried away isn't it Ruskie I'm all over excited by this have a couple of doubles to sell first though, pleased to be past them!

LIG1979 · 02/02/2012 13:01

Good luck today Deafworm! Hope it all goes well.

Had my 12 week scan on Monday - it all went well and my due date has been moved to the 8th August. Was quite amazed at how much detail you could see on a 6.3cm thing - could even see that at one point its' legs were crossed. It also moved around loads. So far no news on the NT results but assume it is ok as they haven't phoned me.

Now need to get used to the idea that I could possibly be having a baby - didn't really think much further than getting to 12 weeks and now I feel quite overwhelmed.

PickleSarnie · 02/02/2012 14:34

Congrats on the scan lig and best of luck deafworm!

I've had fairly crap few days so apologies for the whine that's about to follow. Had scan on Thursday which went well although bit too early for nuchal so am going back next Thursday. Then on Saturday morning I had a teeny bit of pink spotting. Tried to convince myself that it was fine and went back to bed for ten minutes whilst obsessively googling. Got p to go to the loo and had huge gush of blood all over the floor. Screamed, cried and screamed a bit more. Dropped DS off with neighbours and went to a&e. They seemed fairly nonplussed even though the bleeding was ally pretty heavy. Tried to find heart beat on Doppler but didn't manage. Although didn't expect them too because quire early and my belly not exactly skinny! So sent me through for another scan and the sonographer thinks the bleeding was probably caused by the prodding on my belly two days earlier at the scan so lightly scanned me enough to find babies heartbeat but didn't want to prod anymore to find where the bleeding was coming from. They stressed it was really common and sent me on my way. Kept bleeding all day and it finally stopped on Sunday morning. Had bath on Sunday night, got out of bath and yet another gush of blood all over floor. No cramping or clots so attempted to be calm. Failed miserably obviously. Anyhow, touch wood, but all seems to have stopped now. Obsessively knicker checking ever since though. Guess I had such an easy pregnancy last time that was probably a bit hopeful expecting it to be so easy this time round.

PickleSarnie · 02/02/2012 14:35

Ps sorry for the lack of paragraphs!

LIG1979 · 02/02/2012 15:39

Oh Pickle sounds very traumatic and sorry you are going through so much stress, but good and reassuring they found a heartbeat!! I think bleeding is fairly common and whilst it could be something sinister, it often is due to a hematoma or something completely unknown. I do know lots of people who have had alot of blood and things have been absolutely fine. But I know how worrying it can be.....

Deafworm · 03/02/2012 07:36

Oh pickle I hope you are feeling ok now and that it's nothing to worry about, I had cramps all afternoon yesterday but fortunately nothing else.

Scan went well, just the one baby, thank goodness! It waved and had a nice strong heartbeat. Theyve moved my date to 25th august which puts me at 3 weeks when i tested so im not convinced, unfortunately its my best friends wedding day so she will be having kittens! My consultant was amazing, she's prescribed aspirin and agreed a homebirth, wants me to consider a gtt but isn't going to push the matter. I was left with some fairly big issues after serious mistreatment during my first birth, slightly worrying when I told her one of the worst bits (which borders on assault) as explanation to why I didn't want to be there she described the consultant involved and wasn't surprised :(

Congratulations lig glad it went well, don't worry you have ages to get used to the idea, get the odd cute baby thing and start looking at prams and it will soon start to feel real but I think with your first it's not really real till you're holding baby in your arms.

How is everyone this morning?

Ambi · 03/02/2012 08:22

Hello all, this household has been full of flu this week. DD had it on Monday, I caught it on Tuesday and been off work for the rest of the week DH caught it yesterday. I've been feeling sorry for myself cause I can't medicate Sad

On another note, am I the only one not to have seen a mw yet? Saw the doc 2 weeks ago for self referral but nothing from the mws yet. Should I try to chase it?

Ambi · 03/02/2012 08:36

Pickle how terrifying, so glad they found a hb. Since DD I'm so conscious of something going wrong after friends experiences which makes me worry much more this time.

Ruskie £3k Shock not a chance. I did it cheaply last time, clothes from ebay (nicer than I would buy). If you have the time, shopping around makes a difference, I bought a gorgeous white waffle moses basket from John Lewis at £30, £20-30 cheaper than argos/ mothercare, then bought a rocking base from Argos for £15. My most expensive items were the travel system (cheapest from Toysrus) and a colour video monitor. I don't think I spent any more than £300.

ruskiewicz · 03/02/2012 14:23

Ambi - thanks for the advice. John Lewis is a nice place, who'd have thought they'd be less expensive?
Pickle - I hope you're OK after your scare. It's a worrying time this early on as it is, good news re. the HB though.
Deafworm - congrats on the scan. As for the pram: 65 colour choices? I'd be paralysed with indecision!
Stopped off at Mothercare the other day (I was passing, honestly). Didn't take long til I gravitated towards the Orla Kiely rip-off patterned changing bags (£80). The felt guilty for not looking at necessary things. Am going to stay away until after the scan (15 Feb - ages off). Not going to start worrying yet. Chocolate helps Wink

Deafworm · 03/02/2012 15:51

Enjoy the window shopping Ruskie, in fairness I don't like most of the colours I just got carried away at the possibility of a pram as we've spent the last 5 years using doubles or little buggies. Oh no I'm going to have to go back to having a changing bag and the one I love that was fine for my toddler as she hit potty training won't be any use for a baby :( quite like some of the ones in next though

Hope your feeling better now ambi? The no lemsip rule is rubbish isn't it

Ambi · 03/02/2012 21:29

Thanks deafworm, getting to the other side, it was the no paracetamol rule which nearly killed me . Have a good weekend everyone x
