...and those of us left are doing a fair bit of bitching:o

I wonder if we could get a [pompoms] going on? Do we have the energy for a campaign?Wink

Right, come on! We're a third of the way through the month and Nickelbabe needs new recruits for her advent thread. Get squeezing:o

kristy sorry to hear about the constipation, Eva had it and was awful to see her screaming in pain. And I don't see any problem with dummies as long as you get rid of them by around 18 months.

kri5tycringle · 16/12/2011 22:45

aetheleda totally agree, only have one from the birth, but this grape just isn't budging... Tmi!

kri5tycringle · 16/12/2011 22:49

seven poor Eva :( its heartbreaking!
Yeh I have seen the light, I'll cross the bridge of getting rid of it at a later date! Although he doesn't really like it!

Oh has gone out tonight, I'm annoyed, but think I'm being selfish. I'm exhausted, but have Saul to look after all night, I was ment to be going out for a few hours tomorrow evening with a friend (i haven't all pregnancy) n I have just text her now to cancel as I'm just too tired! Feel a bit annoyed oh didn't 'think' to wait a few more weeks to go out, or to come home early :(

AReindeerCalledHorse · 16/12/2011 23:20

Congrats Chinchilla & Kate!!

Self-indulgent post alert; I'm going to put the poms-poms away for myself, was supposed to be swept today by MW....turned up for the appointment, wasn't my regular MW & this one refused to do the sweep as she doesn't 'do' them. Cue 20 mins of crying from me, she's told me that the best thing I can do to help is trying to express.

Kri5ty don't feel bad/selfish! Hope you get your going out mojo back soon. x

sevenswansaswimming · 16/12/2011 23:21

kristy FWIW I didn't have any trouble weaning DS off his, I just stopped giving it to him. He only had it at bedtime anyway, the first night he took a couple of hours longer than normal to settle, the next night he took an extra half hour then after that he was fine without it.

kri5tycringle · 16/12/2011 23:23

awch... poor thing, it must be so frustrating when you have got your mind set you're having a sweep!!

I text oh asking him to come home over half an hour ago.. funny enough I haven't had a reply :(

sevenswansaswimming · 16/12/2011 23:24

ARCH that's just crap, you must be fuming.

kri5tycringle · 16/12/2011 23:30

seven I guess if it gets him through this colic it is a good thing!

I'm actually really pleased, he woke up at 10, bang on 3 hours from his last feed, and by 11 he was changed, fed and settled! just annoyed as I can't get to sleep and enjoy it as OH is out... for some reason I just can't sleep if he isn't here!

LittleMissHumbuggery · 17/12/2011 05:53

ARCH I can't understand why a midwife would refuse a sweep. It's part if the training, and if she doesn't like dealing with the 'messy' end of care she really is in the wrong profession. I'd be tempted to leave feedback with your community team:)

Toothache still here! Feel like my face is all swollen now, but it's not. There's a tender area all along the edge and underneath my jaw on the outside too. I feel as though there ought to be a massive bruise and a black eye going on:( Am ravenous too, but eating is impossible >_<

Just taken some more painkillers. This poor baby is going to need rehab if it arrives in the next few days:( Hopefully the octopus will stay put a week more so my system and his/hers clears of the codeine >_<

aethel I can see where your problem is... It's the bugger, not good for piles that you know!Wink

On that poor attempt at a joke I shall depart. My bed is still looking inviting:)

kri5tycringle · 17/12/2011 07:39

lmh your joke made me chuckle... from my very inviting bed!

DeckTheHawthersWithBells · 17/12/2011 07:58

Feeling rather stupid over here. Got some painful tightenings yesterday afternoon whilst parents were here so DM decided to stay the night. DH got all excited and so didn't sleep well and precisely NOTHING has happened over night. Feel like a right tit as it has been a massive false alarm.

Lovely news to hear of more new babies - will check back to coo over pictures when not on phone.

msbaublestwinkle · 17/12/2011 08:25

aethel argh indeed! Witch hazel helps if it isn't responding to the usual creams.

seven Eva's weight gain is impressive, it must be reassuring. Both big DDs were slow gainers, I'm hoping that Miri isn't!

arch odd that the mw doesn't do sweeps and frustrating for you! Can you make an appointment for one next week?

kristy sounds like the dummy is working! I hope it led to an easier night for you all.

We're all in bed watching TV as is saturday morning tradition, DD1 has been cuddling Miri, DD2 doesn't want to hold her much but likes stroking her head a lot. Miri has woken up a lot more in the last three days, she enjoys staring at my hair mostly when awake! My sister is coming round today to meet Miri, and is feeling brave enough to hold her too (sister feels a bit awkward with newborns, but as Miri is bigger she doesn't feel so worried about it!)

aethelfleda · 17/12/2011 09:15

Arg, phone ate my post.

Sympathies Hawthers but I'm on baby number 3 and still had a false alarm: you just can't tell what's going to happen till it either kicks off or settles down. You did totally the right thing. Imagine if you'd said "it's fine everyone, nothing to see!" and then had baby by yourself in the living room while awaiting help...

ARCH, how annoying! Sweeps are officially optional: so some midwives choose to deskill by not doing them. It's a bit like some GPs don't do smear tests. Personally I think all MWs should offer sweeps but I can't make them and professionally it's not a compulsory element of their job description (weird I know). Make sure you see a MW for your next appt not a GP, and hope it's a diff one who will hopefully sweep you.

LMH grr for the teeth! May be an infection if the bit under your jaw is swollen? Poss worth a dentist/GP review as there are antibiotics safe in pregnancy if it's a hidden abcess thing.

msbuggy, thanks for the tip: can i get witch hazel in a regular Boots/sainsburys or will I need to find an alternative health shop to get some? I'll give my anusol cream (great name) 48 hours as its helping a bit, then switch if it's not doing the job.

Positive vibes for everyone who needs them and everyone who's got their babies have lots of snuggles and optional brie!

(I've been to the Co-op and have bought a baking Camenbert in an attempt to combat my now severe cheese withdrawl symptoms... )

festivefiggy · 17/12/2011 09:47

Oh the indignity continues just had to be rescued from the bath by DH as after 10 minutes of flailing around like a beached whale I still couldn't get up. Thought I would try steaming him out since my sweep and last nights curry seem thus far to have had no effect I can't imagine how trying to get in and out of bath when in labour is such a recommended option.

arch I completely sympathise with you about the sweep the fact I can't have another 1 and am now just seemingly on the long wait to induction had me crying last night for the first time.

OiMistletoe · 17/12/2011 10:38

Kristy or anyone with knowledge : what's involved in a blood patch? Go into theatre, transfer blood from arm to back - for how long? Then go home? Pain?
This headache is killing me - I've overdone the painkillers, to no effect.
Alistair seems to want to feed all the time at the moment, and I should be thinking about him, not tensing up and holding my head the whole time.

Highs: my swollen legs and ankles = gone!!! They're almost back to normal! I haven't seen them in over 7 weeks!

KateKringle · 17/12/2011 12:28

Just re-created my profile which had disappeared for some reason, and have added some photos of Daniel. MW just visited and all fine. Now if only I could get some sleep! Daniel seems nocturnal and would only sleep for a few hours on my chest last night, he wouldn't go in his moses basket. It's exactly how DD was initially though, so hoping we can sort that out soon enough!

Sorry, still haven't caught up with all of your news. Hope you're all doing OK

OiMistletoe · 17/12/2011 12:34

Kate my profile and photos have disappeared too. I think everyone's has... I sent MN a msg about it yesterday.

kri5tycringle · 17/12/2011 14:25

oi they take blood from your arm, I had an iv too, then its the same as when you have the epidural, takes about 15 mins, then I had to lie down for an hour after.

You're not allowed to lift anything for 24 hours afterwards

The risks are the same as an epidural, but the relief is near enough instant x

kri5tycringle · 17/12/2011 14:31

kate Saul is the same, falls asleep on his bottle in the day, and at night he is wide awake and takes 2 hours to settle after each feed (even now the colic medicine is working)

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 17/12/2011 16:08

Afternoon ladies,

Nothing much to report here, except DP has got me drinking Raspberry leaf tea as apposed to swallowing a capsule and bleurgh is all I can say, but 1 down 2 go!

Clary sage oil for the bath is to be had today too lol! Think Snowball is far to comfy in there! X

SoTiredoftheWheelsontheBus · 17/12/2011 16:19

I haven't managed to get online for a couple of days, and am still reading my way through the posts (but congrats to hoho and tyel and their families, as I've got to that page, still several days behind so congrats to everyone else who has had their dc since), but I just wanted to say hello to Msbuggy as we're having the same jaundice/lost 10% birth weight issues at the moment (I think I've already posted a bit about this - apologies if I'm repeating myself - not enough sleep means I can't really keep track). DS2 lost 10% by day 5 (and it then stayed pretty constant for the next 5 days), but other than jaundice, which started to go down by day 7, the midwives/paediatricians weren't very concerned as they said he was alert, was feeding frequently, had lots of wet/dirty nappies. My mw has loaned me a hospital-grade breast pump, and after a couple of days of using this (rather than my old manual pump) a couple of times a day to top him up, and feeding him on demand (for lots of the day this is at least once an hour, with two sets of cluster feeds a day which are even closer together - actually that's probably why I haven't managed to get online for a few days Smile). He's now day 16 and has put back on half of the weight he has lost. He'll be weighed again later next week, and we're going to carry on this plan over Christmas, but it's reassuring to know that his weight is now going in the right direction

LittleMissHumbuggery · 17/12/2011 17:39

He took the tooth:o

Hi everyone, keep wanting to reply to people individually but don't get around to it and then forget who said what! Congrats to everyone who has popped recently, not many left now. Must be frustrating being one of the last few! Sorry guys.

LMF sorry about your teeth. Last thing you need right now. Kristy we gave DS a dummy, I wasn't keen on it originally but now looking back don't think could have coped without it and he is such an amazing sleeper now. He can be mega hyper before bed but as soon as he snuggles down with it and his rabbit he goes straight to sleep in minutes. I think some babies really need to suck and the cranial osteopath told me that it can massively reduce the baby's stress levels and therefore be really beneficial in terms of brain development etc. Also recommended for SIDs.

I've had a few complications post EMCS, infection of wound, stomach upset from anti-biotics and some perineal pain/spasms which make it hard to urinate. But pain from incision much less now and can lie down comfortably at last which helps with sleeping!

Kate and kristy (and think someone else mentiomned this too) babybel is also hard to settle at night. Imn the day she will feed and then go down straight away but at night she grizzles and squirms for ages before settling. So annoying! She is feeding well though and already 3oz over birthweight at 10 days old. She's had jaundice too but got a lot better today.

Is it normal that she sleeps pretty much all day? I reckon she is only awake 2/3 hours in the day. MW says is fine as long as she is alert when awake, which she is, but I don't remember DS sleeping so much!

sevenswansaswimming · 17/12/2011 17:54

Thank heavens for the stretchy wrap! Eva has been unsettled all afternoon and cries every time I put her down!

mmm sorry I can't remember but was she early? I would now be 39 weeks and DD is only awake that much.

sotired glad to hear about the weight gain.

Christmas party was fun and Eva got lots of cuddles.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

mopsytop · 17/12/2011 18:04

hi everyone, hope all is going well for all with their babies. Now, which of us is still left to go then? I have been having many cramps but all v. sporadic and have turned into nothing. Grrrr. I am not enjoying this! I thought preparation contractions were supposed to be painless? I've been having cramps/contractions on and off for TWO WEEKS! and nothing. Is very frustrating! And while they are not mega painful, it's as least as bad as bad period pains. Sorry for the me me me post! But I am getting fed up now.
