Thought I would take the plunge and join this "club" as due on 23rd July with 3rd baby (but 6th pregnancy as have had 3mcs ). Still feel a bit spooky about joining as scared I might somehow jinx it but was intrigued to read about Kayzed's Braxton Hicks which I also had for about three days last week. Asked the doctor and the midwife about it but they couldn't explain it and just said not to worry as long as there was no bleeding or really bad pain. One midwife said that, having been pregnant so many times, that I was just more sensitive. Thought that I would just be so slack and baggy that wouldn't feel anything!!
Well, Good luck to everyone.

I know at HC's 12 weeks scan they didnt check the nucual fold but those who didnt had a nucual scan, when you had your dating scan did they look at the nucal fold. As far as I could tell on our scan all they did was measure the length and didnt check anything. In fact they didnt even try to get a good image of the baby which they did with DD.
I dont know now if I should book one privately.

Im soooo thristy as well. When I get up at night to go to the loo I have to have a drink and only cold drinks will do. I keep visualising bottles of cold lager, I dont even like lager but it sounds so appealing at the moment. mmmm...

kbaby · 15/01/2006 10:51

Ive been looking on he internet now to see about getting a nuchal scan done. I dont know what to do. Part of me thinks my age 29 isnt high risk but then the other part thinks it may be worth it.
I cant find any details on which hospitals offer it. anyone know ?

HumphreysCorner · 15/01/2006 11:22

Morning ladies

A massive welcome to Clara1-congratulations on your PG. Some of us on here have had MC's so we are all here to reassure each other. ((xx))

kayzed-at our 12 week scan all the sonographer did was measure the length and confirm the due date was right then walked out the room. We were left wondering what to do next. But in my NHS guide it details what to expect at the 20 week morphology scan and gives a list of abnormalities and the % chance of being seen. They are:

Spina Bifida 90%
Anencephaly (absence of top of head) 99%
Heart problems 25%
Hydrocephalus (brain fluid) 60%
Hernia 60%
Exomphalos/gastroschisis (abdominal wall defect) 90%
Major kidney problems 85%
Major limb abnormalities 90%
Cerebral palsy Never seen
Autism Never seen
Downs Syndrome About 40%

So along with the blood test results when I get them will hopefully get a realistic % chance.

So the list is as follows:

HumphreysCorner 1.7.06
bumpybel 4.7.06
spub 4.7.06
dangirl 8.7.06
OldieMum 11.7.06

I had a look over the old posts and found heartinthecountry but we haven't heard anything since her scan on the 10th Jan. Hope you are OK hun. ((xx))

Must go and peel some veg for tea.

Bye for now

Straightforward · 15/01/2006 11:52

Welcome to the gang Clara1 and congrats on your pg!

AggiePanther - sounds like a pretty scary predicament! My placenta came out naturally just a few mins after the birth of my dd, so it's definitely possible. I remember thinking a vital organ had slipped out by accident - couldn't believe it was so huge!!

As for the nuchal fold scan availability - ask your midwife for advice. Here (in Worthing, Sx), anyone can have a free scan but you have to go to Kings College hospital in London and it's a rather long and drawn out procedure, or you can pay £95 and go privately just up the road. We weighed up the options and decided that by the time dh and I had got up to London, had something to eat and paid a babysitter for the duration, we'd probably be better off paying for the local one. You don't need to have one, but it's v reassuring

By the way, anyone feeling movement yet? I keep feeling little fluttery sensations, but then I tell myself it's just my dinner rearranging itself and wishful thinking! Can't remember how many weeks it is when you can first feel them.

Kayzed - I'd definitely go to Oz (cos I've never been), but then a long flight combined with pregnany and toddlers would be a nightmare!

OP posts:
Straightforward · 15/01/2006 12:03

Also haven't heard from harley1 for a worryingly long time - are you out there, harley1?

OP posts:
AggiePanther · 15/01/2006 15:31

Welcome Clara

Re dating scan - they don't check the nuchal fold at our local hospital- just the size - seems a bit daft to me - I'm 14 weeks now so its too late for me to have one - apparently its no more accurate than the triple test though - its just you can have it earlier.

Re movement - definitely something going on down there - some 'busyness' and the occasional strange prod - not sure what that is but it doesnt feel like wind

HC I've re-done the list cos my dates were brought forward to the 15th.

Kayzed - my mum is Ozzie and traveled there with me and my sisters 4 2 and 3 months. She said it was a total nightmare journey as she was basically on her own (Dad was flying the plane). However, imagine how cool when you get there, and any trauma will be shortlived....good to have well travelled kids I reckon.

HC - I can't believe how brusque your sonographers are being compared to my experience. Our's was so friendly and helpful, spent ages explaining and discussing, and was so nice! Shows how care can differ according to geography but I'm shocked at how offhand yours was.

I am sooooooo thirsty, I have drunk a pint of water by morning every morning. No wonder I'm on the loo all night long. So what with that and DS's new reliance on a dummy at night and waking up every 3 hours for it to be shoved back in his gob (wicked) I'm not feeling that well rested - fell asleep in mid conversation with my sister yesterday afternoon....

My cousin had a baby boy at home last night, 9 pound 7 oz!!!

Yeah, harley1 and HITC where are you? Show yourselves....

jersey · 16/01/2006 08:35

Congrats on the scan Blossom, and welcome Clara. Kbaby i'm due on 21st July according to scan and I am 13+3 today.

I have also had a couple of flutters which could be movement, not sure as didn't feel DS until quite late. Also think this one is kicking without me feeling the kicks as I keep getting sore patches on the left side of my bump. Anyone else getting this?

HC I have bad sciatica which started 2 weeks before I knew I was preg. Prob not related but I did have it for 2 weeks when preg with DS at about 30 weeks but that was the position he was laid in and when he moved it went away. Hopefully seeing osteo this week so will let you know if that helps.

madness · 17/01/2006 09:26

hurree, just good the blood results through the post. Risk calculated from scan/blood test and age is quite low!!!!

madness · 17/01/2006 09:28

jersey, according to scan due date 21st as well. As I know I'm going to be induced at 40 weeks (or before) I was hoping for a inducting date of 24th (monday instead of friday, just few more days to possibly deliver without induction...)

jersey · 17/01/2006 09:46

Why are you being induced madness?

madness · 17/01/2006 11:23

long story, Jersey
Have antibodies that can cause jaundice in the baby. Had to have lots of scans with dd during pregnancy.

jersey · 17/01/2006 12:01

OK. Just wondered how they knew so early on. I was induced with DS but that was due to pre-eclampsia which I'm hoping I don't get this time.

puddytat99 · 17/01/2006 15:27

Just wanted to say hi to everyone

I'm due 6th Jul with my 2nd, after sadly losing 3. My son will be 12 by the time Blob is here, so I'd best doing some reading up as it's been a while (wink) My son was also due on 6th but came 23rd Jun, hope this one isn't that early too!!!

20 week scan on 17th Feb, so looking forward to that.

Have talked over names but can't find any that we both like yet. Doesn't help that I work in a school.

AggiePanther · 17/01/2006 17:28

Welcome puddytat and congratulations
There'll be 11years between my dd and this one so I know what you mean ...people keep telling me it's like riding a bike though ...hope they mean 'it all comes back to you' and not 'you'll get groin pain'

AggiePanther · 17/01/2006 17:31

Started a thread on this but thought I'd add it here to let you all know..

Just wanted to pass on this link for those of you who are missing your wine. All the wines are de alcoholised so have less than 0.5% alcohol..by my reckoning that means 20-25 glasses are equal to one glass of 'normal' wine!! Ok its not the real thing but some of them are not bad ...I tried the carl jung white which is really quite convincing, the carl jung red isn't bad either ..wasn't keen on some of the more expensive ones though.

Tesco are also doing some ..the brand is 'stutter home' and the name is 'fre' ..I thought the red was horrid but the zinfandel blush was really nice...will try the white today)

Oh dear ..just read this back and I sound a bit desperate ...was missing my wine though

PS I don't normally drink 20-25 glasses of wine...that was just my sums!!

agalch · 17/01/2006 17:45

HI all

Hope everyone and bumps are well. I think i'm 12+5 today, not great at working the dates out. Can't wait for my 2nd scan on 31st January. Who are you all having as a birth partner? My dp was there for ds1 and was pretty terrified i have to say. I was on my own with ds2 as dp was looking after ds1(no babysitter).I chose my 2 fellow childminder friends for my dd's birth and it was a fab experience. My mum may come this time but not totally sure what i want to do this time.Plenty time to decide i suppose!

agalch · 17/01/2006 17:49

BTW aggie and puddytat(congtrats ) my kids are 14.5 and 10 and dd is 17 months and it wasn't as hard as i thought it might be having a big age gap.You will have loads of time for new babe and your older ones will be loads of help as mine were.

HumphreysCorner · 17/01/2006 18:08

Hello ladies

Congratulations and welcome to puddytat99 My 20 week scan is on the 16th February-not too long now. ((xx))

Feeling quite a few kicks now which is great but when I got out of the car this morning it felt like the baby was coming out, a really heavy low down weight feeling-was in panic mode but seems OK now-phew!

Brill news on your test results madness-they won't do ours until 16 weeks hence mine being on Thursday then the horrid 2 week wait. With DD I didn't hear anything but I think I shall ring this time.
