Well, I was about to post to the normal one and I saw we were about to change to a new thread, so thought I'd start it as noone else had!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
kbaby · 17/01/2006 20:04

I think im feeling flutterings. They started today. I mustve been 17 weeks when I felt them with DD so this seems really early. It feels as if the side of my belly is being tickled.

OldieMum · 17/01/2006 20:07

I felt definite movements last night. DH put his hand on my abdomen and could feel them too.

jersey · 18/01/2006 08:04

Morning everyone welcome to the new mumstobe .

Been absolutly knackered this week, monday night DH collected DS and I went straight home to bed. Tried some dinner later and threw it up! DS slept through last night for first time in months so a little better this morning. Decided to book Friday & Monday off to try and sleep and work on essay for college as we start back this week.

Hope this gets better soon.

Still have slight flutterings but not on a regular basis yet. Mind you it is very early didn't feel DS until about 20 weeks.

Hope everyone else is feeling better and roll on those scans.

Re birthing partners my DH was last time and will be this time as MIL can look after DS as she only lives around the corner. Was going to have MIL as well last time but when it came to it thought I would be too embarrased having other people see me like that. Shouldn't have bothered as the number of people who ended up in the delivery room after the midwife pressed the alarm button I think the whole world saw my bits, so much for dignity .

HumphreysCorner · 18/01/2006 09:09

Morning ladies

I'm panicking again because I realise I haven't felt any movement since the low down weight incident yesterday morning. I keep prodding but can't get a reaction. Am seeing the midwife tomorrow so will ask her to look for a heartbeat. Hoping everything will be OK though. Feel really light headed at the moment so perhaps my blood pressure is low.

MIL made a comment about being there for DD's birth. That was NEVER going to happen!!!

Have a good day all

xxx

mumswish · 18/01/2006 09:18

Just crashing ladies to say HC I'm sure everything will be fine. Didnt you buy a doppler (or whatever its called?) maybe you could try listening out for the heartbeat that way.

I'm sure everything is great so dont worry hunny.

HumphreysCorner · 18/01/2006 09:27

Thanks mumswish-have just had a listen but it is a cheap doppler and you can only hear whooshing. Fingers crossed eh?

Take care hun.

AggiePanther · 18/01/2006 09:49

Morning all,
HC I'm sure everything will be fine but will cross my fingers anyway
I was prodding away at my belly for ages last night and got no response, but this morning I just felt a little kick...I reckon at this stage they're so small and well cushioned that prodding doesn't disturb them ....mind you in my case I have an extra layer of fat for the prods to get through so I'm sure he/she can't feel a damn thing!

heartinthecountry · 18/01/2006 13:19

Hello all - sorry I have been so busy and everytime I looked at this thread got overwhelmed by the number of posts! Really felt touched that it was noticed I wasn't here .

Scan on the 10th went well. No obvious abnormalities and good nuchal result. We went to the fetal assessment unit at Kings as my dd has congenital brain abnormalities and I have to say they were brilliant. We were in there for at least 30-40 minutes and they looked really closely at everything.

Yesterday though I saw their geneticist and found out that there is a chance this baby could have the same condition as dd. Previously we have always been led to believe it was a random genetic abnormality but now it seems it will have been my egg that had a 'flaw'. It is possible that there was only the one egg with the problem or I may have more eggs with the same gene abnormality.

If the baby has the same condition as dd they should be able to detect some of the key abnormalities at 21 weeks. So I am booked in for another scan at Kings then. If they find anything they are not 100% happy about then I can have an in-utero MRI scan which will definitively tell us if the brain abnormalities are there. I do at least feel confident that we are in the best possible hands.

Am scared though. Sorry, didn't really want to go on but its not an easy thing to talk about with anyone other than dh in real life.

spub · 18/01/2006 14:25

Hi gang,

Hope all well. HITC - what a worrying time you have just now. Fingers crossed that all will be well and that you'll get plenty of support if difficult decisions have to be made.Hugs.

I saw the consultant yesterday and he's referred me to see a specialist to that I can have my sphincter function assessed (oh joy ).

DD left me with a 3rd degree tear and a small chance of faecal incontinence. Thankfully, that didn't come to pass and after a few scary weeks post delivery, all is well. However I don't want to risk further damage to the area by insisting on a vaginal delivery (though I'd prefer it) so we're gonna do some fun tests like shoving a balloon up my bum to see how much "reserve strength" I have before we agree on a delivery method.

I also had a retained placenta so at least a section would take care of that repeat possibility too! I do know that it's major surgery and certainly not an easy opt out though.

How's everyone else???
Any embarrassing tales from elsewhere???

AggiePanther · 18/01/2006 14:29

Hi hitc ..welcome back Not surprised you've not been on for a while..sounds like you've got quite enough to think about! Hope all goes well for you xx
Spub you poor thing that sounds awful ...I found myself clenching at the thought of the balloon!!

dangirl · 18/01/2006 14:40

Afternoon ladies

Haven't been on for a little while. I love that this is such an active thread by now!

I still feel absolutely fine apart from a bit tired. But then again I have been cronically tired since DD arrived almost 4 years ago
I sympathise with those of you going through a rough time. hopefully it will be getting better very soon.

We opted out of nuchal scan but will be having blood test next week. Last time I was in really low category and hope to be there again this time.

Found myself looking through a name book last night. A sign that I am really believing in this pregnancy now and daring to bond with the little one

Am 15 + 5 today. A few flutterings but no definite kicks as of yet. Can't wait!!

spub · 18/01/2006 15:11

Hey dangirl!
I'm getting a few flutters. This is my 2nd baby though so perhaps I'm feeling it because of that?
Is this your first? I should remember these details about everyone so much better

heartinthecountry · 18/01/2006 15:43

Spub - sorry but I couldn't help sniggering at your 'anal activites'. I'm sure it really isn't funny.

I think I have felt a few flutterings but I'm only 13.5 weeks - surely I can't be feeling anything this early?

I still feel sick though .

I feel daft for asking this especially as this is my 4th baby. I seem to remember that with my other pg's by this stage my tummy felt hard/firm to the touch, but this time it still feels just soft/flabby. I am carrying a bit more weight from dd's birth 17 months ago but i'm a bit worried anyway. I have my scan on 31st jan and i'm seriously wondering if they might say it's not there anymore or something. How do your tums feel to you? Im 12+5 i reckon.

spub · 18/01/2006 19:03

Algach,
I'm sure that everything will be fine. I'm 16 weeks with number 2 and just now feel like I'm firming up!
HITC - glad I made you smile. It IS actually quite funny, really. Anything to do with bums and poos is innately funny to me and provided I don't end up wearing nappies I'll still find it funny!

Wallace · 18/01/2006 19:08

Hello everybody I have been lurking for ages and have finally decided to join this exclusive club. I am due around about the 29th of July with my third baby.

I have also been thinking I am feeling flutters but not sure seeing as I am only 12+3 (basing my dates on agalchs!)

HITC you have my sympathy, we are also in a similar(ish) situation as dd was born with a hole in her heart which needed surgery. This baby will have more chance of having heart problems because of this so I am having every scan available. Terrified it may happen again.

AggiePanther · 18/01/2006 19:42

agalch ..I'm definitely flabby
HC ..jusst to reassure you ...my friend who is 18 weeks had the midwife round today as she'd had a slight loss 2 days ago and hadn't felt any movements since and she was quite used to a lot of movement. Midwife came and listened in and all was well ...apparently if the baby moves towards the back or has its limbs facing towards your back you will feel less movement. HTH

Straightforward · 18/01/2006 20:42

Hi Wallace and puddytat99 - congrats!

My tummy area is definitely not feeling firm, and I know that feeling of disbelief there's anything there even though I've seen it clearly on the scan! If anything (and this is not a complaint by the way), people have been asking me if I've lost weight recently... All very bizarre.

Thought I could feel flutterings a week or so ago, but haven't done since. Had a nasty bout of food poisoning/24 hour bug thing the other day (scared myself to death over what it could do to the baby), and just before that I'd thought I could feel movement - now I know it was the day's food just getting ready to be ejected forcefully from every orifice!!

Spub and HITC - thinking of you guys going through it. Good luck xx

dangirl · 18/01/2006 21:06

Have had a few definite movements this evening as sitting in front of tele. I love it!!

Spub - no this is my 2nd. Have a DD who will be 4 in Feb. Still haven't told her about baby. We have had 2 MC in the last year and I just want to be 350% sure before I tell her anything. I know she will be so thrilled! Bless her

bumpybel · 19/01/2006 08:15

Morning campers, hi de hi! Wow... havent logged on for a few days and there are millions of updates!!! I'm feeling sooo much better now than i did a couple of weeks back. I hope everyone else is feeling lots better. The bottom of my tummy is starting to feel quite hard, and the top squidgy, but this is all new to me, so not really sure whats normal and not.

Spub, reading your thing about balloons and tears and stuff made me wonder if i should ask to see doc about a whopping great scar i've got between my front and back bits (down there)! Had a lump (not cancerous) about five years ago and the hosp left me with a scar about four inches long, running like a smile (!) from one side to the other, quite near bottomy bits. (God its hard to describe when feeling a bit embarrassed!) Anyway, following lots of packing but no stitches, everything went ok, but they did say they had to cut quite near my muscles. Everything seems to be normal again, but am wondering if i should ask to see docs, rather than midwifery led care. what do you think? So far midwifes have said it sounds ok, but they havent seen it, and i've opted for midwifery led care.

On a lighter note... I'm in court tomorrow (goodie not baddie) and I cant fit into any of my outfits! At this rate I'll be turning up in my tracksuit bottoms! Nice!

Its so fab that we've got a nice big July gang.. Big smiles to everyone

HumphreysCorner · 19/01/2006 08:32

Morning all. Having a bit of a panic attack - went to stay at my dad's last thursday for w/end and (dh joined on fri) we had a chicken stir fry cdooked by my dad.. anyway i noticed 1/3 of the way through it wasn;t cooked properly and didn't know what to do. (He was so excited to have me and ds to stay bless him, and had made such an effort i didn't want to scream at him for under cooking the chicken) so after the meal i popped upstairs to the loo and brought the meal back up again in a mad panic and having not eaten the remainder of the meal.

On sunday night i went to bed with awful pains across bump and woke up with a sore throat , cold and aches and pain all over body. Stayed in bed as Ds was at nursery monday and slept alot and took paracetamol.

On tues the aches had gone but felt very fluey/blocked up but assumed i was getting better..

Yesterday i felt slightly better in a.m till about 10am when we got in the car to go to a toddler group we had a quick lunch out and started feeling worse on way home.
MIL popped over so i could pop and buy a new tumble dryer and in john lewis i nearly collapsed so left, found a cafe and sat and had an apple juice to see if i would feel better.

Had to come home and go sraight to bed and am ging to hospital this morning.
do you think ijust have a bug and being paranoid or can bugs cause a miscarriage risk?

Can't get the undercooked chicken out of my head qand i didn't tell dh incase he hit the roof wth dad. am 14+4 today.
Anyone any sound advice???

HumphreysCorner · 19/01/2006 09:45

Monkeychops-I think you just have a bug as it is v. unusual to get a sore throat and aches with food poisoning. Also, it is highly unlikely for a bug to cause a MC. It is only natural to worry though but the hospital will put your mind at rest. Will check on you later. ((xx))

Girls, have just had a kick so feeling optimistic now. Blood tests in an hour.

AggiePanther · 19/01/2006 09:58

Morning all ...and hello again to everyone who has been away for a while

Monkeychops - from what I remember from my nursing days, salmonella will cause vomiting/diarrhoea within 6-36 hours, so as you've not had those symptoms it doesn't sound like salmonella. I had a look at Listeria, which is more like flu with nausea/diarrhoea, but apparently:
"The illness normally strikes within two to eight weeks after eating contaminated food, but it can take up to 10 weeks to become ill."

so it sounds a bit soon for it to be listeria.

If it is flu or a similar virus/bug then you might take longer than normal to get over it but it shouldn't harm the baby ..from what I've read

I hope this helps ...let us know how you get on...and get well soon xx
