Well, I was about to post to the normal one and I saw we were about to change to a new thread, so thought I'd start it as noone else had!!

My maternity pay isn't quite as good as that bumpybel! - sorry, worded it a bit ambiguously. I can either take six months at full pay or a year at half pay. Still, it is very good and I am very lucky I know.

Afternoon girls

I am having a really down day today Getting increasingly worried re my visit to the premature clinic last Wed and the fact that my cervix is already shortening. Also i am having a number of "tightenings/contractions/Braxton hicks" or what ever they are. They are not painful but I am just aware of them. Also very aware that I felt no pain with DD untill I was 10 cm dilated.
Sorry - a bit of a rant. just needed to vent a bit

DH is trying to chear me up - bless him. But I just feel like I need a good cry - a bit depressed these past few days.
It shall be good to go back next Wed and find out some more with another scan.
I don't know how I shall cope for too long with this amount of stress and worry.

Funny how it actually helps a bit just to write about it.

Hope everyone else are well.

Dangirl
17 weeks today

usandbump · 28/01/2006 17:57

Hi dangirl, sorry to hear you're worried and down, have a good cry if you need to and let DH look after you, much better for you than worrying to yourself. Thinking of you and sending positive thoughts re scan. Congrats on 17 wks, I am 18 wks on mon so there isn't much between us In fact you are due on my birthday!
I'm ok but been worrying myself lately not sure why just felt uneasy, couldn't get in to see doc or midwife so saw nurse and she says its just my hormones but would have felt better if I could have listened to heartbeat. Counting down till scan on 9th.
Hope you are all taking good care of yourselves.

Wallace · 28/01/2006 19:28

dangirl -Good luck for wednesday...It must be hard with the extra worry. I'm also having Braxton Hicks so hopefully that's normal

Wallace · 28/01/2006 19:33

Anyone else still not blooming? I'm spotty and knackered, and starting to get to that "just looking a bit fat" stage.

Can't wait til I've got a proper bump, and I can feel the baby moving more - just the odd flutter at the moment..was it someone here that described it as a goldfish swimming around inside, occasionally brushing against the edge of the bowl? Good descrption

usandbump · 29/01/2006 08:36

Morning everyone

Wallace, I'm not showing much either, all my trousers got tight and many of them I can't wear now but its not enuf for everyone to notice I am pg (unless I was to walk around in a skin tight leotard- never gonna happen!!)
I'm still not sure that what I'm feeling is the baby, I was worrying about this so popped over to due June thread and this is perfectly normal apparently especially for first pregnancies.

My sisters came over last night and we had a giggle organising what they would like to buy and they were helping (?) with names. Then the converstations turned to childbirth and I felt it was time to go to bed!! Hope you are all having a lovely weekend, we are going off to Asda soon and then to city centre to watch Chinese New Year display.

bumpybel · 29/01/2006 18:34

Evening all!

Dangirl you poor old chicken . Really hope things perk up for you a bit. It sounds like youre getting loads of care though and everything is being monitored. It'd probably do you good to have a good old bawl and then eat a big bag of minstrels or something . Fingers crossed for Wednesday.

Wallace.. I am looking like a big stumpy legged, fat waisted heiffer at the moment, with thighs like chicken drumsticks! So i'm not blooming! I do feel much much better in myself... lots more energy and staying power, but not looking at all radiant or shiny haired (wiry haired - yes!). Ive been doing loads of swimming to try and avoid ballooning any more. When i went yesterday, there was a girl in the pool with her ten month old baby, and she didnt even look as though she had a single stretch mark. I felt like an enormous whale.. and she was a nice person too, which made it all the worse! I was there in my new bargain sale mothercare swim cossie, wishing i looked massively pregnant rather than portly!!!

Heartinthecountry.. theres no getting out of it.. six months full pay still makes you a jammy bugger!!!

I think i might have been feeling some sort of movement... like little bubbles going up inside inside my tummy... only once every few days, but enough to make me think it could be movement!

Right back to pretending to study! Night all

AggiePanther · 29/01/2006 22:22

(((dangirl))) thinking of you ...I reckon everyone is right ...chocolate and a good cry is necessary.
Talking of chocolate ..I'm ashamed I'm 16wks today and have already put on over a stone ...most of it went on during the nauseous first trimester ..i had to eat constantly or I felt sick ....but I'm worried now ...have just joined the slimming world thread because apparently its safe to follow when pg. Anyone else turned into a heiffer?

AggiePanther · 29/01/2006 22:24

I mean 'the slimming world diet is safe to follow' of course not 'the slimming world thread is safe to follow'

Arabica · 30/01/2006 12:54

Hello July ladies. Hope you don't mind me butting in from the August thread to ask, if any of you are on your 2nd pregnancy, have you felt the baby move yet?? Just wondering when I might expect it to happen...

spub · 30/01/2006 13:23

Hi Arabica,
Just a bit of movement and only since about 15 weeks! HTH

OldieMum · 30/01/2006 13:48

I am now at 16+6 and first felt movement about 3 weeks ago. The MW commented that this was quite early to be feeling it. DH has been able to feel movement when putting his hand on my abdomen for about two weeks, too.

Arabica · 30/01/2006 14:10

Thanks! That's encouraging. Last time I think it was about 22 weeks before I felt anything--must be all the padding!

IamBlossom · 30/01/2006 16:12

Arabica I didn't feel DS till about 22 weeks, and I am nearly 15 weeks now and haven't felt this one yet.

God I am KNACKERED! Work is SOOOO busy, been in London all day, running around late for meetings in high heels, wearing my new stretchy culottes/skirt which keeps falling down, feet are killing me, and out for the rest of the week running round the country like a lunatic! Roll on blooming maternity leave that's all I can say.

Had to catch an early train this morning so left DH to get DS to nursery so house looked like a bomb site, just spent 20 minutes restoring order. Apparently DS was a right handdful this morning, and DH is not a morning person at the best of times, so he shouted a bit and I think he feels awful for it. I think I will go and get DS early and spend a bit of time with him now, so he is all cuddly and ready for Daddy when he gets home so they can make friends. I'm sure someone told me Mothers have to be all things to all people, but I didn't really believe it at the time, I do now!

I am trying to fit in swimming where I can, but with things so busy it is not very often at the moment. I really must try and start eating less rubbish but I can't seem to stop and I'm normally really good at eating a sensible diet. I've gained about 5 pounds so far and I am sure most of that is cake and choc. Oh well, we can worry about the weight loss after the birth, no point stressing about it now.

Keep well everyone.

Love Blossom

Wallace · 30/01/2006 16:13

I am somewhere between 14 and 16 weeks and felt some tiny flutters last wek (I wasn't sure if it was the baby) and yesterday felt some definate flutters. This is my third baby.

Oldiemum - that is amazing that your dh can feel it!

Wallace · 30/01/2006 16:15

Anyone else find that when they wake up in the morning bursting for the loo, that your bump is pushed up really high - mine goes righ up to my belly button! The midwife thinks I am maybe two weeks further on than I thought...either that or it is twins!

maewest · 30/01/2006 18:27

Excellent - lots of messages to catch up on! As I'm on my first pg I'm pretty sure any flutters I'm feeling at the mo are wind Gradually becoming too fat for all my trousers, but not yet bumpy enough for mat clothes. Oh well, better buy shares in elastic bands!

Also discovered that I get free swimming at the local council pool, so no excuses not to get fit. Also hope to start ante-natal yoga next week, can't wait. Generally feeling much more myself and pretty cheerful at the moment, so sympathies to those still having a hard time.

agalch · 30/01/2006 20:11

Hi all, hope you are all doing ok,especially anyone still not feeling great.Got my scan tomorrow so i'm gonna have a bath and an early night.I'll just sit worrying all night otherwise,i'm sure it will be fine but i still worry,Anyway off to my bath and bed, have a good night all.

Wallace · 30/01/2006 20:28

Good luck for tomorrow. Nice to see that I'm not the only one thinking of bed at this time

HumphreysCorner · 30/01/2006 20:38

Evening ladies

Good luck with your scan tomorrow agalch-don't forget to fill that bladder-ouch! ((xx))

dangirl-hope you are feeling a bit brighter hun. ((xx))

I felt movement at 15 weeks this time-midwife said it was too early but I know what I felt. Felt DD at 14 weeks. I should have known what a handful she would be due to the amount of kicking. Think this one is going to be as active. Work is soooo busy and too much lifting of coin and cash machine cassettes. Feel worn out and don't know how I'm going to manage until June. If I'm only entitled to 6 months off I need to save up my holidays so I don't have to return until January (if I can). This will mean no hols until maternity leave starts.

Have a good evening all.

Night night

heartinthecountry · 30/01/2006 20:53

hiya - I think I felt this baby a couple of weeks ago, so about 13 weeks but haven't felt it recently so maybe it was just my dinner!

Blossom - a friend told me she had read an article in the times (so it must be true!) that babies born to women who ate a lot of chocolate during their pregnancy were happier - something to do with the mum being blissed out I guess. Unfortunately chocolate is one of the things making me feel sick at the moment .

Hi all,

My maternity pay goes in scales. For the first 6 weeks its full pay, 12 weeks 1/2 pay plus smp and the last 8 weeks just smp.
im not sure how well manage as our morgage is pretty big. I was planning to save some money but Ive booked a holiday instead. We can use all DD's stuff for the baby and I just want a new pram but weve still got to move DD to her new room which means getting a bed and furniure for that.

Im hoping to reduce my hours to 4 days a week but it may mean moving to the call centre so I could be on shift work. Not quite sure what to do but im really envious of all my ante natal friends who are working p/t

dangirl · 31/01/2006 09:41

Morning girls

Thank you so much for all your well wishes! It really warms!
Have had a good cry over the w/e and lots of cuddles from DH and DD - feeling better now.
I still have a heavy feeling when standing/walking around but it eases when lying down, so I have been doing a lot of that over the last few days. The actual contractions have definetely reduced. Didn't have them at all yesterday which has reassured me some what.
App with another cervical scan is tomorrow pm so will know much more by then.

kayzed - sorry to hear about your DS. Hope he is feeling better by now. It is just awful suffering from "gastro" I absolutely hate it!!! Hopefully you have escaped it.

Have a good day all

Dangirl
