Juice - I think there was somebody else on this thread hoping for a VBAC, I forget who now.

VBAC - vaginal birth after c/s
HBAC - home vaginal birth after c/s
HWBAC - home water birth after c/s

Good luck for your scan yummymummy - and have a lovely holiday!

I'm not so worried about the pain in labour (sorry if that sounds flippant to anybody who had a horrible labour last time). I had a fairly long labour last time before the c/s, which I coped with quite well. I'd happily go through that and a bit more, to not have to put up with the months of discomfort after the c/s. Having said that, when I read about third degree tears etc, I do start to wonder which is the best option. [if only I could see 5 months into the future emoticon!!! ]

well, i've been thinking of writing my birth plan. i had a 32 hour labour with DD, delivery was failed ventouse and then forceps. i tried every available method of pain relief (tens, gas & air, pethidine, epidural), so i know what i would like to use again this time. i'd really not want pethidine again, as that messed me up too much. i am not too keen on going in a birthing pool either. i think i'll just see how i go

welcome jenko!

laura, fil doing much better, hopefully will be out of hospital this week, thanks for asking

me 32
dh 33
ds1 3.7months

Yummymummy24 · 29/01/2006 23:55

my ds1 was the same luckily i had ds2!!! He'll get used to a girl. We pretended ds2 had bought ds1 a present out when he was born also did fake baby voice when he put his head to my tummy so they had a relationship before the birth. He thinks unborn ds3 or dd3 can talk too hee hee!!!!

diddle · 30/01/2006 08:13

Hello Ladies - well i've been wondering whether to have a water birth, has anyone else ever had one?
Welcome to any newbies i've missed and congrats.

Feeling ok at the moment, apart from i have a nasty cold, which is sapping all of my energy, feel so tired and achy becaus eof it, but can't take anything, and i don't want to start taking paracetemol. So i'm drinking my orange juice and stocking up on tissues.

Baby is kicking away, although nto strong enough for DH to feel yet.
I was told where my placenta was lying at my midwife appointment last week, mine is a the front too, although its not making my bump any smaller, its getting bigger and bigger, have had to adjust my trousers twice in the last week.
We've got the wallpaper this weekend for the nursery, need to start getting organised.

vbab78 · 30/01/2006 08:40

diddle - sorry to hear about your cold. I've started with one over the weekend too. I might be asleep at my desk by lunch!

Feeling very sorry for myself. Probably making it worse.

bubbly1973 · 30/01/2006 09:53

yummymummy does your ds's mind if its a brother or sister this time around?...my ds is speaking to bump and saying all about what he will do when baby is born and he has even said he will be a really good brother (he is 3years7mths) BUT this is because he is convinced its a boy

diddle i didnt have a water birth however for pain relief i went in the water and i have to say its the best relief ever, so lovely, however has the pain got stronger even that didnt do it!...pethadine it was! even though i was adamant i wouldnt take it cos it crosses through placenta, but in the end i had to have it and it was bloomin great!!

LilacBump · 30/01/2006 19:54

hi girls, i saw the midwife today. my blood pressure is still quite high, but she wasn't too worried about it. i also finally got my downs risk number: 1 in 1900! and the spina bifida risk was low too. still no sign of another urine infection, so that's great. i've also got my appointments for the anti-d injections at 28 and 34 weeks (which sounds like ages away, but it's not really!).

on both my scans they noticed a simple ovarian cyst. i was told it was quite normal and harmless. does anyone know more about this or have this too?

oh and my placenta is at the front too, but not covering the cervix.

diddle, i hope your cold isn't wearing you down too much and that you'll feel better soon.

juice, good luck with your scan tomorrow!

BABY2 · 30/01/2006 20:13

lilacbump- I have been told i need anti-d and midwife has sent a referal to the hospital, i am pg with second baby. when i went for booking the midwife told me i would go to hospital for the morning at 28 weeks and go on a drip,- the midwife today said i will go for blood taken and then have a injection. Do you know exactley what you will be getting?

bubbly1973 · 31/01/2006 06:54

last night i found fresh stretchmarks

what are you lot using to reduce them?

diddle · 31/01/2006 07:16

bubbly - i have stretch marks too, but only on my boobs, very odd, i hate them though!!! I have been using The Sanctuary mum to be cream, and my mom (who has no strecthmarks, and never has) suggested baby oil, she used it all through her pregnancies, and it worked a treat. so i'm using that too.

Cold is getting worse, hardly slept last night, and now because i have been breathing through my mouth so much i have a sore throat too.
Just wanted to check with you all that this won't effect baby, it wont will it? i just need to keep an eye on my temperature, right?

Laura032004 · 31/01/2006 08:15

My ds is fond of talking to the baby too, but I'm not sure he really understands. Maybe once it kicks him back! He's too young to express a preference sex wise, but he plays well with boys and girls, so hopefully it won't be too much of an issue.

Cold here too I think I've caught it from DS. He only goes to nursery one day a week, so seems to catch everything going.

LilacBump - glad to hear the BP was OK, and that the test results came back as low. I'm rhesus negative too, but I've decided not to have the anti d during pg. Hearing that the injection hurts did sway my decision . I didn't have it last pg (they didn't do it routinely where I used to live), and ds was rhesus negative too (although dh isn't, so that is quite unusual), so I didn't have to have it after the birth either. I've had no bleeding during the pg, so hopefully I'll be OK, and apparently you've got 48hrs or so?? after any bleeding to get the jab.

BABY2 - I was told that the anti d would just be a jab in my bum at routine antenatal appts.

bubbly1973 - I've got the avent mother-to-be & body shop nut dry oil sprays. Not convinced they make any difference for stretch marks, but they help with dry skin, and were lovely at the end of my last pg for itchy bump! Last pg I had one tiny stretch mark on my due date, well underneath my bikini line. DS was over two weeks late, and by then it was a different story, and I'm covered! Also, they're about three cm higher on one side than the other as he laid on one side all the time!

Dont worry Diddle, i read an article in a baby magazine which said the placenta stops colds, flu etc being passed on to the baby. The only things it cant stop being passed through is cigarette smoke and alchohol so baby will be fine. Just take paracetemol for any pain and to keep your temp down.

Hope you feel better soon {hugs}

abbey1515 · 31/01/2006 08:35

Lilacbump, glad results look good!
Diddle, just also make sure you drink plenty of fluids as its so easy to get dehydrated and take good care of yourself!

Laura032004 · 31/01/2006 10:07

Diddle - ladyschaefer & LilacBump are completely right, the cold won't harm the baby. The only thing that will is if you have a high temp or get dehydrated, so keep up with the paracetamol & drinks.

I don't know about anybody else, but I really miss all the cold & flu medications you can take. I've been off them since June 2003 (have been pg or bf ever since!). However, on a search for a Lemsip alternative I found Boots cold & flu hot lemon drink. It only contains paracetamol and vit c (and my mum tells me that I may as well take some paracetamol and a vit c tablet), but they feel really comforting when I feel full of cold.

Hope you feel better soon Diddle

vbab78 · 31/01/2006 10:39

hi everyone. my cold symptoms seem to vary from bad to I'm feeling ok. not taken anything for it just trying to have fluids. Been having hot blackcurrant cordial.

Stretch marks ... none yet but it is my first baby. Been using Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Massage Cream for Stretch Marks on areas that might get affected and Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Lotion on the rest of my body.

abbey1515 · 31/01/2006 11:08

I love hot vimto - that's always really comforting when you have a cold!
No stretch marks either,my biggest trouble is getting maternity bras (have gone to an E cup!) The ones I have bought come virtually up to my neck, so can't wear any of my usual tops with them. The material is also really scratchy and hard. The nice Elle Macpherson ones stop at D cup. Any ideas?

vbab78 · 31/01/2006 11:27

abbey1515 - I've bought my maternity bra's from marks and spencer's about 3 months ago and I still feel fine in them, just fuller, they are D cup. Before pregnancy I was a D/DD depending on the bra.

U could see if they have any?

diddle · 31/01/2006 12:13

I ended up buying from Debenhams, who had a very small selection, only one that they showed me was officially a mternity bra, the rst were just non-wired. I have gained size round my body but apparenlty not in cup size, even thoguht they now look and feel huge, i am now a full B almost C, feel like they're D already. plenty of time for them to get even bigger too.

Laura032004 · 31/01/2006 12:34

I love the Figleaves website for maternity and nursing bras

slinkstah · 31/01/2006 12:54

bubbly - i am stretch mark queen, i have boobs and tum covered in them, i blame my ds who's 8 now. i have no new ones, although do not think there is any room for new ones to appear, unless you can get stretch marks inside stretch marks lol

diddle- aw hun, didn't know you had a cold, hope your feeling better soon.

i got my maternity bra from m&s too, still a blimin B though!

hi to everyone else, sorry for being unsociable for a while, i will become more talkative soon
20 week scan today so i am off to see babbee in a mo

LilacBump · 31/01/2006 13:11

i have loads of stretch marks on my tummy, arms and boobs from when i was pregnant with DD. most came the week after my due date passed as i suddenly became huge. and the ones on my boobs are from when the milk came in after a few days and my breasts went from big to absolutely enormous. i don't think i have got any more yet this time. i have been using of that palmer cream, but i don't think it'll help much.

in regards to the anti-d, DD is A positive. i got an injection after her birth. i haven't had any bleeding so far and the blood test to check the anti-bodies came back ok. i am hating all these bloods being taken and other needle related things.

Laura032004 · 31/01/2006 13:43

Hope the scan goes well slinkstah

Slinkstah, hope scan goes well

Re. bras, have one from Debenhams, which is just enormous, and ordered a couple from a catalogue, which are really hard. The problem is that I have this skin condition which makes my skin blister with any friction, so I really need something really soft- do you think sports bras would be ok?
