To be truthful lilacbump its only the 3rd time i've seen here & i'm now 21weeks!!! considering i'm supposed to be a high(ish) risk preg she's lousy thankgod i'm also under a consultant at the hospital. I'm very lucky in the fact i have a good friend who is a midwife with 5 kids of her own - i can call her anytime about anything.

bubbly1973 · 25/01/2006 20:00

what do the consultants do that the midwives dont? im under a consultant this time round, but if they do exactly the same thing as a midwife id rather cancel my appt in march

my father in law had a mild heartattack early this morning i couldnt stop thinking how if things were really bad how would my little boy and all his other grandchildren cope, he is so so close to them all, im so glad that it was a mild one, a wake up call so gives him another chance in life, he is in hospital right now, i cant wait to see him

when do you all feel the baby kick the most, mine kicks me about 10pm usually when im about to relax, its lovely, i read somewhere on one of the baby sites that the baby sleeps for about 20hours..wow.thats a long time! but then i suppose i would sleep that long if i was bored with no tele!

bubbly1973 · 25/01/2006 20:01

oh and im sure if my dh put his hand on my belly at the right time he would feel it kick, but baby gets shy the moment dh puts his hand there!!

and i cant make baby perform on request

usandbump · 25/01/2006 20:39

Hello all June ladies!
I am from July thread due 03/07, i just popped over to ask a quick question (hope you don't mind)
Could you please tell me when you started to feel your baby move and what it felt like? I am 17+4 and waiting for movement! This is my first pregnancy.

bubbly1973 · 25/01/2006 20:43

it all depends, on my first pregnant i didnt feel baby move until i was about 22 weeks, however on this pregnancy (2nd pregnancy) i felt baby move at about 16and half weeks, felt like flutters,

i had been on the floor wrapping parcels for about 2 hours and when i got up i felt for first time those wonderful flutters.

since this is your first you may not feel baby move, but on saying that many women have swore that they felt it move at that stage on 1st pregnancy...why do you ask? do u feel the baby move?

usandbump · 25/01/2006 21:07

Hi Bubbly I did think so but now think I was just over excited! This didn't worry me until someone else mentioned it then I started worrying that I should be feeling something! I think I just worry too much, I have my scan in 2 weeks I think I will relax more after that.
Thank you for your answer it has reassured me and I shall sleep better now

Dana · 26/01/2006 11:48

Trinity - so sorry to hear about your relationship problems. I hope there is still a chance that you can work it out. Have you had a good chat about it all?

Diddle and lilsbabies - sorry to hear about both of your losses. Pregnancy is emotional enough as it is. Diddle, good that your granddad got to know about the baby before he passed away.

Bugs, vbab, Abbey and waswondering - glad to see you scans went well. But sorry to hear about your midwife Bugs, she doesn't sound very warm or supporting....

vbab - Last time I started maternity leave 2 weeks before due date, but DS was 11 days late, so ended up with nearly 4 weeks. This time I get 4 weeks paid before my due date and if I am late it won't affect the amount of paid leave I get after. I feel very lucky!! How long are you all planning to take after the birth?

I feel the baby kicking a lot and DH has also been able to feel it for a week or so. I am 20 weeks. But my placenta is lying against my back so baby has got free access to kick my tummy!

Usandbump - in my first pregnancy I felt movement quite late, I think about 21 weeks, so don't worry

vbab78 · 26/01/2006 12:41

Dana - I'm considering having a full year off or as long as we can afford. Me and DH are saving like mad so we can do it and I'm also trying to save my hols because I will get paid for them.

I've been told by another lady who left work on maternity leave recently that:

  • I can have up to a year off (need to tell employer worst case)
  • 6 weeks 90% pay. 20 weeks £106 per week (before tax + NI). 26 weeks no pay.
  • Any holidays I have left I can be paid for (entitled to approx 20 at time I leave)
  • I can return to work at any time (within a year) I just need to give a month's notice.

I will obviously double check all this with payroll before I tell my employer my final decision.

BABY2 · 26/01/2006 13:29

vbab78- thats what i did when i havd DS, and i also was entiteled to holidays while on unpaid leave too . unfortunatly i did not return to work as i couldent get DS into nursery,, he is still on the waiting lists now for my 4 local nurserys and he is now 2, he has had his name down since 2 days after he was born.

Yummymummy24 · 26/01/2006 20:46

Hello ladies sorry for not posting for ages been really busy. Hope you are all well and blooming nicely. I'm feeling good few kicks start at 11pm same as lastds so expecting night birth again. Hey there bugs sounds like you might have sacro illiac problems. Its painful in your hips and lower back its a bit like symphisis pubis if youve heard of it. Just a different joint affected. I've got it well bad maybe looking at hospital towards end. Got it with ds2 (8MNTH OLD NOW) aswell. Apart from that i'm all good got scan on monday going to tenerife on tuesday so fab week ahead, big smiles to all june mums to be hoorah for us

vbab78 · 26/01/2006 21:25

baby2 - not even thought about waiting lists for nurseries . Should look into it even if it won't be for over a year.

thanks.

diddle · 27/01/2006 10:46

MOst nurseries won't accept you onto the waiting list though until you're child has been born. So be aware of this.

LilacBump · 27/01/2006 18:06

welcome jenko!!!

i had my 21 week scan today! it's a BOY!!! i can't believe it. we're so happy! we've now choosen for his name to be ethan thomas smet singleton. quite a mouthful all was perfect with the baby. all the measurements were spot on again. definitely saw that it was a boy. only my blood pressure was really high and there's a worry there. i had to have full bloods done and will see my midwife on monday to have my blood pressure checked again.

abbey1515 · 27/01/2006 21:35

Congratulations, Lilacbump! That's a lovely name too! Gladthe scan went ok.
Hope the blood pressure ok, take good care of yourself xxx

Welcome, Jenko, and congratulations!

BABY2 · 27/01/2006 22:00

HELLO jenko.

lilacbump- so glad your scan went well,we are having a boy too, but can-not think of a name we both agree on at all.

mrsbabookaloo · 27/01/2006 23:13

Welcome Jenko!
Dana - I'm intrigued to know how you know where your placenta is - do they tell you at the scan? Through the whole pregnancy I've felt so ignorant of the geography of my womb! And at the scan she focussed in on all the different parts of the baby, but I didn't get a clear overview of how the baby was lying, and where the placenta and the cord were...does everybody else know where theirs is?
A few people were asking about feeling the baby move: this is my first, so I didn't expect to feel it early, but I figured out a couple of weeks ago (at about 19 weeks?) that those bubbly feelings were the baby moving and dh even felt it through my tummy! V exciting.
Lilacbump: we're going away to Tunisia at the end of Feb when I will be 26 weeks pregnant: just for a long weekend to see my sister who is living there.
Hope all are feeling well.

ladyschaefer · 28/01/2006 11:14

Hi everyone, i had my scan on thursday everything is ok but they couldnt tell me what i was having! Not to worry i have another scan at 32 weeks, just a precaution as my dd was small for dates.

They usually do tell you at the scan where your placenta is because they have to make sure its not lying across your cervix. Mine is at the front same as it was last time which was probably why i had a small bump as my dd was pushed right back.

Hope everyone is doing well, im still really tired at the moment, not to mention all the aches and pains. Never mind its all for a good cause

juice · 28/01/2006 13:22

hi all june to be mummies, hope you all well.
i am 20 + 3 now. so half way there. wahay. still feels like ages to go though.
had my 20 week scan on tuesday, everything is in right place and baby is well.
dont know the sex, want a surprise, but do feel its a boy. can not find any names yet. been looking on loads of sites, but me and dh cant seem to agree. i like a couple but dh not sure.
my dd is always pulling up my jumper and patting my tummy and saying baby and then giving 'him' a kiss. so cute.

hope you all well

Laura032004 · 28/01/2006 13:28

trinity1 - sorry to hear about your relationship problems

Congratulations to everyone that has had their scans this week. I've finally got a date for mine - 16th February, so only another 2+ weeks to wait!

bubbly1973 - how is your FIL now?

LilacBump - glad the scan went well, sorry to hear about the high BP. Hope it looks better on Monday.

We're (well, me and ds!) are going on holiday at the start of March. I'll be about 24 weeks then. We're only going to stay with my parents, but they're out in Cyprus, so it's still a bit of a hike! That's about the latest I want to fly (would probably go a couple of weeks later, but then the prices shoot up for Easter), so I won't be able to get out again until after the baby is born. I'm hoping (through rose tinted glasses that having two will be easy!) to go again in September for a month or so.

I had my consultant appt this week, so it's all systems go for a VBAC. I also raised the idea of a home birth, and he seemed OK about it. I think I'll leave the final decision right until the end, as I had pre-eclampsia last time, so I could end up in hospital again anyway.

I'm really tired at the moment. I've been in bed by 8 most nights this week. Luckily DH doesn't seem to mind, and I get up in the morning with all the jobs having been done, so the rest is nice! I've just got a weeks worth of washing to get done this w/e!

hi laura, i am going for a vbac too, although they wouldnt really let me have a home birth as hospital is hour and half away. i am prepared for having to go into theatre again though even though i really dont want to.
good luck

abbey1515 · 29/01/2006 18:14

Hi, sorry if this sounds silly, but what is a vbac?

i was wondering what a vbac was is sounds like some sort of waxing!!!! Got my 20wk scan tomorrow mega excited also going tenerife on tuesday so xpect blood pressure will be sky high!! So is this your first vb? All i will say is if youre having a bwpr (i made that up it means birth without pain relief!!!!!!!) be prepared for the crowning. I had epidural with ds1 then just gas with ds2. Thought contraction were bad until i felt the crowning bit. Its a killer
