Hopefully no one else has done it while my phone is messing about!

Thanks sho I'm 5 11 so I can't use that one! Grin

addicted that's not good Sad My hypnobirthing lady said that often if you are stressed like that your body will know and will hopefully wait for DH to get back.

There is a position called the polar bear position which is supposed to slow things down if you need to. It's on all fours but with your arms folded right down so your head is nearly in the floor.

Worst case scenario what happens if you turn up at the hospital with DD?

miamamaClaus09 · 08/12/2011 13:50

oh no addicted hang in there! just tell DD that you are having a snuggle day tomorrow and both of you stay on the sofa! no carrying or rushing around! get the dvds out and have a nap together. hopefully, before you know it, DH will be back home should anything happen

JingleFryn · 08/12/2011 13:59

addicted - I'm sure one of your friends would step in if needed to look after DD. Ear infections aren't contagious, so she'd be miserable, but at least she wouldn't be spreading it! Anyway, hopefully it won't come to that - a snuggle day sounds like an excellent plan.

fish you're making me want to wipe the dust off our coffee maker and get frothing!

rednosedreindeerhead · 08/12/2011 14:06

parsley and ghost where is the 'engaged' part in your notes? my doula was suprised i hadn't been seen since 27 weeks (now 33 with an appt next week) so does that mean i haven't been told yet? I found the bit where it says 'ceph' but...

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 08/12/2011 14:12

It's next to that bit red it says decent of pp.

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 08/12/2011 14:12

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 08/12/2011 14:12

addicted - Parsley makes a good point - a body producing adrenaline won't go into established labour as easily, so make yourself cold, scared, stressed - whatever gets your heart rate up and pray it holds off long enough for your DH to get home. Worst comes to worst you have to take DD to the hospital with you - I'm sure they'll have a contingency plan for that sort of thing - best of luck!

35 weeks today and not in the slightest bit engaged. It had better be engaged by Xmas - I've been looking forward to the bingeing.

Oh, and note to those who are interested - Coffee Republic do the yummiest iced cinnamon whirl bun thing - delish!

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 08/12/2011 14:14

Ps you should have been seen at 31 wks if your first. They've missed an appt out.

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 08/12/2011 14:20

yeah, GP appt I think...

Crosshair · 08/12/2011 14:26

Hope things calm down for you addicted.

I think he's starting to try to engage, sometimes it feels like he's going to fall out!

Had my last midwife appointment at 35 weeks and I dont have another till the 5th of jan thats if the baby doesnt come by my due date. Confused

I really want a hot chocolate now. Xmas Smile

FrillyMilly · 08/12/2011 14:27

Midwife told me not to worry about my funny turn unless it keeps happening. She said I need to eat more, drink more and rest. Got my 34 week appt tomorrow so will check blood pressure etc. Mine is normally on the low side anyway.

Dd didn't engage until labour!! I'm short too so had feet in the ribs right until the end.

Is that true about not labouring if you are producing adrenaline? Does that mean when women on tv shows go in to spontaneous (and very quick) labour when shocked it's just made up for tv?

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 08/12/2011 14:33

It makes labouring more difficult frilly it doesn't necessarily stop it though. If baby decides it's coming for definite not much will stop it.

I've never heard of a real life spontaneous labour so I'm not sure.

rednosedreindeerhead · 08/12/2011 14:39

i've missed an appointment??? oh shite! i feel fine though so hopefully it doesn't matter. I've got a midwife appt on Monday, that was the only one they gave me and told me about at 27 wks!! Angry

i thought it seemed like you guys had been seen more than me, thought i was being paranoid!

also i don't have the descent/presentation bit on my notes Sad maybe I'll ask them about that on monday....

GhosteditorOfChristmasPast · 08/12/2011 14:45

Addicted, poor you - have a Brew. I've also been reliably informed that adrenalin inhibits latent and first stage labour (in case cave women needed to run away from woolly mammoth Grin) so that suggestion may work. It speeds up second stage though.

Also have been told that the position parsley mentioned is great for slowing down labour if needed - with your bum up in the air the baby has to work against gravity.

I am on my way to my third NCT class, women only! Wonder what secrets will be revealed... Wink and I'm off work tomorrow and have Monday off too, so yey! Even If I have shed loads to achieve... DH has just been told he has to work this weekend, nicely jinxing all our plans, so now I have to entertain our friends all on my own, and the bloody painting still won't be achieved Angry.

Mum2be79 · 08/12/2011 14:48

OMG! Yorkshire's beginning to be battered by the wind. We've lost a few ridge tiles on our 'old' roof of the main house which came down on the new roof (only been built 4 weeks!) above our sitting room, on top of the solar panels. Luckily, they're not damaged (or so it seems). Went round the back and other side of the house to find the very large willow tree missing a huge limb. It's lying beside our greenhouse and it means we can't get all the way round the house. How it didn't smash a few windows I do not know!! There's also branches and twigs 'gluing' themselves to our kitchen and family room window. My mum is driving down the A19/A1079 at the moment and DH is due back just at the peak of the storm.
Hopefully no roads blocked tomorrow as have a 9:05am scan.

acid reflux I had heard before that acid 'means' a full head of hair. But my mum suffered with it chronically when she was pregnant with me and I was born with blonde fluff - not really hair! Although some people say 'girl'. It's just an old wives tale. But I'm definitely 50/50 on the sex. Dh thinks its a boy. If not, then we'll have to change the name on the flight tickets for August 2012 with Jet2 from William to Charlotte. Luckily it says on their website AND we rang to check that with infants under 2, name changes are free of charge. We did explain that baby wasn't born and was only at 25 weeks gestation when we booked (flight offer too good to turn down!).

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 08/12/2011 14:50

red the 31 wk is just for first timers My MW nearly forgot mine and booked me straight from 28 to 34 wks. I'm having a few extra appts due to high risk stuff - so I'd ignore my schedule entirely!

According to the purple nhs book we should be seen at 34 ,36, 40 (first timers only) and 41 wks.

addictediam · 08/12/2011 14:56

I've been doing the polar bear thing without knowing it! It's comfortable and eases the pain! It's good to know about the adriniline thing. I now have some lovley friends who are going to come round tomorrow just in case. I put dd to bed, repacked my hospital bag, had a massive hormonal crying fit Xmas Blush and now am feeling much better! Xmas Grin

Mum2be that sounds really scarey.

OP posts:
ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 08/12/2011 14:59

Shock mum2be stay safe and snug indoors. The wind is getting up a bit down south but nothing like you guys are expecting!

Re acid reflux - my OH reckons the girl bit might come from the fact that girls are supposed to be carried all "out front" which means that they are more likely to crush the relevant bits. He also says that is rubbish because his 2nd DS with his ex was carried that way. She did have heartburn but had a boy. I am carrying out front and have heartburn so I am supporting his theory with his experience of 3Grin

rednosedreindeerhead · 08/12/2011 15:13

people keep telling me that mines all out in front because it's a boy!! (which it is) - everyone seems to have the same theories for both sexes! madness.

mum2be scary wind!!! it's windy here too but nothing like that. stay safe

FrillyMilly · 08/12/2011 15:19

I've had two similar pregnancies. Very bad sickness, average weight gain, weight gain all bump and acid reflux. First was a girl, this ones a boy. Both times when I've told people what I'm having they've said I knew cos of sickness/heartburn/way you are carrying!!

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 08/12/2011 15:40

You forgot the carrying high/low part as well frilly I'm carrying low so I must be having a girl - which I am. However I think I just look like I'm carrying low as i'm tall.

Oh and "girls steal your beauty" I was told but everybody keeps telling me how blooming and well I look. I didn't like that one so I'm glad it was a nonsense

greenlady78 · 08/12/2011 15:56

Thanks ladies for the breastfeeding/'boobies' tips Xmas Grin

addicted great to hear that you are feeling better and that you have some friends coming around!!! I worry actually as I have no family in London and also most of my friends moved out of London and if I have an emergency I will be buggered! The other day we needed to get rid of a sofa in the house and my DH almost ended up carrying it out (we live on the 2nd floor, no lift) alone!!!

Luckily a neighbours and friend came along to help...but he is also moving out of London in Feb!!! Xmas Sad

I'm knackered, went to bed at 1am for no reason, woke up at usual 2.30am for loo, could sleep till 5am, woke up at 6.30am....argh!

mum2be the description of your house and garden are lovely! Even with the scary wind it sounds perfect Xmas Smile

DH is on his way to Argos to collect new ironing board, iron, britta filter, cartridges...all on foot and it is a blustery day out there! Poor DH!!! And with my rubbish foot I can't walk so can't help him at all...

Just hope he can keep a good mood....eek!

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 08/12/2011 16:04

I heard that if breasts are too engorged to feed it can help to get in a warm shower, direct the water jet onto your breasts and think about your baby crying - apparently it can cause a decent enough let down that your boobs will soften and you can feed more successfully.

MN is a mine of useful info!

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 08/12/2011 16:27

quick straw poll re a convo I was having with my best mate:

LInea negra-that line down your belly. If you know what team you are can you tell me if you have one or no?

in my case DD=linea negra and DS= No linea

and it's the same for two of my freinds.

So I was wondering if there was a trend?

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 08/12/2011 16:27
