Greenlady, the hormones of actually giving birth change your breasts right at the end. They will get hard, but only when there is milk present. I wouldnt worry too much as so much can change between now and when lo arrives

Morning Ladies
A 3am update from you addicted ................not still having pains are you?

I am getting used to a sleep pattern of awaking at 230am and laying there tossing and turning until half 4 before getting up. By half 6 I am ready for sleeping again but cant as need to see the kids off to school. I wouldn't mind but the baby is fast asleep! I just dont feel tired at all!! May as well kill some time of bejewelled (fb)....

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 08/12/2011 07:14

I seem to be constantly waking about 2.30 also worm but luckily I also seem to have got into the habit of changing to the spare bed and falling back to sleep again after about an hour. I'm just hoping I can keep that going as I've already had a phase of the 3ams and it hurts after a bit.

addictediam · 08/12/2011 07:49

Worm yes still having pains, but getting used to them now so its almost un noticeable. Have to ring triage 2xday if I want to stay at home.

Morning ladies!

My sleep pattern seems to be 'settled' now as sleep at half 10/11, wake at 5/half 5, feel sleepy sometime after lunch (normally when i have something to do should be going out!). Oh well, as someone said - good practice for when baby gets here!

MumTobe79 - hope you feel better soon.

Interesting to hear of your shopping troubles wombat. The problem I have is there's almost too much choice here - v confusing but i guess a 'nicer' problem to have. Hope your DH and DS feel better soon (without the germs spreading any further!).

This is the cot bed we've ordered - should be here on monday. Would have liked to get a proper bedside cot too for the early days but can't really afford one and our bed also doesn't have a frame to attach it to.

Still can't get used to being on maternity leave - I feel like I'm skiving or something! Xmas Grin Am starting to feel nice and festive though.

FrillyMilly · 08/12/2011 09:20

It takes me a while to get comfy. Go to bed around ten, have a wake up for a wee sometime in the night then up for the day around 6-630 when DH and DD get up. Looking after a 3 year old who no longer naps in the day means I'm too tired for night time waking. How am I going to manage when baby means I have to wake up at night.

Just had a bit of a funny turn (sounds like something my gran would say but dont know how to describe it). Just got back from a small supermarket shop. Put shopping away and started to feel a bit dizzy and light headed. Sat down and my chest went really tight and my it felt like my heart was beating really strong. Is this normal? I've never fainted before and wonder if I was close to that?

SantaSHO · 08/12/2011 09:24

The only thing iv heard acid reflux/heartburn predicting is a lot of hair on the babys head.

We are on Red Alert with most schools in the country either closed or closing at 12, as is alot of businesses and public transport due to galeforce(predicted up to 80mph in some parts) winds due to make the most damage this afternoon.
Lazy day in the house for us today! Which is actually a relief as im struggling to walk today due to a sharp pain in my lower pelvis.

Went to my local tk maxx yesterday to check ouut the slings. That branch normally has lots but didnt have a single one. Ah well.

Dp is currently building the new interior to the kids wardrobe! YEAH!! Only been nagging him for weeks!

Happy windy Thursday peeps!

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 08/12/2011 09:25

Morning girls,

whats a rushed morning I have had-suddenly remembered late last night I have freinds coming for coffee and my weight management lady from the NHS is coming after. CUe mad dash to supermarket this morning before school because we had no loo roll or milk! Could have done without that.

greenlady the cot we have doesn't attach to your bed-the feet are non slip locking casters so it doesn't go anywhere. I used to put an extra blanket tucked in under both our and DD's mattress just for peace of mind. She never fell out though-and you can also put the side up all the way, half way or just a few inches if you want. Don't worry about your boobies too, they will go hard 2-3 days after birth in the space of a couple of hours and your husband will be delighted! My dh's response that day in hospital "morning Jordan-milks in then?" Good job I love that man or slaps would have been issued. I found, and I know a lot of other women have found that that first milk day is a very weepy day-the baby blues day. I cried all bloody day pretty much. Looking back though I remember it being a good release.

mum2b i totally refute any connection with reflux having anything to do with sex of baby-utter rubbish your doc is spouting. :) I didn't have had a jot of reflux with DD until I was 42 weeks pregnant and long overdue. This boychild has given me acid since about week 20! Was the BF'ing at antenatal the one where you put your head back to suck the yogurt and then down to tell the difference between the correct and incorrect latch? I have done that with teen parents before-very clever!

Thinking of you addicted

have a good day all xxx

SantaSHO · 08/12/2011 09:29

I hear you with the 3yo that doesnt nap anymore but still gets up during the night frilly
From what I know dizzy spells are common in the 1st and 3rd trimesters due to the extra blood pumping around. You maybe just over done it a bit. Drink plenty of fluids, keep up to date with your food intake and rest as much as possible. From what you said about how you felt I would call the mw or gp just for reassurance. Rest up x

JingleFryn · 08/12/2011 10:20

Morning all!

fish - I was a mess on day 3 too! My parents had come up and I spent most of the day crying in the bedroom - standard baby blues though. Absolutely fine next day!

Re boobs - when your milk does come in, if you're having problems with baby latching on (I did!) it can make it even harder for them to latch as your boobs really will be enormous and solid, so it's not a bad idea to have a breast pump to hand just to syphon off a bit of the milk and reduce their size a bit!

frilly and sho DD has taken to pottering into our room somewhere between 1 and 5 every night - too exhausted to put her back in her room (rod and own back, spring to mind) so by the time the baby arrives we'll be 4 in our bed, if DC2 is as bad a sleeper as DD! Suspect DH may have to move out onto the sofa. Or into DD's toddler bed. now that would be worth seeing.

Rats - I appear to have a meeting. So Xmas Envy of you mat leave ladies!

FrillyMilly · 08/12/2011 10:26

I've left a message for one of the community midwives to call me back about dizzy spell.

When DD wanders in it's usually for a wee, or a drink or she's lost her Teddy or (last nights) her cover was twisted. I deal with it half asleep, put her back in bed and go back to sleep. She is quite good at going back to her bed. She snores so she's not coming in with us!!

rednosedreindeerhead · 08/12/2011 10:33

hello all, hope you're all ok this morning.

we had our first official meeting with our doula last night, and it was really interesting. talked loads about where I might now have to give birth or if i should bother getting on the case and DEMANDING my home birth....

had to do a stream of conciousness exercise as well which nearly made me cry, and loads of talking about why i was afraid of hospitals and things... very emotional!! thank god my OH is pretty hippy and mellow about all these things, I can imagine some blokes would have run screaming from the room! we've got our NCT starting on saturday as well so he'll have a full overdose! mind you i think he quite likes it all actually, makes him feel more involved. I can lend him out for cash if anyone wants a partner at their classes Grin you just have to make sure he washes his beard every now and then Hmm

anyway she also told me to buy a book that she normally lends to people but everyone ends up stealing because it's so good - The Food of Love, about breastfeeding successfully. I am so desperate to get it right I want all the info i can get. anyway she said this book was brilliant and a lot of it is in funny cartoons so that when you're knackered you can just look at the pictures Grin anyway it's on my xmas wishlist so if i get it I'll let you all know what it's like.

rednosedreindeerhead · 08/12/2011 10:45

oh and whoever suggested that berry cordial as a replacement for mulled wine, you are a GENIUS. it's delicious. I'm addicted to it. slightly worried about what it's doing to my teeth Grin

SantaSHO · 08/12/2011 10:51

I(dp works nightshift) normally put dd back in her bed. On a good night I just need to say to her and she goes back alright. But the fact that she woke me means I need to wee so she still gets tucked back in which makes her happier.
Although last night was the 3rd night in a row where she has just climbed in to my bed without even waking me up. Very hard to do as I need to turn regularly. Iv been so sore recently that its been easier just to leave her than getting out of bed

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 08/12/2011 11:49

Coffee morning done...too much coffee lol, I haven't had more than one or 2 cups of tea a day for ages but I decided to get my posh coffee machine out cos the girls were coming and it was so nice we had 3 cups. I have just cleaned the bathroom in about 10 minutes. whizzzzzzzzeeeeeeeee

:) Grin:)

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 08/12/2011 11:51

Morning all Smile just back from my extra MW appt to measure bump and my first diabetes clinic. Bump was still small but had grown 1cm so she was generally ok but decided to book a growth scan next week for the diabetes so I have one on Tuesday now anyway.

I found the GD clinic ok but in hindsight very confusing. I suppose I'll just have to do the blood testing after each meal and see how it goes Confused

The MW has put in the engaged part of my notes 3/5 LOA. I can't remember what the LOA bit means- anybody know? I'm assuming the 3/5 bit explains the extra pressure I've been feeling the last couple of days.

GhosteditorOfChristmasPast · 08/12/2011 11:54

Wow 3/5 engaged! Well on the way! LOA is something like left occiput anterior which is the optimum foetal position - mine is ROA which apparently slightly increases the risk of back to back labour (since apparently all babies spiral the same way into the cervix). At last check ppm wasn't engaged so there's still time to switch round Grin

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 08/12/2011 12:00

MW didn't seem concerned about the 3/5 - I'm only 32 +2. Presumably they can engage early without actually arriving (I hope) Wink

Either that or OH will be right. He's still convinced she's coming in December.

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 08/12/2011 12:02

Ps. Thanks ghost Smile I remembered that other people had already had similar bits on their notes so knew somebody would knowGrin

GhosteditorOfChristmasPast · 08/12/2011 12:05

Happy to share the wisdom Grin

Lots of first babies engage from about 34 weeks and apparently second babies often don't until much later. But I don't think there's a need for concern at all (except where people are 40+ weeks and not engaged!) if they're starting to get into position. Maybe it slightly increases the signs that you might not be a 40 weeker though Wink

addictediam · 08/12/2011 12:24

Sorry ladies just want to have a quick moan. Dd has an ear infection which is why shes been so out of it :( bump has decided she wants to come and twice now I've had to stop what im doing and wait for the contraction to end. Dh has to go to Birmingham tomorrow for a meeting he cant get out of, theres no parking so it will be a 30 minute drive to worcester, a 1.5 - 2hour train journey plus any waiting times for trains and a 10minute walk to get to where he needs to go. I'm freeking out as my mum is busy so can't come over for the day (and lives 80miles away) dd is ill and all of my friends have dc so cant ask anyone to come over as ear infections for little ones are the pits. I'm constantly on the verge of tears and dd wants to be carried everywhere. I just want to scream and run away from it all.

My moan over, as you were ladies. Fish what coffee maker do you have? I'm not a coffee drinker but dh would love one for real hot choc. Is it any good?

SantaSHO · 08/12/2011 12:33

Sorry to hear of your troubles addicted hopefully nothing will occur Fx

Engaged babies - my SIS inlaw is 5ft 1in and her baby well was engaged at 31weeks. She was convinced she would go early but actually went over. The mw told her it is common for shorter women to engage earlier.

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 08/12/2011 12:51

addicted I have sent you a pm xx

The coffee machine we have is only little it's a delonghi cafe treviso

it was only 40 from amazon last year though, special offer. It froths like a beauty, makes really nice coffee but the only cups that fit under the spout are expresso ones so if you want a cappucino you have to froth the milk in one cup, make the coffee in the other and then chuck it in. Thats the only ball ache with it.

abeautifulbutterfly · 08/12/2011 13:20

Gawd, you lot, I can't keep up with you all. Three days I haven't read the thread and it jsut took me an hour! All these women with maternity leave on their hands Grin

I haven't got enough hours in the day (so why the hell am I dallying on MN?) Getting tired a lot quicker now, about 2-3 pm is when it hits worst, unfortunately this is prime school-run/after-school club run time for me and the weather is getting steadily worse.

Addicted hang in there girl, poor you and DD...
Welcome crosshair!

Must go for school run.
Take care, y'all!
