Emblosion I have the white orchid dress. It's absolutely gorgeous. We've had to postpone the wedding so DP could have this new job. Meant to be getting married on the 17th Feb but he won't be here. We are going to try for getting married in April with just a few friends so I might get to wear it.

10000fireflies · 12/01/2012 07:57

Emblosion what a beautiful dress. Have you contacted Sottero and Midgley to see if they can alter it for you? Or try a local dressmaker? It would work beautifully with a bump.

Kayzr your dresses are gorgeous too. I hope you get to wear it in April.

Kayzr · 12/01/2012 08:20

Oh Emblosion I had to sell my Hollywood Dreams dress as I was pregnant. I was lucky and got it from eBay but it was £3000 new(hence from eBay). Now I'm thinking I could have kept it.

Bloody wedding dresses!! Grin

emblosion · 12/01/2012 09:27

Ooo kayzr your dress is lovely, hopefully you will get to wear it still, in April? Totally agree about bloody wedding dresses Wink never thought I would get fed up of them but I am!

fireflies I know, its lovely isn't it? Dressmaker in the shop reckons she could alter it to fit bump but I am not convinced it won't ruin the look of the dress and am worried about it being strapless with my now massive bust.... I'm going to go in, try the dress on and have a proper chat with her about it in the next couple of weeks....

Off to work now, have a good day all :)

Warlin · 12/01/2012 09:58

Morning all

It's a boy!! Sorry just a quick post as am in work but had to tell you....scan last night revealed a boy!

Was surprised as we both had thought it was a girl so had been thinking about girls names etc so it's taken a bit of getting used to but I'm so excited!! Think DH secretly very chuffed!! Just never imagined having a boy but it will be lovely!

Anyway will catch up on everyone's chat later. Hope you all ok x

Kveta · 12/01/2012 10:01

congratulations Warlin! boys are FAB! and just think, you are growing a penis inside you :o

(as are girls, I think, but I love my little boy, he's fantastic!)

just wanted to pop on and say good luck Kazyr with today's scan!

Hopefully I'll be on tomorrow and able to say what flavour my little one is!

thedogwalker · 12/01/2012 10:04

I love talk of weddings, I am sorry for you Kayzr, that you had to postpone your wedding, but just look at it from a positive side, it means you you get to be the 'bride to be' for longer. Enjoy it, I loved every minute of planning my wedding and more importantly my wedding day [big sigh, remembering it all fondly], I would love to plan it all again and being the bride to be is special, so enjoy yourself Smile.
Hope everyone is well today. I am feeling ravenous, could just eat and eat and eat Blush.

thedogwalker · 12/01/2012 10:06

Sorry Warlin x posted, that is wonderful news. My DS is fab, loves his cuddles and gives lovely soppy kisses and he's only 16 mo. Boys are brill. So happy for you Grin

Kayzr · 12/01/2012 10:25

Warlin that is brilliant!!! Grin boys are amazing!! Just get researching trains, planes and cars now Grin

Dalrymps · 12/01/2012 10:39

Morning ladiesSmile

Warlin Fab news! I have 2 boys and they are brilliantGrin

I am counting the days down to our 20 weeks scan now, next wed!Smile

Kveta · 12/01/2012 11:17

"Just get researching trains, planes and cars now"

and diggers and helicopters!! What is it about wheeled-vehicles and little boys?!

Kayzr · 12/01/2012 11:26

I have no idea Kveta. I blame my DP. Even though he isn't the boys dad they become more vehicle obsessed since we've been together. But he does work on ships and drive steam trains as a hobby in his spare time Grin

Kveta · 12/01/2012 11:30

my DH couldn't be much less interested in vehicles though, it's weird! DS got to go within 2 feet of a digger yesterday and was SO SO EXCITED! he dos love computers too though, and dogs, so it's not his only obsession, but still :o (btw was it you who was looking for a pilot to write to your DS? did you find one?)

Kayzr · 12/01/2012 11:32

Yeah that was me. I think I've found one. I really hope he gets a letter as he will be over the moon. He wants me to write to Richard Branson but I'm not sure about that one. Grin

millyv · 12/01/2012 12:48

Congrats Warlin that means we have 1 girl and 1 boy confirmed now doesn't it?! Exciting!

This thread is getting so busy!

I went for my 16 week appointment, the MW was a little rude - not the same one I'd seen before. Before I went in I heard her chatting to people in her office about how her next appointment was a 16 week check up and had no idea why I was coming - Because I was told to?!?! Which is exactly what I said to her when she asked me why I was there! Another lady (much younger girl) was lovely and took my blood pressure and gave me the little stick thing to pee on, she said I had traces of protein in my wee, she asked me if it stung when I went, I said no - to which the old bag replied well those sticks aren't the most reliable! So I have no idea what protein is doing in my wee or if it is a bad thing?!?!? I was pleased to get out of there! It took all of 2 minutes!

Hope everyone else is ahving a good day!

Xx

Warlin · 12/01/2012 13:11

Thanks All!

I'm def coming round to the idea! It feels strange that I know and it feels more like a baby now! The consultant gave us a close up picture of his wee willy! It's really clear :) DH is impressed by the size :)

Good luck with the scan today kazyr

milly pregnant women are more prone to uriniary tract infections which can be shown up by protein. Also pre-eclampsia later in pregnancy but only if levels get very high so they just keep an eye on protein levels. If you have no symptoms, it's prob fine. I had it once and it was gone the next time they checked.

thedogwalker · 12/01/2012 13:14

Wow Milly that doesn't sound like a positive experence at all. That mv was not very reassuring at all. Not sure about protein in your pee, you could google it, but don't scare yourself, if it was important then she would have done something. I would be mad as hell about the 'why you coming in at 16 weeks' comment and given her what for. She's there to reassure not be rude. Hope you have a better experience next time.

SpecialJK · 12/01/2012 14:00

millyv thats a bit rude of them. Isn't the 16 week appointment standard everywhere? she should have taken time to explain the wee thing too. I found this on babycentre which might help?

www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/complications/proteinurine/

If it was low level and no symptoms looks like they will monitor at next appointment

emblosion · 12/01/2012 14:12

Warlin congratulations - a little boy, how exciting! I think my DP would secretly like a boy but we've got to wait at least another couple of weeks to find out :) I've had a feeling that mines a girl, but obviously could be utterly wrong ;)

milly midwife does sound rude, I thought 16 week appointments were standard too? Mine is tomorrow, with community midwife have never met her before so no idea what to expect, apart from it being likely to be over very fast!

Florin · 12/01/2012 14:29

warlin congratulations on your little boy. So exciting! Very jealous of everyone finding out, I don't find out until 8 feb as appointment is a bit late due to our holiday. Counting down the days!
milly midwife very rude 16 week appointment is a standard one that everyone has.

Helssjbells · 12/01/2012 14:56

Wow, so much is going on here!

Warlin - what lovely news! How exciting, you must be delighted, it certainly makes the pregnancy seem more real I bet.

Milly - I didn't have a 16 week appt (I had 14) but whatever the reason for you being there MW's should always be supportive and reassuring. We're all going through alot of change and need all the help we can get - not rudeness.

My gout is getting better, though I think I need to go back to work. Mentally being at home with my leg up and packed in ice is not doing me any good. I got completely paranoid yesterday that gout was a symptom of the baby not having any kidneys (?) and generally I just feel more worried that something's going to be very wrong at the 20 week scan (3 weeks to go) or that I may just lose the baby. I think at least if I go back to work my mind would be taken off such negative thoughts. I don't think it's helped by the fact that I don't really look pregnant, more podgy and I haven't felt any kicks...does anyone else feel the same?

Big waves to all, sorry for moaning.

emblosion · 12/01/2012 15:27

Hels glad gout a bit better, thought I would express solidarity as I am a massive worrier too & feel the same (podgy and no movement yet) haven't thought of a solution other than to try
to tell myself that my body must know what its doing? (hopefully)..... What date is your scan? Mine is 8th Feb, seems like ages away!

exBrightonBell · 12/01/2012 17:35

I also feel exactly the same way too. My scan is on the 7th Feb, but it just seems a million miles away at the mo Sad

ceeej · 12/01/2012 17:59

Wow, thread is crazy busy, Helss do try not to worry I'm another one feeling podgy with no movement, sure we will see/feel a change soon, the book I have says first timers often don't feel anything until after 20 weeks.

I have to have a glucose tolerance test tomorrow morning because I have PCOS and apparently am much more likely to get gestational diabetes. Not allowed to eat after 8:30pm and have to get into central london for 8:30am which is going to be pretty painful.

On the positive side I am on the last chapter of my thesis and am planning to hand in on 29th February. My supervisor still clearly thinks I'm making a massive mistake by having a baby but she has stopped being quite so defeatist about getting the PhD finished.

10000fireflies · 12/01/2012 18:58

Warlin great to hear you're having a little boy. And so many lovely and enthusiastic comments about what little boys are like. Looking at my immediate family, chances are this LO will be a boy, so I am bracing myself for some close up pics of his tackle!!!

Milly what's up with your MW? She doesn't sound v nice.

Hels good you are recovering from gout. I'm sure your baby is fine. I'm sure there's a greater chance of having a well baby than not, otherwise people wouldn't keep having them!! I haven't really felt any movement either. The closest I get to that is a weird grumbly feeling from time to time, and I don't know if that is the baby moving or something else.

Ceeej Hope your starvation and tests tomorrow go ok. What's wrong with your PhD supervisor? Is she jealous?

I am feeling lovely and comfy in a new pair of Next leggings. Such bliss! V glamorous - they start just under the bust!! I got a pair of New Look jeans on the way home too - bargain at £15. I was Shock to see the Mothercare jeans are £60! Ouch! I checked out the swimmies in MC and they were fairly dire, unless you want to stick with plain black.

DH settling down to play Revelations so I am going to treat myself to watching last nights OBEM. I see from the thread on it that it was a particular tear jerker. Might also treat myself to watching 'How to be a Good Mother' as the comments on that thread are also pretty Shock.

Waves and hugs to all.
