There we go, a nice new thread.

worm certainly don't feel guilty about the ELCS or if BF doesn't work out, and if someone wishes to criticise, point me at 'em. I've got some nice sharp pointy sticks that I can utilise.

I've been weighing myself once a week, twice if the reading seems wildly off and I've been bunged up or it seems very under etc. I still haven't gained. Me and DH are trying not to be concerend. MW isn't at all worried and Mum is overjoyed, though is 100% sure I'll pile on weight still. "Well there's still plenty of time to go, plus breast feeding, you'll definitely undo all the good work during pg"...WTF...honestly...

Hopefully we're getting to the bottom tof the leak today! Just the wait to see how much carnage needs to be caused to fix it... Confused

ghosteditor · 18/11/2011 09:59

Redhead my guess is that I've put on more than that, though I haven't been weighed in weeks and don't wish to be! My BMI was healthy range to begin with and I'm only 5'3, but before the pregnancy I used to do hard cardio exercise 2-3 times a week at least, and I'm only doing yoga and pilates regularly now. It's a big change for my body (plus I fractured my ankle in March which didn't help).

No one seems worried and I seem to recall I was putting on almost a lb a week at one stage - really it's all bump, boobs and thighs; I'm not noticeably different elsewhere. Due to all the exercise I had quite a lot of muscle before so my body needs fat for breastfeeding.

Also, I wasn't sick once and had awful nausea and heart burn and at first I was eating to fix that! You can have up to 20lbs of fluid, placenta and baby lost at birth too, then there's the extra 4 pints of blood to disappear after the birth (mostly as water by the way!)

Am sure it's better not to gain so much and am Envy at those of you who have less to lose, but I'll get rid of it with bfing (hopefully!) and lots of cardio next year.

So your friend is not alone!

Wormshuffler · 18/11/2011 10:13

Aw thanks girls
Re the weight thing though, I have resolved to go for an hours walk every day now I am off, not so much for losing weight but also I am hoping it will improve my circulation as I'm all pins and needles at the moment. My legs have gone disgustingly fat and it's that horrible lumpy type fat. I wince when DH touches them in bed.
I too am hoping BF will help me shift it, there is enough fat there for all of our babies to feast on!!

greenlady78 · 18/11/2011 10:56

worm I second makes, don't beat yourself up! The most important thing is the love you give the little one!

Re. weight - I've already gained 12 kilos...but because I was always slim it does not show that much...but I know, I feel my poor knees are getting a battering for caring the extra weight. I will talk to MW about it next time. They weighted me on first appointment and never again...not much use, is it?

moobe Thank you! I feel in better spirits, the sun in shining and DH is back tonight...so all in all looking forward to a less stressful day!

oiesha Thank you! I'm seeing the MW on Tuesday so hanging in there instead of calling...I always feel like I am being silly even though I'm worried and they will think I'm a drama queen...

giraffe big hugs your way! [thank you]

fish Oh no! I have to say that for the second day in a row I slept till 8am and coincidentally after I had the hypno birthing CD on, so I am inclined to think they actually work! I would defo recommend you have a go!

Off to have my flu jab....yay! xxx

shonnomanom · 18/11/2011 10:57

I havent been anywhere near a scale since my booking appointment. Im still wearing the same sizes and most of my tops have only changed due to length. Having said that im noticing my chin is getting a neighbour. My biggest concern is the lack of exercise im getting due to the crutches. Doing the nursery run takes about 20odd minutes each way but it shouldnt take 5 mins.

Hope everyone is well x

And you burn 1000 calories an hour during labour - so that's a good head start, too!

GiraffeAHolic · 18/11/2011 12:02

I haven't dared venture near scales since my 16 week appointment Blush I don't think I've put on too much, I'm wearing my usual size still. Ignorance is bliss as they say!

It's a beautiful day here today, I wish id put babies clothes in the machine this morning now instead of Dh's manky work clothes, they could have gone out on the line. Hopefully it'll be a similar day tomorrow, would be nice to get them washed Smile

CheesyMonster is sitting really close to the surface of my tummy today, I can feel an outline Grin can't believe he/she will here so soon (although we are no closer to a mutually acceptable name for either gender!)

Nanny01 · 18/11/2011 12:20

Hi every one, just got my free pampers pack with 10 free nappies and a packet of wipes. Must put them in a bag as even though I'm planning a home birth I still do a bag so I know where everything is. Dh would come back with not much and would say that will do even though it wouldn't

As for telling people they will find out after the baby is born, I have no desire to have well meaning people turn up to console me while in labour. The kids will stay in their own beds if it is night and my parent will be called only when needed. It does remind me of when the mother in law woke every one to tell me that her hubby was dying and then phoned back to say he died 5 mins later. It may sound harsh but dh really didn't want to know and would have been told later the kids got woken up with dh very distressed and couldn't get back to sleep. So we won't be telling any one till baby is out toast and tea made and then if grand parents want to come round it won't be a problem as we will have recovered. I do hate that they take for granted the fact that just because I have had straight forward labours that they assume this one will be ok and that they can come round when ever. Will be making a sign for front door that will say we are in labour please don't disturb we will post the news of the arrival as soon as baby is here. Last time I had the phone going while in labour from my parents. If I were to have csection I would be tempted if this was the first to not tell the date and just phone afterwards. It makes it more of a surprise like a natural labour and takes the pressure of being there if you don't want them to.

fishandlilacs · 18/11/2011 12:39

Morning all,

Had another growth scan today, my boy has jumped up a bit after charting really well last time. He's also turned footling breech-little monkey. Wouldn't it be ironic after all the deliberation and to-ing and froing about my birth choices if he decides to stay that way and it's a c sectin anyway. No way i'm going vbac if he is breech, still plenty of time for him to turn yet.

I'm shattered after being awake so long today, I am skipping work this afternoon because I need nap. Rib pain is awful today. I have got more gaviscon now so hopefully I can get some rest. Crap i know but the course I am learning support for this aft has only got 2 students, the tutor can handle it I only sit there for 2 hours and paint and chat a bit and make the tea.

Ugh-I just found my belly button is still full of KY jelly from the scan. That wasn't a pleasant suprise.

Do i win a prize for the most stupid injury today. At the hospital i stopped by a wide window sill to sort out my stuff, dumped my coat on the window sill, dropped my phone. As I bent down to pick up my phone I leaned on the windowsill for support, but put my hand on my coat, but because it has a slippy silky lining it slipped away under my hand causing me to face plant into the windowsill! i have a bit of bruise on my eye socket now. But I did have to giggle at myself. twat! :)

Bellakins · 18/11/2011 13:03

Hi everyone! I moved house a few weeks ago and so haven't been able to keep up with the threads ... hope everyone is well.

So ... this is possibly the most boring post ever but I'm tearing my hair out! I took a holiday from work today to receive my baby goodies from John Lewis, including my iCandy Peach carrycot and push chair. Has anyone else got this yet? And if so, can they please advise me how to put the damn thing together before I lose my mind. The bit I'm stuck with is the carrycot. The instruction manual tells me to "Position and secure both 'stay bars' into baseboard clips. Replace mattress and apron as necessary". The stay bars I can see can be pulled into an upright position but I can see no way how they can fit into the baseboard clips as the photo suggests. What do I do?! I've googled it and can see no one else with the same problem. So I must be really stupid. I know the sensible thing to do is wait for husband to get home from work but I really wanted to get the pram together today so I could send a pic to my parents as they paid for it.

Thank you in advance for any help...

addictediam · 18/11/2011 13:05

Oh fish Sad but it did make me giggle

Just writing a list for my hospital bag need to start getting organised, 29 weeks tomorrow :)

Dds room is now finished so am sorting out all her stuff putting it back in making it pretty. She slept in there last night and only woke once! :o I'm hoping she starts sleeping through soon. Moving on to bumps room tomorrow quite excited as once this room is finished it really makes bump real!

Nanny01 · 18/11/2011 14:03

can't decide wether to get a tomy sleep curve mattress for the carrycot as we will be using it overnight. www.amazon.co.uk/SleepCurve-28cm-Moses-Basket-Mattress/dp/B0052L13XU/ref=pd_bxgy_kh_img_b

Had one of my friends babys have flattened head so thinking about it as it cost huge amount to get a special helmet to reshape her little girls head.

greenlady78 · 18/11/2011 15:23

Ok, so help me girls!!!! Any of you hear a clicking sound from your belly????? I was sitting in complete silence when a massive clicking sound came from my belly!!!!! It freaked me out!!! I called the MW and she said she never heard of it...that's helpful...and also said if you don't feel well go to the hospital, wow, another groundbreaking suggestion!!!!!

I am seeing someone on Monday but will have the most stressful weekend ever now.....ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, please let me know if any of you ever experienced that!

addictediam · 18/11/2011 15:53

Lol greenlady, yes but I thought my family wrre just plain weird! My mum swore blind she could hear strange clicking sounds when pg with my sisters and me. My sister has also heard them in both pregnancys and I heard clicking sounds when pg with dd, but only once in this pg! The mw thought my mum was losing the plot in her last pg (number 6) I've never mentioned it my sister has and the mw told her it was odd!
My mum thinks its to do with being pg with girls.
Not much help over if its normal or not but I can say older sister, baby sister and I are all normal as are my 2 neices and dd :o

addictediam · 18/11/2011 15:57

My mum never heard the clicking when pg with her 3 boys which is why she thinks its to do with the girls in our family!

Nanny01 · 18/11/2011 17:15

I've heard it a few times recently wondered if it was the baby kicking a bit like when you flick a bottle with water in? by the way mines a boy so don't think it's a girl thing.

greenlady78 · 18/11/2011 17:17

Thanks addicted that made me relax and Smile But... I was told I was having a boy, however I am not sure as I could never spot the well, you know, things boy should have...Grin Maybe my suspicion of baby being a girl was right all along, ha!

But I have booked a private scan for Monday as I got really freaked out...should have read your post first, as you are alright and you clicked in your mum's belly Wink

I had a very stressful week, I am still working and can't wait to finish and just sit on the sofa (and endure rib pain, ha!) and try and relax!

greenlady78 · 18/11/2011 17:19

nanny cross post....oh, so it might be a boy still....(but will continue to buy cream stuff just in case Grin Thanks for sharing, it put my mind even more at ease!

ghosteditor · 18/11/2011 17:55

Funny that I haven't had any clicking from the bump when I'm the clickiest person in the world! I will know what to look out for in that case, thanks ladies!

By the way, thanks so much to whomever pointed out that they are selling Gro-bags at TK Maxx - just went for my first ever trip to TK Maxx and spent some serious £££ on baby things and a few bits and pieces of clothing for me. Including a gro-bag and a beautiful newborn swaddle from the same company Grin.

I've been obsessing contemplating my new maternity leave lifestyle and came to the conclusion that I will need some better shoes for walking around with the pram/sling with, as I have either foolish little ballet pumps or proper tech shoes for hockey/running etc. I found something that should do the job today and won't cripple my poor feet. The shoes are a bit ugly but they should be much better than anything else I have at present! I do seem to have a way of focussing on the non-essential things though...

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 18/11/2011 18:00

Knew I shouldn't have asked to be weighed. Have put on 1 stone 11lbs. Would have sworn up was down it'd be less than that but I'm going to go cry now, because I'm tired and hormonal.

ghosteditor · 18/11/2011 18:11

greenlady yes, I mentioned that I have a cookbook for diabetics (it's called 'cooking for diabetics' by Michelle Berriedale-Johnson.

My fave recipe in the whole book is garlicky lentil soup (DH's favourite soup too) - the recipe I've linked to should say cook for 1.5 hours.

Let me get back to you later because my in laws have just called to ask if they can stay tonight and I need to whizz round and tidy up a bit!!

shonnomanom · 18/11/2011 18:12

Oh I love a good tks maxx bargain!

Clicking from the womb Hmm that must seem a bit strange at first. Babies are marvelous aren't they Smile

Just had a lovely game of tig with baby! :)

Any success with the pram yet bella?

Feeling a sense of readiness iykwim now that the hospital bags are ready. Just need to get the house the right way round now

Hope everyone is well and has a good and productive weekend x

ghosteditor · 18/11/2011 18:12

ooh cakes just wanted to say I can almost certainly guarantee I've put on more than that, if it makes you feel even the tiniest bit better? Brew

FiPeacock · 18/11/2011 18:17

I have the clicking thing! It happens quite a lot. I have no idea what it is, but from Internet searches I gather no-one knows! I get it when the baby moves quickly, it's quite uncomfortable. Don't know what I'm having so can't help with the boy/girl theory I'm afraid! X

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 18/11/2011 18:22

Sorry. Feel better now I've had my dinner and am sitting down. Hubby was a very long baby (24") and weighed 10lb. If I've got one of those inside me then only stone of that weight is me and lots of that will be water and blood. I'm just being a big daft 'aporth.
