monkey not surprised youre peed off! Can you return the bag if youre going to be made to pay the full price? Ridiculous. I think il go have a look for a maternity coat just now and flutter my eyelashes at DP tonight... :)

lily my DD was insistent she was getting a sister before we found out the sex, turns out she was right and its a girl :) but dont think she would of been too happy if it was to be a boy!!

mellie I loooove your cot! The in-laws are supposedly buying ours so ive no idea what we will get (if they even get it...long story!)

I might just fill out my birth 'plan' tonight while its in my head! Pretty sure the midwives didnt look at it with DD but still...

Crazybit · 04/11/2011 16:32

Omg I just Pmsl in the car reading that Bill ! Seriously can't stop giggling.

Were off to Disney on ice in birmingham, dp is driving so I can catch up on Here. Easy to read, bit harder to post. I will do personals when on comp. I've not even thought about a birth plan yet.

I freaked out this morning, was laid on my back and my bump had disappeared! It came back within seconds of me screeching at dp but was scary for them seconds.

CoffeeOne · 04/11/2011 16:45

Bill I'm nicking your birth 'plan' Grin

deardear I also have slightly leaky boobs. This is my first little one and I'm finding it rather freaky :/

I look like a big Fatty McFatto, but I'm loving it :)

littlemonkeybix · 04/11/2011 16:49

babycarmen that looks lovely. Smile and yeah, I will try to get it returned... only bummer is I have de-labelled it! I HAVE all the labels, but they're cut off... I will stamp my feet if they start another issue with me though... BIG TIME! < rings Anne Robinson >

Can I just catch up on a few personals too!!! I've been a bit MEMEME! Sorry!! Blush

Loving the nursery, and the shit, and the viable babies!! I did a guffaw at the shit, I'll be honest Wink

birth plans... I have NO IDEA! I'd like DP to tell me our prize (B/G) and I would like to try to stick to gas and air... and shouting at DP!! I am a totaly nervous wreck when it comes to things like dentists, but HAVe to calm myself.... who knows, maybe I'll be good at calming myself in the delivery room (HA! Who am I trying to kid??!) But we have discussed one part already... DP's mum and dad don't drive, so as we don;t want a competition... my mum and dad will pick his up and they will ALL get to see pip together Grin I was quite proud of myself for that suggestion! Especially as I struggle with my own name/what day it is at the moment!

lilyrose123 · 04/11/2011 17:02

oh the open gropping of stomach has started now people notice you are pregnant.....love it or hate it???? Blush
I dont mind people i know quite well having a little feel/pat when invited, but strangers or people who dont even know my surname with both hands on my stomach.....errmm personal space!!!!
A domestic at work last week came up to me with both hands out stretched and said "ooohhh are you???" and I was very naughty....i said " no i'm not"
Grin never seen someone retract so quickly LOL

as for the flu jab, i'm asthmatic, work in a hospital and pregnant, they are all after me LOL
not enough research done in pregnancy to convince to venture there i'm afraid

monkey thats a great idea when DD was born we invited both sets of parents to come to the same visiting before anyone else came, it was nice that way, then in laws went on holiday for two weeks and asthey came back my parents went away so didnt feel suffocated by visits they all got their own time Smile

baby carmen liking the coat will have to look into buying one i think x

Squiglettsmummy2bx · 04/11/2011 17:26

Very quick coz I am meant to be shaving my legs (so long I swear I could plait them!) but Bill you just made me laugh so hard my kids ran into the bathroom Grin

hermionejgranger · 04/11/2011 19:08

bill laugh snort choke snigger etc :) i read it and thought "hang on - she won't bore us with the details? exactly what manner of detail was she planning on giving us?!?!"

and...breathe.

25 weeks Grin

hermionejgranger · 04/11/2011 19:09

oh yeah and louby (and others discussing it) i saw that thread too...good grief. defensive, much? what a weirdo. and it's not even full moon...

woowa · 04/11/2011 20:15

Can someone please enlighten me on these afterpains? WHat are they? Where? like contractions, or worse? great...

Syntocin injection - I'd have a good chat with at least one midwife about it if you're thinking of not having it, and make sure, if you don't have it, that your MW at birth doesn't go near your cord til the placenta is out. Mine was tugging the cord, something you SHOULD NEVER EVER EVER DO, and I haemorrhaged. I'll never know if they tugging was the cause, but they really aren't suppposed to pull on it without the jab.

Birth plans - my MW asked me while I was on the toilet, totally naked, at start of labour :) I didn't mind at all!! Good advice to have birth partner aware, my DH knew I didn't want any pain relief other than G&A and so when they were offering me pethedine or meptid, and i had gas tube in mouth and couldn't speak for pain, he told them no for me. SOOO glad he did that! Careful though if you want dad to tell you the sex, my lovely DH looked and said "ur, i don't know!". I heard MW whisper what it was to him!!! (girls have quite swollen bits when born!).

Off to watch lots of telly and knit

QueenFee · 04/11/2011 21:27

Afterpains got stronger with me with each one how ever stopped quicker so I think my uterus just shrank back quicker. I only felt them at the start of a feed and they felt like period pains.

For you 1st time mums, something that shocked me 1st time round, the first milk that you produce (colostrum) can be number plate yellow! Oh it looks hilarious in a bottle- custard anyone!?

Kayano · 04/11/2011 21:39

Tried to contact midwife once - had given me wrong number, rang maternity unit at hospital and they told me to ring midwife - gave me same wrong number to which I had to argue the fact that this number was wrong!

Took me 30mins to speak to someone Confused

Was not too impressed

Kayano · 04/11/2011 21:45

Also Grin my mum just felt the baby kick for the first time

My birthplan is very simple - water birth if possible, g&a if not and keep the damn epidural the hell away from me less you want a broken nose Wink

DH is fully aware of this

deardear · 04/11/2011 21:49

oh yes the first time your milk comes in - they dont tell you about THAT at antenatal classes! try walking round a busy town with your arms held out like a muscle bound wrestler so that you dont hurt your boobies. its freaky enough with crowds staring at a new born baby without you swanning about looking like you need to fly. very painful and the only thing that relieved it for me was lying in a hot bath massaging my boobs till the milk had gone a bit. DH was banned from lying within 6 feet of me as well in case he touched them.

Afterpains - you dont tend to get them with baby number 1 but they are like contractions after your second. yet to find out on the 3rd! very much like early labour pains but alot worse than period pains.

I think i will be giving motherf*er a wide birth (sorry about the pun!). Off into birmingham tomorrow with the DD's to look for a dress so will venture into mamas and papas.

off to bed now. not long been back from pony club with DD2. must be mad

phlossie · 04/11/2011 22:01

Or the fact that you milk suddenly 'lets down' for no reason and soaks your clothes? Or can hit your DH in the face from 3ft away while you're feeding (note - always cover over the boob that isn't in your baby's mouth. My DH was woken up by a face full of warm milk on more than one occasion). Or that sometimes babies do projectile poos while you're trying to change their nappies. Or that a really big poo while in a car seat can come out of the neck of their babygrow. Or that baby girls sometimes have a 'mini period' when they're newborn. The main thing for me though was that nobody told me that babies don't just go to sleep when they're tired. That was a shocker!

I sorted through my newborn clothes today - one pile of neutral cream/white/yellow, one of blue and one of pink and a shocking number of items with poo/sick stains on! Yuk.

And my boobs have been leaking colostrum too - well my right one has anyway.

I wish I could knit, woowa. Maybe I should learn. My mum's an excellent knitter, she could show me how.... V funny about your DH not knowing the sex!

melliebobs · 04/11/2011 22:04

Ooo birthplans. I haven't even given mine a second thought but after watching ydays Hollyoaks if my plan can be something along the lines of a baby that i can just scream out in 5 minutes while practically sat on my ass i'd be very happy and almightily impressed. Don't think that's gonna happen though! I'm planning on going to the birthing centre so don't get much of a choice regarding pain relief. Ah well open mind and all that.

Ha ha bill you shit made me giggle

Like the coat monkey. Must refrain from buying a new one, got a outdoorise Tog 24 one not so long ago that has plenty of potential bump room (I hope) think DH would swing for me if I bought another! But after reading that I will now only be buying stuff instore from Mothercare after your debacle. That's hassle I could do without, and knowing my luck something similar would happen to me to! Oh yerr think i saw maternity coats on ASOS too. Never bought off there before until the other week and quite impressed with how quick their delivery and returns are.

Been off work sick again today and was tootling through the lifestyle channels and came across a programme called 'I didn't know I was Pregnant'. I haven't laughed so much in ages. Bloomin American over dramatization reconstructions with actors that look naff all like who they are supposed to be playing nd several babies born in toilets! And some of the women yerr, i guess they could genuinely not know they were pregnant. But one of them put on like 18KG and even felt movement in her tummy that her and her husband referred to as 'the alien!' lol and then after each one the narrator is all 'soooo. How did x/y/z not know they were pregnant? Well they didn't experience any of the typical pregnancy symptoms like nausea or cravings' Cos apparently they are the ONLY 2 symptoms. Well i haven't had cravings so maybe i'm not pregnant either Hmm anyway you get the picture. Was a giggle but 60 mins of my life i'll never get back! lol

babycarmen · 04/11/2011 22:24

Mellie I always watch that programme, its hilarious!! The american birth programmes crack me up. Afterwards theyre like "Yeah i guess i could put x/y/z symptom down to being pregnant..." Um, Duh...

Oh i remember being freaked out by the yellow milk... and passing clots afterwards, anyone else get that? The biggest one i got was like the size of a golf ball 2 days after birth when i was on the toilet, i nearly cried i was so freaked out..nobody told me that could happen!!
Oh and the sore boobs when your milk comes in, i remember sitting it the bath holding the shower head over them and milk just pouring out..they felt like concrete! and nobody ever tells you how sore it is to pee after! Or how scary it is to poo (considering the last time you pushed a baby came out it kinda puts you off..) And that newborn baby poo seems to find its way to the top of babys back..

I cant WAIT for all that stuff again Grin

woowa · 04/11/2011 22:44

Non-first timers, we must be terrifying the newbies!!!

babycarmen, i passed a huge clot in hospital, then a smaller one on about day 3 at home, but still big enough for me to keep in the fridge incase the MW wanted to check it when she visited :) When I called the hospital to see what i should do they said "um, put it in the toilet", as if I was a crazy woman...which ofcourse, I was!

Thanks for the afterpain description. SIgh.

On pooing, post birth, someone on MN recommended dried fruit to loosen the bowels, so I took a massive bag of natural dried apricots (the soft brown ones) to hospital, and continues to munch at home too, and I'm sure that helped. You're right, it is VERY scary pooing!!

KNitting all done for the night. Telly all done too, so all that's left is to get a few hours kip before DD wakes up. Yawn. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

still 27+3, funnily enough :)

Xavielli · 05/11/2011 06:18

Yes, the day 4 milk coming in was the worst part of the whole experience with dc1 I think just because no one warned me and it's a completely alien feeling. Cabbage leaves from the freezer in the bra alternated with hot flannels are a godsend!

After pains have got worse after each one but like QueenFee they stop more quickly. They are more like period pains than contractions. Oh, if you have a back to back labour your back will still be bloody painful after! Mutter

Re pain relief: I go without, not even g&a but I do SHOUT at the peak of each contraction, don't underestimate it as a natural pain reliever haha!

Phlossie - yes to all re: squirty baby pooh! They usually occur in what can only be described as a poonami!

I love all this newborn talk, it sounds scary but when you look back on it it truly is wonderful!

Xavielli · 05/11/2011 06:21

Oh yes, and the post partem pooh! Never as bad as you build it up to be in your head.

phlossie · 05/11/2011 06:46

Um, sometimes it is though. I had awful piles, and pooing was an ordeal for several weeks...

I'm up early. Finding wee hours sleeping a bit tricky, We're possibly going to make a (very cheeky) offer on a house today!

I think the first timers need an idea of the fun they have in store for them! I wish I'd known a bit more. Savoy cabbage leaves in your bra work a treat! Has anyone mention being so sleep deprived you hallucinate? Or answer the door, have a conversation with a very bashful-seeming postie, and then go back into the house to realise that your left boob was hanging out the whole time...

25+6

Sugar80 · 05/11/2011 07:01

La la la I'm not listening to any of youuuuuu.... blissful ignorance is the way forward!!!

louby86 · 05/11/2011 07:07

I'm really scared now Confused . Scared but more prepared Grin

littlemonkeybix · 05/11/2011 08:12

sugar80 I'm with you!! As far as I'm concerned, its bunnies, rainbows, floaty dresses and a 2minute labour in soft focus! places fingers in ears

That is if I'm pregnant at all!! Mellie I had no nausea, and no cravings yet... Must just be trapped wind!!

Is anyone else being met with a barrage of FB disses?? I've not got loads of contacts on there, but recently there's quite a few "I'm not pregnant, or getting married..." posts. One was "I was gonna post my ultrasound scan pic up, but quite frankly how fucking boring" or similar.

They're all boys... But of the 3 over the past week, one was my bro (1st neice/nephew!!!) And one of DPs family!! The DP family one was funny though, cos loads of his mates got on his case, including his GF
