MorningHasBroken · 31/10/2011 11:53

Good luck Green, hope it all goes well tomorrow...

Today's my first day of feeling like I could actually be sick - have felt a gentle nausea for the last few weeks but this is horrendous. Sitting at work where people keep offering me cake (someone's birthday), tea, coffee etc and it's all I can do not to barf. bleurgh.

honeybee23 · 31/10/2011 11:54

@ecstatica Thank you so much!xx It's a miraculous pregnancy given that I was told my best chance to have a baby was IVF especially given my age (I'm 35 with no other children).

MorningHasBroken · 31/10/2011 12:00

Glad you can start to enjoy things now Bumple - once you've got over the scary stuff you realise we're doing the most amazing thing.

Honey congratulations!! x

ffnorm · 31/10/2011 12:08

Green that really sucks!!! Hang in there and hopefully tomorrow will be good new FX

Welcome honeybee what a great story!! Every baby is special but ones like yours are amazing!

Welcome Bumple it's hard when the 2 of you aren't on the same page initially,we're all here to support you.

We really are a chatty group - keep having to catch up pages of thread after being here yesterday!! I am interviewing for a promotion on Wed,it's not a permanent post but Maternity cover (oh the ironyGrin) Think I must be mad as I am feeling so tired and have perpetual low grade nausea (not vomiting but queasy all the time) but on the plus side it will be more money which will boost the Mat leave pay and I was approached to apply which was very flattering!

Rrrrayray · 31/10/2011 12:40

Hi all

The thing I hate about posting on the phone is the fact I can't scroll down & check to whom I'm replying etc.

Greengoose - how frustrating for you. I hope the wait isn't too bad & it's good news tomorrow.

Carty - Disney on ice was good. We had front row seats somehow so the action was brilliantly close, although I totally agree with your experience, the first half is so much more varied, where as the second I found DD's attention wandered a little (she'll be 3 in Jan) still a great show though.

Welcome all newbies. Especially those of you with the wonderful stories. Can't help
But smile.

A Friend of mine has such a miraculous story I have to share. Met in NCT antenatal classes with our first children. Her DS was conceived via IVF, they were told they had no chance of it happening naturally. So when came for second child implanted frozen ones from first cycle. Fell pregnant but miscarried about 5 weeks. A few months later fell pregnant naturally against all odds. Went on to catch swine flu last Christmas. Was in intensive care, 20 weeks gestation, and family were called on several occasions as was slipping away. Consultation, however blunt, told her DH to not mention mummy to DS anymore as in his opinion she wouldn't be coming home. Long story short it the little miracle inside her kept her fighting and both mother & baby are alive and well. She was born on time, naturally with a relativey easy labour and seemingly to date (6 months on) no complications from any of drugs used to save mums life etc. Still get emotional about it now. Dear friend of mine Smile

Nausea hasn't been AS bad this morning, thankfully as DD has swimming. Had visions of puking in the pool. Oh the shame. Ha! Thankfully not & DD is now napping. Bliss.

misslaughalot · 31/10/2011 12:41

Hiya, just taken ages to catch up with this thread, loving hearing everybody's stories. We've decided to wait until after our 12 week scan (December 9th!) to tell people, so I'm going to be venting on here a lot until then I think!

It seems my Friday afternoon nausea might have been a one off. I'm slightly concerned that I don't seem to have any symptoms at all. My boobs are pretty big already, so they don't seem to be sore or hurting (they were itchy last week though). I'm not sick, or nauseous either. I am pretty tired though, and seem to sleep through anything at the moment (although that could just be down to work issues)

Have my booking in next Monday, hopefully the MW will be able to reassure me then? How do people go though 9 months of worrying without coming out a gibbering wreck the other end?!

Good luck for tomorrow greengoose

JjandtheBeanplusPud · 31/10/2011 12:51

I'm having a lot of aches and twinges today, never experienced them with ds or dd, someone reasure me, its not painfull just for the odd discomfort, if I move it stops, I have two scars to the uterus

SarahBumBarer · 31/10/2011 13:46

Hi all - could not get online at the weekend so going to catch up on all your news over lunch. Hope everyone is feeling good.

JJ since your post is last up and I can see it, I feel all sorts of odd "pulls" some really quite sharp and stabbing. I think it is perfectly normal and I believe you can feel them more clearly with second and third children.

TDW I was Aussieng on the Aug 2010 group.

JjandtheBeanplusPud · 31/10/2011 14:06

Thank you for the reply sarah, I've had a wander through the pregnancy section and I'm relieved to see its pretty common, was panicing a lot. Its settled down after I rested a while.

SarahBumBarer · 31/10/2011 14:09

Just cuaght up - commisseration to those of you with sickness/tiredness/teariness etc especially BirdoftheNorth missing your birthday treat Sad

Green that was rubbish on the part of your surgery this morning. Hope all goes well for you tomorrow and that you can feel a bit more positive the rest of today.

Welcome to Zemmzy, Piper, Honey and Bumple and congrats.

I seem to have suddenly hit the exhausted phase - just wondering how soon I can go home without it looking really odd. Mind you with DS at home it will be just as tiring being there!

Afternoon Ladies!

Sorry this is only a quick 2 minute reply so sorry if I have forgotten anything!

Meeting with the midwife was brief, literally met her, got weighed (depressing!) talked about what I can and can't eat, was told to take folic acid, took details of DH and myself, gave me a pack with some notes I have to start filling in and made an appointment for the 14th Nov for my booking in appointment, which will apparently take a good hour or so?

I was a little disapointed that I have to wait for 2 weeks, as that means my scan will be booked later and I was hoping to have had one by the 24th November, (as visiting my aunty who lives away and I want to tell her in person and was hoping to show a scan photo) fingers crossed it could still happen though?!?!

Welcome to all of the new ladies, it's both exciting and nervous these first few weeks aren't they! I had period type pains and cramps for the week after I got a BFP, they were much, much milder than normal (I get horrendous ones, have been hospitalised with suspected kidney problems and it turned out to be period pains Blush!!) but I kept thinking that I was going to come on and never did, apparently it's stretching? Good luck everyone!

Don't know if anyone has been talking names with their DH's? We have and it's been a nightmare, everything he likes I'm not keen on and everything I like he hates! We have already gone through 2 name books passed on from his sister!

Hope everyone has a good day!

Xx

ecstatica · 31/10/2011 19:00

Evening all,
Am I to assume you are all trick or treating :)

Nothing new here, just being less sick than yesterday but more achy (and grumpy might i add).

Millyv - Hope the scan date comes through in time :)

Well, have promised DC a treasure hunt in the dark with their new torches and then stories in the camp (duvet over 4 chairs in dining room)....so best be off for the fun and then lovely bed and telly and icy coke x

growyourown77 · 31/10/2011 19:01

Evening al, welcome newbies and big congrats honeybee, that's amazing!

I'd like to say thanks to you all for being there, sharing your stories and anxieties. I'm going through some major work stress at the mo [hsad] (just what you need on top of the odd and changing symptoms and nausea!) and it's really helped. Thanks

My GP said I'd feel better for talking to someone (other than DH, whose been amazing) so I told my parents today and they were obviously delighted (my mum is baby obsessed), so that really gave me a boost too. It's great to be able to talk to them about being pregnant.

DH and I have had one go at talking names and we established that I like more out here names and he's more trad. But we have a few crossovers, so that's a good start. To be honest, it doesn't feel quite real enough without knowing the sex. Before I got pregnant I swore that I'd go for the surprise option, but now that I am, I really want to know if it's a boy or a girl. Then the names thing will feel more urgent. :)

SeriouslyStrongCheddar · 31/10/2011 19:29

Evening all!

Welcome Honey & Bumple!

green - sorry you didn't get an answer today. Thinking of you for tomorrow.

Well, felt pretty rough all morning due to nausea, but felt better through the afternoon. I've now eaten too much for dinner and feel rough again!

Went to the docs as requested by GP receptionist when I called a couple of weeks ago to arrange booking in appt with midwife. As I suspected would happen, GP asked me why I was there as I could just go straight to the midwife Hmm. I explained I was there on instruction from the receptionist and apologised for wasting her time - she was lovely about it and proceeded to give me an estimated due date (matches the one I'd given myself), told me to take folic acid (which I do) and went through what I can and can't eat (which I know). That was 10 mins well spent. Having said that, I had an asthma check with a nurse beforehand too and my weight wasn't mentioned in either appt - that's got to be a first; two medical appts with no b*llocking about weight, and blood pressure quite reasonable (it usually goes up as soon as I see the surgery!).

Not best impressed at having to leave work early to go see a doc when there was no need, but as I suspected all along it was a pointless appt I can't say I'm surprised. At least doc said she'd chase up the midwife for me - I did miss a call on my mobile on the way home but no message so maybe that was the midwife. Who knows.

Well, early night for me tonght I think - feeling rather worn out after all that!

Hope everyone's having a good evening.

TeaandHobnobs · 31/10/2011 19:32

Evening everyone! I guess those of you with little'uns have a fun-packed exhausting evening ahead!

Went out for a client lunch today to a brilliant pan Asian restaurant and looked on enviously as the others devoured some delicious looking sushi and sashimi Envy Hopefully I was subtle enough about only eating poultry based dishes!

I had a good chat with my team leader today too, where he was outlining his intended team structure for next year. Should open up more opportunities for me, and made me feel much more positive about my role than I have felt in quite a while... Hopefully my absence from next summer won't cause too much of an impact in that respect Confused

Welcome honeybee glad you had a good experience at St Thomas'. That's where I was on Friday too and everyone who saw to me was absolutely lovely and reassuring, which was a great help.

Little question - I've just received my first scan appointment, but I think it has been organised based on my LMP dates, which are two weeks ahead of my 'real' EDD confirmed by the early scan on Friday. It means I would only be 9+6 at a scan where they are intending to do the down's test, which needs to be at least 11+2 according to the leaflet. I should call them and say that, right? As there wouldn't be much point otherwise? I know some people would love to get an extra scan, but I feel bad that there might be someone who needs that slot more than me, IYSWIM?

Sorry, talking too much as usual!!! Blush

thedogwalker · 31/10/2011 19:44

Welcome to all the newbies, my this is a busy thread, we were all busy swi in September Blush.
Well the day I've been dreading has finally arrived Sad, my DH went away today for 6 months. I've cried loads but had to pull myself together for my 14 month DS and that I'm 7+3 pg, don't want too many upset hormones coursing through my body upsetting the baby. Anyway all I can do now is hope the next 6 months flies by, I've got my fingers and toes x that it goes by in a flash.
Hope everyone is having a better halloween than me, take care xx

Kveta · 31/10/2011 19:53

oh thedogwalker :( poor you :( thinking of you. we're here, and hopefully all will be for the next 6 months+ if you ever need a virtual hug (not v. mumsnet, but sod it).

greengoose · 31/10/2011 19:57

nhs food advise I thought some of you might like this link on what the NHS says we can and cant eat.... Its a lot less strict than I remember. Stilton is ok (really, I joke not) and so is some rare meat, and some sushi..... very heartening!!

Carty80 · 31/10/2011 19:58

Green How frustrating for you! I hope tomorrows scan goes your way, fingers crossed for you.

Rrray I felt very guilty as I took DS to Disney last year so told DD that we would see lots of princesses this year (was full of princesses last year) and she just kept asking to see Cinderella, didn't think they would change the format so much! Glad you enjoyed though. What a lovely story about your friend!

dogwalker must be really hard for you to deal with DH going away. Can't imagine what it must feel like but well done on thinking positive and trying to pull yourself together, although I think a few tears especially when dealing with that and being pregnant is definitely allowed!

Jj Hope your feeling better.

Poor DS was very tired after first day back, then went out for 10 mins trick or treating before having a complete meltdown but is now fast asleep. Lucky him, I have to do some work for a few hours before I can collapse so must get off MN and do it! Night all.xxx

greengoose · 31/10/2011 20:01

Sorry Thedogwalker crossposted, I really feel for you, its such a hard time to be on your own..... Is he with you for a good long stretch after that, and when the new baby arrives? It must have been so hard for him to leave you too. Wine & Biscuit (as there is a lack of chocolate symbol)... Do you have family near you?

ellybett · 31/10/2011 20:14

Welcome newbies. Massive congratulations honey.

I'm 6 weeks today, whoop whoop! Did a clear blue digi seeing as I had a spare one and just wanted to check I'd moved on a bit, much to DH's amusement! Haven't booked in anywhere yet as the receptionists at my doctor's were really disparaging when I was pregnant with DD and I tried to book in at 5 weeks. I find it ridiculous that the theory at my doctor's is, don't book in till 8 weeks as the odds of something going wrong are higher in the first few weeks, so effectively don't waste their time! Surely if something, god forbid, did happen, you're better situated if you're booked in with the MW already.

Tea apologies if I've missed understood as I'm having a definitely thick day today but as far as I know, all medical tests are dated according to LMP. So when it says 11+2 in the leaflet it does mean according to LMP rather than conception, so you'd be fine having your scan then.

On a final note, whilst I was a bit concerned about trick or treaters knocking after DD was in bed, as DH is playing football tonight so I'm home alone, not one has knocked at my door! I'm now facing the prospect of eating my way through a giant bowl of sweets, ooh, if I must!

Dalrymps · 31/10/2011 20:21

Sympathies thedogwalker hope the 6 months passes super quick. Remember we're all here to keep you company Smile

Well, I feel the worst I've felt so far todaySad terrible nausea, don't know how I've managed to not be sock. Awful headache which is still hanging on after 2 lots of paracetamol (not at the same time!) and a sleep. I had to see the dr to get a sick note today too and I gelt sooo dreadful whilst I was there that I just burst in to tears when he said I didn't look wellBlush

Sorry for the me me me post..
