Well, whirlwind day for us today.

I woke up at 2am last night with severe cramping, and I mean severe. Not any common or garden cramping. Couldn't sleep, couldn't sit, couldn't walk.. everything left me in agony. Took today off work as was in pretty much constant, searing pain this morning and lay on my bed just feeling horrendous for a few hours. Noticed that the pain was getting much worse as the hours went on and eventually called dh and told him I was ringing NHS direct but I needed him home as I was in agony and reckoned I would be sent to A and E.

Which I was.

Getting dressed was torturous.. I couldn't sit down or move myself in any particular direction, I was doubled over with pain, I literally felt like I was about to break in two and was doing controlled breathing like I was in labour.
Got to A and E and literally couldn't settle I was in so much pain, ended up going on all fours like I was in labour as the only way I could tolerate the pain.
When the staff came out to get me, pretty much straight away, they let me climb onto a trolley, I literally couldn't go on my side or back.

The consultant came to see me straight away and once she'd heard I'd had a scan.before pretty much said that she felt it was very certain I was miscarrying because I looked as though I was in labour and only an ectopic or miscarriage should cause that kind of agony. I was put on IV paracetamol to reduce the pain as I was in quite a lot of it! She talked me through what would happen. Dh was in terrible shock. They let us be, we had a little cry, and then a little chat about how it would go now, that we would take a break etc. He told his boss and our best friends and I waited to be taken up to Gynae for a scan and "next steps".

Went upstairs for scan, had to wait about an hour.. feeling very bleak. When the time came, she began with an abdominal scan and could see a pregnancy sac but nothing else and so we felt that was that.. but she said as it was under 10 weeks she would do a vaginal scan to be sure

AND THERE WAS A 9 WEEK 4 DAY BEAN WITH A HEARTBEAT!!

I burst into tears of course and we were discharged as my pain had subsided with the IV.

I am amazed and grateful but also a little nervous as why was I in so much pain? It really was like labour... I am afraid perhaps it is a sign of bad things t come with my back as the whole thing loosens up.

Exhausted!

callmemamma · 09/11/2011 16:32

Girls thank you for the words of reassurance! It's so good to have you all here.

Mamma so happy for you :)
We're gonna have more scans soon and more good news! How exciting!
I am glad I booked in early this time and the letter from hospital came within 3 days so my scan is on 13th Dec,bang on 12 weeks

btw I think I am gonna have to give hair bobble a go tom for work as I wear uniform and can not wear my own bigger trousers. And I am not requesting a bigger size as 1st It might be a giveaway 2nd I'll have to pay for replacement and they are ridiculously overpriced!

misslaughalot · 09/11/2011 16:37

Hi ladies, i've been lurking here a couple of days but not posting as I wasn't sure what was going on with myself and didn't want to bring sadness to such a happy place.

Anyway this is just to let you know (thanks for wondering where I was ecstatica) what's happened. I contacted my mw as I was experiencing some brown bleeding and she organised an early scan which was this morning, the result of which was 'inconclusive' (basically they didn't find anything so it's not good news). They did a blood test and will check my hormone levels, then I'm going back on Friday morning for another blood test and they'll compare the levels to see what's happening.

They did suggest that it might just be I'm not as far along as I thought, but I'm sure my dates are right, and I know viable pregnancies have been seen earlier than I am now (8 + 1 today). I'm certain it's a failing pregnancy and that's just what I have to find a way of dealing with.

So I shall wish all of you wonderful ladies the best on your fantastic journey, but I won't be going any further with you this time.

Much love xx

10000fireflies · 09/11/2011 17:21

Misslaughalot - so sorry to hear your news. Take care. xx

Working9while5 - wow, what a dramatic day! Congrats on the amazing good news and hope your little bean keeps sticking!

Wish hospital would hurry up and do my booking appt and dating scan. I phoned them last week but they said they are still working their way through appts for those due on 4th June. Desperate for first scan, but just don't have the spare cash for a private one, and don't have the guts to go to EPU with ficticious bleeding. I tried pulling the 'but I'm really old and it's my first and there could be complications' line, but they weren't having and said not to worry, they have plenty more women older than me!!!

Right, off to order some hair bobbles!!

callmemamma · 09/11/2011 17:35

I'm still being sick a few times a day. I was very nearly sick in the shop yesterday when I went to buy some chicken. So I guess that might be off the menu.

But I am sleeping! Everyday night this week DS2 has slept until half 7 and he's usually awake at 5.

Hope everyone is ok morning sickness permitting. Smile

working9while5 · 10/11/2011 08:53

Misslaughalot I am sorry to hear your news.

Thanks everyone. No pain today thank God, who knows what caused it.. I am a tad concerned it could be related to my last birth, and may reoccur.. that would be terrible but I don't even know how I would find that out. It was very much from my hips and into my back and felt like my last labour which was back-to-back, so worried now that as my womb is growing it is retriggering an old injury as obviously I thought it was miscarriage when not. Nurse said this was a possibility.. just hope that it stays away now and things calm down.

Are people having the nuchal fold test? I can't decide. I don't really want more stress in this pregnancy and I don't know if I would "act" upon it, though I can see advantages in knowing what lies ahead (in so far as you can, which is not very far).

Miniangel · 10/11/2011 09:04

Misslaughalot My thoughts and best wishes are with you.

Working How terrible for you to go through the pain and worry. Glad all eneded well and hope the bean stays strong.

Miniangel · 10/11/2011 09:07

Here is a piece of good news. I had my scan yesterday and there was Peanut bang on at 8wks+1 with heart beating and a semblance of a body. We were so thrilled and thanked the consultant who had treated me with clomid. God bless her. Hope Peanut continues to grow.

Warlin · 10/11/2011 09:21

misslaughalot I'm so sorry but it may not be as bad as you think.

working glad your nightmare day turned ok in the end...must have been a scare. I am getting the nuchal test on 14th dec. My dr not keen on it as results are rarely conclusive but doing it anyway. I have Downs in the family so am keen to have it.

Kayzr · 10/11/2011 10:10

Working I won't be having the nuchal test done. I didn't have it with the boys either.

CaptainNemo · 10/11/2011 10:10

misslaughalot I'm so sorry to hear your news. I really feel for you having to wait for a conclusive result, I hope the time passes quickly for you, though I suspect it won't... Be kind to yourself. Hope you're as ok as you can be.

working what a terrible day, not only the physical pain but the mental stress as well. Really hope that's the last pain you get for another 30 or so weeks! I will def have the nuchal done if we make it that far. It tests for so many things and I couldn't face not knowing if I was carrying a baby with a condition incompatible with life. As hard as it would be to find out sooner, an out-of-the-blue 2nd or 3rd trimester loss would be worse for me. Plus am something of a control freak and like to have as much information as possible! Got v good odds of all being fine with DD and found that very reassuring.

Hope everyone else is having a good day and that the sickness starts to ease soon. Kyser am really glad you've been signed off, it definitely sounds like you're too ill to be at work! Hope you feel better soon.

10000fireflies · 10/11/2011 10:26

working - good to hear you are pain free today. Hope it stays that way!

I will be having nuchal test and bloods done, when hospital can deign to make appointment!! Haven't decided on any action plan after that though for the time being.

Have a good, stress and sick-free day everyone!!

thedogwalker · 10/11/2011 11:12

Morning all, Working glad you're feeling better today and all is well. I am going to have the Nuchal test, I know its not conclusive but it can be near as damn it, if you get the right consultant. I had it last time and the blood test, due to my age, I was 37 then, I am 39 now Grin. The consultant afterwards said "I am not allowed to tell you conclusively that your child doesn't have Downs, however, I can say that 99.9 % that your child doesn't have downs". I believed him, did no further tests and I gave birth to a wonderful healthy DS.

Hope everyone is feeling well today, take care xx

Warlin · 10/11/2011 11:25

Hi All (again!)

Just wanted to ask 2 questions of everyone;

  1. Is everyone still doing the dead?? We have a couple of times just but it doesn't feel right. I'm terrified it will make me bleed. Plus I've been so tired that it's been early nights but think DH is getting a bit impatient!
  1. Has everyone had the flu jab? I don't know what to do. Is it better to wait until after 12 weeks? Or risk it? Does anyone know what the affects would be on the baby if I cqught the flu? I've never had it so hard to weigh up risk.

Any advice on either would be great!

Thanks! Hope you are all having as sick free a day as possible.

Dalrymps · 10/11/2011 11:39

Warlin

I have kinda decided not to do the deed until we've had the 12 weeks scan. I know logically its fine really but after the occasional cramping and my tiny spot of blood a few weeks ago I just don't wanna take any risks.

I have booked myself in for the flu jab. I am asthmatic as well as pg so double high risk. It apparently is no risk to baby and helps protect baby from flu after baby is born. All I know is that if I became ill with flu I could potentially become very ill and worst case scenario would be miscarriage or death for me Shock I personally don't want to risk or but understand everyone feels different about it. It feels an easier decision for me this time as I had the swine flu one when pg with ds2 and he's fine. I'll be about 11 weeks when I have it but only cause that was the next app I could make.

Dalrymps · 10/11/2011 11:40

Risk it
