right, i did a pan of potato and sweet potato, seeing i cooked our tea at the same time, it wasnt hard, and just put it into the ice cube trays, but seeing the abve post, i have realsied i have mashed it, rather than pureeing it!!

doh, i told you i was no good at this cooking lark!!

i wonder if she will eat it.

klou how long do you leave it in the ice cube trays before you transfer it to abox? stupid silly question, but i just found 3 cubes of carrot i did at christmas, still in the tray and didnt look all that good!Grin

KLou111 · 24/01/2012 19:49

I leave it to freeze for about 5 hours, then it's solid.
If its too thick for her, mix a bit of her milk into it once defrosted to thin it out, but she may like it thicker :)
You've got to use it within 6 weeks of making it.

Re the yoghurt, the hv said to give it him I forgot to say, she said at his 16 week appt. It came in handy when he wouldn't have his milk!

At 6 months you don't have to blend or mash anything because they have developed both the grabbing things and putting in mouth and the chewing reflex by that age. The only smooth stuff poppy has are the heinz or C&G fruit pots and yoghurts! Everything else is just plonked straight onto the highchair tray for her to dig into, or messy things are given carefully via spoon. I say carefully as she likes to 'help' with the spoon Hmm

liz that is shit of your FIL. I asked my sister, and yes her 2 have had xmas presents :(

KLou111 · 24/01/2012 20:00

It depends what they're eating melly cos obviously you don't mash sandwiches Wink

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 24/01/2012 20:14

Another boy then eh iwish? I'll have to laugh when it's a girl :o I don't want any more, really cba to move house, as we only have 2 bedrooms and poppys room is barely big enough for one! And the thought of poppy as a toddler and a baby at the same time fills me with horror. I have a feeling I already said this on here Hmm :o

Iwish · 24/01/2012 20:26

Lol melly you may have said it before to klou because she is as mental as me and wants another Grin. Tbh we would love a girl but given the track record on nicks dads side we've not no chance. His dad has 6 kids, only one is a girl. Between all the grand children there are 12 boys and 2 girls lol.

Haha klou at mashing sandwiches!! Do you cook every fruit? Like grapes? (sorry if it's a stupid question)
So you put them once ice cube trays until frozen then pop them all out and put in 1 big box?

liz maybe she will like it a bit less puréed now. No harm in trying I suppose :)

Put Joshua to bed at 7:30 and he talked to himself and did a few crys until 8:10!

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 24/01/2012 20:50

Not really klou because they can chew, so they don't need anything mashing. Just break things up for them, like pieces of meat, cauliflower etc cut them up into handsize pieces.

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 24/01/2012 20:52

That is a lot of boys iwish, I was convinced poppy was a boy, because everyone in both mine and simons families have had boys first! And I just felt like she was boy, I had that feeling. Just shows, a mothers instinct can be wrong :o

KLou111 · 24/01/2012 21:01

You cook fruit til 6 months, puree, then after that they can be pureed, grated or mashed without cooking. soft fruit (banana, avocado) can just be mashed. Grapes, like cherries can be given earlier than 9 months if pureed, then you can give them finger feeding ie in halves. (From my book). If you do give grapes, you puree then sieve to get the skin out.

Says once baby is used to puree, then mashed, can introduce finger foods ie cooked veg (around 7 months).

Everyone does things differently though so its up to you really, but my book has worked wonders with Euan, he will eat anything, even green bean now :) so I will stick to it as don't want him to be a fussy eater in the future, or have a sweet tooth like me!
Yeah I put in ice cubes then in boxes and write what's in it with a use by date :) I'm too organised when it comes to Euans food lol!!

I cant wait for another, I'd start now if Rob was in agreement lol, but I really do want to enjoy Euan.

Fingers crossed for a good night tonight iwish :)

KLou111 · 25/01/2012 10:15

Just been reading on the MN Facebook, they were asking what have you bought and never used for baby. Bath and top n tail very popular, I couldn't be without mine!! Euans getting a bit big for his bath but he loves it, and its got a support in it so he can just lie on his own. It's had more use than anything lol!!
And i top n tail every morning so that's used a lot.
What is yours?? I think Moses basket cos he was in his room at 3 weeks!

OP posts:
KLou111 · 25/01/2012 10:16

Sorry, wasn't what you'd never used, it was what was the one thing that you think was a waste of money.

OP posts:
lizandlulu · 25/01/2012 17:41

i used my bath and top and tail bowl alot too when vilet was smaller, not now, but had my moneys worth out of them. i dont kn ow, if you dont go mad then most things get used, but when i went ti kiddicare the other week i said to chris how much crap you could actually buy and never use.

in one catalogue i have, think its jojo maman bebe they actually have a clip, to clip to the pushchair to hold a scooter for the older child! i mean, who ever tohught that up, just hang it from the side!

KLou111 · 25/01/2012 17:55

Been reading about the food today cos of what melly was saying about the non mashed stuff. I assume you are doing BLW? You're right in what you're saying, if you start with BLW at 6 months, then bubs will take a bit at a time in chunks rather than having to puree. (I remember gruff/womb saying about it as she didn't want to bother with the pureeing) If you start before 6 months with puree however, and started weaning early, you have to get them used to puree, then mash, then introduce meals with lumps ie half spoon food, half finger food. Meat still has to be pureed or pulsed apparently til 9 months due to digesting it :)
Obviously I started weaning before 6 months, at 4, therefore Euan will be slowly getting used to thicker textures (and I want most if it in his mouth and not the floor lol!!) So obviously it just depends on if you're doing BLW, which I'm not. Going to start him on protein 1st Feb so hopefully within 3 weeks, he will be on chunkier stuff, and start to finger feed by the end of the month.
It just depends on how you decide to wean :)

yes agreed klou i cant wait till violet can be given finger food, i think she will enjoy it, but i just dont think shes ready for it yet. also, i am on a strict time limit in the mornings, i am worried about her eating her breakfast 9ie. toast) in time, so might stick to porriggy things for brekkie unless its a weekend!

KLou111 · 26/01/2012 16:50

Yeah, it is meant to take a while lol, think you are wise to stick to porridge then you know she eaten! :)

Been swimming today. We were taken into the big pool today cos the baby pool was so bloody cold!!! Was great though, Euans getting a lot more confident in the water.
Bought him another sippy cup today, the first tommee tippee one to try and get him used to a cup at lunch. Was only £
1.50 in Wilko, got him the 6 month explora one too as was £3! I've got an oxo tot one, but will need a few anyway.
Got chicken and lentils to cook for next week too, I hope he doesn't have too much of a reaction to protein ie constipation etc.

Baby bath, used it twice, we decided it was too awkward so just chucked her in the big bath with simon, top and tail bowl has never been used, and the bath support has only been used twice too. Also have a tonne of blankets that haven't been used either. I was told to get plenty so there'll always be a spare from all the litres of puke/poo/wee that will always be projectile firing everywhere, and not needed even half of them!

lizandlulu · 26/01/2012 20:45

i bought 2 mamas and papas blankets cause htye were so nice, but dont go with my pushchairs so have just sold them on ebay, one for £29.99 and one for £32!!! so glad i got my money back!

i bought a cup for violet from kiddicare, i cant remember the name of it, cant be arsed to get off the sofa and lookGrin it begings with a b, and it does have a teat and a spout for when shes older. shes been having it for a few days and i thougth it was spill proof, well it is till you chuck it on the floor and the whole lid comes off! bad design

WombOnTheBroom · 26/01/2012 23:21

Hiya all! Yeah - we've been doing the BLW thing (with occasional spoons for yoghurt etc though tbh she uses the spoon more than me). It's way easier than the puree thing, which I did do for DS. She was 26 weeks when we started and she's taken to it really easily. Yesterday DD had toast for breakfast, hummus and cucumber for lunch and home-made fish and chips for tea. She doesn't eat loads, but she's only been doing it for 10 days. And there is evidence in her nappy that she's eating something (carrot tonight - is that TMI?) Grin In 10 days she's had pitta, home-made bread, mash, pasta puttanesca, jacket spud, egg mayo baguette, banana, fromage frais, stewed apple, home-made fishcakes, little organix rusks, broccoli, cauliflower, carrot. Basically she just gets what we're having but in lumps she can grab.

Waste of money - buggy board. Bloody impossible to push the pram with it attached and DS hated it. Bought a double buggy instead.

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 27/01/2012 01:54

Oooh gruff my sister wore out her buggy board she used it that much! So Flo is just over 6 months now? Blimey doesn't time fly!

Liz 32 quid for one blanket?? Shock how much did you buy them for???

lizandlulu · 27/01/2012 09:17

melly i paid about £34 for one and about £32 for the other. however, the same woman had bougth both mine and shes still not paid. i do hope shes not a messer

womb that sounds a lovely array of foods. can she chew bread ok? my mum was mad at me when i gave violet a CRUMB of her cake, literally, half the size of my little finger nail. she said i shouldnt be getting her used to snaking! on a crumb!!

KLou111 · 27/01/2012 11:07

Hiya womb sounds like little flo is loving her food :) time has gone so quick!!
Blummin eck Liz they are expensive blankets!!!!

OP posts:
WombOnTheBroom · 27/01/2012 11:29

Hi Melly - I think it was a mixture of my wrists (rubbish), the pram, which is a bit knackered because I wore it out with DS so it's hard to push anyway, and DS, who would get so tired he couldn't/wouldn't stand on the board after a point. Yeah, Flo is 6 months - scary. Gotta go back to work at the beginning of April and I'm already having pangs about it.

Liz - she licks/gums/bites it and gets little bits off. I normally give her something a bit 'hard' like a crust or pitta bread or toast as she finds it easier than soft bread. I think it's easier to grab and chew on. Hmm - I don't reckon snacking is a problem at 6 months!

lizandlulu · 27/01/2012 16:46

yes i imagine if the bread is really soft, it migth get stuck to the roof of her mouth.

work finished for another week, as much as i love my job, i love not setting the alarm on weekends!
